Welcome to Mecha Monday! Here we dedicate ourselves to mecha RPGs, wargames, and boardgames alike. Here we start games, tell campaign stories, share resources & assets, and seek advice for our games and homebrew.Assorted Mecha Goodness:https://pastebin.com/E2wi55AZEmbryo Machine Translation:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r_cjOLuUp3HussVRhbQYU3G0zK6hwy1rLancehounds Homebrew:M3g4 folder/eMEBUbCL#kj2FRrlqTa-02U16XpnVRgPrevious Thread: >> 98072344Question of the Thread: How do you feel about fantasy mecha?Thread Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3YC1F-mLKY
Which games systems is the best for creating custom mecha? And I don't necessarily mean the most complex, just the one that has the best balance of complexity and playability at the gaming table (in your opinion).
>>98247791>QotTEscaflowne is one of my favorite anime so I've always had a soft spot for them. Sadly it's rarely done very well. I'm really looking forward to the Wares Blade books.
I can't figure out a cool and flovourful pirate build for a Lancer game, do you have ideas you could share?
>>98248068I have no idea about lancer mechanically, but going off intuition, a pirate's mech should be a frankensteined together bucket of bolts, with an overpowered engine straining to tear itself away from a chassis that was never designed for it, and equipped with some sort of grappling/capture weapon for taking prizes.
>>98247791Love fantasy mecha. Been very, very, very slowly working on a fantasy mecha setting to run for my regular group someday. For now though Wares Blade seems like it should really hit the right feelings I'm looking for with fantasy mecha.
>>98248068Get some kind of peg leg cannon to replace the left leg and some kind of hook/harpoon thing for the right arm
>>98249297tricorne hat radar
>>98249297>>98253038Monoeye camera in a head that looks like it was made for two eye cameras
>>98247791 >QotT i'm only into it about half the time i think my major malfunction is that i want guns and grunts out of mecha so i end up not liking knight stuff
>>98247791Speaking of OP, the Wares Blade people have been tweeting on the regular.https://x.com/waresproject_en
>>98248068What kind of space pirate are you?>Blackbeard wannabe on a space galeon>Somalian with laser AK
So if you can have a personalized mech. What kind of mech will it be? Give me your mech name. What can it do in the battlefield? How does it dominates the opposition? What's the gimmick? What's the weakness (if any)? What are its defining feature that's style over substance? What're the weapons?
>>98253807Kobalevsky 43 from Robot Jox for reasons I assume would be obvious?
>>98253596I was thinking granny pirate
>>98253945Well Kidd literally has one on the official artwork. You might also want to look into Bligh Alt frame for Kid from Enhanced Combat book since it's basically a walking pirate ship with boarding crew drones. Blackbeard build for grappling is an obvious if somewhat basic choice. You can mix it with Balor parts for some stacking.Alternatively Störtebeker with Caliban, can turn into a crazy effective blunderbuss + cutlass combo
Just reuploading Wares Blade beta appendix screenshots I had posted in a JTTRPG thread recently since that thread is dead and they're on topic for Mecha Monday threads anyway.
>>98260995>Attunement Value: 56Wow, don't think you have to worry about rolling under that.
>>98261558Probably a typo, it is the beta version after all. The beta main core book has the Spiritualist class description copy pasted into the Tradesfolk class description for example.
>>98261577Definitely a typo, just pointing it out for fun. It should be 5 because it's based on the Persona Rank.
>>98253239You say that but most fantasy mecha end up havinf missles anyway

>>98247791>>98247791Been working on a MechaStellar update that would make ships easier to use and better able to handle close range threats. Here's a game between Archangel + Eternal (SEED) vs Yamato and Task Force Alpha (Sentinel)>TQLove me some Escaflowne and Dunbine
>>98268242We recently added in a squad system, so we've got squads of Cosmo Tigers from Yamato and Novelle GM IIIsOn the opposing side we've got the very expensive Freedom and Justice taking the front lines. Since we're expecting backfield ambushes from the Cosmo tigers, Buster is hanging out on the backfield to provide cover for the Archangel and Eternal ships.
