Given that al bandai ccgs are the exact fucking same, they should be able to play together. Imagine weregarurumon vs gundam epyon, or shenlong fighting rock lee.

I'll bake the threads from here until the end of time if you're going to be a faggot. There have already been times in the past where I did it for several months straight. I don't ask for much around here, but I assure you I have an insane level of autism and nothing but free time. Just put Little Troubles back in the OP if you're going to bake.

>>98245373This. And they actually think people read it.

People have, actually, repeatedly discussed the new MLP TCG here. Most notably when a Japanese unboxing and tutorial was linked, but other times too which should not be hard to find in the archives. That would also prove that the one seething about it isn't the real cat anon, since one of those discussions involved informing him that there are indeed cats among the mlp cards, coupled with links to the mlp wiki. So please try not to out yourselves as flaming newfags this hard.
I need all Lorcana pump and dump scalpers to leave. Stay in pokemon where you belong.
>>98246395Haha, yeah, it's getting pretty rediculous.Fun fact: Apparently, the $8000 Buzz Lightyear looks pretty cool under a black light.
>>98245761nta but there's no other strategy? some sort of massive design flaw by bandai?
>>98245411>retard doesn't realize the purpose of this general is to talk about the nonpopular card games that don't have their own dedicated threads alreadyScalper alertLogan Paul dicksucker alertCryptofaggot alert
>>98246716It's a consequence of the way units work, you can't hit an active unit and without a dedicated blocker there's no way to fight back. I've lost many a match due to the simple fact of the opponent having a usable link in hand so they get the final hit before me. This could be rectified if you could have bases that don't also deplete your shields, or a way to add to a base's stats so it's harder to destroy it in a single hit. It shouldn't be a viable strategy to pop multiple bases to intentionally deplete your shields so you have more cards in hand to boardflood with but that's how it is right now until they give you a reason to not assume a base is just going to die immediately to one heavy hitter so their ten little shits can then hit you unopposed for free
>>98244460>What's the next property bandai will make into a card game?As they will use the MTG/DuelMasters-slop formula (mana, creatures, attack, life-cards) I bet they will not do another new game as they have all the big shonen properties on either their own card game or in union arena. If I had to choose anyway then either a All-SuperSentai card game or retire one of the shonens from Union Arena to make its own game.Naruto only got its own game because it was an worldwide success and is still popular.
Are these card frames too minimal?
>>98246998No, but the symbols on the bottom were difficult to parse at a glance. You might want to find a way to rectify that.
>>98247099True, thank you
>>98246821a tcg where aggro is the top meta sounds awful ngl
>>98246731Sounds like your game ain't on the list, timmy.
Why do indie TCG always have an issue with having an actual thematic or reason to have all these cards on the board?Lately in my local scene there's been people shilling this shitty TCG only because it's made here and the cards are utter shit, it's all AI slop with a few dashes of actual art from artists. But the thing that bugs me the most is that the game has no cohesive theme whatsoever, it literally is a "random bullshit I like" TCG.Shit has generic AI slop dark fantasy, sci fi aliens, cyberpunk humans, viking birds and vampires.
>>98246821Digimon did the same thing and it also sucks. I don't know if it's been fixed, but there was no decent board wipe in the beginning of the game, and they printed a bunch of unlockable creatures and cheap tax cards. I solved the meta for my local play group immediately than quit playing because it was boring to win on "turn four" every game. Maybe we all sucked and I just sucked least. I don't really know.
>>98246998The symbols will blend with the art, put a colored rectangle behind them.>>98247482ntaIDK anon, you are calling all the top games good? Because most of them are slop (and everyone know it)(I like Digimon but despise and refuse to play all the other magic clones/bandai shit)
>>98244460>What's the next property bandai will make into a card game?Well Tekken is apparently their best selling franchise.
>>98247900There are indie TCG like that indeed but others that try to do something.Exemples:There is a prison fight tcg (made by one anon) that is like fab: you play equipment and abilities and use action cards. If I m not mistake there is a backrooms tcg where you put rooms&monsters or something like that on the board....It is a mix bag
>>98245411if your tcg IS on that list it should be removed from the OP and not be talked about here on /dead games generally/
Now that they released Quattre pilot can they bad Amuro for good? please, fucking do it!Also ban Kyra too
