>>98231410Then why not put it into the fucking codex then?
>>98231410You're too new to remember this, but no, back in the day, they did not. Originally the codex lore was written by the creators of the setting who also did the rules, novelists were brought in to start writing 40k stories and that became the Black Library, and there was rarely any overlap between the two. Occasionally someone who was a codex writer/game designer first would then write a short story or a book for BL, and those are rare occasions where the BL books are actually generally good. But a lot of BL stuff was done by new guys who didn't fully grasp the 40k setting and added a bunch of their fanfic ideas, and by the time the Horus Heresy series was being written that was never more true, it is utter schlock that completely departs from the original vision of the setting.
>>98231398https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0xfciIXD-sg
>>98231431Codexes have pretty limited space.
>>98231421>I'm not the one saying Abaddon being a possible Horus clone was nu-slop.No one said this dumbass, you are conflating two different things. The original point was about gene-seed making the marines look more like their primarchs.
>>98231277>TQThe Imperium elites don't want you to know this but the slaves on the hive worlds are free. You can take them home.I have 458 slaves.
>>98231410Because GW scrutinizes what's written in one far more than the other. The general approach to BL novels is that they are the author's interpretation of the setting.
>>98231431Because you can't put several novels worth of lore into a single codex?
>>98231277>so you're saying this man was killed by an officer during an arrest?>well others think he may have just overdosed but yeah that's the gist.>Alright I follow so far. >>98231431if you watched the interview gav explains exactly why. page limit. they are given a strict page limit by the producers who are negotiating with the printers. there are only so many pages for stories so they pick only the most essential and self contained short stories and lore for the codexes
>>98231442Novels aren't lore. Lore is exposition worldbuilding.>and then johnny space marine turned the corner and there was a bad guy and he fired his boltgun and the bad guy blew up, and then he ran forward and stabbed some more bad guys with his knife, and then reloaded his boltgun...Zero of that is lore.

>>98231456But then if Johnny, meets with the Emperor and they discuss their secret plan to create a race of psychic blank slug men and hint at future events, it becomes lore.

>>98231435>>98231442>>98231449Less stories, more facts. If you write a novel that contradicts the facts given in the codex, whose fault is that? You can't say something happened one way in a codex and then write a novel where the events go totally differently and pretend they're both equally valid. If you're the one in charge of filling both pages, then try to make sure the two reflect each other, or at least don't contradict each other. Otherwise people will have to choose and your novels are going to lose.
Fun stuff.

>>98231490> If you write a novel that contradicts the facts given in the codexgav talked about this too. in part, the stories, lore and novels had all become too much for anyone to actually keep straight all the time, s contradictions sprang up naturally, but also went on to say that he liked the existence of the contradictions because it made the setting feel more realistic in the sense that in real life historical records and journals often contradict each other or misrepresent events and attitudes. im paraphrasing a bit here but that was the gist of it

>>98231493It confused the hell out of me when I first saw it because no black culture in the world has ever been big into swords. Swords take a lot of metal and sub-Saharan Africa didn't have that.>>98231502It is quite literally because the dumb niggers don't know what day the thing they're celebrating happened on, just that it was mid-June.
>>98231513And, like in real life, some source are seen as more credible than others. So, sorry, Gav, but your novels lose to your codexes. Deal with it.
Whats the deal with the warp ghosts? and why is their color scheme so cool?
How should GW make codexes worth buying but allow them to adjust balance levers post printing?
>>98231540They're maybe time travelling ghosts and good at navigating.
>>98231513>real life historical records and journals often contradict each other or misrepresent events and attitudesBut most codices are written in a omniscient, third person voice. There are little blurbs and stories that are from in-universe perspective but, for the most part, the information is just presented as fact and not some unreliable historical document. I guess the Eldar codex Gav wrote (3rd ed?) would be the exception, because a lot of the lore in it is written from the perspective of humans trying to understand Eldar.
>>98231549Just make it an art and lore book with painting guides and hobby advice. Put a QR code in it that links to the digital rules, which can be updated.
>>98231549make the codex exclusively about fluff, artworks, and model displays.
>>98231540>warp ghost>Green-grey with black trim and gold details.Isn't that also the scheme of the Astartes animated shorts guy?
>>98231549Stop making new edition and settle the rules. When that's done you can sell rule books.Ideally you let people have the rules for free, but you can sell special books (artbook, fluffbook, etc.) for the purpose of people having a nice physical version. This also makes your job easier since you can make higher quality and fewer numbers (logistics good).Unfortunately GW wants money money money and people are giving it to them, so they'll keep shitting out pointless books every ~3 years.

