ANOTHER MECHWARRIOR GAME!

When the Clans invaded Terra in 3151 in their final bid to bring down the Republic of the Sphere, they found that the RAF had dug in around numerous "Redoubts" that had been constructed across the planet with the intent of tying up, and bleeding, the invaders. If the Clans wanted to claim the cradle of Mankind, they would have to destroy these redoubts and defeat the vast Republic garrisons within.
This grinding, brutal method of siege warfare was something the Clans were ill-suited to, but they hurled themselves against the walls of these mighty fortresses with the zealous enthusiasm only the children of Kerensky could muster.
For weeks, the Jade Falcons have been besieging Redoubt Chicago. It was the next step of their march towards conquering North America, and the Chinggis Khan herself had ordered it taken. With the Falcon's orbital WarShip support lost following the sacrifice of Republic Admiral Labbé and his fleet, the Clanners lost the option to simply class Chicago and were left no option but to seize the Redoubt on foot, hurling their warriors against the guns of the fortress time and time again.
The Falcon settled in for a long siege, and brought up numerous artillery assets from the rear of their lines to pound the walls of the redoubt. After days, then weeks, of ceaseless shelling, the walls are finally starting to give. The Republic's engineers need time to reinforce and strengthen the walls but they cannot operate under the constant bombardment. Thus, Knight Keller and his faithful warriors ride out. Using hidden passages and secret tunnels that snake out from below Redoubt Chicago, the RAF forces move behind the Jade Falcons and slam into their back lines, smashing through the rear-most defenders and battling to the artillery emplacements. If they can silence even a few of the guns, it will give the work crews time to shore up the defences of Redoubt Chicago. They cannot fail, the redoubt cannot fall. It will not fall.

Republic objective was to destroy 3 of the 5 artillery emplacements (represented by the Towed Thunder Launchers) currently hammering Chicago. The Falcons had to either destroy two of my vehicles and the Gambit, or kill Knight Keller in the Cougar to break the morale of the attacking RAF.
>>
>So the future of Anti-Clanner warfare for the Draconis Combine will be a 25 ton melee mech built around getting overheated.
Does this honor the dragon?

My Angerona Battle Armor formation did well, moving through the battle quickly and putting enough damage onto the second emplacement to allow my Gambit to finish it off, thanks to its Pulse Special Equipment.
However, this is when I lost the game. Pounding from where it hid amid the small military base near the middle of the board, the Ursa hit Keller hard, putting enough damage onto the Knight to lay him low, his cockpit smashed and his mech a smoking ruin.
With the loss of their commanding officer, the hero they had fought alongside since the siege began, the RAF routed, falling back via hidden paths away from the Jade Falcons who pursued them, having only destroyed two of the emplacements. Redoubt Chicago's walls would come down, the fortress would fall, nothing could stop that now.
So close to victory, yet so far!

I'm planning out my Ilclan-era army. Going to be playing SLDF. I'm thinking of having the bulk of my SLDF be Inner Sphere mechs, laid out in Lances, with a single Star of Clan Omnimechs painted up as either Smoke Jaguars, Jade Falcons or Snow Ravens, acting in support/serving as the elite core of the force. I'm going to have a single Clan Wolf warrior leading them, piloting something powerful like a Timber Wolf, Dire Wolf or Warhawk.
So basically:
Bulk of force is SLDF soldiers.
Single Star of elite Clan Warriors acting in support.
Single Clan Wolf mech piloted by the overall commander/leader of the force.
I think this'll work and be fairly interesting.
However, I'm struggling with two things. I'm trying to decide between making my Clan Star Smoke Jaguars or Snow Ravens (They won't be Jade Falcons as I want their colours to stick out against the green of the SLDF) and I haven't settled on a fluffy reason for my SLDF containing Protomechs and I WILL have Protomechs.
I'm thinking they're Snow Raven Freeborn who have been rolled into the SLDF and given Protomechs as they're the natural born children of Trueborn Aerospace Phenotype Snow Ravens, or that they're Hell's Horses Protomechs who refused to acknowledge Alaric as IlKhan and the rule of the new Third Star League, fought back, were defeated and conscripted into the SLDF.

