Yeah dude, definitely, there would definitely 100% be ANY FACTION in 40k celebrating some fucking nigger trannies throwing bricks at cops after having their pedophile child prostitution ring shut down! That's definitely a thing that would happen in a far future setting about tusked green alien fungus monsters fighting space catholic warrior-monks with chainsaw swords.

They seem designed to reactivate to mimic enamel wash weather effects I think.

The alternative is a scale model acrylic sludge wash but I like to leave varnish to being the last step.

>>
>>98231410
You're too new to remember this, but no, back in the day, they did not. Originally the codex lore was written by the creators of the setting who also did the rules, novelists were brought in to start writing 40k stories and that became the Black Library, and there was rarely any overlap between the two. Occasionally someone who was a codex writer/game designer first would then write a short story or a book for BL, and those are rare occasions where the BL books are actually generally good. But a lot of BL stuff was done by new guys who didn't fully grasp the 40k setting and added a bunch of their fanfic ideas, and by the time the Horus Heresy series was being written that was never more true, it is utter schlock that completely departs from the original vision of the setting.

if you watched the interview gav explains exactly why. page limit. they are given a strict page limit by the producers who are negotiating with the printers. there are only so many pages for stories so they pick only the most essential and self contained short stories and lore for the codexes
>>
>>98231442
Novels aren't lore. Lore is exposition worldbuilding.

Less stories, more facts. If you write a novel that contradicts the facts given in the codex, whose fault is that? You can't say something happened one way in a codex and then write a novel where the events go totally differently and pretend they're both equally valid. If you're the one in charge of filling both pages, then try to make sure the two reflect each other, or at least don't contradict each other. Otherwise people will have to choose and your novels are going to lose.

> If you write a novel that contradicts the facts given in the codex

gav talked about this too. in part, the stories, lore and novels had all become too much for anyone to actually keep straight all the time, s contradictions sprang up naturally, but also went on to say that he liked the existence of the contradictions because it made the setting feel more realistic in the sense that in real life historical records and journals often contradict each other or misrepresent events and attitudes. im paraphrasing a bit here but that was the gist of it

>>
>>98231513
And, like in real life, some source are seen as more credible than others. So, sorry, Gav, but your novels lose to your codexes. Deal with it.

>>
>>98231513
>real life historical records and journals often contradict each other or misrepresent events and attitudes
But most codices are written in a omniscient, third person voice. There are little blurbs and stories that are from in-universe perspective but, for the most part, the information is just presented as fact and not some unreliable historical document. I guess the Eldar codex Gav wrote (3rd ed?) would be the exception, because a lot of the lore in it is written from the perspective of humans trying to understand Eldar.
>>

Stop making new edition and settle the rules. When that's done you can sell rule books.

Ideally you let people have the rules for free, but you can sell special books (artbook, fluffbook, etc.) for the purpose of people having a nice physical version. This also makes your job easier since you can make higher quality and fewer numbers (logistics good).

Unfortunately GW wants money money money and people are giving it to them, so they'll keep shitting out pointless books every ~3 years.

>>
>>98231549
Funny how this only became a problem with tourneyfags in charge. Back when I played 3rd and 4th no one ever complained their codex was no longer worth having because GW didn't fucking rewrite our special rules and points midway through the edition, also the art and lore in those older books was 10x better than the shit they try to sell us today.

All they need to do is get the points right the first time which is seriously not as hard as people pretend it is, GW just intentionally undercosts shit to sell more models to WAACfags before rugpulling them with changes later, or they let retards like Robin "math is subjective" Cruddace write codexes.

You haven't read a "codex" in decades, lmao.
For starters, many guys who wrote codex fluff became BL authors. If don't know it you're a fake grog and a poser.
And nowadays, both in WD and codexes, you can tell whoever is writing it, would like to be doing the same for BL.
They're worse slop than the worst BL story.

Eldar jobbing? remember Psychic Awakening?
Primaris and primarch wanking? Gathering Storm + 8th ed, and the return of Magnus before
Stupid names and flanderization? Current Death Guard and their toilet humor in their codex
Pointless bolter porn? literally any publised by GW in 10th
Fake progressive shit? Femstodes in the 10th codex before anywhere else
And so on.
For every BL misstep, there are also another where they unironically fixed or improved codexes. Until codexes fucked up again (like the Dark Angels + the Lion return arc)

In reality, each GW division (main studio, specialist games, BL) seems to do what they want with little coordination out of incompetence, or the personal ambition of their members ("i will be the one leaving a mark!")
That's why Necromunda hasn't been exterminatused or the Abnettverse is a thing. Or the weak, reatarded fluff in all those forgettable campaigns since 8th that nobody remembers (Vigilus? lol)

Had my first game of 11th today which is my first game of 40k in about 3 years. I was expecting for fight my buddy's EC but because of a couple issues he only had his knights and my list really had no chance against that. I got tabled by turn 3 so I've had a pretty sour first impression but even then there were a few changes that I saw as palpable improvements.

