>GW releases a fun side game involving aircraft dogfights in Warhammer 40k>for once it's a specialist game that actually takes place IN 40k with proper support for different factions like orks and eldar and tau, and not the retarded Horus Heresy that was only ever meant to be background story for one faction and ignores over half of all 40k players>cancels the game>makes Legions Imperialis using the Imperium planes but Horus Heresy only (dies immediately)>months and months go by>release a trailer for Aeronautica Imperialis>"oh sweet they're bringing it back!">no, it's just a Warhammer+ cinematic animation>for a game that they cancelled and which you cannot buy>release the animation and push it constantly with multiple articles like "did you guys check out that awesome animation???">announce a trailer for the sequel (announcement of an announcement)Holy shitWhy are you pushing this shit so hard when you CANCELLED THE FUCKING GAME IT IS BASED ONI don't care about watching your fucking trailers for a game you won't even sell meYour company produces GAMES, you are called GAMES fucking WORKSHOPSELL THE ALIEN SPACE PLANE MODELS AND MAKE MORE OF THEM, OR KILL YOURSELVES
>>98166698Well, maybe if people actually bought the game, it would still be around?
>>98166698You can still play the game with your models, and/or print more models for the game. But i bet you did only learn about it due to the animation.
>>98166735The funny thing is they they originally released the game under Forge World, let it die, remade it as a specialist game, then let it die again.I don't think they'll try a third time.
>muh Horus Heresy le bad>seething xenofagevery time, lolAeronautica Imperialis was okay but ultimately it was released too late. The X-Wing boom was over, and nobody played the game.Btw, it got a HH supplement, but the Legiones imperialis made it redundant. LI is not a very good game, but the models are great (aside from astartes infantry), and it seems have good sales. The section in my LGS is always stoked with different boxes, so somebody is buying those.
>>98166939>but the models are greatThe models DO look great, but most people don't want to play in the HH setting, they want to fight their Imperium dudes against orks and nids.
>>98166735The people who bought the game won't be missed, remember?
>>98166698Still playing LI and enjoying, but yep, the game need a new rulebook.
>>98166735Maybe if they didn't drag their feet releasing content for it and had actually put out a handful of units for every 40k faction from the get-go so you could convince your whole friend group to buy in together.Instead we had the Necron guy waiting until the game was already basically dead before he got anything, the Tyranid guy never got his tiny flying monsters, the Sisters of Battle guy never got anything, so it didn't get enough interest to sustain momentum.Starting a game system is like lighting a fire, you need enough kindling to get it going at the start before you can feed little bits into it over time to keep it going.
>>98166880>let it dieIts not like they can force people to play it. It sold like shit.
>>98167713I think they're in a catch-22 with side games now. Everyone assumes they're not getting backed and the rules will ne low effort in any case, so unless they really like the models, they don't buy in. No buy in means no incentive to support. Rinse and repeat.
>>98167713The game never got any Chaos models and Marines dropped at the very end in what was clearly a segue to LI(only further release was an all resin Necron one), so they weren't exactly setting it up for success.
>>98166939The only reason the Horus Heresy ever existed was because when Adeptus Titanicus and its follow up, Space Marine, came out GW didn't have the budget to release two different armies, so they made the single Titan/Marine faction fight each other in a mirror match and came up with a lame excuse for why it's a civil war. As soon as the game started doing well they turned it into Epic 40k and released Eldar and Orks and it took off from there. The Heresy as a game system was supposed to be left in the dust forever at that point.
>GW was open about how the long terms plans for Adeptus Titanicas was to slowly add unit systems under the system until its Epic 2.0 >Abandon that idea and make a completely different game for air units>Abandon both systems for a shitty version of EpicGW is insulated by shitty decisions by whales who just buy everything and deal with blunders like this. It doesn't help that their competitors are somehow even more retarded.
animation department has to justify their budget
>>98166939Epic Armageddon is better
>>98166781>But i bet you did only learn about it due to the animation.Isn't that OP's point? Youtube tourists see a cool animation of elf eurofighers mogging spacebricks get interested enough to look up the models, only to see them OOP and being sold by 3rd party at collector's markup.
>>98167996Make another video olden demon
This thread has the most valuable of lessons: Warhammer players are fucking hogs that only want to consume the shittiest slop possible. That's it.You give them a good ruleset like Aeronautica, Epic, or Warmaster and they recoil in horror and the game will flop. Their little piggie minds hate not putting el grande fuck you character and rolling lots of dice with absolutely worthless special rules that add nothing.
why do they release all these random specialist games and then just stop supportthey have all these not-epic games, why not just make epic which unifies them all
>>98167700>Why didn't they just release a new miniatures wargame and make it popular and everlasting? It's such an easy thing to do. People do it all the time! Also, this whole thread is hilarious. If every animation they made was always linked to a miniature currently on sale then you guys would bitch and seethe about that. You would say that "GW hates the lore" and only care about selling stuff and yada yada yada. Now they have shown (again) that they are perfectly willing to make animations that explore the lore beyond what is currently on shelves and of course you then whine about the things in the animation not being on shelves.
