Yes to both.
My Kabal and Coven have a shattered realm of an abandoned and eroded webway palace complex converted into a museum of trophies arcane and still living.
My Wych Cult have a vast labyrinth flooded with memory-sapping mists they hunt through and spill forth into Realspace to raze and reap new victims to hunt through the maze and are constantly on the prowl

My admech have an Ark Mechanicus that they use as a mobile forgeworld, so nomads.
My SoBs are based on the hive world of Reno IV
My BTs I have no idea about, I have not really thought of it. Probably just fleet based with a lot of worlds they recruit from as they pass

I think I'm going to run 1k lists when I get back into the game. It'll consist of blanket tyranids with spinefist gaunts and hormagaunts. Roughly 4 termagaunt units, 3 hormagaunt units, prime with whip+alien cunning and a ripper swarm to finish points.

Swarms at 1k are harsher than swarms at 2k. People cannot take their biggie boys so easily and they'll lose if they do it at 1k. I'm starting to think 1k is the way to go. I'll warn people about the list before playing at the start until they get to know my playstyle.
>better to move around 142 models instead of 300+ models at 2k.

This might be a long shot but does anyone here have the really old metal gsc hybrid models? Ive seen someone selling them on marketplace and thought it would be cool to use them as proxies in my gsc army, just swap out a few arms with hand flamers and use them as flaccos, was just wondering if the size comparison from those models to the current acolyte hybrids was quite different

I feel like its setting the groundwork for a GSC update/revamp. I could see GW swapping out some kits so they aren't pure "spacesuits and mining tools" and some are more ramshackle citizenry uprising stuff. The bit in particular about the tech priest is interesting in this regard.
Basically the tech priest behind the malstrain is technically long dead, but the blobmonster the og genestealer became as the malstrain patriarch reconstitutes a mental back up of him out of infected flesh so no matter how many times he is killed by gangers or cops a new copy will rise out the soupy run off of the patriatch-thing.

Which seems like taking the whole "Kellermorph isnt a person but genetic foresight recreating the same idealised folk hero on multiple worlds" idea to a whole new level. The idea of a Primus a space marines could pop in his fist like an apple just jumping to or growing a new body is a real "this isn't a snake, its a hyrda" type power scale uptick for GSC. Makes them fit more as a threat and not just background noise if they are so hard to burn out of a planet.

Repostan

Since GW merged engineers and grenadiers I wanted to see what an updated engineer might look like. The head and helmet are placeholders and the kneepads will need to ajusting (size & position), but I like where the photo-montage is going.

Shoulder pads are based on the old Jes Goodwin imperial army and I'd like to put more old krieg inspiration into the design (hence the lense cover)

R8 my shit, inputs/opinions welcome

To that level in that pic? Sure. But that scheme slap chops extremely well. Undercoat black, gray scale, contrast color, highlight, small details, done.
>>
>>98205188
>I feel like its setting the groundwork for a GSC update/revamp. I could see GW swapping out some kits so they aren't pure "spacesuits and mining tools" and some are more ramshackle citizenry uprising stuff.
That could be kinda neat.
I know it's not 100% accurate but I could see malstrain become a stand-in for Ymgarl genestealers. What I mean is that there used to be special rules for Ymgarl where they used to have the ability where they just spontauneusly mutate traits on the tabletop.
Which could make sense and be possible with the malstrain due to their damaged genetics which would also make sense to be unstable due to the said genetic damage.

Not really sure how they'd bring malstrain to regular 40k from a lore perspective though. Since from what I understand from reading their fluff, all of malstrain are currently confined to planet of Necromunda only.
I guess they could do the typical genestealer thing where some malstrain genestealers stow away on a space ship and then get spread to other planets that way.

The uh… slapchop method as usual. Prime black, grey scale with mechanicus grey, administratum or wolf grey, then white scar on the highest ridges. Then black templar contrast for the black parts, then whatever colors you chose for the other parts, then I’d do final edge highlights and the red details from the scheme, then small details like eyes and other particularly small parts that need detail, should be good to go.