You do it to make the models not turn into an indistinct mess on the table. The AI seems to recognize this, somewhat, given that it's gone for the absurdly overdone red accents but it wouldn't need something that jarring if the two greens comprising the bulk of the model were playing off each other better instead of blending together.

You roll your charge and then declare your target, so if you roll low you might still get into melee and if you roll high you can go somewhere you might have not thought of. It's a great help for getting stuck in, especially if you can advance and charger AND get a movement buff like on howling banshees.

Around the beginning of the year I decided to start a deldar army. I bought everything, built it and come April I had ~230 Deldar models ready to paint. I’m almost finished all of the standard infantry models (Helions not pictured) and I’m fucking sick of them. I have deldar fatigue. I don’t want to paint them anymore. I don’t even want to look at them. I haven’t even played them besides one 1000 point against a friend and I don’t even want to think about my next game using them. also, as a printer myself, a word of advice. dont print bases flat horizontal, tip them up at a 45-60 degree angle and support them. horizontal or vertical base prints are prone to all kinds of failures, tilted angles give you the smoothest results

Beginner question: when you guys build your units, how do you go about equipping your dudes in terms of weapons? do you think in advance what you'll use in a match, or go with what looks cool and tell your opponent if your model is equipped with something different than built?

WYSIWYG only applies to tournament play. If I change the equipment on my characters to tailor I have it on my printed out army roster which I give my opponent to read before we start the game.
>>
>>98232334
Because Im not an autistic retard who needs to win at 40k to feel good about myself and think its more fair to have open and transparent information between players. I even give them reminders as well as take backs. Ive let my opponent redeploy his entire army and undo entire movement and shooting phases. Because its more rewarding to win fairly and not because your opponent forgot something. If you dont think this way, try it my way, you'll make way more friends this way. >>
>>98232329
I just say "are you sure you want to do that" before someone does something that will allow me to react, I'm not being a special ed teacher but I'm allowing my opponent the opportunity to think and ask if I have anything I can do in relation to their action.
I'm not going to be a sped that tells people how to play their army, but I'll definitely give them indicators on whether they should consider what they're doing more closely so they can actually learn from the experience and create a neruron connection, because telling people how to play their army is just going to create the same players that still. omplain when they lose.
>>
>>98232334
Unless you're playing in a tournament, there is no reason to think like this. Good sportsmanship and curtesy should be the norm for friendly games. The term "WAAC" gets thrown around a lot but purposefully staying quiet while your opponent in a casual game makes an honest mistake or is clearly unaware of a special rule, just because you want to win, seems like genuine WAAC behavior.
>>
>>98232380
Shaming tactics like that only work on women. I have been playing 40k since 4th edition and Ive played against tournament players and casual players. It is your own fault if you don't learn the rules, it has nothing to do with ego.

Friendly game doesn't mean giving your opponent every opportunity to win. That is just cope because you feel guilty at being better at something than someone else.

How is this even a thing, codexes come out once an edition, as soon as you play against some trick ONE TIME it will never surprise you again, who cares if you lose one game in an edition after a new codex comes out because you didnt know your opponent could do some new thing? Plus if you lose the entire battle over one little trick like that you probably weren't going to win anyway, this just sounds like cope from sore losers. Just suck up the loss and then play more games. You guys are hilarious acting like 40k is even some particularly tactical or tricky game to begin with, there are very few stratagems or whatever that are actually that impactful.
>>
>>98232405
I'm part of a private club with 11 members. There are only 2 people in the club who ever get gotcha'd and its because they are big time stoners who can't remember shit while playing. That is their own fault for smoking a gram of weed before the game.
>>

That's just a gotcha with extra steps and it makes you worse at the game and prevents friendships. I ask my opponent if they'll remind me about gotchas and if they dont, then I ask them 10000 questions every phase so thry have to answer until they agree

I would never play against some smelly pothead who gets themselves retarded on purpose by smoking goynip before the game, jesus fucking christ that sounds miserable. if the gotcha isn't winning you the game and losing a game doesn't matter then why not just let them take back the play?
its not even that impactful so why care?
>>
>>98232481
I smoked it plenty of times in high school and at conventions, it's just not that enticing now as a grown-ass man. And most of the people who smoke it regularly seemingly don't even have two working brain cells to run together even BEFORE getting stoned so maybe it's just a self-selection issue. Or maybe you aren't as competent while high as you believe you are. Point is I really dont like playing against people who give glassy eyed empty stares when you try to get them to pay attention to the game and I already run into that problem with sober morons.
>>
Is rolling 1+1 on a charge roll a critical failure or would I still succeed the charge with one of those +1 to charge roll skills?