>>98268262Ambushes were very successful by the Cosmo Tigers who managed to hit the Archangel while staying out of LOS of BusterBefore this game we had to fix a lot of loopholes on Ambushing units to prevent any cheese of easily capturing control points, or in Big O's case, not letting them stomp up and OHKO a unit the same turn they ambush.
>>98268322This update was working on letting Ship Antiair weapons get free counters then fine tuning it so it was useful at deterring close range attacks while also not instantly killing any fighters that got close. It worked well, and meanwhile we had Yamato blasting away at Freedom, while Justice was dealing with the Zeta Plus C1 and Novelle GM III Squad. While Yamato had recently stomped on a Zeon remnants force, it was having a hard time pinning down Freedom with most its weapons save for the Smokestack launcher. It saved the shock cannons to hammer Archangel, which laid down an Anti-Beam depth charge keeping it alive longer. The GM IIIs were holding their own against Justice until it got into melee.>Note: Don't have a Justice mini at this scale so using Aegis as a stand-in
>>98268322The Cosmo Tigers chipped off most of the Eternals HP via Finishing Blow and doing bridge runs. Yamato blew apart the Archangel.Freedom and Justice survived, but couldn't take down Yamato, with the destruction of Archangel, Eternal they won with an overwhelming amount of VP.>oh and since Freedom was too agile, Yamato used the Wave Motion Gun on Buster for supreme overkill lmao...
>>98268344We realized from a previous game that Yamato was struggling even with grunts. We had some band-aids applied by letting Ace captains issues certain orders to increase chances to hit, but eventually we realized it would just be a lot easier to give them the same tools that mobile suits get for offense. Being able to use the Valor Skill for bonus Hits really gave Yamato the ability to pressure Freedom. It felt like a fair match, rather than one where Yamato has to simply endure while being unable to dodge an evasive target. On the other side, jets were being forced to rely solely on Finishing Blow to deal damage. While Finishing blow was updated to make GaoGaiGar's Goldion Hammer a lot more fun, it was unfortunately introducing some insane spikes to small units like Fighters or VOTOMs.While Finisher was useful for letting the Cosmo Tigers hunt battleships, the occasional spike from 700 DMG to 5000 DMG was simply too much. So we had to work on revising Finishing Blow.
any tldr about Obsidian Protocol? i just saw about their north american preorders and it seem pretty interesting with the whole modularity and magnets.
>>98262266 well, it's missiles in the abstract sense most of the time.

>>98260995This looks like all kinds of things I like, taking a look at the sample rules now. More inclined towards wargames with mecha than ttrpgs but might be able to make this work.
>>98247829I love fantasy mecha, its just not that comon, i have them in my ordinary setting (like a Rhode colossus than is a super robot used to fight the kaijus of the setting every few centuries in the biggest city, weird bio armor than work as armors plus weapons and are used be the equivalent of the witcher of my setting, Idols than are basically mini mech for the tribal than are used to kill monsters made of parts of animals, monsters and a spirit core etc).

>>98290481Today is the only day I won't wish ruination upon you.
What would you want out of a fantasy mech game? I've been reading Dragonmech again and pondering a dedicated steampunk mech wargame.
>>98291523Mechanics that help the mechs feel large like stomping infantry and uprooting trees to use as clubs. Monster fights that have the monsters that aren't mechs distinct. Magic rules that are powerful but don't overshadow the mechs. Mechaknight jousting and rules for special pilot skills. Distinct factions with different mech designs and approaches to warfare. Castle siege rules for breaking walls and towers. >dargonmech based
>>98291086 who's the artist for this one? it looks really good
>>98291574Yeah, I was thinking of giving mechs minimum moves so it feels like they have momentumFor an armor degradation system, I was thinking of having a pool of defense dice that decreases as you fail defense saves (with save determined by armor material).I'm not sure how I want melee to feel, but it has to feel good because of how important it is.