what do you think of this card?it's just a prototype so it has to look simpleI'll iterate on the design in the future
>>98248388Looks like slop
>>98248396please, disregard the use of AI-generated art
>>9824682199% of gundams problems would be fixed if>lv3/4 true board wipe>shields go to hand when destroyed (alt the digimon thing where damage is applied if a unit in shields)>bases with higher def or attack stats
>>98248388>>98248398In that case, I guess the font sizing could do with adjusting. If you size the image to around an actual card size, the "AGENT" text at the top and "SOFTWARE" text for the type(?) look very small. If the top left number/icons are cost, I assume that's at least a little important, so maybe they should be bigger.I don't like the way the black part of the border that bumps up for the POW number then drops back down sharply leaving this weird spiky part in the bottom right corner of the card. It looks weird and imbalanced. I think it should just continue flat to the right edge of the border. Maybe the number/text could have some position adjusting. Maybe the POW text is redundant.
>>98248429thanksI'll look into it
>>98247900in terms of quality you kinda answered your own question."why is lazy cashgrab TCG seem so lazy and cashgrabby?" is self explanatory. if a game's using a lot of gen AI for art we're already past the point where the devs gave much of a fuck about the result.in terms of theme and why a lot of TCGs end up with a kitchen sink setting, it's more an organic product of the devs and artists wanting to do something new and different each set. it's really hard for a TCG to stay squarely in the original theme for a long time if it keeps expanding. that's why MTGs planes eventually just became setting-hopping. in recent memory we watched it happen with FAB, where it started as a standard fantasy Deadliest Warrior but eventually grew to include cyberpunk and robots. Ashes' recent set started adding more steampunk/magitek to what was a "every flavor of fantasy" setting. it's just a thing that happens.
>>98247900People who make their own tcgs are generally split into two: the ones that want to play a game with a particular theme that aren't currently available in the market (or the ones that are don't satisfy them), or more often, the ones who don't like a particular mechanic from a game they play (or conversely, they have a mechanic they like that they don't see enough of) and want to play a game without/with said mechanic. The latter obviously wouldn't care too much about theme, as long the cards do what they want them to do.
>>98247900I'm not a game designer at all so idk how it will turn out, but at least my game won't have ai in it Tomorrow I have a free day to work on the game, I'll see if I can get the playtest cards down and finally post the rules
>>98248364Medabots deserved better.
>>98247961>you are calling all the top games good?I was mostly ragebaiting the two autists fighting over the OP. But to answer your question, some of them are good. Riftbound and Digimon are well-designed, though Digimon has balance and powercreep issues. Some are objectively bad, but I still enjoy them, like Yugioh and Pokemon (turns take way too long + huge balance issues). Bandai games are decent, they just lack originality and often feel like reskins of other games.
how is there no dedicated general for each of these tcgs? at least some of them get tens of thousands of views per event and we don't have the traffic to sustain a 15-20 people discussion without it falling off the board? this doesn't add up. are people really using other platforms like fucking discord as a hub?
>>982493944chan is not a representative sample of the population.I don't know why you would expect it to be.
>>98249394>are people really using other platforms like fucking discord as a hub?yeah, it's that bad.The primary advantage is that they can have full control over the discourse, while also having plausible deniability by saying it's "community organized". Add to that terminally online trannies sustaining the discourse by feeding off the attention. It's the total redditification of the internet.
>>98249394>are people really using other platforms like fucking discord as a hub?yesI have fallen to doing that too because it'sthe only place where there's discussion for the tcg I play.
>>98249394I'm shocked you were uninformed since this board is the place I see the infographic posted the most but traffic on this site has fallen hard in the past 10/5/1 years, trends mostly older, and is made up of people who mostly want to argue rather than discuss. Do the math.
>>98249567I hate the discord servers for everything. It's fucking impossible to search old posts and because its so easy to make a derver everyone makes a server for their own nich shoot-off of the main thing, making things even harder to find. I miss old forum and board posting structure so much.
i wish there were more rogue brewers or people playing pet decks. the 'serious' gundam meta is only like 3 decks. it's boooooooooooring.

