So, what's the consensus on solo TTRPGs? Are they cringe or comfy? What are your experiences playing solo RPGs? What kind of things do you like in solo games? what kind of problems have you had in solo games? You're not allowed to use "can't find a game" or "no one else want's to play game" as an excuse. It's all you
>>98212909Consensus doesn't matter in a hobby centered around an individual's desires.Solo games are the only way I can play a game I want to play; I don't want to sit around listening to a DM read a script, or listening to theater retards making voices at each other, while only getting one or two moments of unengaging gameplay that ends in a few minutes anyway when one of the casters blows everything up.This hobby has the advantage of being easy to create and modify with little to no material components; one can easily tailor-make the kind of game they want to their own needs, and that's exactly what I do.I like to play games featuring combat with lots of options and lots of variety to enemy armors/abilities, it engages me when I have to think about which of my characters' weapons/powers will either have the best effect against an enemy, or open up the best opportunity for another character's attacks, so I make my games to facilitate that desire.I like to have crafting systems in my games as one way characters can improve their loadout, so I include them to facilitate that desire.I don't like town bullshit, or talking to nobles, or talking to the knaves, or haggling with shopkeepers, or "roll to see if you find clues for the macguffin", or any shit like that, so I don't put any of it in my games. If I could get the kind of game I want playing with other people, I definitely would, but as it stands, nobody else wants a game with very little worldbuilding that's focused mostly on combat, and everybody just wants to tell collaborative stories while making retard voices at each other.

Who cares?Do things for the love of the game rather than what retards on the internet think about them.
>>98212909dont want to hang out with the sorts of people who tend to play TTRPGs anymore, simple as
>>98212909Warning i sound like a shillIf you're a forever GM, can't get a group together, or heck are just learning new systems you wanna try later with real peopleSolo isnt just important it's mandatory to engaging with the hobbyIt serves various important aspects to the hobby including a "try before you buy" concept thats important. Nobody wants spend 35 bucks or worse hours prepping a session only for it to go terrible cuz you have no experinceOutside the usual suspect games the game i HIGHLY reccomens going at solo is EZD6 and any of it's expanisons Its an open source, statless, rules lite that has 2.5 content expansions and a bunch of creator made stuff but the main draw to me is wasted world (which i use in combination with the core fantasy setting)The game is great for solo play cuz heroes can be made in like 2 minutes and in abundance so you can play the game incredibly lethally if you'd like
Imagine playing this SOCIAL activity alone.lol. That's it, not even an lmao
>>98212909I played a solo journalling game and really enjoyed it. It's sort of the exact thing the "just write a book" crowd harp on about, but good. Writing the diary of a character where each day would get a couple of rolls to spin up the action was fun, and kept me invested too. I can't imagine going to the lengths of simulating a full game if a traditional RPG on my own. Too difficult.
I just recently got Down Crawl, and started a solo campaign to get a feel for it. Seems like an outstanding supplement for world building and narrative design. But it's definitely a supplement, and not very well designed to be run on it's own. Like the the entire Tack system, which is the primary resource for exploration, seems like it's intentionally designed to punish you, and kill you before you can get very far in any given campaign. For example, the only clearly defined way to get more Tack in a city or town, is that you gain +1 when you arrive in another area, and then you can choose to gamble to gain more. The gambling system in the book has a 80% chance of failure, and the best possible outcome is that you gain 2 tack by risking one. It's statistically designed to burn your resources if you engage with it at all. So the only way to keep your amount of Tack in the positive is to just get lucky on all your traveling encounters, or have a GM fudge the rewards to keep the campaign going(which kinda just feels like a scumbag move when playing solo), or additional home brewing to work around this. The other thing I don't like about using just this system by itself is that the only plants you can forage or harvest are different types of mushrooms. Just feels like very little variety in that aspect
