Why'd they make the Tau so boring? They could've made an interesting multi-species empire instead we get bland slightly different castes of Tau with an occasional token Kroot.

What happened to the sexy blue women?

Don't some of the vassel races get mentioned in the books? What role would the psyker bears have as an actual unit?

Because they made the mechs OP and so people only bought the mechs and not the auxillaries who had been bad and sales end up determining what gets expanded on. Tau vehicles also got run through the shitter because they got power crept out of usefulness and so they won't design more.

The Tau castes would have been more interesting if 99% of content wasn't Fire and Ethereal castes. Or they gave Tau literally any actual new content outside their codex and a single 2 page short story each edition. Though this is the fate of a lot of factions any more.

because they're the Star Trek Federation ie America

Did the Federation snag a bunch of Klingon scientists after the war?
>>
>>98203055
I think they had an idea for a Convenant style thing but the mechs ended up being what sold so the mechs got focused in on. I'm not sure if it's because of them being "OP" as >>98203339 says or just because mechs are more normie-accessible and make easy tabletop centrepieces.

As a Tau diaspora enjoyer the Votann/Demiurg retcons were kinda shit: the ACKSHUALLY Votann invented both the Ion and Railgun tech the Tau use, and Votann are just less interesting than Demiurg originally looked to be. But some of the auxiliary stuff like the Nicassar is just not very well suited to the tabletop.

IDK. Tau have had some really hard times in lore terms too. They had years maybe even a decade being written almost exclusively by dudes who seemed to hate them.

Wort wort.

If you go by engineering manuals? Yes, Klingon engineers had a heavy influence into Federation ship design especially when it came to redundancies and strengthening the hull.

They did that, but the auxiliaries that weren't Kroot never got pushed in fiction.

What's more, the Kroot got Terror Bird elements, but the Vespid design sucks ass. They're just scary, spiky scifi insects, while going by their fluff, they should resemble Mole Crickets.

You say that as if 40k has better alien representation.

Don't the Tau have a Friendly Kaiju Client Species?

This isn't interesting, it's boring. Just look at the Covenant. Incredibly dull.
Battlesuits are interesting.

I see them more as the Dominion from Star Trek, with Ethereals firlmy on top of the extremely rigid pyramid.
I have bought the kroot battalion box, are kroot any good? They look very cool.
Vespids I love as well. Tau is very cool.
>>
>>98203055
When the Tau came out in 3rd edition, Kroot made up a substantial portion of their total available units because there weren't many yet, and Kroot Mercenaries even got their own army list in Chapter Approved. In the 4th edition codex, Vespid were added, so GW was clearly working towards expanding the coalition of the Tau to include more new races at the time.

Partway through 4th edition most of the great creatives that made 40k as awesome as it was left the company. 5th was the beginning of the downfall for everything, Tau becoming boring and no longer adding new xenos auxiliaries were just one part of that.

Yeah, it'd be fun to get a model for that I guess.
