I want to run the Borderlands type of campaign for a local community. It will be something like a little social group/club for those who wish to try TTRPGs and for meeting new people. Obviously I don't want to run WotC D&D. I need something simple, so even normies could grasp the rules, and fantasy so everyone are on the same. What are the options?

Just settle your autism and run D&D

Run it with either one of the literally hundreds of OSR games on the market OR run it with one of the TSR D&Ds.

run it with the Basic set as it was conceived for. Of course you can convert it to the system of your preference but it will be a time consuming project.

a type of campaign or the actual Keep at the Borderlands module? Important difference

A type of a campaign, not the module itself. So the consistent group of players is not important.

I also wanted to add some Dark Souls features to it like phantoms of players who are not at the table now, messages from other players left on stages, vague lore forming through player guesses.

play BX like intended, dummy

Either go with b/x and take your choice of any one of a hundred b/x clones or run it in 1e.

1e's more of PITA to set up but it's more flexible. b/x isn't nearly as flexible but it's pretty much plug-and-play.

... do you mean West Marches?

What's the original art for that Dire Gazebo in the back row? Looks cool.
>>
>>98238070
Oh, yes, my bad.

>>98238077
Unfortunetly, it is just a slop. I couldn't find an art about the gazebo meme.

Just based on how you articulated the question and your lackluster responses to the solid advice already provided itt, my honest opinion is that it would be for best for all of your potential future players if you were to simply kill yourself today.

You missed one of the mod threads.
>>
>>98238883
They're pretty different things, although there can be some crossover and I see how the terms got mixed up.
You'll have better luck with a more accurate OP, there are several anons on the board who run West Marches games.

I see. Then maybe I will make a new thread when this one drowns and try to ask around in OSR-threads.
