Ok, got some playtesting in finally. I'm pretty happy with this list. Lots of objective and mission action squads, a tarpit squad to clog up the middle contested objective, and then a few shooty units to make a bubble. Very much an objective orientated list but I like that. I really like splitting squads and then parking half to farm faith points, it feels very efficient. And the bread and butter of the list is to remove cover with the immolators, increase armor pen with the castigators, then do the heavy lifting with the paragons last to use the combined special rules, this kind of synergy list is really what I go for in games. I'm not really a death ball player, or a giant centerpiece player. I'm actually pretty 50/50 split on Bringers of Flame vs Champions of Faith. This list has stuff that typically goes for both of those at pretty even split so it's hard to decide. But I think I'm leaning towards Champions since the three units it buffs happens to be three of the important units in this list.https://www.newrecruit.eu/app/list/boEJ7>favorite named characterI like Sister Verity, the protagonist of Faith&Fire. I think they did a good job of portraying someone who is not that bad of a person but is stuck in 40k so they have to deal with it. Similar reason lots of people like Ciaphus Cain, who is another old favorite.
Stupid question, but... I forgot to buy inks for shadings. Can I try using my fountain pen's ink bottles as a shitty substitute?
>>98180440Fuck no. They'll be super duper saturated, wont flow like a wash, abd a pain to work with. You would need to buy matte medium to make them workable. Also you'd need to thin them like 1 part ink, 5 parts medium.

>TQErebus, I like that he's just comically evil
>>98180706It's actually very good, it just completely removes the macro element which some people don't have a preference for. DoW II was kind of ahead of its time. It came out a time when the RTS genre was big enough that success was determined by being as close to starcraft as possible (like dawn of war 1). If DoW III was in the vein of DoW II it would have been far more successful. Unfortunately, the idea of removing base building was not seen as innovative to focus on the actual crunch of RTS combat. It was instead seen as lazy and shallow, and people didn't really give it a chance.t. played in competitive 3s, was a tourneyfag for it etc
>>98180701This
>>98180706Fuck off, campaign is fantastic, and just because multiplayer removed most of the base building like in 1 doesn't mean it's not a good rts
>>98180716>Unfortunately, the idea of removing base building was not seen as innovative to focus on the actual crunch of RTS combatIt was never going to be seen as especially innovative in that respect, releasing 9 years after Shogun: Total War, even if it did actually do interesting things micro-wise.
>>98180707> I can see why people dont like the idea of loyalist traitor geneseed chaptersI like that, it's just the BR being TS doesn't make them more interesting.>>98180706>>98180716DoW2 campaigns are greatbasic MP gameplay I prefer DoW1DoW3 is a mess
>>98180716>It's actually very good,It's diet Company of Heroes
>>98180727>releasing 9 years after Shogun: Total WarIf you compare DoW II to Shogun... I genuinelly doubt you even play video games, but thats more /v/ talk than here. Shogun didn't remove base building, its an entirely different way of handling it. that was done tons of times in the 90s. In fact, the total war style RTS was far more common until sid myers, warcraft: orcs and goblins and command and conquer all come out in the mid 90s as the new hotness.
>>98180716I enjoy both 1 and 2 for different reasons, they're so different its kinda hard to compare them and say one is particularly better than the other. I enjoyed the fallback mechanic and its crazy to me that no squad based rts has bothered to use it. Heroes were fun and gave you some fun build variety, the side bar army abilities were also cool. Weakest aspect I think was probably the game modes, ping ponging around the map playing whack a mole with requisition points because you couldnt fortify them felt a bit unfun. Lower scale is fine but some of the unit caps felt a little boring. Campaigns were stellar though, I've always considered doing a freebooterz army based on Bluddflag's colour scheme in retribution with the stripy pantaloons lol
>>98180738The Dow II campaigns are very fun, and it is also kind of silly that you can make your heroes incredibly OP with RPG items so that they can solo the entire mission
>>98180733which is good, yes. correct. CoH and DoW II are both good. Also DoW I is also diet CoH because it has the same requisition control point gameplay.