There's your problem. 40k was never supposed to even be a "competitive" game and the comp scene makes up only 1-2% of players and hobbyists. Also tbf, hasn't Typhus always been kind of a dick that has butted heads with Mortarion often in the past too? Like even during the Great Crusade days their "friendship", I guess you'd call it, was kinda eh.
Also also, it doesn't help that Typhus basically betrayed the DG and Mortarion since it was Typhus who lured their ship into shitty spot within the Warp which then caused Nurgle to start corrupting and inflicting his plagues onto Mortarion and the DG. Which kind of established that Typhus just doesn't care about Morty or what he says at this point, due to power literally going into Typhus' head since he is arguably on the same standing in Nurgle's army as Mortarion who is a daemon prince, while Typhus is still just a "mortal" in sense.

I've seen a couple at big meme events around Christmas before, so I knew the size to expect. As for models inside... depends? on their bases.. maybe 10-12 lmao. fairly sure if they were actually standing normally inside it COULD fit 30.. but it would be very cramped.

I went through my old Tau codex from 4ED just for this bit of art as I try to catch up on where 40k is now. What the fuck is the context here? It always struck me as weird to have them just talking face to face and helmets off like they're somewhat relaxed with each other. Is it first contact and the guy brought a Space Marine for protection? Maybe he's thinking they should see how cool he is before Damocles begins? Is it negotiating a ceasefire? Does the Imperium even do negotiations with xenos in official capacity? Was a ceasefire even ever formally negotiated? Such a weird bit of art, but I feel like an official context would spoil the mystery.
>>
>>98206065
It's going to be something they can fiddle with 20 times a year to get people uncomfy and buying more product.

Other than actually balancing something, because what's stopping them from bringing 1 to 2 in a 750-1000pt game?
>>
>>98206074
>What the fuck is the context here?
Fairly sure it's written next to it
>>
>>98205853
I like that GW heard the complaint about the rogal dorn having no bottom and gave this one
>bottom
>detailed interior (even if very simple)
>extra dudes for passengers
>Tow hook for field battery

Fuck GW but this should be highlighted.
>>
Ork bros, outside of war horde what detachments are you planning on stacking? Id love to play dread mob + more dakka but i dont have enough walkers for it
>>
>>98206074
>Does the Imperium even do negotiations with xenos in official capacity
Yes? The water caste wouldn't be able to convince human worlds to join the Tau if Imperial governors simply shot any non-human that knocked on their door. I'm sure the Imperium does business with Eldar Corsairs as well.
>>
>>98206106
yeah I actually really like the Centaur on both a design and mold standpoint, wish the Guard had more shit like it and the Tauros.
>>
Hate on this drop but I hate how Russian-inspired the IG is.
>>
>>98206131
>Imperial governors are always loyal and haven't been caught dealing with worse
I can believe an Imperial talking to the Tau, but an Imperial Fist is another story. There's a short story where the Iron Lords (so not IF to be fair) purge an entire planet for cooperating with Tau who took over.
>>
>>98206080
At least in that codex all I saw was that Damocles began after the Tau had been coercing non-loyal worlds pretty much instantly and I didn't see any context about negotiations with any officials but rogue elements of the Imperium. Though reverse image searching turns out it's a 3ed image reused and the context is from there and the mystery is ruined but also kind of cool. I'm trying to go edition by edition starting from where I left (4ed) to get perspective on what's changed in regards to Tau since I long wondered where GW was trying to go with them. It's probably safe to assume the status quo is more or less the same, I assume
>>
>>98206074
The Imperium's anti-Xenos policies are dogmatic to a fault, but the reality is that many worlds conduct negotiations and trade deals with Xenos. If the authorities catch wind of it they can get purged for it, but 99% of the time, the Arbites and Inquisition have bigger fish to fry than arresting every noble having talks with the Tau, Squats, or Eldar