To someone who's played literally any other game on earth, this condemnation of "waacfags" in this hobby is surreal. In most places if you whine about someone using the rules cleverly to win, you're the one mocked, called noob, scrub, casual, and told it's a skill issue and you need to git gud. This weird attitude of 40k players to coddle brainlets makes the whole hobby seem full of retards.

I just saw this thing on youtube about how to position your unit cleverly around a wall so not all the enemy models can engage.

that makes sense when marines were more goonish. now that they’re mega super soldiers who can kill ten men with their bare hands, its just overkill. though if you do like the idea of them using it for the overkill + love of the game, there’s still marines who use them.
>>
>>98232713
I think it kills more people than any drug period
Maybe nicotine stuff kills more people? Idk
>>
>>98232708
So "if we just ban alcohol, then nobody would ever drive drunk". Seems logical and totally would work, like with everything else we've made illegal.
>>
>>98232718
No way, nicotine itself isn't deadly at all just addictive. If anything it leads to sleep disorders, unhealthy eating patterns etc but its all the added shit in cigarettes that kills. If you were to take your nicotine purely via something like gum its literally just an addictive stimulant like coffee, with a shorter half life.

Alcohol deaths account for almost 5% of ALL deaths globally.

https://www.who.int/news/item/25-06-2024-over-3-million-annual-deaths-due-to-alcohol-and-drug-use-majority-among-men

Alcohol is genuinely an insane plague upon the planet, but men like it because it makes them feel cool and brave to consume it.
>>
>>98232719
This. In the US we have people getting into accidents on coke, weed, meth and more and the US has some of the most draconian prohibition laws in the country.
>>
damn, I didn’t realize /40kg/ was full of so many teetotalers.
>>
>>98232719
Banning alcohol would directly result in far fewer drunk drivers. They'd exist, but there'd be way less, and as a result way fewer good innocent people getting splatted by those assholes. When a drunk driver gets in an accident, it's not usually the drunk driver that dies, it's the other party.

Now do we actually care about saving innocent lives? I dunno, we're constantly bombing the middle east to save 50 cents on gas. It's like that "would you press a button for 1000 dollars if 1000 random people die" meme. Morals aren't a real thing anyway so figure it out yourself I guess.
>>
>>98232726
Alcohol is not a plague. It's actually good for you in moderation. Even the Bible recommends drinking some red wine now and then.

Alcoholics are a plague. Gluttons who consume too much, who don't know how to function sober. That's the problem. The problem is certain people. The problem is ALWAYS certain people. Just like guns aren't actually a problem and in the hands of responsible (mostly White) owners there are almost zero gun deaths ever, but inner city niggers commit tons of murder and inflate the shit out of the stats.
>>

Anyone still getting shitfaced past the age of 25, is probably a fucking bum and a burden on the people around them. Drinking is one thing, getting DRUNK is another.
>>
>>98232732
I'm not a teetotaler, but I do think culturally the normalization of alcohol as something safe in the household and also as a trial that must be passed to enter adulthood harm and kill millions of people. I think this because its objectively true. I am not advocating for or against any type of legislation in regards to it. People want to kill themselves, I say let them.
>>
>>98232740

Is it burger hours again?
>>
>>98232743
Cigarettes are not just nicotine, this is just objective fact.

They contain specifically crystalline silica (basically finely ground quartz that stays in the lungs and is hard to remove because its basically ground rock glass) and even scarier multiple compounds of formaldehyde. Both are considered highly carcinogenic, far more than nicotine.

Nicotine in its pure form is rather famously not carcinogenic at all and has been rigorously studied. I'm sure you could find this out with a quick google search if you stopped being smug and just looked it up yourself. You can in fact just learn things whenever you want.