>>98180736>If you compare DoW II to Shogun... I genuinelly doubt you even play video games, but thats more /v/ talk than here.People deciding the narrative on video games seldom do, and DoW II very much got immortalised as selling out the RTS audience.>>98180733The development timeline went the other way around; DoW I and II served as the testbed for ideas that were refined by CoH I and II.
>>98180740I enjoyed DoW 2 way more than 1, because of its hybrid RPG nature. If you enjoy base building and the typical dow1 multiplayer gameplay, part 2 is not for you. But it is an excellent single player game.
I wanted to talk about the blood ravens, not the gameplay :C
>>98180772sorry chudster, carry on
>>98180730>I like that, it's just the BR being TS doesn't make them more interesting.that is subjective though. I'm biased because I'm a tsons fag. I think out of any of the chapters tsons are the most likely to have a large chunk of loyalists because they were the least supportive of horus and chaos. They basically never betrayed the imperium and just got sort of forced into tzeentchian slavery. Luna Wolves, Death Guard, EC, World Eaters all super embraced their chaotic ways and the Night Lords were already psychotic baby eaters to begin with.
>>98180604Off to show the Burrowses that it was the Bolgers who were made in the Valar's image
>>98180791>that is subjectiveI mean how does it affect the blood ravens in 40k? What changes if they are TS?All traitor legions had loyalist elements, even if huge parts of these were purged> They basically never betrayed the imperium and just got sort of forced into tzeentchian slavery. You did say you were biased :^)
>>98180591>Who?I'm one of them. Cone faces just look stupid.I know it's inspired by the bascinet helmet and those look dumb to me as well.
>>98180797I like tsons as tragic heroes (as heroic as imperials can be anyway). They did their best with the what they were given, which was dogshit. The flesh change and being psykers made everyone hate them. Magnus made a deal with tzeentch to temporarily halt the flesh change, which tzeentch probably curse them with because the primarchs were made somehow using demonic knowledge anyway. Loyalist elements that just continue to suffer for the sins of the father (the emperor and russ both fucking up with magnus in different ways) and have to hide their past IS interesting to me. Quietly managing their chaos spawn and terrified of showing the true level of occult knowledge they have is engaging. And then ultimately falling to chaos in Dow II which is also pretty good because it shows how they came to close to chaos and it corrupted them from within, showing that they are repeating the same mistakes despite trying their best. They are also similar to the tsons in that their home planet was pretty well run and taken care of and ended tragically, which again I like. It's almost like a microcosm of the themes of 40k as a whole. The secrecy and fanaticism of the imperium causes the best of them to be wasted or seen as enemies. Psychic potential is quite literally both the hope and doom of humanity, the best guard against demons and yet also the source of vulnerability to them. Because they tried to know their curse, to understand it and make the best of it they suffer.

>>98180817> have to hide their pastThey don't, they're very much on a quest to find out who they are. Not even the Great Father knew.Having a corrupted chapter master is interesting, but it's not because they are TS.I don't mean to be a cunt but it sounds like to me that you like BR being TS because you like TS in the first place.Everything you describe is good and interesting, but it misses the point. BR have all of this regardless of their origins, them being TS doesn't add anything, it's just "more of the same".Not sure if that makes sense
>>98180321>TQRogal Dorn
>>98180849I see where you are coming from, I'm generally against primarchs and 30k shit being in 40k. It just clicks in my head in the right way. I also don't think BR being tsons 'takes away' anything from them while adding a bit of interesting back story for why they are the way they are.
>>98180849>them being TS doesn't add anythingIt's an in universe reason for why they have a ton of psykers and are naturally susceptible to chaos corruption. And specifically have the power of foresight, which was of a particular focus for tsons (Ahriman was the head of the Corvidae, whose symbol is also worked into the main tsons symbol). And red.
I like orks :D
>>98180862Amen, I do think a chapter being descending from loyalist TS is very fun and interesting, with a lot of stories of shame/self-censure and tragic challenges of overcoming flaws/curses. Yes I love Blood Angels too.Have a proto rubric I found online.
