What would be the best system for running a campaign about Norse mythology?
>>98194321Wolves of the Coast, Pendragon (but everyone makes Saxons, Danes or Germans as per Book of Lords and Ladies) or even your standard Pathfinder 2e. Really, the question is more what aspect of the Norse you want to explore; is it the mythology? The sea-raiding? The reality of their society?
>>98194321GURPS has a Vikings sourcebook.
>>98194348>is it the mythology? The sea-raiding? The reality of their society?A little bit of everything; I was thinking of an adventure where players will have to embark on a journey across unknown shores to prevent Ragnarok.
>>98194360>I was thinking of an adventure where players will have to embark on a journey across unknown shores to prevent Ragnarok. Then you want something fantastical. I don't care what anyone else says, it sounds like you want either 5e or PF2e. Wolves of the Coast is too "realistic" and Pendragon is too "epic literature." You're asking for a proper high fantasy premise.
Age of vikings
>>98194321Runequest or BRP.It's been the best since 1985 when the Runequest Vikings box came out.
Thread is young but noone suggested MYFAROG yet? I'm disappointed in you fa/tg/uys
>>98194516No one bothered because as a recommendation thread the implication is that op was after a game worth playing.
>>98194321Can you clarify the tone? Are you going for something grounded and brutal, or heroic saga kind of thing? If it is a heroic saga any of the fantasy dnd-likes including dnd would work.If it is a more grounded thing, BRP would be a good idea.
>>98195575A bit of grimmdark wouldn't be bad
Viking Death Squad of course.
>>98195587That could apply to a heroic saga too, there’s very dark stuff in those all the time. The question was more on the power level of the PCs; is this a “beating a dark elf is a glorious moment” type of setting? Or is it more, “I don’t want to worry about diseases or fatigue and my heroes act like Beowulf.”
>>98195032but it would have been funny
>>98194321Something with good stakes for failure, since on a boat for long voyages a blade to the leg is a serious problem without healers readily available...>>98194351Might look into this.
>>98194321Scion
I know the horns aren't canon, but they look great.
Bodil's Gap is a good norse-fantasy sourcebook for Dungeon World.
