OD&D has the 3d6 down the line, which tells which class you should pick.

In Classic Traveller, you roll dice and push your luck.

Cyberpunk 2020 have the fast method for ability score generation, and the life path.

Both systems the character creation is a fun mini-game, takes the players from their comfort zone, and avoids paralysis.

Recommend RPGs with similar character creation through random (or mostly random) rolls and push your luck processes.

RuneQuest (at least the latest edition) has random character gen rules that go as far as having you roll for the fate of your ancestors.

Why not just pick a class, especially when the scores have negligible usage in the actual game (pre Greyhawk).

Idunno, picking a Wizard when you have 7 INT seems like a bad idea.

OP is just wrong. OD&D didn't have minimum attribute requirements for choosing a class. You could be a fighting man with 3 Str. You just gained less xp.
Minimum attribute requirements where introduced in AD&D1e and their purpose was to make special classes feel actually special by having high requirements and thus being rare. Basic classes also had a minimum requirment for their main stat but that was 9.

Intelligence literally has no effect on being a magic-user and you'd likely even avoid the prime requisite XP penalty due to your other stats.
The whole XP bonus/penalty system can pretty much be yanked anyway since it rarely makes a difference for more than one session.

Paranoia had that Criminal Histories Lifepath book.
I feel like Lifepath gen could be used way more in bespoke setting books.

Traveler had the best randomization systems. Both for characters and planet generation. My group used to have a problem with power gamers but after trying traveler it became more interesting to just run with what you rolled.