>>98252136cards look like a mix between that bible game and pokemon and bad.
>>98253178It's pretty obviously and intentionally aping Pokemon. In that respect it seems like it wipes the floor with metazoo, but that's not saying much. there's an upper limit to how good a game inspired by Pokemon could possibly be.
>>98251480Plot twist; Chane gets rethemed as a Shadow Warrior in an all warrior set with Dori, Bolt and Hala. Can't be a busted Runeblade if he isn't a Runeblade. Don't need anymore Runeblades. I have Runeblade fatigue.Actual prediction though, Malice and Prism as Shadow and Light Illusionists.
So the Naruto TCG ACKed?
It's going to be funny when the Naruto TCG will surpass all the TCGs people play here in popularity. Can't wait for the crashouts.
I hope it does, for the crashouts
Naruto TCG died before Little Troubles lmao
>>98247900>>98251058>>98251064>>98252136The thing with most indie tcgs is that the creators think they are being cleaver creating a "good" game but they are mostly repeating the same formula for the 100th+ time. That is why this thread is cool for creators, here you can see other ccgs that have different type of game play and do have cool mechanics that are not the same mtg-lite(-like) shit all over again.
>>98255871Idk about the V1 but AGOT LCG V2 sucked ass
>>98255907The LCG is the TCG on steroids (with lots of unnecessary shit). While still reprinting a few cards from the tcg era with slight different rules. For exemple in the TCG that card of Tywin is a bit hard to play unless you have enough locations that generate income in your deck. (as one plots that generate 5+ income are quite rare). In the LCG you get 7 gold for set up, in the TCG it is 5. In the LCG most plots are 4+ golds while in the TCG most of them are between 2 and 4. Also the TCG has less things to keep track, for exemple gold(income) only matters for putting characters into play during the marshaling phase, after that you lose all unspent gold. In the LCG you could unspent gold for dominance (if I m not mistaken). And plot cards from the TCG does not have the "maximum number of cards in hand" that the LCG does.(pic is one of the few plots with 6 income, I think there is another one but could be wrong)
>>98256053Damn, I m retarded and apparently can't write while keeping attention on other things. >(as one plots that generate 5+ income are quite rare).as plots that generate 5+...>, for exemple gold(income) only matters for putting characters into play during the marshaling phase... matters for putting characters/attachments/locations/etc ...>In the LCG you could unspent gold for dominance (if I m not mistaken)In the LCG you keep track and use unspent gold (not used in the marshaling phase) to determine dominance (together with the sum of their characters' total strength) during the dominance phase.

>>98256053God I was hoping L5R would get a second edition. The core rules just had so many problems..
>>98259327All they had to do was just remake the L5R ccg but FFG being FFG they fucked that up and made a shitty game that died after like 1 year
>>98259842Didn't die on its own merits anyways. It all got fucked by Asmodee since that's when they gutted every bit of FFG.
>>98259327Like the other anon said they fucked up L5R big time. The TCG is times better rules wise than the fucking lcg.At least the miniatures game they are doing looks cool.
>>98259327the actual L5R was great. the FFG version was a reboot made by people who hated L5R, and was unsurprisingly shit.
>>98259842The LCG gameplay wise was amazing lol. FFG just fucked up balance and killed it at the outset with 3x core set requirementFUCK you couldn't even buy one core set and actually play the game, I remember that shit was basically DOA at the release event in terms of other people's enthusiasm
>>98261350Miniatures? Are you talking about that board game one by monolith or are we getting a new clan wars?
>>98261853>The LCG gameplay wise was amazing lol. You’re crazy. Defending was basically useless, only 2 rings were good, locations were shit, units staying 1 or 2 turns. OKAY HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK HOLY FUCK IT'S HAPPENINGCHAOTIC PREORDERS WERE LIVE TODAYTHEY REVEALED THE BOOSTER BOX DESIGN, 2 STARTER DECKS, AND THESE 4 FOUNDATIONAL DECKSMy thoughts:-Booster box only having 18 packs is interesting so I hope they adjusted the ratios to have more Ultras per box. Also that preorder price on Toywiz is hopefully not MSRP ($225 would be nuts and retail pricing would not reflect well either)-Starter decks are only Overworld/Underworld again, kinda lame, kinda nostalgic and iconic. Intriguing how they label it so instead of 1 48 card deck with 4 random bonus Rares like the original it is now 2 separate 24 card "Foundation" decks and 2 "2 card mini packs". I wonder how this would affect the gameplay of it or they wanted to introduce 2 different gameplay strategies and let players choose which deck to improve and buy cards for.-Arguably *the* most intriguing product shown, the Foundational Deck. It comes with 1 24 card Foundational Deck and there's 4 different arts (who knows if you get the cover card otherwise I'm pretty sure is going to be bought the fuck out of while the other 3 rot on shelves) and a mini bonus 2 card pack. So it's essentially half of a starter deck.-It seems like it's a complete reprint of the game itself. Probably the most exciting news here. All these old cards players couldn't get their hands on will now get a 2nd printing.TL:DR It's back, but also kind of never left? Everything is getting reprinted, who knows how they will price it 20 years later

