Whats the consensus on Sword World?

Looking to play a jrpg/anime style TTRPG when my current pathfinder 1e campaign wraps in a few weeks.

Is it translated yet?

I've seen a lot of people talk it up as the best JTTRPG ever made, but nothing I've seen about it actually makes me think it's genuinely that good. Always sounds more like the kind of thing people would say to pretend to be cultured grognards than any sort of first-hand experience with the actual system.

I never heard that it's the best Japanese TTRPG ever, just that it was the first and most influential
It has an interesting history

Not officially, the crowdfunder got delayed but the fan translations seem to have almost everything

I've read through the 1e ruleset and those seemed really cool honestly. A solid ruleset. It uses some tables for damage and defense but their use makes sense and add some nice scalability to stuff. The only thing I was missing was actually good rules for movement.

2e seems like it lost 1e:s charm though. And the movement rules sucked.

Do you mind explaining what the tables do? I understood how to use them, but I don't get the mathematical advantage for the player, or how does it make scalability relevantly different.
What did 2e lose in your opinion? I do think the overall Lodoss TTRPG expectations I had were different from what I got from the 2e books.

It's dnd with other numbers. Setting isn't that bad, might be of interest for thise purposes.
Cute characters pics tough.

what specifically are you looking to emulate when it comes to jrpg/anime style?

Nah, that's people praising Gary Gygax.

For instance, the first Japanese made TTRPG
Set the standards like Japan preferring d6 systems
D&D in Japan was already smart enough to publish their books as normal sized paperbacks, but I think they decided to go with big hardcovers later on. Sword World continued being small and compact and a lot of Japanese RPG's are still published that way
And of course being made to house Lodoss War, the first replay. People forget that Lodoss was played with multiple systems, not just D&D. So Sword World ended up with influences from Tunnels & Trolls and Runequest, both were relatively popular in Japan and competed with D&D. The latter sets the stage for Japan really liking Call of Cthulhu I suppose
