You’d have very different views and priorities at such a zenith of power. One of my high level wizard NPCs fell into a deep depression after becoming immortal, for reasons unknown. He has great power but no longer has the motivation to use it. He has seen the afterlife and there are no mysteries left to him. Everything is submerged in ennui and loneliness.

They didn't reach high level by being retarded enough to try constant world-shaking intervention on a personal level. They are in-character. Wise old men with mystic powers keenly aware teleporting into the evil lord's keep might get them hit in the head from behind by a terrified cook with a frying pan.
