Here's the build I've put the most thought into for Luminary (for reference, I have 12 builds total)

Fueling my Outfit with Spirit - in combination with my Tech abilities - would give my armor an enhanced mechanical regeneration, above the slow base inherent to Regalia.
>Physicality (Specialty)
Alongside my doubly-armored Outfit and Spirit-regeneration, I am a nigh-unkillable fortress, being able to shrug off an entire mountain being dropped on my head, and my Powered Outfit amplification boosting my strength to levels where razing a city block is unreasonably effortless. Fueling my Outfit with Physicality would do the obvious, increasing durability and armor density, boosting raw strength, but also increasing enhancing the effects of my aura, including any inherited from other schools due to my Specialty.
>Tech (Adept)
Taken specifically to empower and better interface with my Powered Outfit, with the versatility of tinkering up new weapons and devices being a useful side-benefit, mostly used to add new capabilities to my Outfit. Fueling my Outfit with Tech would grant me greater fine control over my Powered Armor, as well as allow me to modify the inner mechanics and attachments of my Outfit on the fly through enhanced technopathy alone.

I don't like how they are traditionally implemented because the interesting thing about them, which is that you are taking a wild chance at getting something that you don't know what it is. Loses all of its replay value once you have played through the CYOA and seen the mystery box once. This is why I think Mystery Boxes should be a dice table that you roll on instead, pic very realted. That way the mystery box will still retain some of it's risk reward value.

You have said you believe long CYOAs to be the best. In making short CYOAs, you are choosing to do something that you yourself believe makes your CYOAs worse. Artists evolve, and their concept of perfection along with it. I once believed that the best CYOAs would be shorter than 10 pages. So I limited myself to 10 pages. But I have change my mind on that. There are too many great CYOAs that are beyond 10 pages and so I have expanded my ideal page count limit to a generous 15 pages, as I have not seen any good CYOA beyond that number of pages.

The magical girl CYOA named Luminary is clearly the best CYOA named Luminary, and it is 8 pages.

Husanon's Luminary is 20 pages, and I did not like it. Too much bloated unnecessary filler, which is the real problem with long CYOAs. I also strongly disliked the mechanics of the CYOA. The CYOA incentivised you to go as wide as possible and not specialize in anything since your potential allowed you to level up everything eventually. I prefer crystalized power, power that does not change and you get what you get, no to very little improvment that can be made after you get your powers. You can use them in clever and creative ways, but you can't level them up and make your power stronger. Unless it's integrated in the CYOAs mechanics, like I love the potential system of the Wizard CYOA.

Too long, and too much bloat. I also heavily dislike events and quests in CYOAs. I much prefer a openended character creator that introduces me to the world and let me make up my own adventures. Forced predetermined events is a huge turn off for me. I also dislike goals as a section, in this case goals had some mechanical value in the form of granting tokens so it is done in a good way, but generally I hate such sections as they are completely pointless and sometimes you limit the goal of the player to a fixed number of goals that does not include the goal the player had in mind.

All the quests are about magical fighter jobs, and most of the schools of magic are useless for the day job, the companion sections never references the day job, etc. Also, if you're supposed to carry your Soul Gem with you even on your day job, can't the corpos unmask you with a simple body search? And everybody without the Shrouded Magic quirk gets methodically found out on their day job? So I don't think the masquerade aspect works out well either.

There's a lot of overlap between the usecases of the magic schools, and the stages of a single school are too continuous. IMO Beri's magical girl cyoa did that part really well - the different elemental schools (and the substages within them) felt functionally distinct, so even the decision of "will I get 1 more level of this school, or 1 more level of that school" would alter the build's nature significantly.

I don't like how the factions go strictly from stronger to weaker. I haven't read the other builds, but isn't there's too much to push for the player to join the Old Guard as the one team where everyone's knowledgeable and competent and well-organized? What do you think about this idea for a CYOA.
Basically pokemon but instead of collecting monsters you are collecting waifus to fight similarly to league of legends.
You are a Planeswalker kind of guy and you travel to other realities making pacts with waifus to help them with some goal or to grant them a wish and in exchange they become your followers that you can summon to fight for you against others like you in a multiversal scale conflict.
It might or might not use IP characters depending on how people feel about it.

It's pretty interesting when a lot of an author's work shares a theme, like the solipsistic paranoia in this one, Anglerfish, and Something's Wrong.
