What have you been working on/playing lately? Post your cubes. Post anything where you curate the play experience, not corporate.

I thought about it, but when you’re looking at cubes, 99% of them are just super high power level. Why would I want to play that? I could just play Standard or something. I don’t want to play a cube that’s at the same power level as constructed. It doesn’t make any sense. The whole point of Limited is that you have a lower power level.
>>
>>98170431
One of the selling points of cube is that there isn’t any draft chaff. That every card is somewhat useful. But not everything has to be vintage levels of op. I have a copy of the pauper cube and is great. Most cards are commons so it’s on you and your skill to pick the right pieces for the deck since there it doesn’t have rare bombs that win you the game on their own neither it has unplayable thrash. Cost me about 150€ to setup (and if you proxy it it would be even cheaper).
>>
>>98170431
designing low-mid powered cubes is the most fun part of making a cube imo. That and making a set cube where you expand the weaker archetypes to try to fix them.
>>
i've been working on my cube all day. a low powered cube where the colours are distinguished from each other and you can't just play one card and win unless it's the late game

okay thats nice but there are thousands of cubes available. why should i choose that one? what makes it special

Running a cube for 18ish years has really helped me notice and really feel the poeer creep of mtg. My orignal goal, like many other was highest power level possible whilst working towards biases in archtypes I and my group enjoy.
I think the ideal Power balance was around 2017. Now days its fucking fucking ridiculous. To many cards win all on their own. Power maxing cubes its a terrible idea in the current state of the game.

A friend and I have been working on a peasent cube and it's been amazing. It genuinely feels like playing a 2010ish era cube. So much interaction, long games, high synergy. Its beautiful.

Also fuck all UB. Keep the fuck out of my game
>>
>>98170431
That's the beauty of a cube. There's infinite possibilities. Also, a power maxxed cube is nothing like standard. Cmon nigga.
>>
>>98176385
why don't you peruse the list i gave you and see ;)
>>
>>98173551
Anon, you get that Red is the only real deck here...right?

idk there's a lot of baneslayer angels and black lifelinkers in here and other decks need to cannibalize red's burn for point removal
>>
>>98176673
I did, for like 12 seconds, nothing interested me, then I checked out description, there was nothing relevant there and at that point why should I expend any more effort on it? ur answer only solidifies my opinion

Power balance is whatever you decide power balance is, that's the entire idea. You have the ability to not include busted cards (there always are some busted cards), that's the entire point of curating your own play experience.

I banned any kind of tutoring, tokens, shuffling, almost all ramp for my cube for kids.
>>
>>98177238
ok, i'll sell you on it a little. if when you think red you think weenies and burn, green you think ramp and fatties, white you think sweepers and angels, blue you think countermagic and card draw and black you think midranmge creatures and removal, then this is the cube for you! if you don't, then it's not.
>>
>>98177007
Those cards cost way to much to have any impact before red will inevitably overwhelm the other decks. You have zero 1,2 or 3 drops in white bro. Red literally gets 3 time walks. You're just dead by then.
>>
>>98177283
Buddy, you really need to sort out your mana curves for all the colours. You need plays of every point of the curve except for maybe t1 if you're control.

You can still be lower power and have good mana efficiency.

>>98177282
Of course, and i do so. But im an old fag and cube used to be the best of the best the history of MTG. But power creep is so absurd a 360 powered cube feels like a 2020-26 cube rather than a whole of MTGs history cube.
Obviously you can tweak things, but the spirit of the format at it's core has changed significantly
>>
>>98177299
so play two colours, play green for ramp, black for early game creatures or red for removal. don't draft monowhite.
>You have zero 1,2 or 3 drops in white bro. Red literally gets 3 time walks.
how many 1 drops does u/w control normally play? again, there is going to be nowhere near as much burn or premium one drops that a typical standard monored deck might get in these decks
>>98177320
>Buddy, you really need to sort out your mana curves for all the colours. You need plays of every point of the curve except for maybe t1 if you're control.
that is LITERALLY the point of this cube. you go into another colour for different parts of the curve. also lmao at you thinking that monored and uw control should have the same mana curves
>>
>>98177320
idk for me cube has always been "here's bunch of cards I selected, we can play a fun, self-contained game with them"
>>
>>98177406
Of course and that's definitely where it shifted during the 2010s and thats for the better in general.

(Im still gunna seethe at Modern Horizons tho)

>drafts one red aggro deck when someone else is drafting red and ends up with no burn
yeah my plan is for there to be 2.5 people at the table who want to draft some kind of red deck
>>
alright i cut 5 of the direct damage burn spells for 5 rr 2 drops, this should lower the chance of getting one guy with monored and 8 lightning bolts and possibly also kill rg and rb which were holding on by a thread anyway

Any house rules you guys have for any of your cubes? I've got a low powered one where I'm considering adding the Landscape cycle and making a house rule that they can fetch any of the dual lands in the cube as well. Normal fetch lands would be way too good, but this seems like a nice compromise.
>>
>>98177849
*any dual lands of the colors listed on the card
>>
>>98177849
why not just add more duals, unless you want to enable 5 colour abominations or ridiculous splashes
>>
>>98177874
yeah that's why, and allow for decks to be more consistent. The cube's archetypes are carefully constructed, but it'd be fun to see what these allow people to make and see if I want to keep those additions in or pull back and just add more duals instead as you suggested.

white is too strong in my other cube
>>
>>98177849
House rules can be messy. You can add multiple prismatic vista and similar type lands to make splashes more viable whilst still enabling landfall, shuffle and gy synergies that they usually come with.
>>
>>98178190
that's probably the better route honestly. I was wanting to keep it singleton, but having multiple Terramorphic Expanses is cleaner than Landscapes with house rules. I could even just get 5-10 copies with all different arts so it at least feels unique.
>>
>>98178265
I believe the function reprints are Terramorphic Expanse, Evolving Wilds, Escape Tunnel and Vibrant Cityscape.

Fabled passage too, but that is a bit stronger.

Tell me why it sucks. Tell me which cards should be added.
>>
>>98174082
Amen. Get those terrible cards outta here.