>>98287434Purple, light blues, yellows, reds, or patterns rather than colors

>>98292116Momentum and turning arcs based on the size of the mech is a a great idea. Maybe something like Gaslands' for different maneuvers as special orders or more skilled pilots. Defence dice as a resource is a decent abstraction that gets the idea across without having to get into hit locations if you're not going that granular. The melee for sure will the meat. Dragonmech was more big mechs smashing the crap out of each other, except for the mech ninjas. Could do hits causing incremental movement controlled by the attacker.
>>98293736check the share thread for where to send it to be cleaned if that's a thing you wantThe guy was not kidding when they introduced this as a janky game they made when they were younger. Seems functional enough though, just fiddly.
>>98293998I've always loved the galley mech thing of Dragonmech, where some have rowing decks or hamster wheels. And where the crews can get fatigued, but potentially burst into sprints surpassing what a steam mech can do.
>>98292860Get it from a better shop like Fortress Minis. US shipping rates are pretty normal
>>98293998I think i want to make melee feel like a hockey fight, with mechs entangling their opponents limbs and striking with a free hand
>>98247791>Question of the Thread: How do you feel about fantasy mecha? The Dunbine side story that takes place after the original series sold me on it. >>98268242 I like the idea of exceptional fighters being able to give mechs a run for their money. Vargas/Balgus was a badass motherfucker
>>98294347The orc mechs with slave power is deeply retarded but I love it. >>98295602>hockey fights, entanglement Could do a rock-paper-scissors but with more types of attacks and defences style combat. Maybe take the dice pool defence idea, so different types of weapons have different sized attack pools and have to distribute them differently to get through a mech's location defence pool.
>>98296084I also loved the pile bunkers that opened up holes for boarders to get inside the enemy mech.
Heavy Gear 4e, a player has asked whether he can put an AI (pg.166) into his Gear to get the +1d6 bonus. Is that allowed?
>>98296084>The orc mechs with slave power is deeply retarded but I love it.I am now imagining mecha Salamis or Lepanto with hundreds them ramming into each other and getting entangled so they can drop gangways onto the other mech and send boarding parties over.> more types of attacks and defences style combatI was thinking of giving weapons some perksSwords can parryAxes and hammers shred armorDrills and Saws shred more armor, but it ramps over time (so better to have them stuck right next to you while you buzzaw them)Claws and chains can entangle them (assuming some kind of pushback for fight losers, unless these are employed)
>>98296579There's all manner of goofy but somehow still aesthetically cohesive stuff going on in Dragonmech. The different man-powered ones all have weird custom methods, I think the big orc one has a series of huge fly wheels slaves keep setting. >weapon perks All seems sensible, at this point its more about picking a mechanical base and figuring out how to represent those ideas.
>>98296114A bunch of it stuck with me, lots of good world building and art. 3.5 dnd is not a thing I want to run anymore even a little bit but its an evocative setting.
>>98287434White with red highlights or markings. Like Final Fantasy white mage robes or Shinto shrine maiden dresses.
>>98298812>>98298782Yeah, I love the charcoal and mixed medium artwork of DM. There's really been nothing else quite like it.
>>98296257The book has lots of weirdnesses like that. From RAW, it would seem anyone with PL of 1 can add a total of +2d6 to whatever he wants. (Standard Computer + Barebones AI).I'd advise against it.
>>98298782>>98298812Dragonmech is a setting with a lot of soul and one of the actual steampunk themes IPs that didn't go for the faux Victorian quirky aesthetic to the point of retardation.I'm working towards running it on pf2 of all things, still a long way to go with mechs but I could run a short campaign in the setting not long from now
>>98299712>>98296257Ah - wait, no. Answer's just no.In the first paragraph it says "When performing science or otherwise non-physical skillsout of the field, (etc) ". So wouldn't be applicable for shooting/dodging etc
>Heavy Gear full of commies, both in the fandom and part of DP9 itself>Lancer needs no explanationWhy does this happen?
>>98300667>Why does this happen?people you don't like may or may not like things you like or don't like
>>98300667>Heavy Gear full of commiesQue?