>>98231549Funny how this only became a problem with tourneyfags in charge. Back when I played 3rd and 4th no one ever complained their codex was no longer worth having because GW didn't fucking rewrite our special rules and points midway through the edition, also the art and lore in those older books was 10x better than the shit they try to sell us today. All they need to do is get the points right the first time which is seriously not as hard as people pretend it is, GW just intentionally undercosts shit to sell more models to WAACfags before rugpulling them with changes later, or they let retards like Robin "math is subjective" Cruddace write codexes.

You are full of shit.
>>98232064>isn't it nice to do some customization at the least?why even hobby if you arent putting some of your own art and creativity into it? like, brother go assemble ikea furniture instead you can get paid doing it.
>>98232064>but isn't it kinda boring to just paint it exactly how it looks on the boxNo.
Around the beginning of the year I decided to start a deldar army. I bought everything, built it and come April I had ~230 Deldar models ready to paint. I’m almost finished all of the standard infantry models (Helions not pictured) and I’m fucking sick of them. I have deldar fatigue. I don’t want to paint them anymore. I don’t even want to look at them. I haven’t even played them besides one 1000 point against a friend and I don’t even want to think about my next game using them. I’m gonna paint until the end, but goddamn I’m tired of these assholes.

I want to 3d print some bases for my minis. I want to make the bases slightly taller and straight walled so that I have an easier time grabbing them. Is this legal/fine for tournament play?
>>98231833>you haven't read a codex (which for some reason we bracket in a attempt faggy snark) in decades>that is to say the last time you read a codex was at least twenty years ago>we can thus give your entering the hobby a terminus ante quem of 20 years>but uh, you're like also a fake oldfag or somethingI can see why someone of your obvious intellectual prowess would enjoy BL.

>>98232079I completely regret not taking them one box at a time. The idea was to get everything I need to build any army variety I’d like and then do everything in bulk to try to streamline it. Horrible idea. Not doing it again.
>>98232081also, as a printer myself, a word of advice. dont print bases flat horizontal, tip them up at a 45-60 degree angle and support them. horizontal or vertical base prints are prone to all kinds of failures, tilted angles give you the smoothest results
>>98231990Resin printers not worth it. FDM printers however are pretty cheap and easy as piss to use. Minis look fine if you use the right settings too. Fat dragon games has some good settings you can download for free.
>>98232064I actually think going with <your dudes> is kinda boring because it's literally anything goes. It's like an OC where it's everything and...nothing. >>98232215It's not mine, these are sent to me from other people who engage with judges as high as WTC and the upper "echelon" of 40k. However, I dont gotcha and make great effort not to.
>>98231996That entire post hurt me.But I’ll try anyways.
>>98232329How can you say gotcha is unfair when they had every opportunity to read your codex and know what your rules were?
Beginner question: when you guys build your units, how do you go about equipping your dudes in terms of weapons? do you think in advance what you'll use in a match, or go with what looks cool and tell your opponent if your model is equipped with something different than built?>pic related, it's me
>>98232334This.
>>98232341WYSIWYG only applies to tournament play. If I change the equipment on my characters to tailor I have it on my printed out army roster which I give my opponent to read before we start the game.
>>98232334Because Im not an autistic retard who needs to win at 40k to feel good about myself and think its more fair to have open and transparent information between players. I even give them reminders as well as take backs. Ive let my opponent redeploy his entire army and undo entire movement and shooting phases. Because its more rewarding to win fairly and not because your opponent forgot something. If you dont think this way, try it my way, you'll make way more friends this way. Because I know you dont have any if you play that way.
>>98232341my dudes have what they have and I stand by it
>>98232341Build what's cool. WYSIWYG isnt even enforced at the tournament level. Use markers or clearly communicate to your opp who has what
>>98232350I already play Orks, thats as much of an advantage my opponent should need. There is no excuse for not reading every new codex for free when its usually available for download 2 weeks before the official launch.
>>98232259>cannot be used in a room you eat or sleep in>needs lots of ventilationthats true of FDM printers too. the molten plastic extruder puts off all sorts of hazardous fumes. dont tell me you've been keeping it running near you?
>>98232361Okay anon, you can be a loser and get a cheap little ego boost about winning toy soldiers and hopefully that lifts your spirits enough to prevent reality from setting in
>>98232329I just say "are you sure you want to do that" before someone does something that will allow me to react, I'm not being a special ed teacher but I'm allowing my opponent the opportunity to think and ask if I have anything I can do in relation to their action.I'm not going to be a sped that tells people how to play their army, but I'll definitely give them indicators on whether they should consider what they're doing more closely so they can actually learn from the experience and create a neruron connection, because telling people how to play their army is just going to create the same players that still. omplain when they lose.
>>98232334Unless you're playing in a tournament, there is no reason to think like this. Good sportsmanship and curtesy should be the norm for friendly games. The term "WAAC" gets thrown around a lot but purposefully staying quiet while your opponent in a casual game makes an honest mistake or is clearly unaware of a special rule, just because you want to win, seems like genuine WAAC behavior.
>>98232380Shaming tactics like that only work on women. I have been playing 40k since 4th edition and Ive played against tournament players and casual players. It is your own fault if you don't learn the rules, it has nothing to do with ego.
I'm going to paint some models today.
>>98232388Look , I might be an outlier because i'm an insurance agent who has to remember the specific details of multiple policies word for word so for me reading every codex when its released is easy. When I win because of a gotcha , it is because my opponent didn't bother to learn about my army and they had more than enough time to. Friendly game doesn't mean giving your opponent every opportunity to win. That is just cope because you feel guilty at being better at something than someone else.
>>98232392Use purple.
>>98232381That's very fair and similar to what I do. I dont tell them how to pilot, but I let them reverse decisions when lack of information or a misunderstanding obviously lead to it. This is different than a tactical error. I have blood surge on world eaters, I remind them at the beginning of shooting and then if they shoot me anyway I ask if they forgot. If they did, undo it. If they say "I know" I let them do it and suffer. It's shocking these basic social skills are so lost. I'd love to play you, though
>>98232392lies
>>98232388Tournaments actively punish you and force you to give a take back or even hand out yellows for repeated gotcha behaviors. Im a TO myself and I hand them out so much that the chuds at my local area dont even play my events because I know they cheat all the time
>>98232389Okay. Ive literally played at world champs and you get thrown out of events for playing that way and we all mock you for it. You only play in an LGS that let's you get away with it, which is pathetic.