Forgefather's Seekers+Librarius Conclave
Purge

Vulcan leading 10 Infernus in a Repulsor
Librarian leading 10 Infernus in a Repulsor
Librarian leading 10 Infernus on foot
Adrax leading 6 Bladeguard in an Impulsor
6 Eradicators in an Impulsor
5 Intercessors
5 Intercessors
5 Heavy Intercessors
5 Heavy Intercessors

I'm excited about this. Vulcan makes Torrent reroll to wound, the detachment makes Torrent +1 strength, and the Librarius detachment makes them +1AP. So your infernus marines are shooting S6 AP2 torrent weapons that reroll to wound. Pretty funny. Imagine the Overwatch stratagem here too. Makes my SoB jealous, literally just better SoB lol. It gets even crazier if you find some points to buy Enhancements for the Librarians, since Fullisade also gives the Infernus Anti-Monster 5+, Anti-vehicle 5+, AND Sustained Hits 1. I think Forgefather+Librarius go together like bread and butter.
Plenty of home base objective defenders, and a really strong bid for the central objective with all the salamander character rules.
This feels pretty good. It's a shame the third Infernus unit doesn't have their own vehicle, but just ran out of points.
And the conversation yesterday made me realize Heavy Intercessors are just crazy so took a couple of those.

My problem is I may have gotten softer over the years and I’m almost 30. I’m not much of a trash talker as I used to be as a younger lad.
I’m not sure why.

I don’t mind the clever rules of 40k. My problem is that it should still look “cinematic” as much as each turn shows a battleground where infantry and tanks are “realistically” positioned not hugging a wall in a big penguin flock huddle of infantry and tanks all crowded together.

The lack of motivation to “hide” the symmetrical terrain through painting them isn’t helping either.

feels pretty antithetical to the 3D proonting mindset. Pillage from all over the place, get whats good. STL files are a pittance against both real terrain kits AND the initial investment price of a printer and its associated materials / maintenance. If you can afford the printer, ventilation systems, resin, extra tools, room for it, and rinsing station then you can afford 50 bucks for a couple of different terrain kits and pick and choose what you like.

Or just pirate.

I understand the hypocrisy of limiting oneself with a printer but the reason is because different modular terrain makers use different means of keeping terrain modular.

I think it is they just dont really call it slavery because its normalized as an institution of the state. People dont normally call for profit prisons in the US slavery either even though it pretty much meets all the defintions.

Also a lot of imperial labor follows the serf model, I.E. peasents beaten into submission by the military to work and usually people distinguish between slavery and serfdom. If you are forced to sit in a room for 22 hours a day six days a week (or the equivelent schedule in your sci fi setting) copying books and if you slack off you get electro shocked and you are only there because your dad had the same job and you inherited it from him thats serfdom not slavery.
>>
>>98232818
The full context is that you should slavishly obey your masters and proudly let them abuse you because being a victim brings you closer to god. Christianity fetishizes being weak and trodden upon, it's literal slave morality.
>>
>>98232850
both the conquistadors and missionaries where christian, both claimed to act in gods name and both claimed the high ground from a moral standpoint. basically to assign any religious group as moral or immoral is pointless because the vast majority of people follow their own ideas on the matter first and the holy book second or third or not at all (like american evangelicals, mormons etc). The popes started major world wars at the height of their power, and advocated for looting, genocide, martial conquest, slavery etc. Modern ones tend to be more based, but if I was cynical I would say that is a product of their waning relavence that only true believers remain in the establishment as the church isnt an avenue for political power anymore.

>Numbers 31:18 (NIV) Following the war against the Midianites, Moses gives instructions regarding the captives. This verse specifies that the soldiers are to spare and keep alive for themselves the young girls who have never known a man intimately.
Bible endorses treating women as property, and rape. Unless you can think of another reason soldiers would "keep the virgin girls for themselves"

Ntaryt, I just think the idea is really boring personally. I don't think there's anything really interesting you can get out of the intersection of a female character and a space marine character.

The Bolter Bitches just have a lot more interesting stuff going on with intersection of faith, femininity, and martial values than what I think you could do in the creative straitjacket of Space Marine + Woman. It's the same problem but to an even greater extent than Guardslop female characters.

Yeah, so many of them are spiritual ftms like Honor Harringon that exist for competence porn or the milsf pickmeisha that's like Vasquez but boring. I'm not saying it needs to be deep characterization or that background character need any.

However, the Guard has a lot more room for characterization of a female character than a SM, and the BL authors don't usually do anything interesting with that. The interesting women are Inquisitors and such.

The Mechanicus used to be doing shit like making a new spaceship engine that's 1.5% more efficient and declaring the guy who came up with it a saint, or taking a gun that already existed and figuring out how to produce it. Small things that don't move the needle much, or if they do, it's still only a short leap from where we were before. Anyways, Cawl will show up to a planet and casually reveal that he can undo the Tyranid's harvesting.
I like Cawl, he's the highlight of every book he's in, he's the character with my favorite writing in the faction with my favorite writing, but man is he an asspull.