Generally speaking, GW does nothing significant with Xenos factions from edition to edition. Orks are pretty much identical to how they've always been, Eldar lore hasn't seen any meaningful changes or advancements since 2nd edition (Ynnari got memoryholed like they deserve), and Tau are still a slowly growing proto-Empire gradually finding out just how fucked up the Galaxy really is. At most they'll add some new lore via a new model release, but that's more or less it.
Frankly all the 'evolving' storylines GW tries to force nu-40k into are dogshit anyways, so the stasis of Xenos factions is infinitely preferable.
>>
>>98206139
>literally the coolest thing.jpg
>>
>>98206146
The Imperium had wider dealings with the Tau when the Tyranid invasions of the Eastern Fringe started.
>>
>>98206179
>Orks are pretty much identical to how they've always been,
I wish, they used to have more SOVL and potential, now they're just psychic* green chavs who make guns out of scrap. I know RT generally doesn't count but that's when a lot of Ork stuff was penned.
*this is very tenuous in the official lore and got completely blown out of proportion in fanon
In general the xenos are static because, despite the memes, GW doesn't retcon if they don't have to.

>>98206179
I think Necrons are literally the only one that has seen any significant changes and that's only because GW literally rewrote them entirely.
GSC and Votann are one-note and too new to effect anything and the rest all have pretty much been status quo since 3rd edition.

This. FOC’s are meaningful when your selections are all rather viable. As a guard player it was always a tough choice what to put into my heavy support slot. A lot of options that are good at different things. While FOC’s suck when units are strictly better than others.

It’s a balancing of rules within the faction that makes FOC’s great. But you can’t be lazy, and we all know GW writes good rules for whatever models that haven’t broken even on capital costs yet. NPV is everything.

The Imperial Fist and the Imperial official were on a Tau world as diplomats to negotiate the status of the Hive World of Nimbosa. The Imperialsw weren't there in good faith. It was a delaying tactic by the Imperials while their forces were hiding to the planet.

The Tau removing the helmet was an Ethereal in disguise. He told them that the Tau are aware that it's a delaying tactic and that the Tau are already prepared to rebuff the Imperial unwarranted aggression.

Yes and its been hilarious watching them gaslight the community about armies that are unfun and dead to play against while they glaze them in video but then only take the most meta-stomp bullshit army to events. Im in the art of war discord just to watch Nick, John and Jack lie to their community and watch them squirm when you politely ask why they didnt run another army they said on video a day ago was actually "really good".

Dunno, GW knows that people will buy anything so they don't even have to pretend they are trying at this point. Luckily 11E is just 10E but with FAQ and errata baked in so you can just use all the 10E Combat Patrol rules.

With cover, if 1 model in a unit is not "in cover" then there is no cover for the unit (so no -1 to hit). Paired with the fact that you can toe- any objective to see through it, it makes staging impossible in no mans land. this makes every melee army and shooting army entirely predictable so running max hullspam is simply the best.

So a good combat patrol/starter box is one that has units people actually want, doesn't have very many or any units people don't want to use, and will generally give you a functioning army if you simply buy like 2 of them and a couple other units of your choice.

Looking through them, I feel like most guard players don't want that many horses, sob players don't want that many flagellants, and any others I'm missing?
The old drukhari one is incredible since you can literally buy like 3 or 4 of them and use everything.

I have zephyrim, seraphim, Celestine, and 1 exorcist so I might want to lean into the detachment that buffs those and makes those work together, but then I also have 4 immolators so I might want to just stick with Bringers like I've always done in the past, but then they also made Champions of Faith only 2DP and that's my second favorite detachment since it buffs 3 of my favorite units. So I'm excited and anxious to start listbuilding and testing with new points costs. But they're making us wait.

I'm also still not sure what "disposition" I like. Bringers locks you into Purge the Foe, while Champions of Faith+Chorus lets me choose between Disruption and Recon and I don't know if I like one of those more. I feel like I might want to choose a Disposition first, and then choose a detachment second according to which ones give that Disposition. I haven't considered that but it makes sense.

I'm excited!

Those are just the holiest and most symbolic three. They're not limited from using plasma and the average list has tons of plasma pistols. They also happily use exorcist missiles and castigator battle cannons. Novitiates use regular stubbers and autoguns, and let's not forget that all repentia and officers and zephrym have power swords and eviscerators and chainswords. Oh, and one my personal favorites, the stake crossbow.