>>98272164Just commons and uncommons? You said core constructed, are you future-proofing for the next set, when set rotation happens? Naturally, the card pool will be drastically reduced when that happens. Any particular colors you'd like to play?
>>98267204It's the greatest card game I have ever playing in my 41 years of existance. It's quite fiddly to learn but as soon as it clicks it's fantastic. Lots of mechanics and things to consider which makes deckbuilding a delight. We have played it religiously at the LGS and it feels like we have only scratched the surface of what you can do and build. At least give it a try I would say.
I watched 6 games of Sorcery 5 of them were one sided stomping
>>98274337Since there are so many parts to consider when building a deck it's quite easy to build a really subpar deck in the beginning. After a while you get a feel for what you need for a balanced deck and then the matches are more even.

>>98273194More updates on the Chaotic news!We got official MSRP listings for everything here, as well as set distributions and our first preview of what I assume are the "premium foil treatments" (aka Borderless Card Arts, for some reason the Redditors are confused about this)So $90 a booster box for 18 packs, $5 a pack, and Starter Decks are $25 while the Foundation decks are $15. Pretty good, any time a booster box for a card game is less than $100 you're allowing a lot of people to buy into the product, pretty generous especially considering Panini of all companies is a partner in this. Their sports card stuff is really pricey.Set distribution also now lists *SECRET* rares as part of the set, so that will be really interesting. Whether that's the Borderless cards or just Standard cards at higher rarity, I assume Secrets will be 1 per box, and Ultra Rares 3 per box? If we go by the 18 pack box metric anyway. They also cut back on the 32 Super Rares from the original Dawn of Perim to just 13 here so now it's way easier to collect a full set from boxes. As for the borderless cards, some people assume they could be the "Secret Rares", so you can always consider that, but I feel like Secret Rare goes beyond just "alternate art". Like the original sets had Promo Rarity cards that were hard to pull in main sets and were unofficially Secret Rares in themselves, so I figure this would be more of the same, while the Borderless cards would be little bonuses and extras you can sometimes get in a pack like Magic Play Boosters.TL:DR Chaotic will be fun to collect and *affordable*. Full art cards confirmed, but unknown as to their rarity for now. Secret Rares officially in Chaotic.

>>98285699It's a pirate themed game, with actual ship boarding and positioning. I think the theme is just universally approachable. Who doesn't like pirates? Win the game by meeting these requirements:>Have three ships, all manned by at least one pirate>Higher combined total of power amongst pirates on the board than opponent >Spend your turn claiming the treasure by using up three actions (there are ways to cheat more than 3 per turn)The Charcuterie Boys are back at it again, getting the exclusive scoop with developer demonstrations before the game is even out. There's a free demo deck available at Team Cov, and the following is a link to the creator walking Zach through a game with the demo deck.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3-us5UWe7o
They even solved the bulk problem. Treasure maps pop up from time to time, you need to locate the commons that have the artwork indicated on the map, then you mail it to them to receive fabulous prizes. Seriously, what's not to love about a good old fashioned treasure hunt?