>>98232719Banning alcohol would directly result in far fewer drunk drivers. They'd exist, but there'd be way less, and as a result way fewer good innocent people getting splatted by those assholes. When a drunk driver gets in an accident, it's not usually the drunk driver that dies, it's the other party. Now do we actually care about saving innocent lives? I dunno, we're constantly bombing the middle east to save 50 cents on gas. It's like that "would you press a button for 1000 dollars if 1000 random people die" meme. >>98232726Alcohol is not a plague. It's actually good for you in moderation. Even the Bible recommends drinking some red wine now and then. Alcoholics are a plague. >>98232743Cigarettes are not just nicotine, this is just objective fact. They contain specifically crystalline silica (basically finely ground quartz that stays in the lungs and is hard to remove because its basically ground rock glass) and even scarier multiple compounds of formaldehyde. Both are considered highly carcinogenic, far more than nicotine. Nicotine in its pure form is rather famously not carcinogenic at all and has been rigorously studied. I'm sure you could find this out with a quick google search if you stopped being smug and just looked it up yourself. You can in fact just learn things whenever you want.

So your infernus marines are shooting S6 AP2 torrent weapons that reroll to wound. Pretty funny. Imagine the Overwatch stratagem here too. Makes my SoB jealous, literally just better SoB lol. It gets even crazier if you find some points to buy Enhancements for the Librarians, since Fullisade also gives the Infernus Anti-Monster 5+, Anti-vehicle 5+, AND Sustained Hits 1. I think Forgefather+Librarius go together like bread and butter.Plenty of home base objective defenders, and a really strong bid for the central objective with all the salamander character rules. This feels pretty good. My favorite Christian Cope is when you point out all the horrendous stuff in the old testament and they say "well that doesn't apply because Jesus made a new covenant and changed all the rules"Yeah ok but the god you worshipped still said all that old testament stuff was morally ok. >>98232839I think it is they just dont really call it slavery because its normalized as an institution of the state. People dont normally call for profit prisons in the US slavery either even though it pretty much meets all the defintions. Also a lot of imperial labor follows the serf model, I.E. peasents beaten into submission by the military to work and usually people distinguish between slavery and serfdom. If you are forced to sit in a room for 22 hours a day six days a week (or the equivelent schedule in your sci fi setting) copying books and if you slack off you get electro shocked and you are only there because your dad had the same job and you inherited it from him thats serfdom not slavery.
>>98232818The full context is that you should slavishly obey your masters and proudly let them abuse you because being a victim brings you closer to god. Christianity fetishizes being weak and trodden upon, it's literal slave morality.
>>98232850both the conquistadors and missionaries where christian, both claimed to act in gods name and both claimed the high ground from a moral standpoint. basically to assign any religious group as moral or immoral is pointless because the vast majority of people follow their own ideas on the matter first and the holy book second or third or not at all (like american evangelicals, mormons etc). The popes started major world wars at the height of their power, and advocated for looting, genocide, martial conquest, slavery etc. Modern ones tend to be more based, but if I was cynical I would say that is a product of their waning relavence that only true believers remain in the establishment as the church isnt an avenue for political power anymore.

