>Starts the adventure at nearly level cap
>Railroads players so that they don't deviate from the path set by the DM.
>Only succeeds due to the OP powers and gear the DM gives him whenever the party is in trouble
>Any failures are punished by a slap on the wrist and bailed out while other players are under a zero tolerance policy and smiten or contract leprosy if they disobey the DM
>Also has some really long and convoluted backstory that the table has to KNOW BECAUSE IT'S REALLY IMPORTANT.
>Due to some fucking reason the campaign takes 40 years to finish

>campaign starts with some cult stuff
>some supernatural stuff happens but it's mostly human opponents
>then the party spends 40 years wandering around some uninhabited area looking for something
>they finally find it
>PC instantly dies
>things seem to be good but actually everyone involved is fucked forever and so are their descendants
Just another Call of Chthulu module

I've never seen this picture of Obi Wan before, what art book is this from?

Perhaps the story got embellished in retelling?

Maybe the players wouldn't need a DMPC if they didn't decide to just dick around with a golden calf when left to their own devices.
>>
>>98164221
Dicking around with the golden calf is the equivalent of "Yeah, fuck the lich, we're gonna go and be pirates!"
>>
>>98164268
I don't care the world got destroyed by the undead apocalypse, the pirate arc was the best part of the campaign.
>>
>>98164221
Maybe the party wouldn't dick around with the golden calf, if something more exciting had happened than wandering in the desert for years (with even more pointless wandering after the golden calf incident).

Traditional games?
>>
I am guilty of using DMPCs in my campaigns but I never had them be the driving force. I usually used them as comedy characters just so I could use them for jokes and had them "stay outside the guard the horses" when the party went into the dungeon.

I think he's just a solo player character surrounded by NPCs
>>
>>98167370
I think that's just an NPC. Isn't the defining feature of a DMPC that it hogs spotlight from the players?
>>
>>98167370
As >>98171268 said, that is ab npc. There is no such thing as a "good" gmpc.
