I'm looking for a scifi system that can do a solar system scale game and covers both the hard and soft ends of the spectrum. I want to run something set in a near future relatively hard scifi scenario. But I also want to have room for some elements of out there things like psionics and other soft scifi stuff. I don't mind a lot of crunch but I would prefer something other than GURPS
>>98227138SWN it has some good shit for management/factions to steal for other systems if it isn't good enough (it's pretty rules light and boring in my opinion)
Traveler!
>>98227138SWN (potentially mixed with CWN)MothershipTraveller (of course)Jovian Chronicles
>>98227138>but I would prefer something other than GURPS>What is 2 plus 2? But I would prefer something other than 4.Near-future hard sci-fi: GURPS Transhuman Space seriesFar-future hard sci-fi: GURPS Ultra-Tech (warning: needs some tuning from the GM, IIRC due to unbalanced weapons vs. armor)Soft sci-fi: GURPS Tales of the Solar Patrol, GURPS Powers, GURPS PsionicsSee also: How to Be a GURPS GM
>>98227175>>98227193How does Jovian chronicles play? I haven't heard of that one before.Also, doesn't traveller have a ton of editions? Are there any that stand out?
Adding to those mentioning SWN, and since OP mentions psionics, I think AWN have the better psionics implementation of the two, and they are easy to mix between them.Also, what do you specifically really mean by " a scifi system that can do a solar system scale" ? Factions? life-long character advancement? Huge ass space battles? Sector mapping? Random tables for every itty little thing? Huge ass lore?Is like asking for a fantasy ttrpg that's able to do "continent" or "kingdom" scale, better say the right term for what do you want: domain management, hexcrawling exploration, etc...

>>98227408I would have mentioned it, but I feel like it's tied to a lot of very specific setting assumptions that OP may or may not jive with.>>98227268Tbh, even if it's not his base system, he should still look at SWN for its faction system and GM tools.
>>98227138You don't need a system for a generic hard/soft scifi. You need a system that does YOUR soft/hard scifi thing.Considering you've only said you want psionics, it's basically impossible to give you advice.
>>98227138Many good suggestions here, I would just like to add my favorites...Alternity 1eMutant Chronicles
>>98227138Not that I think it's especially groundbreaking, but just because it hasn't popped up in the thread and all the other things I'd recommend were already wheeled out, there's a conversion of Blades in the Dark called Scum and Villainy. It's alright. Mostly trying to replicate the feeling of the bounty-hunting, smuggling, soldiers-of-fortune side of Star Wars. But there are weird psychic space ninjas in it a bit, too.
>>98227268I want one single fleshed out solar system instead of the standard affair of ftl travel and several planets.Though thinking about it more, I suppose it is kind of semantics
>>98227600Ideally, what I want for the soft scifi elements is something like things in s.t.a.l.k.e.r, like weird anomalies and artifacts and powers in an otherwise mostly grounded world
>>98227138I'm building something, give me another year or two to publish.
>>98227138Cyberpunk 2020 with the Deep Space Supplement for the hard sci-fi and that one with the vampires for soft. But, you know, techy vampires.
>>98233335orzI've been so long without posting I forgot how to format{
>>98227138 (OP) #>>98229444 #Did you have an specific setting in mind already?If you don't mind the blatant plagiarism I would suggest taking a quick look to warframe's lore and universe for a single solar system setting:Humanity reached borderline singularity tech level (still had societal problems) and then everything got blasted to pieces>The first wave of destruction came from the first fully sapient beings made by humanity turning against them and hacking their tech each time they fought them>Second wave was the biologic experiments they made to counter the first ones also turning against them (they use "primitive" guns and the like to avoid getting hacked by the first ones)>the solar system is a mix of forgotten terraforming projects, scattered pockets of population, and warring factions of corporate sci-fi mercenaries vs. Cloned borderline mindless soldiers with chem-based weapons>The remains of the first wave (sentients) and second wave(warframes) are still out there, anything related to them or the forgotten technology can become a massive problem, and works as their version of legends and folklore
>>98227138>I want a system that does everythingDo I even need to say it?