>>98180869aren't there like 2 or 3 other legions with plenty of psykers, and guys whose gimmick is visions of the future regardless of the thousand sons?if there can be guys whose geneseed fucked up enough for them to get bladed forearms why can't it independently fuck up to give a closer tie to the warp?
>>98180869That's really my "issue" with it. It makes sense. Why do they have lots of psykers? Because they are TS. There could have been a thousand other reasons or stories, but no, it's just they are TS.Why are they red? TS.How can a chapter master be corrupted? It's just like in the heresy.I just go "oh, okay."And that's it. Yeah, it's exactly as expected. I mean the signs were there I suppose. Cool. That's one less loose end.I understand the appeal, but it's not my cup of tea.
>>98180321>tqAngron
>>98180881Yes, but foresight was a specialty of the tsons. Generally its one of the main disciplines of psychic powers across all of 40k. Word Bearers specialize in demonic summoning and Death Guard repressed their psychic powers as much as possible. Probably the most common is Biomancy, which is where shooting lightning out of your hands comes from.

>>98180987Im talking about rules anon, pretty much every detachment along with the army rule is centered around melee combatFulgrim is Melee, Lucius is melee, the Lord Exultant is used for melee with Infractorsonly character that helps ranged is the Lord Kakophonist and while hes fun with noise marines there isnt much rules support outside of the leader bonusthen you have to remember that half the chaos range got dropped for the EC release. >>98181034wasn't a story
>>98180897>Seriously why are so many of you subnormal freaks to whom the deliberate myth and uncertainty is something to be torn awayBecause that's just how human psychology works. The brain actively hates it when there is no "answer" or "conclusion" to a given thing. This includes mysteries as well. Your mind basically wastes energy uselessly on it in the back of your mind because the "picture" isn't complete. So it tries to come up with something to fill the gaps. For some people this uncertainty is unbearable so they want 100% set in stone concrete facts about it. Like take the 2 missing primarchs and legions.
>>98181023You don't need to be fair and this isn't realistic. There is no sensible, real world explanation for a guy being given the name "Angron" (the explanation GW gives is that it means "child of the mountain" which is an obviously ridiculous coincidence). It is simply silly writing from the days when 40k took itself less seriously, days I think should return at least in part (as much as I like gritty midhammer).
>>98181048I thought it was with how you were sperging.
>>98181042KT rules have literally nothing to do with 40k Rules. You use the same miniatures, and can repurpose terrain, but rule wise it is not related at all
hot damn i had no idea this thing was so big
>>98181055There's also pompous authors who want to get rid of the mystery in a setting to put their name on it.
>>98181062I disagree. While it's true that the name was a simple funny haha when it came to be, there is enough room to create what the name needs to make sense. You can have a silly joke name from the perspective of the audience AND have it make complete sense in universe AND it not being a joke in universe.
>>98180944Not really, primarchs are really not the big topic in 30k. People always treat it like it's a soap opera with some super heroes, but that's like 10% of the books. Some of the 60+ novels barely even mention a primarchs. Often there is 1-2 chapters worth of primarch stuff, with the rest of the book being normal humans and marines doing stuff. It's not the fault of the 30k setting that people of Reddit and /tg/ limit a 300 page book to a single fight scene between primarchs and ignore the rest.
>>98181055Nta but that doesn't adress the whole issue. When presented with a mystery, many people will revel in it, writing stories or keeping the mystery so any story can be written. We like blanks to be filled, sure, but there's a world of difference between wanting someone to fill the blanks for you and wanting to fill the blank.
>>98181081>but that's like 10% of the booksyou're being incredibly disingenuous
>>98180994And how is this related to HH or EC in 30k?
>>98181088Because the rules are designed fully around the melee aspect that EC had in the heresy rather than the more interesting things they get up to in 40kdo I really need to spoonfeed you every time its not that hard to understand
>>98181071what is that? old Forge World
>>98181066that wasn't even the suggested correlation
>>98181087I'm not. There are books that have more primarch action, like unremembered empire for example. And there are books like Deliverance lost, or nemesis with like one little dialogue between primarchs and the rest is other stuff. Some books do not involve primarchs at all, like battle for the abyss or the outcast dead.Or all the books about retarded perpetuals.. disgusting in its own right, but it's chapters upon chapters of John grammaricus doing stuff, with no primarchs involved.