Here's a very rough example of my army idea:

SLDF Lance
Clan Snow Raven Protomech Point
Clan Wolf Warrior in command of the overall force in the Warhawk

I think this'd be a fun little project to work on and it'd be nice to have a fluffy force to use in the IlClan-era games we're doing.

Opinions, anons?

The Archer 2-R is massively out of place, even in a star league lance. I don't know enough about alpha strike to know how easy it is to shake a couple more points loose for a royal or one of the RoTS variants.
>>
In lore, do foot infantry auto-loose to battle armor infantry, or can they fight back in some capacity? I'd imagine that enough infantry lasers would cook through the armor, and the support lasers and man-portable srms should also be able to crack them open.

Each elemental can take ~20 long bursts of rifle fire. This is a lot when they are moving down a bunker or space ship hallway and not very many when they are charging across an open field. The elementals know this, and act accordingly.

I like it in concept. Not sure I like the idea of different colour schemes in one army on the tabletop, but in terms of fluff it's neat. Go for it, if it renders joy onto you.

It's actually my favourite game right now and my go-to Big Stompy Robot game. It does everything I like, and I think it approaches the combined arms method of war involving mechs, tanks, infantry and flyers in a really interesting and cool way. I'm just annoyed I avoided it for so many years lol

... The Black Adder!
Starring in... The Scorpion! [1/4]