>>98295729which one there's like two or three of them
>>98299734>I'm working towards running it on pf2 of all things,Don't know enough about how it changed from 1st to 2nd to really say, but it seems like a sensible enough way to go if that's the sort of game you like. I'm under the impression lancer is very 4E inspired and my one experience with 4e did feel like it would work fine for a mech combat game.
>>98300667You should ask Tomino
>>98298782What scale do you think makes sense? I was thinking 6mm since it's the standard from battletech, and keeps mini and especially terrain sizes reasonable.
What sorts of southern gears would make good bodyguards for tanks? I wanted to make an armor heavy combined arms force
>>98305815That scale makes sense to me and is one I like from the old Adeptus Mechanicus game. Might help to figure out how complex you want the game to be, because that will impact how many mechs at a time is feasible for a player to use.
>>98307812EW Gears to throw off TD attempts, and some melee-focused ones to chop up anybody who manages to get close
Trying to come up with a basic learner list for a first game of Heavy Gear. This is a legal list, right?Any usual newbie rules mistakes I should be aware of before we start? It'll be a 3.1 game of norf vs souf. I figure the first game we could just learn the basic turn structure, movement, shooting, and some simple objectives then in subsequent games we could progressively mix in more complicated stuff like opposed EW, TD/Guided, infantry, etc.
>>98308205Yep, it's as valid as it gets.As for newbie mistakes, in 3.1 keep in mind that :*Top Speed only lasts until end of model activation, as opposed to Braced.* Cover applies even if partially blocked* Cover applies even if the target is fired at indirectlyThe trickier rules probably won't show up with these kinds of force layouts, so I think you'll be OK.
>>98308388Now how would someone hard-counter this as north?
If the snub cannon is the iconic gun of the north, what is the souths?
>>98308388Got through it, mostly to success. There were only a few things we had trouble with.Weapon balance seems weird but a lot of that I think was how we deployed. An open map + true line of sight + deploying into clumps because we didn't know any better meant that we basically just traded rocket packs at each other every turn until one side got good enough rules, crippled the other, and just snowballed damage onto them one-sidedly until one force got tabled. This also meant that we didn't know when the game actually was supposed to end - another question we couldn't find an answer to.>* Cover applies even if partially blockedWe weren't sure exactly how to gauge whether a model had cover, IE, how line of sight works in the game. Like pic related, there was cover intervening between the base of the Jager and the base of the Hunter, but if you looked from the Jaeger's POV, the model wasn't actually obscured. We ruled it as having cover but weren't sure.Fun game though. TTSim is kinda cancer to use (norf player had to use Jaeger minis because his models kept falling through the table) but I already got physical minis and friends to play with irl so s'cool.
>>98307934One idea I had for the setting was>vampires rule the land>humans, not wanting to be food, revolt and establish walled cities>vampires build vile Corpse Titans to beat walls>humans build mechs to beat Corpse Titans to death, first powered by the labor of rowers, and later by steam>mechs proliferate>some baronies collaborate with the vampires>mercs with mechs aboundI was thinking "how would I make Battletech gothic?"
>>98247829Battle Century G is fun but simple.
>>98309799Flamethrower>>98308497Don't think there's place to think about 'hard-counters' to things like starter demo games. It's just a basic combat group.>>98310707Winning is about scoring Victory Points thru objectives. At the end of the 4th round you compare the amount of VPs gained. As for cover, look at the silhouette +Cover page in the rules book. It explains it pretty simply. Basically, if you can only see parts of the model's silhouette, it has partial cover (Can still be shot at, but gets cover bonus). Also, while that map is open, all that brush you were in would still constitute as partial cover. If you can't see any parts of it, you can only shoot at it indirectly. (Provided it's within sensor range)
>>98247791fellas I've just heard about this TTRPG called 'girl frame', it's apparently an 18+ pbta slop thing about lesbian pilots tearing eachothers (and monsters) apart. what's the vibe?