>>98180897In terms of narrative and setting, it becomes a dead end with nothing to build from. This would have been fine if 40k ended 20 years ago, or they stopped writing anything about it.
>>98180929Yes that anon is 100% right. HH should feel as different and alien to 40k as 40k is to us. Ancient Egypt just Egypt 8,000 years ago and consider how different they were, as one of the richest and most technoloigcally developed kingdom compared to the best cities today.
>>98181086They do revel in it, it is true. But you notice how you said the mystery is kept so any story can be written? That's already acknowledging that even if people like the mystery, they will still go out of their way to somehow explain to themselves. Nothing wrong with this, but it just proves my point about how the human mind just doesn't like it when there's "gaps" in its knowledge.
>>98180929I prefered when the "imperial truth" was the "imperial cult" and the emperor wasn't a fedora tipping self-insert.Also yes modern 40k completely misses the point because (americanized) faggots want heroes they agree with.Marines went from psychotic terror troops presented as heroic knights to straight up heroic knights that pretend to be psychotic terror troops.
Picked the Armageddon box mostly because of orks but I guess I now also serve BigE and have a little primaris force on the side. Don't plan to get much more, at least not until I'll decide on which chapter to paint them, but I have a question for space marines players: from the starter point that the Armageddon box is, which other models would be good addictions to a small (~1500 points) primaris force?
>>98181130No because *some* people will fill it themselves. Some people keep it open. Some people keep it open to fill it.Sorry anon, I didn't go through every single reasons why mystery is good, I focused on why some people don't like mystery since they see it as a dopamine dispenser.
>>98181134Same thing happened to Spartans in Halo and the humans getting all their moral greyness washed away over time. Corporate says people want heroes.

The plan: board a Covenant vessel with the improved SPARTAN-IIs and learn the location of the Covenant home world. Two days before the mission begins, Covenant forces strike Reach and annihilate the colony. The Covenant are now on Earth’s doorstep. Individual rights are subordinated to the collective will and survival of the nation.Dictatorial Control & Militarism: Fascism favors strong, autocratic leaders (such as Il Duce in Italy or the Führer in Germany). It often glorifies military might, physical violence, and constant mobilization for war or crisis management.Anti-Democracy & Anti-Liberalism: Fascist ideology rejects both liberal democracy (which it views as weak and divisive) and Marxism/Socialism (which it views as a threat to national unity).Suppression of Dissent: Freedom of speech and the press are eliminated. Opposition is violently repressed, and the state penetrates all aspects of public and private life.Scapegoating & Purity: Fascist regimes often unify populations by directing societal grievances toward out-groups—such as minority groups, immigrants, or political enemies.copy paste definition from google. enjoy it.

They can decide what political system they want to govern themselves but they MUST worship the emperor, they MUST be fully supportive of the Imperiums political officers, like the arbites, inquisiton, they MUST pay their taxes. Its heavily oppressive despite the political autonomy.Again ill stress, laissez-faire IS NOT THE SAME AS political autonomy

>>98181042>>98181068Necromunda has similar rules and completely different models, Kill Team has same models and completely different rules.Ironic in a way.And now I'm imagining GW expanding the Necromunda Ash Wastes rules into a 2nd ed. 40k style platoon level game with blast templates, vehicle damage tables, and only about 30 guys on a side.
Guys am I trippin? I vaguely remember an Iron Hands (or their successors) story about them and their allies fighting against a common enemy. During the fight, an Iron Hands (or their successor) Dreadnought was downed for good and an allied Apothecary wanted to retrieve gene-seed. To his horror, it turned out that the dreadnought's sarcophagus was full of cables and esoteric machinery but there was no body inside which indicated tech-heresy. Of course he was quickly dispatched by his (now former) allies.Have I made it up unconsciously or was story like that ever published by GW?