>>98166979No one bought it.Here is what happened. It is the same thing that has happenend constantly for the last 40 years and will continue to happen forever:1. GW releases a new game, it's based on one of their popular settings but shows it from a new perspective with interesting new models and rules.2. No one buys it.3. Two years later GW says "well, at least we tried". The game is removed from the production line.4. One year later, people start talking about how amazing the game was and how stupid GW was to stop making it. No one actually played it.
>>98168832It's pure karma though as GW's specialist games where just an excuse to pump and dump around Christmas and Summer holidays. They got away with that shitty strategy for maybe a decade but people got wiser, word spread to the newcomers and now everyone is already burned or aware.
>>98166698I always thought gw kept that game on life support so it would take up shelf space at game stores so that other games not by gw wouldn’t have room to be displayed.>>98167996I think gw shoved epic into the Horus heresy setting to kill any chances of it out performing mainline 40k.I can’t prove it though.
>>98168832>1. GW releases a new game, it's based on one of their popular settings but shows it from a new perspective with interesting new models and rules.>2. No one buys it.Because of >>98167700They don't actually put any effort into these releases, they lazily half-ass the fuck out of them, and then shrug their shoulders and go "no one bought! guess they didn't want it!" while we were still waiting for them to actually release products for all of the factions we play.
>>98166735Maybe if the game didn't suck ass it would still be around
>>98168736Because they know a significant proportion of the playerbase do not want to play big 40k at the scale it's grown to and would stop buying if there was a smaller scale alternative.
>>98168764I actually bought into AI to a degree, not because I thought it was really going anywhere (and to be fair the rules left me ... whelmed. Ok for a quick zap but not quite satisfying enough for anything more) but because I've always been a sucker for tiny planes. I really started out in all this with Airfix kits, in a way. And they are (were) nice models, fun to put together and paint up. Just a shame the idea is now locked away.
>>98168406And what is the issue here? The setting always has been bigger than the miniatures available.
>>98168832If nobody bought it, how does OP know it's fun?
>>98169102Nah, otherwise Warhammer wouldn't exist.
>>98169993Rulebooks are available digitally, but i can assure you, OP did not bother to read them or playtest this game with proxies.
>>98169080>"I was going to start buying that product, I swear! Everyone I know would have started to buy it! If only GW wasn't so stupid!!1"Yeah, people say this all the time as well. It's just pure BS.The people at GW know a lot fucking more about the market than you do.
>>98166698Don't you have some mini's to buy, 40kid?
>>9817040940king*
>>98170268>The people at GW know a lot fucking more about the market than you do.LMAO, ah yes, the business execs at GW, the people who famously have taken a setting that prints pure gold and still somehow almost driven the company into bankruptcy on multiple occasions, saved only by the momentum first established by the original creatives who long ago left the company. The geniuses who killed off Warhammer Fantasy right before Total War Warhammer came out and would have injected life back into it, and replaced it with the complete flop that was Age of Sigmar which had to be rescued by a complete 180 in design philosophy with the General's Handbook. Those absolute masters of the market.
>>98168832>No one bought it.why did my local GW store sell out of all their stock save 2 dakka jets boxes, a barracuda box, and a Squig Bomba box?I got the First set , 2x Dakka Jets, a marauder, and both kinds of eldar...couldn't grab Wrath of Angels cause THAT sold out first day.
>>98166698>make thing with limited run, sell all of it, stop because it was a small project and team gets moved to other small projects>release again later to make more money on limited runShit's not complicated anon. Specialist games were never made to be mainline products. Its like board games instead of whatever /v/fag content churn mentality you have going on. >>98167996Post your 6mm army anon.
>>98171314and you could not buy it elsewhere for the duration of some years?
>>98170948>"everything GW does is shit but because Rogue Trader 1987 was so EXTREMELY GOOD AND WELL DESIGNED people just keep buying their product forty years later despite there being no quality at all!"lolayylmao
>>98171733>but because Rogue Trader 1987 was so EXTREMELY GOOD AND WELL DESIGNEDThe game system, no. The setting it created, yes, 100%, and it was still being expanded upon by the same writers that worked on Rogue Trader up through 3rd edition. That foundation, and the amazing art of people like John Blanche (Rest In Peace, king) is what kept 40k going even as the grubby business suit faggots drove the company into the ground and nearly killed GW multiple times.
Post some alt rules you can play with your models. I'm interested in plane games.
>>98172533Missile Threat, Airwar C21 (Both modern/historical and might need some brew/close enoughing), Voidfighters, could get spicy and try to proxy/homebrew for X-Wing? Voidfighters is likely the most promising due to being most focused on making your own ships/factions, but I only have the physical book and can't provide a pdf for you :(
>>98172579Thanks anon. No worries, I am a pro sailor. I got some planes on the way and it would be nice to play some rulesets designed purely for that.I'm surprised Crimson Skies anon isn't here yet.
>>98172579>but I only have the physical book>Voidfighters How is it rules wise? 2d or 3d? How granular like Silent Death or Centurion compared to Wings of Glory?
>>98166939>obvious seething guardfag>seething xenofagRent free
>>98166939>The X-Wing boom was overWhat happened there, anyway? It feels like the game just vanished overnight.
>>98177267In short, corporate bullshit.Asmodee took the game from FFG and gave it to AMG who clearly didn't care for or wanted to work on it.AMG then purposefully made the rules shittier so that people abandon it and let it die.
