Why do JoTC hate guns so much? Spongebob is fine but GOD FORBID a goblin has a gun of some sort even on a special island like in Portal Second Age. Is it because the leftists wants to take our guns away? Is it because at some point they just sold out and went "fuck it just whore out the IP to anything"?Fuck me.
>>98203092>JoTCyou already know the answer.Still, guns don't belong in MtG, just like Spongebob, Mahvel, Akira slides, vehicles, colorswaps, zesty haircuts, body positivity, 80s horror movies, cowboys, art deco mafia or Mark Rosewater.Power armors and jagged looking mechs (not nu-kamigawa shit) are based though, fuck Mark for not liking them.
>>98203092That set was printed before you were born. It was not meant to be canon. In fact, none of the cards in that image were legal in ANY format - except for Goblin Raider, due to it being printed in Saga. Learning to play via Portal 2 and then finding out I couldn't actually use the cards at FNM pissed me off to no end. What you don't know is that Magic in the 90s was still in flux. No one understood what it was, or what it should be. Blocks, tournaments, the beginner/intermediate/expert set pipeline - all of these standardized Magic into a "sport" that could be presented to the outside world. But some of the people designing Magic still believed in "boxed sets" which resulted in things like Anthologies and Beatdown and Deckmasters. Some people needed a creative outlet for insider jokes, which gave us Unglued. And some might have "tested the waters" regarding the "acceptable" level of technology in Magic via Portal 2. After all, it was a side product that would never get played once its consumers moved on to the "intermediate" base sets. The problem is that, for a majority of people consuming "fantasy" products, a gun is "too real." It breaks the suspension of disbelief. It's too scientific - not because of tech level but because it works off scientific principles while magic is generally a faith/belief thing, even with study. It's setting-warping: which magic beasts can withstand bullets? What about mages or kings getting shot - what defenses are there? Guns push the timeline from pseudo-medieval to pseudo-enlightenment. Even if IRL they existed in parallel with knights, the perception of the audience is colored by their present-day incarnations.>>98203704No matter how much you may deny it, Maro was printed in Mirage. He has a place in Magic.
>>98204052>MaroNot the same, Maro is wholesome, MaRo ran this game on a ditch.>but because it works off scientific principlesNope, it's because it is an instant death stick that gives powers to the unskilled.
>>98206556Good thing there's magic to bring it down to manageable. I don't want AKs in magic but I wouldn't mind seeing magic flintlocks or puckle guns or at least cannons. Hell, having ammo-based artifacts could be fun. Or at least throw them into some art. We ended up getting a wild west plane without anything resembling a gun, last I checked. It felt like something missing.
>>98212142>a wild west planeThat shouldn't have happened, it sucked ass.
>>98203092>Is it because at some point they just sold out and went "fuck it just whore out the IP to anything"?Yes. Guy had ideal and sold them.