1dp+2dp is a trap, who cares about minor buff to scout units. What you want is an access to better disposition. You want purge/recon/assets and you really don't want disruption/take and hold.
>>98181879There's a knight detachment that lets you soup in 500pts of admech. It's not good iirc, but it does exist. You can always ally in a single knight in an admech army as well.
>>98181898I am aware of that, but I miss the days of having Admech tanks, cavalry and infantry all marching to war with Knights towering above them.
>>98181838Its kind of funny. You can take Thundering Wagons with Blitz Brigade and they just about add up to a 2DP detachment in power but you're paying 3DP for the privelege. Also, they added Hearthband Covenant without removing Hearthband and didn't bother updating the wording on old stratagems/enhancements to match the new edition.
>>98181907It's definitely pretty gay that they didn't include at least a couple knight and armiger datasheets for that. I feel you.
>>98181723What you do in your own private domicile is not GW's business.t. playing Black Spear Task Force at 1k (its basically a 2DP detachment anyway, GW just wants to punish deathwatch players as much as humanly possible for not accepting being squatted despite being an entirely legends / no kit army)

My 8e list had I want to say both my Questoris knights and a mix of infantry, Dog Cav and tanks/Dunestriders. No allies or anything but fun.
>>98181948It's probably on the MFM because they want to update it frequently

Lets take a look>all quins have stealthOMG Yippie we got something good.>11th edition rules: Units that have [Stealth] have the benefit of cover>is stripped by flamers, ignores cover etc>doesnt even matter because of hidden mechanicYikes, I should have known GW wouldn't do anything good for my punished armies.
>>98181962I mean, I think its probably still an improvement overall. Just such a tiny one that harlequins are even weaker because half the armies in 40k just got even more lethal and efficient combos.
So is having the core rules that are unlikely to change in a book and rules that are likely to change connstantly in the app a big brained move?
>watch a youtube video on soviet WW2 tanks>KV-2 genuinely looks like it came straight from the astra militarumlooks very ugly but in a cool sort of way
>>98181960you'd think the rules update that changes the wording of the rules of the detachments to update them to the new rules of the edition would also include the new keywords of the edition.>because they want to update it frequentlythat's going to be so immersion breaking.>this detachment has the auxiliaries keyword and can't be taken with the auxiliaries keyword>"we noticed in the last balance dataslate that these 2 detachments weren't doing so well, so we removed the keywords preventing you from taking them together"this whole thing seems poorly thought out.
>>98181879I can say the same with Witch Hunters and Genestealer cult.Oh I can play with sisters, assassins, marines, inquisitors and Imperial Guard? Cool!GSC same thing. hybrids, nids and IG. >>98181894Whats wrong with Disruption and Take and Hold?
>>98181971>astra mili whatNo wonder you think that way.
>>98181974It really sucks hard. Truly a shame that fun, narrative choices are butchered between tourney abuse and bad rules writers.
Noob here. Taking a detachment and paying whatever extra points cost for the enhancement for a single character seems like a steep price, is the benefit actually worth it?
>>98181977i believe those are the ones you need to do a lot of actions to score points. the other ones are just holding 1 or 2 objectives while blowing up the enemy.
>>98181955In Dread Mob my Stompa picked up a Knight every shooting phase. The problem was, it only managed to pick up its points value worth of Knights before dying lmao
>>98182004the 3dp detachments are 3dp because they are the best/most tournament popular. the problem with cool/good 1dp detachments is that you have to take dogshit 2dp detachments.
>>98182002It's a pretty fluffy detachment but it depends on the cost. 30 points its probably worth it desu. 50 not so much. 80 its a joke.
>>98182005Are you the Anon with the silver and gold Stompas? Not enough people run the Stompa, an absolute shame for such a cool model.
I hereby propose that the new faction packs be collectively referred to as the Blech Rulebook.
I come today with a revolutionary idea. What if classic boxnoughts became a support character you can attach to basic squads? No need for any complex ability, adding its weapons and wounds would already be valuable for footslogging squads. Would give them a pretty different niche to the bigger redemptor chassis.