Fade in on a dingy, rust-streaked prefab hut on the outskirts of a muddy spaceport on the planet Lower Mudlark, Periphery backwater. Rain lashes the corrugated roof. Inside, EDMUND BLACKADDER, third son of some minor noble house that no one remembers, slouches in a threadbare velvet chair that has seen better centuries. He wears a mismatched uniform that tries (and fails) to look aristocratic. His face is the picture of aristocratic suffering.
BLACKADDER: (staring morosely at a cracked viewscreen showing nothing but static and the occasional goat) Baldrick, remind me again why the universe hates me with the fiery passion of a thousand suns.
BALDRICK: (cheerfully stirring something that might be soup or industrial sludge in a pot) Because you're a noble, my lord?
BLACKADDER: Correct. A low-ranking noble. The sort of noble they send to planets where the main exports are regret and foot rot. I was supposed to be conquering stars, Baldrick. Instead I’m stuck on a rock that smells like wet socks and broken dreams. If I don’t get off this miserable ball of mud soon, I shall be forced to start talking to the local livestock. And they’re terrible conversationalists.
BALDRICK: Well, I’ve got a cunning plan, my lord!
BLACKADDER: (already wincing) Of course you have. And does this plan involve turnips, Baldrick?
BALDRICK: Only as emergency rations, my lord.
BLACKADDER: Marvelous. Proceed, before I lose the will to live.
BALDRICK: (beaming) We become mercenaries! Famous ones! Like the ones in the holovids. You’ll get a big shiny ‘Mech, we’ll win glorious battles, and soon every noble house in the Inner Sphere will be begging for Lord Blackadder and his faithful servant to come and... well, do whatever nobles do when they’re not complaining.
[1/4]
>>
>>98256674
BLACKADDER: Mercenaries? Baldrick, I have all the combat experience of a depressed house cat. And more importantly, I don’t have a ‘Mech. One generally needs several hundred tons of walking death to qualify for that particular line of work. Unless you plan on us charging the enemy on foot while waving my grandfather’s dueling cane.
BALDRICK: Ah, but that’s the beauty of it! I’ve already acquired you a mech m'lord. A Scorpion!
BLACKADDER: (suddenly interested) A Scorpion? The 55-ton medium ‘Mech? Quad-legged, packed with LRMs, fast enough to outmaneuver most heavies? Baldrick, you magnificent, malodorous genius! I can see it now — Lord Edmund Blackadder, piloting a sleek mechanical arachnid of noble vengeance across the battlefield. The ladies will swoon. The enemy will soil themselves. Even my wretched family might finally acknowledge my existence.
BALDRICK: Exactly, my lord! I knew you’d like it. Cost me three goats and my best pair of socks, but I got it for you.
BLACKADDER: (standing, suddenly animated) Then what are we waiting for? Show me my new steed of war! Let us go forth and make the universe tremble before the name Blackadder!
Cut to the muddy "vehicle pool" behind the hut. A tarp is dramatically pulled back by Baldrick, revealing a battered, rust-streaked Scorpion... Light Tank; tracks instead of legs, and a turret that looks like it was drunkenly welded on after losing a bet. The whole thing is dripping with what might be oil or despair.
BLACKADDER: (long, icy silence) Baldrick.
BALDRICK: Yes, my lord?
BLACKADDER: This is a tank.
BALDRICK: It’s a Scorpion, my lord! Just like I said.
BLACKADDER: It has treads, Baldrick. ‘Mechs have legs. Legs! You know, the things that go up and down and make one look imposing rather than like a depressed tractor.
[2/4]
>>
>>98256688
BALDRICK: Well, it’s got six of them if you count the little wheels inside the tracks, my lord.
BLACKADDER: (circling the tank, voice rising) I asked for a BattleMech. A glorious, towering instrument of noble destruction. What you have procured is a metal biscuit tin with delusions of adequacy. I could achieve more battlefield glory by strapping knives to a particularly angry chicken.
BALDRICK: That's just part of my cunning plan my Lord.
BLACKADDER: Baldrick, a cunning plan out here in the periphery is to put three circles in a row on the tic-tac-toe board.
BALDRICK: That's a great idea m'lord! I'm going to remember that at next week's game! I've been staying up late practicing for it.
BLACKADDER: Of course you have. Now tell me your plan before I put a tac in your toe for ticking me off!
BALDRICK: We paint it black, stick a big adder on the side, and charge the enemy while shouting "Have at you!" They’ll never see it coming. Mostly because the targeting computer is older than your grandmother.
BLACKADDER: Baldrick, if we charge the enemy in this thing, the only thing they won’t see coming is how quickly we become a smoking crater. This vehicle is so old it probably fought in the First Succession War. On the losing side.
BALDRICK: (patting the tank affectionately) She’s got character, my lord. And look — it’s got a machine gun! That’s almost like a ‘Mech weapon.
BLACKADDER: (climbing up and sitting glumly on the turret) Yes. A machine gun. Truly I have ascended to the pinnacle of military greatness. Lord Edmund Blackadder, Mercenary Extraordinaire, Commander of the Mighty Scorpion... Tank. The enemy will quake in their boots. Or at least laugh themselves to death.
BALDRICK: So we’re taking it then?
[3/4]
>>
>>98256694
BLACKADDER: (sighing the sigh of a thousand disappointed ancestors) Against every instinct of self-preservation I possess, yes. Fire up this mechanical embarrassment, Baldrick. I'm already regretting internal combustion engines ever being invented
BALDRICK: (climbing in) Don’t worry, my lord. If this doesn’t work, I’ve got another cunning backup plan we can use instead!
BLACKADDER: Two in a single day? Your braincell must have been working overtime.
BALDRICK: Thank you m'lord! My other plan is that we just stay here and do... nothing. We'll just stay here for the next 100 years, until we die peacefully at and old age. Together.
BLACKADDER: (Quickly climbs on to the Scorpion Tank) Well that is surely a fate worse than any we could encounter on the battlefield. Let us go forth immediately Baldrick and... probably die horribly. Heaven preserve us. Drive on, before I realize what I'm doing and change my mind.
The Scorpion’s engine coughs, splutters, and finally roars to life with all the grace of a dying walrus. They lurch forward into the mud.
BLACKADDER: (shouting over the noise) Baldrick, if we survive this, remind me to have you beaten! With affection, of course.
BALDRICK: Yes my lord!

Building a post-Clan Invasion mercenary force using the Campaign Operations rules. The company is loosely intimidating the Clan stars but is using a more combined arms approach because they can't quite afford to go all-out on Mechs alone.