>>98300667Where are the commies in DP9 and the fandom? Are you sure you haven’t confused them with homos?
>>98319734Nucoal fans
>>98320131Nah all the communists in the fandom are Humanist ride or dies
>>98319510>18+>pbta>"""lesbian"""I'm getting 41% vibes.
>>98323073Yeah, I don't think if real lesbians made games they would put them out there for the general public. The entire community is basically in a permanent siege mentality. They think even being perceived by anyone with a Y chromosome is a violation of their bodily autonomy. Considering how every single lesbian space immediately gets overrun by hypersexual transbians, they may not be wrong.

>>98324863>y'all
lancer question: ll0, core book only, what should I pick to build a drone master?
>>98325482Drone commander talent and turret drones loadout, some Systems HASE. Go for Sagarmatha if you can (most consider it part of the core book), and do support stuff like lock on for your team, and drop turret drones, until you get access to some more of the drone stuff at higher LLs. Not too much you can do to flesh out that playstyle early on.
Does anyone here who plays Battle Century G have any experience with the optional attrition rules? Part of me is curious but I feel like certain builds would lose too bigly. Or that it would be too big of a pain to keep track of. I suppose I should also ask, are attrition rules fun for the players? This isn't even exclusive to BCG but in general. I know I might find enjoyment if it were md but my players probably would just get frustrated.
>>98324863>fellas what's the vibe >gets the vibe from the fellas >no not like that! lol
>>98320714Humanists are in nucoalAlso that's really unfortunate to hear, I've actually come around to liking the humanists. I'm going to assume they actually like humanist society and don't play them because they're evil?
>>98329139>fellas what's the vibe>[rentfree trannies rant]might be naive, but I expected better
>>98329478>ask for opinions entirely based on feelings >get those>get salty about it You're fucking stupid.
Quick Mekton question. Does it have rules for planes (or well, a mech transformed into a plane)? I'm doing something and I want references for playable jet planes in a ttrpg.
>>98329572>vibe = feelings>not impressionsSounds like that makes two of us then.
>>98330289Impressions are feelings. Open a fucking dictionary.
>>98329191No, on that last one, that's why you play the SRA. Or MILICIA on a suicide mission.
How permissive are people with extended contend stuff for blitz?
>>98330919Extremely. Worth it to just ask beforehand tho.
Ran a test session of Heavy Gear 4e today. We're still getting a feel for the game so we've not actually started yet beyond learning how the game plays properly, but I did run into something funny. We're playing Badlands mercenarios and thus playing restricted to salvaged Gears. The two players are a WFP country bumpkin outcast in a Wildcat and a UMF pretty girl engineer in a Bearhunter. I allowed them five PL1 pieces of equipment, and Pretty Girl got herself an Armored Jacket for her Bearhunter, resulting in an Armor 6 Hull Integrity 10 beast. How do I present enemies that are a reasonable threat to that, that don't just also delete the Wildcat which is only Armor 4 Hull Integrity 6?
>>98323855nice, thx for sharing
>>98332891Shouldn't you have started 'em off with PL1 Gears to begin with? Wildcat and Bearhunter are 2 and 3 respectively.A Bearhunter is naturally a tankier one, and the armored jacket takes it further. Stands to reason it'd be beefy. That said .. maybe a good opponent would be a classic 'Big opponent, several light goons' setup? Wildcat would have to try and focus on the lighter ones while staying out of sights of the big guy.
>>98334586Armor 7 on the Bearhunter still isn't *that* crazy, btw. It's just slightly more 'HP' on the Gear. A standard Autocannon or rocket pack can punch a hole in these relatively easy.
>>98334586Salvaging downgrades a Gear's PL by 2.
>>98330557>You see G.R.E.Ls have a set number of bullets, knowing their weakness I sent wave after wave of MILICIA conscripts at them until they ran out
>>98335896Ahhh true. Well in that case, yeah it's an Armor-6 fella. And it's even less of a thing to worry about, balance wise. Having some extra HP won't help that much - it'll just soak one extra hit or two before being taken down.