How do you guys deal with dice tilt? The following is not hyperbole:

17 out of 20 game turns (so 4 total games) my opponents have spiked most dice rolls. I am talking 12 wounds and nine are 6s for dev wounds, roll a 6 or die and rolling four 6s, saving 10 wounds on a 5+ on repeat, sustained 2 + lethal rolling TWENTY 6s out of sixty shots while only missing a few naturally, level of spike. Meanwhile I also spiked down 15 out of 20 game turns, and spiked up 2 out of 20. I am talking 12 wounds, 4++, then fail them all and then pass one 5+++. The two spike ups were what won me the one game because my wraith 5+++ was hot.

I know "you cant lose on dice" is flung around but one game was a win by 2 points(wraith over-performing), another was a loss by 4, and two were blowouts because my opponents had difficulty NOT wounding anything while I would need a 3+ across 10 dice and roll two. I changed out my dice every game too. The only reason I won one and came close was another was because I was playing my A game taking advantage of terrain, LoS blocking, and greatly over committing on destroying units while positioning for secondaries well.

The blowouts were close turns one and two despite heavy loses because I was playing for VP better, but I was hemorrhaging units too quickly. Example 10 incidental bolter level shots doing 8 wounds to a Ctan shard and then 10+ from a landfort because I cant roll a 4++/5+++ style losses. I am not over exposing or presenting one target to feed, but I lose tough units to one or two units.

One crazy game is fine, four in a row of losing units a turn early because I can't roll a more than a few 3+ is tilting me. I just want a normal game where a single 6 is dramatic, but a landfort saving on seas of 5/6 where any one fail would have finished it off and then it wiping multiple units a turn is driving me nuts.

Thank you for attending my rant.

You say "it is what it is" and move on.
>>
>>98207220
who tf says "you cant lose on dice". You absolutely lose on dice. Thats the whole point of the game, we have randomness to make it interesting and asymmetrical. The chaos of random outcomes is more fun than determined outcomes. There ARE war and skirmish games that have no RNG but people prefer the random dice rolls.

THE DICE TELL A STORY.

Some people take random too personally.
If an event is possible then it might happen.
If probabilities favour you it doesn't mean you won't fail. If probabilities are against opp it doesn't mean he can't just oops all 6s.
If you make a correct play and got punished by dice it's still a correct play.
3+ or 4+ without rerolls (or 9+ reroll charge fron deep strike) are bad chances, if you depend on those you're doing something wrong if it's not the last ditch play.

I will never play a monomelee army because failing several charges in a turn will always put you in gigatilt.

The point is that some people say you cant lose to dice; meaning you lost at the tactics level and dice didnt over perform and save you. Meaning that if you lost, it was 100% skill issue that you didn't set up better scenarios rendering bad dice rolls irrelevant.

>>98207261
OK but I tam talking extreme odds, like 4.59394e-10 odds happening consistently. I understand average dice isn't most dice but 9/12 dice being 6s and that being the standard average of rolls is crazy. if 10d6 average is 35, we're talking that average being 50+ instead consistently. The spieks should be relatively equal on either side of the average, but 17 turns of it being on the higher extreme ends really soured my grapes.

ah, they are comp players. makes sense. comptards have this weird complex about making out the game to be extremely skill intensive because they like it. It's like an "appeal to skill" fallacy type thing. There is no question skill plays a major role, but if you haven't won or lost a game just because one of you got BTFO by dice you haven't played very many games of warhammer.

It kind of reminds me of that type of person who NEVER thinks anyone is cheating in counterstrike even if they get banned and the system tells you they cheated and they rolled the whole lobby shooting people through walls.

Had a dream I was on a podcast show where they were reviewing the little amateur cinematic trailer I had made for my dudes. And the only feedback the dude kept giving was "where are all the women and blacks"
But man I wish you guys could see that trailer. It was badass and gave me so many ideas that ive instantly forgotten now ive woken up.

