Do you ever combine systems? Or experiment with it? And I mean less "Oh I will take this one cool combat ability from Gurps and add it into 5e", but more "I will take this core base system and use it in tandem with this other core base system".Ive personally been experimenting with this with d6 system/WEG star wars and Barbarians of lemuira. I really like the degree of incrementality of the dice resolution in the d6 system(d6, d6+1, d6+2, 2d6, 2d6+1, 2d6+2, etc), but I am not the biggest fan of its damage avoidance and health system (3 different types of damage avoidance, levels of damage instead of HP, death spiral). I much prefer the simplicity of barbarians of lemuria's health and damage avoidance system (roll to hit, then roll to damage vs armor, basic HP, Most things deal d6+x damage, and health varies relatively little around an average of 10).Sometimes I feel one system does one thing more to my liking, but another system does something else more to my liking. It can sometimes be a pain because things might be interrelated, but in this case, not so much.
Me and a buddy of mine attempted to merge mechanics from 4nd, 8th and 10th edition warhammer once. We liked the general ease of play of 10th but felt like it had no real flavor or strategic depth, so we grabbed the artillery rules from 8th and the vehicle damage tables from 4th.It kinda sorta roughly worked but to be honest every version of Warhammer is so isolated to their own mechanics balance was a nightmare and we just gave up, but someone smarter or more dedicated than us can probably make it work.In any case we ended up just playing bolt action instead lol.
>>98235183>This is me, never-ever game, making this thread for the 4th time within past 30 daysWhy you even bother at this point? You and your ilk already killed this board, so what's the point to keep going? It's not like lurkers like me are going to go away, I survived worse than you, but it's still confusing.Or it's just a classic case of dead internet, where you aren't even a human being and simply a scheduled script?
>>98235204>4th, 8th and 10th edition warhammer once.that sounds neat. yah there are little super flavorful sub system in earlier additions that really do add a bit of spice to things, but I could def think that could be hard to integrate with how later editions are supposed to function as a whole.>>98235260I play though? Think I only tried a mash up game once however and it didnt turn out too well since I didnt think through how it would play, how things you dont expect until they come up in play pop up, and it being like the second time I ever GM'd.Seems like a pretty reasonable topic for whoever plays enough games to have thought about combining different things they like.
>>98235183ripping off monsters from ADnD
>>98235204>We liked the general ease of play of 10thWhy go to so much effort when you can buy a game suited to your tastes and intellect at any book or toy store? It's called "Snakes and Ladders".
>>98235183Not sure about "combining", but I modified SW Saga to have:> An optional d20 (base roll became 2d10)> No more HP, only Condition Track now.> 3 Jedi classes (Guardian, Sentinel, Consular)> Customizable, bounded and always beneficial armor....amongst other things. And to be fair, combining just sounds like homebrewing but with a kinda sensible shortcut.P.S.: Come to think of it, I did borrow a lot of Fragged Empire when I made my "PF Ultimate Campaign Kingdom Management". Could count. But then, 1d20 with crits versus 3d6 with Strong Hits wasn't that much of a change...
>>98235183Mini Six (updated WEG) with Body Points does exactly what you propose.
>>98235183Never actually played a game of blades in the dark, but have used its progress clocks in d&d 3.5 and edge of the empire. Its a really elegant way to keep and build tension during high stakes adventures.
>>98235183Frequently. Using various pbta moves, fronts and threats, osr tables and bits to make a home brew monster. Taking monsters from whatever bestiary I think is cool. Generating sectors and planets with Stars Without Number for a Space Battles campaign. Using different wargames for mass battles. I've been considering looking at Gumshoe and figuring out how to scrape the investigation part and put it on other things.
>>98235183Since im a rules-lite hipster using ICRPG's various rules in place of other games help streamline a lot of stuff the main two i enjoy are>Single scaling target number for whole scenes>distance measured in actions rather than approximationsThis helps me plug into many systems and focus on the character building and narrative without needing a lot of refrence material
>>98236982Yes, this^Also WEG OpenD6 Space already does it too, Body points (HP) , damage minus armor, etc.A lot of the people stuck in WEG SW never tried anything that does not has Star Wars on the cover, such many cases.
>>98235183On brand, I've been really tempted to steal GURPS Swashbucklers movement system for Honor + Intrigue for an upcoming pirate campaign since H+I barely has a movement system.>>98235183>>98237556>>98236982Also you're all wrong. Honor + Intrigue is the best star wars system.
>>98236982I actually did use Mini six as a base, but I thought WEG would be a more widely understood byward. Also, I wouldnt exactly say upgrade, but side grade for simplicity and more general use. (I do think it could use 5 or 6 core attributes instead of 4 though)>Body pointsI dont remember that in the rules.>just ctrl+f itah in optional rules area. ill have to try it out.I am a personal fan of how BoL does armor though. Where you roll a dice and thats how much damage you negate. That way you can roll so low that it simulates something getting past your armor, or so high that it can negate it completely, or somewhere in the middle and just partially reduce damage.
>>98237904Oh, I also prefered Barbarians of lemuria's career system where you pick like 4 careers and you can do a number of things related to that career compared to the bit more specific skills that are given in WEG/D6
>>98237904>>Body points>I dont remember that in the rules.>>just ctrl+f it>ah in optional rules area. ill have to try it out. That explains a lot about you, OP.
>>98235183Nah I'd rather just make my own shit.
>>98236981>I did borrow a lot of Fragged EmpireActually cursed.
>>98237904I also use 6 attributes in M6! Glad to see I'm not alone.
>>98237787>GURPS Swashbucklers movement systemIs it any different from regular gurps movement (you move in yards based on your speed)?
>>98235183eight years ago I tried to combine the d100 Warhammer 40krpgs with twilight 2000 2ed. I don't really know what I was smoking.
>>98239169Which ones? I havent really implemented it, but the one I was pretty sure I wanted to add was spliting up Agility into two parts, one that focuses on full body acrobatics and one that focuses on manual dexterity. That way you can have a cowboy whos a quick shoot or a fat lock picker who arent necissarily ballerinas flipping all over the place. I could also maybe see spliting up wit to having more intellectual skils and more sensorial skills (int and wis in dnd speak)>>98239466you were smoking proto-fent>>98237311Generation for Stars without number. I have heard this a few times. I have worlds without number, and I liked the tables, but honestly it just felt like a hastle to take out the book a lot of the times.
>>98239793>but honestly it just felt like a hastle to take out the book a lot of the times.I tend to find them useful for prep tables more than use-during-play tables. There's a distinction in design. Some of the >roll all the dice sizes ones likely give people who want to improvise enough to run with but its not how I do it. Didn't use this generator but I likely would if I were making a sector again. https://sectorswithoutnumber.com/
>>98239793OK this is getting spooky
>>98236890Post your minis
>>98239286Not really, it just has a few extra added rules like chandelier swinging based on how far you move before, sliding down railings, and rope swinging and whatnot.Honor + Intrigue is more "rule of cool" and doesn't get into the details, and that's fine, but I personally would like some rules for some of the above stuff.
>>98242399Ah, I see, those sound cool. Might take a look.
>>98240954you know what they say about great minds....
>>98240954I might actually steal this verbatim...
>>98242925Feel free. I highly recommend the flattening of specialisation too.

>>98246817Ah. So the culprit got named. Good show. Next time I'm on my laptop I'll post more D6 system goodies.