>>98182004Disruption requires actions. Take and Hold is all about objectives and killing people on objectives, about what you'd expect.>>98176420
>>98182018Nah, I'm a Blorks lurker.
>>98182008Hopefully some of the dogshit gets demoted to 1dp with the next MFM. We'll just have to accept the first six months of the edition is a wash.
>>98182033I still appreciate you either way, Anon.
>>98182034Black Spear Task Force is 3DP. I'm dead.
>>98182008Feels like a straight buff for the 2DP detachments since you get an extra Force Disposition/Detachment rule/Enhancements from the 1DP.
>>98182043most 2dp detachments aren't 1 super specific buff from being good. I don't think +3 inch detection range while within 12inches of units you don't want to take anyways will make 2dp detachments good.we'll have to see if Force Dispositions are unbalanced enough that you wouldn't want to take the best detachment because it averages like 20 points less per game on primary.
>>98181713I hope that my preferred detachment is 3DP so that I don't have to feel like I'm gimping myself by not taking another (I genuinely don't care about any other detachments)
What a weird naming conflict with the new gsc detachment.xenocreed congregationxenocult massesWhat's next?xenogroup consortiumxenofaith lumpenprolexenochurch crowdsxenosect populousxenoschism movement
>>98182008The actual problem I have right now is that I want to take two 1DP detachments, but I don't have a third. Black Templar have one for Emperor's Champion which is cool, one for Chaplains which is cool. But the third is for Sword Brethren and seems kinda weak...? Even I'm mistaken about that, I've only got the four from the Combat Patrol so I'd probably have to buy at least two more squads. If I want to go for C:SM detachments instead...Librarian Conclave is right out obviously. That leaves Fulgurite whatever (speeders), of whose models I have zero and who don't seem very thematic with Black Templars, and Subversion Assets (scouts/phobos), of whose models I have zero and don't seem very thematic with Black Templars.Probably gonna have to go with the Chaplain detachment and one of the 2DP detachments and leave the poor Champion without his cool toys.
My issue with all this is that I play a now 2DP detachment and none of the current 1DP detachments fit the playstyle.
>>98182091Which one?
>>98182018>>98182033ooh, speaking of stompas, I have one on a sprue, and plan to do it sometime soon. but do you think an orky version of this design would be a waste of a good stompa? the idea is that the tribe is full of militaristic stomboyz and the head will be on the stompas belly, and a big chain axe fasces on the top, with a bunch of white text reading something among the lines of “ya” clumsily painted on. the only thing really holding me back is that it’ll be painted completely black, so I’ll pass up the chance of making a walking mural/war totem.
>>98182094Firestorm. I was hoping Orbital Assault became 1DP but we can't have drop pods be viable I guess.
Green Tide + Taktikal Brigade? How we feeling Ork bros? That's the only "wombo combo" I can see right now. Otherwise it's maybe More Dakka with something else or just straight Warhorde again unless you have the models to spam some very specific archetype. SAD
>>98182091I play chaos so I haven't seen mine yet obviously but I fear this is going to happen to me. There should be a mechanic where you get a little bonus if you don't use all of your DP.
So you choose a detachment based on what models you like to use, and then your detachment determines your "disposition"? How do you decide your disposition if you have multiple detachments?
>>98181977Every primary already wants you to hold objectives.Holding objectives is hard. Now purge/assets/recon give you additional vp for doing easier stuff: killing units, making actions, holding quarters.Meanwhile scoring more on tnh/disrupt usually requires you to hold even more objectives.

Even if went with the idea that the top drum isn't clipping into the bottom gun, it'd leave the top guns with less ammo than the bottom guns, as the body of the bottom gun takes up space from the ammo box. Not an ideal system for guns designed to fire in unison.
>>98183893>printable stateNot the same guy, but GW puts to "print" slop and has been doing it for years. Somehow automatic slop is now wrong.Slop is slop regardless of who or what made it.
>>98183915cute cope mohindur
>>98183912Why even have a magazine. I recall other weapons with the same idea, like the hurricane bolters that at least pretended the boltguns where connected to a big ammo box.