>>98232067>I've read every codex from 2nd through 5th and a handful of newer ones (they're mostly bad compared to the old ones) and dozens of BL books and the old codexes absolutely fucking mog and lay waste to the novels in terms of getting across the overall lore of any factionYou're exactly the type of washed out wannabe old fag I was talking about. You haven't read anything. You're out of touch and you don't know what you're talking about.Plenty of factions have better BL lore than in the codexes, like the fucking Ultramarines btw.If you were honest, you'd be posting in the /grog/ general with anons into older editions, but instead you're here being a nuissance,I bet you're a seething eldar fag.>>98232083Shut the fuck up, pedantic pseud. Nobody actually smart uses "terminus ante quem" in casual conversation, you retarded christcuck. Read the room.

>>98233596>wannabe oldfags>eldarfags>pseuds>christcucks>terminally online culture warriorsBL have its ups and its downs like any other GW product. Sane anons just pick and mix whatever they like. But mentally ill retards who whine and sperg about BL for years and years here in /tg/ fall within one or more of these groups. Which one are you?>>98233607Old is not always better. Most of the time it's just different. Old codexes were indeed better written than newer 6ed+ onwards stuff, but they still had cringe and nonsense. You can't pass as an old fag if you ignore all the whining against it that was already common online back then.
>>98233633>Which one are you?Neither, and I still don't like BL, because it's shit and the people who swear by it are shit.

>While you can stretch a single deck across multiple players, we recommend that each player has a deck for themselves for convenienceAm I missing something here? It looks like a single Dominatus deck should be enough for up to 9 players unless I'm reading this wrong.
As much as I love Ebay deals seeing how fucking sloppily some people build their models is utter insanity to me.
>>98233835There was a guy here who bought I think a chaos predator off ebay once and whoever he bought it from used so much hot glue to put it together that the anon had to just incorporate it into the model and paint it up like flesh/corruption. IIRC whatever hot glue the seller used was just too strong/bonded to remove without hacking up the tank in the process.
>>98233846For me it's not cleaning the models after removing them from the sprue.I can somewhat understand not cleaning mould lines because people are blind as shit/dont care that much but when every model looks like a chaos champion with the amounts of plastic sticking out I start having questions.
Tranny janny deleted about 50 posts in this thread. really earning that 0$ paycheck
>>98233866Was that the shit storm from yesterday??? that was funny hahahahaha
>new edition around the corner>see this at LGS>still full price>most people wouldn’t even take them if the were free>they’ll probably get thrown out or shredded into that pulp they use to make egg cartons I feel bad for LGS that need to take up so much shelf space stocking this crap. Paper codexes are such a waste. Honestly a subscription based app would be preferable to these glorified paper weights. Or just little sealed cards with the redeemable code inside
>>98233857>when every model looks like a chaos champion with the amounts of plastic sticking outNo see this works with the new free pivot rules. Since your model can rotate as much as it wants for no extra movement, you can spin it like a beyblade as it crosses the field, and so having spikes and jagged edges is a tactical advantage.
>>98233893>Paper codexes are such a wasteMore so because they get errata'd within half a year of buying one so the rules inside aren't even accurate anymore.I don't see how this is acceptable to anyone. The only balance changes that should occur once a codex is printed is changing point values. Besides points, every rule and every word that's in the codex you bought should stay how it is for its whole lifespan.
>>98233306You definitely want a magnetized carrying case for transporting a DEldar army because they have lots of little spikes and blades and chains that hook onto each other and everything else and snap easily. When you assemble your boats it's also a good idea not to glue the sails on so you can lay them down during transport and reduce height. Possibly the spikes and flags too.

>>98233280Everybody knows the answer to that.
>>98233959Only noticing now the same guy on both pics. Some anon pointed out that he's a designer and the chick is marketing from upstairs, basically just the people working on the book, hence the awkwardness of their stances.