>>98233105
If you read the Sisters of Battle novels, it's clear that in fluff they're already FSM in every way that matters (except for being the posterboy faction). Mark of Faith is one of their better novels and the main sister barely does anything, the Inquisitor character opposite her is the one the plot revolves around and who has a character besides "Emprah".

What if gw gave the other factions the same number of options, detachment options, frequency of rules updates, and models as space marines?

When I look through their codex, I'm baffled at the sheer number of options, detachments, sub-factions (who also have their own characters and detachments), and also by the fact that most of them are good. It's not like they fill it with crap, most options are good are at least situational.

I dream of a world where gw doesn't have an obvious, drastic, and consistent favorite child.

>>98233835
There was a guy here who bought I think a chaos predator off ebay once and whoever he bought it from used so much hot glue to put it together that the anon had to just incorporate it into the model and paint it up like flesh/corruption. IIRC whatever hot glue the seller used was just too strong/bonded to remove without hacking up the tank in the process.
>>
>>98233846
For me it's not cleaning the models after removing them from the sprue.
I can somewhat understand not cleaning mould lines because people are blind as shit/dont care that much but when every model looks like a chaos champion with the amounts of plastic sticking out I start having questions.

>new edition around the corner
>see this at LGS
>still full price
>most people wouldn’t even take them if the were free
>they’ll probably get thrown out or shredded into that pulp they use to make egg cartons

I feel bad for LGS that need to take up so much shelf space stocking this crap. Paper codexes are such a waste. Honestly a subscription based app would be preferable to these glorified paper weights. Or just little sealed cards with the redeemable code inside
>>

>when every model looks like a chaos champion with the amounts of plastic sticking out
No see this works with the new free pivot rules. Since your model can rotate as much as it wants for no extra movement, you can spin it like a beyblade as it crosses the field, and so having spikes and jagged edges is a tactical advantage.
>>
>>98233893
>Paper codexes are such a waste
More so because they get errata'd within half a year of buying one so the rules inside aren't even accurate anymore.

I don't see how this is acceptable to anyone. The only balance changes that should occur once a codex is printed is changing point values. Besides points, every rule and every word that's in the codex you bought should stay how it is for its whole lifespan.
>>
>>98233306
You definitely want a magnetized carrying case for transporting a DEldar army because they have lots of little spikes and blades and chains that hook onto each other and everything else and snap easily. When you assemble your boats it's also a good idea not to glue the sails on so you can lay them down during transport and reduce height. Possibly the spikes and flags too.

Don't care for this new artwork, they look like action figures.

Always good to see Marines Malevolent, though.

How long do you think until GW bites the bullet and just releases a non-primaris Tactical Squad? Pretty obvious that they're rolling back all the new design choices bit by bit.
>>
>>98234013
They're just backtracking on aesthetic, they're not undoing Primaris as a concept itself

If you're not counting the Horus Heresy then this is the closest you'll get. Primaris is here to stay.

If the Scouring rumors are true we'll get mk7 marines soon enough.
For 40k the best you'll see is the same primaris base/proportions but the armor parts fashioned like old marines.
>Removed fake pecs

It's a knee guard. I believe GW called them like that themselves in one of the Primaris design articles.

I think that GW designers actively resent 40k characters created or made popular in other media.
Look at the dogshit Titus models, or how Honsou, the most important Iron Warrior leader just below Perturabo has been forgotten in the IW release.

They're all samey despite being different, it's weird.

To be fair if you made another space fantasy with space orks, space elves and warriors in power armor you'd be seen as a 40k rip-off.

I love 40k, even if nu40k sucks donkey dick, but it's still leagues more interesting than the "competition".
>>
>>98234140
All artists have egos and if given a choice they will want to leave their own mark on an IP/setting even if they come up with dogshit like the taurox transport, firestrike turret, tau sunshark bomber (I bring up those things because they all had forge world models that easily could have been ported over but the """""artists""""" had to grace us with their creativity instead.)

It's more of a star wars game that's war game flavored than a wargame that's star wars flavored.

Star wars is unique enough that you either like it or you don't, so a star wars wargame needs to appeal to star wars fans who are also interested in wargaming.

Both, really. It's release day here and while there weren't any lines, nearly every single person who entered the LGS had preordered a copy. Some bought two. Now if Alphaspel could hire non-sperg staff to run the till, it would be even smoother...