>>98285892Did you ever stop to think how many fucking card games ape the same shit and drive the problem deeper into a rut? The indie developers are trying to reverse course by offering an alternative, rather than double down and force people to only engage with card game's the one true way.
>>98285934Their solution is just making a LCG with extra steps. They can just do that but the indie LCG/board game space is already full so all they do is throw in arbitrary TCG chase because their games wouldn't survive anyways. These aren't alternatives. It's just finding different ways to throw whale bait into the water

Also you could use symbols for rank (#) and cost(£) . Text box could be smaller too. As you are designing a "modern" game that has less border try your best to make the visual information easy to find on the cards.

>>98285750Yeah I've learned over the years to just automatically avoid anything Covenant does. They come at these smaller games from a purely exploitative angle. Be the big fish in the small pond so you can run the table, which is further supported by them being a vendor. If they get in bed with a small game early they can push exclusive promos and sealed product subscriptions and shit, on top of just having access to everything to that first point of running the table. If a game becomes even remotely popular or larger they jump ship for the next obscure thing. They are a weird mixture of contrarian and parasitic. If Covenant backs it just stay away.
>>98291956>They come at these smaller games from a purely exploitative angle. What exploitation? >If they get in bed with a small game early they can push exclusive promos and sealed product subscriptions and shitBut they get one promo, for a couple of games they sell. They don't sell the promo, it's a buy a box deal, and they don't even price hike on release like so many others do. So what's the problem there?>If Covenant backs it just stay away.I get that you're bias towards them but that doesn't mean you should avoid games they play just to prove a point. >>98303564How do I join? I own I think the most dragonlord out of anyone.
Not exactly the right thread for it, but I need some suggestions.I'm making a TCG where you move cards across a board to attack directly.I made it so everything inherently has trample, so defeating an enemy card inflicts damage Yugioh-style.The issue with this is that games end long before you actually reach your opponent's side of the board, and playing weaker cards (even if they have great effects) is suicide. If I remove the trample, though, games last forever with one player chaff-blocking.Is there a solution to this?
>>98311108Is there any reason to want to reach the opponent's side of the board?
>>98311115Well, you get to attack directly then, instead of trading smaller amounts of damage back and forth.
>>98311119How do cards move? Kinda need more information on how the game works before being able to say anything.
>>98311135You move them around a chessboard. Cards have a movement range as a stat. You deploy cards onto the board from something like a chess king, which you can move around. You can attack directly by reaching this king.
>>98311147How does combat work? Are there any resources? Is there a limit to what you can do on your turn?
>>98311150I'm sorry for being so obtuse. You have a resource you use to play cards from your hand, in order to stop playing from just spamming the strongest cards. You lose all of the resource at the end of your turn, so there's no ramping like in Magic or whatever, you're just at full power out the gate. You can move every card once per turn for free, and there's summoning sickness.Combat is just a straight up Power vs Power check. There are instant-speed effects and spells to make things less obvious, and you can play cards face-down to surprise your opponent. Obviously there are also cards that can give you more summoning resource, let you move cards more than once, and so on.
>>98311156Can combat happen at any distance?
>>98311158No, you attack by moving directly onto a space occupied by an opponent's card. Winner keeps the space, loser dies. Exception is attacking the king, in which case you just remain in an empty adjacent space (which is also what happens if a battle gets cancelled somehow).
>>98311163If removing trample makes the games last too long, you could just try to increase the king's health or decreasing stats. Like it feels like if a player is near or next to the opponent's king, they're in a far better position than their opponent. How big is the board? Goign to assume its 8x8. How much health does the king have? Can you post an example of a card?
>>98311177I guess it's really down to stat adjustments, huh.Thank you for your insight. It actually helped me think about this a lot. I only have one playtester so it's been hard to figure out game design issues.Thank you anon.
>>98311203You could also just make it so that you have to attack the opponent's king to win. Like it can't go below 1 health by trample. You have to make it to the king and deal the final attack directly.
>>98311108I would recommend adding a rule that changes how cards are affected depending on the distance of where they are placed to the king. Something like if it's placed too far away then it gets reduced stats, and if placed too close it'll get full stats but trample is in effect. It helps reduce the effectiveness of chaff spam especially when the fight is closer to the king while keeping it as an option, and lets the fact that it's played on a board have some relevancy to the game itself.