Don't care for this new artwork, they look like action figures.Always good to see Marines Malevolent, though.
>>98234004Yeah what's the deal with these new sample arts for Chapters? Why do they look like mobile game assets?
>>98234004>shrink the bolter a bit to make it look closer to older minis>meanwhile the minis in the actual box:
>>98234004>>98234011How long do you think until GW bites the bullet and just releases a non-primaris Tactical Squad? Pretty obvious that they're rolling back all the new design choices bit by bit.
>>98234013They're just backtracking on aesthetic, they're not undoing Primaris as a concept itself
>>98234007I was thinking they look like the joytoys.

>>98234049Aneurismus Astartes Chapter?>>98234013If the Scouring rumors are true we'll get mk7 marines soon enough. For 40k the best you'll see is the same primaris base/proportions but the armor parts fashioned like old marines.>Removed fake pecs>Removed knee fin (I need to find the actual word for these)>arms and thighs without the extra layer>different helmet & powerpack>bolt carbineThat alone would make a ton of people happy
>>98234093>I need to find the actual word for theseIt's a knee guard. I believe GW called them like that themselves in one of the Primaris design articles.
>>98234100>knee guardI'd believe them since I can't find real armor with such a thing
>>98234100>>98234110Apparently it's a "knee guard". Heh.Fucking knee guards.
>>98234054it's actually unreal that trazyn, THE most popular necron character, top 2 most popular xenos character and the main character of one of the best selling BL books, is stuck with an ancient garbage finecast model
>>98233227the amount of estrogen in this thumbnail is off the charts
>>98234129>ancientGotta leave something for the new edition codices I suppose Named characters and pity units
>>98234129There's def a new model sitting there for the right moment to be released. Same with the black templar ancient or the chaos bikers (soon, trust)
>>98234090my lgs has sold 0 copies so far today
>>98234129I think that GW designers actively resent 40k characters created or made popular in other media.Look at the dogshit Titus models, or how Honsou, the most important Iron Warrior leader just below Perturabo has been forgotten in the IW release.
>>98234129almost like his popularity is a figment of your delusional imagination
>>98233227>warmachinetoo goofy>trench crusadeNot sci-fi, but most important held back by owners>infinityit's sci-fi but nothing special>battletechPeople like big robots, but they are not that special>WW2 gamesNiche and nerd status cursed>fantasyThey're all samey despite being different, it's weird. To be fair if you made another space fantasy with space orks, space elves and warriors in power armor you'd be seen as a 40k rip-off.I love 40k, even if nu40k sucks donkey dick, but it's still leagues more interesting than the "competition".
>>98234140All artists have egos and if given a choice they will want to leave their own mark on an IP/setting even if they come up with dogshit like the taurox transport, firestrike turret, tau sunshark bomber (I bring up those things because they all had forge world models that easily could have been ported over but the """""artists""""" had to grace us with their creativity instead.)
Whoever does the Eldar stuff has my approval. The marineman can die in a fire.
>>98232923>>Already know we're getting them>Multipart BoysAre we? Necron Warriors and Termagants from the starter sets ended up not getting multiparts. The Termagants just got an extra weapon sprue.

>>98234150what about star wars legion? they’re pretty good afaik
>>98232060I did this. Stuck em on a third party sculpture to get them to the same height as primaris jumpies
>>98232784Post liquor cabinet.
>>98234175It's more of a star wars game that's war game flavored than a wargame that's star wars flavored.Star wars is unique enough that you either like it or you don't, so a star wars wargame needs to appeal to star wars fans who are also interested in wargaming.
Give it to me straight anonsIs it flopping or is it selling?
>>98234185some polack who lives in the middle of nowhere is going to tell you his shop hasn't sold any copies and therefore its flopping everywhere
>>98234185It's a moderate success. Neither a flop nor a sellout.I'm waiting for the multipart marine kits
>>98234185Both, really. It's release day here and while there weren't any lines, nearly every single person who entered the LGS had preordered a copy. Some bought two. Now if Alphaspel could hire non-sperg staff to run the till, it would be even smoother...
>>98234205>both!>everyone who came into my store had purchased a copy, sometimes two!care to revise your original statement?
>>98234185I know about 15 boxes in total bought by multiple people - I myself bought 2. All of those 15 boxes have been pre-ordered, no one bothered with waiting till today.
>>98234216nta but he's telling you there weren't lines (big success), yet those who entered had pre-ordered it. I get the nuance.
>>98234185it's just sold more copies than any other model range has sold over the past year combined, don't delude yourself.
