The Internet's modern use of the word might seem like it's always used to describe a very specific body type, but it isn't. And there have always been detractors that want those proportions slimmed down, I assure you. Ultimately, what I'm trying to say is that both of you are right because it kind of doesn't matter. "Modern Shortstack" is just a pointless label we throw on things.

No one could really agree where to make them, so we kind of bopped back and forth. And there wasn't a universal term, so those threads grew out of another handful of threads dedicated to other things where we posted meager offerings for art and tried using the term "Teapot" ("short and stout") to describe them. That term obviously didn't stick, but it was reused later on for boy shortstacks ("here's my handle, here's my spout"). I did this for months for people before someone else finally made a thread when one of mine went down and I wasn't around, and then I stepped back and let them spinoff on their own. Baby bird logic. Shortstacks frequently don't even have the same body proportions as human beings, and when they are human they're more frequently adult than child. There's a big difference between them that's both skin deep and also deeper and if you made that claim at the UOOH crowd, they'd probably crucify you for it unless they were looking for more social acceptance. I will say some artists blur the line in design aesthetic, but the best artists make it obvious without even pointing it out.
