How does your setting handle Gnolls. I think they're neat but I'm struggling to come up with anything beyond what's already been done with them.
>>98192928Demon worshipping flesh eating monsters....You know, like gnolls.
>>98192928don't bring them if you can't think of anything to do with them.
>>98192928Cheapest whores one can buy and a pretty good lay if you are OK with fleas and crabs.
>>98193050Crabs arent crabs, they're pubic liceLice are insectsAnd of course insects are actually highly specialized members of the prawnsAnd prawns are highly modified crabsSo crabs are crabsBut what they also are is a split of head lice which are obligate human parasites. They arent transmissible to or from any other animal species, which regardless of if they're crabs or canines you still shouldnt fuck btw
>>98193075You should hit the textbooks again. Gnoll crabs are universally transmissible.

>>98192928I don't use the name Gnoll cuz it carries too much D&D baggage. In my setting they're 1 of a group of subspecies of Viverrid beastfolk. They primarily live in the southern plains or on a northern plateau in roving hunter-gatherer tribes. They're ravenous eaters so they often raid border colonies and other tribal species settlements. The majority of them have shamans and revere nature spirits and elementals. The more violent of their kind band together and worship the Sin Archdevil of Gluttony. It's primarily the latter that give their kin a bad reputation among other species. Outside that their culture is focused on oral traditions with song and storytelling both being very important. Food plays into almost all of their rituals whether it be preparation, hunting, harvesting, or consumption. They raise their young communally. The strongest females acting as protectors of the homestead while men are hunters, warriors, laborers, and explorers. Weak or elderly members are left to do menial tasks/chores and care for the children.

>>98192928I had an idea a long time ago for a dnd campaign where the main villains would be a species of northern gnolls (basically wolf men) who had been outcompeted by other monstrous races and were slowly dying off. Their leader had gathered all the tribes together to commit to a massive attack on some generic good guy nation (probably halflings) in a desperate bid to either form their own nation or go out with a bang. For fun I planned to have them allied with a bunch of other rarely used monsters.
>>98192928Instead of worrying about what's already been done with them, you should just do what you want with them.
>>98192928Varangian Guard
>>98192928>I think they're neat but I'm struggling to come up with anything beyond what's already been done with them. Why reinvent the wheel?I just do gnolls as retarded bands of bloodthirsty barbarians that roam and raze everything in their path until they pick the wrong spot and get eradicated. The most intelligent and refined gnolls form infamous mercenary companies that follow the same modus operandi as the Dirlewanger Brigade.
in my setting Gnolls are the prophesized forms of Dul(polytheistic demon worshipping tribal people) who worship Togwydd, the father of beasts. The end of the world is upon us and the Dul have begun to shift into these forms in never before seen numbers and vanish deep underground. nobody knows why.
>>98192928Beastman in my setting are bioweapons crafted by interdimensional aylmaos by doing genetic engineering on humans to wage war against humanity.Yeah I stole it from the second apocalypses but my setting is grimdark-grimderp-grimbased so it works.
>>98192928Gnolls aren't a generic species. They're a specific D&D thing with specific lore. Read that if you want ideas. Otherwise, add the hyena furries to your game and do whatever you want with them.
Hmmm... Slavery. Lots and lots of slavery with pinch of gastronomic darwinism.
Futanari furry rapists
>>98192928Take a look at pic related, it might help you come up with some ideas beyond the typical anthro-hyena savage that's commonplace.
The Krokuta in Psi-Wars are hyena men who respond particularly strongly to combat drugs; they're often used as foot-soldiers and enforcers of the Slaver cartels.
>>98192937that's 90% of the monsters
>>98192928>How does your setting handle Gnolls. As people.
>>98192928what exactly are gnolls anyway?t. D&D-let
>>98192928If the setting has beastfolk, like ghouls or a curse that made them hunger for blood and violence. If it doesn't like the worst kind of vikings or cartoony stupid hyena people.
>>98192928Primitive and aggressive half beasts that only organize into the most basic form of hunting packs. Noteven tribal structures. But every year during mating season the latent female psychic control awakens and they form massive migratory hordes that devastate whole regions in their hormone fuelled and surprisingly well organized rages. Once mating season ends the hordes disperse into infighting packs again and scatter, but unless culled once a year these orgies of slaughter and destruction snowball out of control from season to season, and the Gnolls turn into a genuine threat that can topple entire Kingdoms.
>>98203981Nowadays the usual interpretation even outside D&D is "hyena-people", which comes the implication of being particularly aggressive marauders and strict carnivores. Also Schroedinger’s pseudopenis.D&D / Pathfinder still themes them as irredeemably evil demonspawn (as opposed to Orcs and Dark Elves, who can be PC races too).In other settings they are closer to "barbarians" and more of an opportunistic raiders. Despite visual similarity, no relation with cynocephaly ("dog-people") or werewolves.
