For those who are planning on not going old one, and having a finite life, Geb's carapace extends that life. For those who are planning on going old one, Geb's carapace lets you retain more of your original personality. Unity, heart, and darkness are the only three aspects that make an ultima resistant to radical personality changes when falling. So unity is a win no matter what you choose to do.