Am I reading this right? If I run a blob of 20 Death Korp of Krieg models, I can equip two vox casters. Does this mean that each time I hit that blob with a stratagem, I roll 2 d6 (one for each vox caster) and potentially gain up to 2 command points per stratagem?
>>
>>98207536
I had a dream where I was the CEO of mitsubishi motors and I made the company stop selling shitbox cars to people with shit credit and instead reintroduced the eclipse as a hot hatch to compete with Golf Rs and Corolla GRs, the Lancer Evo, the GTO(3000gt) renamed the Type Zero as a bad ass sportscar, and the Montero as a hardcore offroad SUV.
>>
>>98207548
In 10th the max CP you could gain from the ability of a given unit was 1 unless specially stated otherwise.
So I'm pretty sure what would happen is you'd roll 2 D6 and only gain a max of 1 CP per round from the Vox Casters.

Yeah man. I had advertising make a superbowl spot for the new lancer that I showed to the board. It started off with a mounted knight pulling down his visor, a mounted samurai tying his demon mask on, a rally driver pulling down his helnet visor, and a commuter putting on his sun glasses, and it flashes between all the pike men, archers, off road hazards, and road traffic they have to avoid on their mission. The ad ends with the knight and the samurai in slow motion about to run a poor soldier through (not shown), the ralt driver mid air through a stage finish, and the commuter drifting into a parking spot. Then the ad goes black and it says “lancer”.

The board hated it and my tenure as CEO was short.

I use gel super glue and it gets "good enough" pretty quick.
If that's not enough you might need to pin it.

I use putty to keep the model in place. Once the glue dries I pull the putty off, ball it up and either use it on another model or put it back in the tub.

Custodes shouldn't be an army. A handful of units attached to an Imperial Agents thing at best but now they're just another Space Marine +1 army when we already have anwyere from Grey Knights to Primaris to debatably forms of CSM as an upgraded Marine.

Mordrak may be the only special character I actually have an interest in building a force around.
Representing his ghostly companions as Paladins makes it a heck of a lot easier to differentiate them and base terminators.

its true though. owning models period does show you actually participate in the hobby, and aren’t a subhuman secondary, but if you spend money on pic related that doesn’t necessarily mean you have any authority to say if the model is good or bad.

Which is a moot point because Custodes are genecrafted to such an insane degree that their base biology is basically an afterthought. Of all the arguments against femstodes, you pick the most retarded take one.

I didnt buy it just for this reason. The GSV versus Death Cult DLC already added TONS to the game and I did a second playthrough (im autistic and couldnt stop myself from doing EVERYTHING again, every single system and encounter) that was 200+ hours and I just dont see the appeal of replaying a game that is 99% and likely worse integrated than the 1st DLC.

Doesn't look like she has less muscle mass than a male or the typical body structure of a female. The models are obviously just head swaps, so no difference there.

Hermiatus is paradoxically the quintesential tech priest, I'm surprised there are no basic "dude in red robes with mechadendrites" minis. All techpriests either have spider legs, or heavier armor with a big axe or something. The closest other than hermiatus is the technoarcheologist.

>>98207844
Valhalans also have a tiny dash of Brits added. The Cain audiobooks gave them a northern/cockney accent.
>>
>>98207874
I'm guessing that's more to do with the majority of voice actors in Britain not being able to pull off a convincing Russian accent, so they just picked typical "working class" British voices.
>>
>>98207844
I think he means how the Guard is basically Soviet Red Army inspired with mass waves of infantry with no regard to their lives and a commissariat injecting itself to instill discipline by summary executions.
>>
>>98204860
necromunda really is the best thing modern GW does huh
>>
>>98207893
Brits had a commissariat too. Many militaries st the turn of the 19th-20th century had them.
>>
>>98207907
But even the Brits abandoned human wave tactics after WWI. The Ruskies loved them in WW2. Still do.

>>98207914
I mean, in North Africa you still have battles that are basically just groups of infantry running across wide open spaces while supported by tanks. Maybe not "we advance as though the mine field isn't there" type human waves, but still pretty guard-coded.
>>
>>98206702
I don't believe in this one. I have a hard time seeing a random WASP mother spending $60 on 5 toy soldiers for her teenage son.
>>
>>98207914
A lot of that was propaganda. They did highly risky and death-heavy operations but it wasn't mindless. Lots of it came from their defeated enemies who didn't understand them nor had an excuse for why they were losing.
>>
>>98207750
You don't get to decide that lil brobro