Currently setup as:
Battle Lance
>Warhammer WHM-7M
>Wraith TR-1
>Centurion CN9-D
>Manitcore Heavy Tank (3055 Upgrade)
>Manitcore Heavy Tank (3055 Upgrade)

Scout Lance
>Phoenix Hawk PXH-3M
>Wasp WSP-3M
>Locust LCT-3S
>Warrior Attack Helicopter H-8
>Warrior Attack Helicopter H-8

Is there something in particular I should target for the next lance, or something I should do to adjust these for a better setup for their role? It's not even really half my budget at this point, but I feel like if I want to address problems, it should be done now, rather than when I'm running low on funds and having spent said stuff on larp forces for security/garrison and engineering forces.

I'm toying with the idea that the primary financier is someone with enough money to fund the company's creation and has a lot of connections that help them get some pretty new mechs, but they also have opinions on warfare.

They think the 5 unit Clan Stars is the absolute best for offense because of the superficial "look how much territory they took up there". The Clans being beaten at Tukayyid made them develop the opinion that while 5s/Stars is the best for offense, 6s/Level IIs is the best for defense.

The company begrudgingly deals with it because outside of that thing, they don't really fuck with anything else and they're really good at negotiating contracts that are relatively low risk but highly paying.

>I'm toying with the idea that the primary financier is someone with enough money to fund the company's creation and has a lot of connections that help them get some pretty new mechs, but they also have opinions on warfare.

The religious elements of Comstar did head off into the Free Worlds League initially in the wake of the schism, so that could easily work as another layer to them. Does also mean that I could aim to build it out to a Level III for the force as a whole - if the budget holds. Not sure what they would all be, as the current mental list I have is these five:
>Battle/Command
>Scout
>Aerospace
>Security
>Engineering/Support
>>
>>98259050
Artillery.
>>
>>98259050
A BA force might also be something to consider in addition to artillery. A mixed level II is not uncommon and far more common post Tukayyid so could be a running theme of trying to mix different forces together.

Might do a 2/2/2 of Battle Armor/Battle Armor Transport/Artillery.
It'd be a low infantry count if that was all the infantry, but I'm thinking of having the Security portion include 2 Motorized or Hover and Engneering to include 2 Mechanized.
Former because you need someone to man checkpoints and the like, while the latter is because sometimes the solution needed to do some stuff is a bunch of people.
Those two parts of the unit are mainly for backline larp, so don't need be all too strong.

Slowly painting my way back through my collection of Snow Ravens; I’ve improved on my technique a lot since I started these guys a couple years back, and I wanted to bring them up to par with my recent work. I’m about 80% of the way done, will post the whole group when I’m finished.
>>
>>98259303
Lovely stuff, did you sponge the edges?

My omen torso failed to print :(
>>
>>98259303
Dude shit that’s how I should have done my half complete Snow Ravens. I think I’ll be repainting them.
>>
>>98259382
Yes, I’ve picked up sponge painting since I first did these and I like that it gives me the ability to create some more exaggerated highlights. I’m sure an airbrush does even better, but I’m working with what I’ve got.

Bummer about the Omen torso. Hopefully it comes out OK on the next print.

You know, imperialism is spheroid behavior. The people and territory of the inner sphere should be used to create new clans, not to expand the holdings of existing ones.

Why do SRM2 and LRM5 even exist? feels useless, even a death trap
>>
>>98259872
SRM2 used to be the only launcher aside from SSRM2 that could fire infernos.
LRM5 is the most weight efficient of the LRM launchers. 2xLRM5's weigh one ton less than an LRM10 and 4xLRM5's weigh less than an LRM20.

We pretty much repeat this every thread.
>>
>>98259899
Two SRM2s can spend a ton of ammo reasonably efficiently while giving a bit of redundancy over a 4. Their actual issue is how many variants just slap on a single SRM2 that'll never spend its 50 shots before taking an ammo crit.

I wish resolving missile attacks didn't take such a long time.

Just use a Box of Death. One of those pill boxes, got some small D6s and you are done. It also helps you to learn the hit table when you are a noob.

LBX20 is the same as a LRM20 and way less common.
>>
>>98259936
I don't even use a dice box, I just have a lot of regular dice. It takes my opponent longer to record a single hit location than it does for me to read it out, so I don't care to make a dice box. Rolling 10 sets of dice at a time and arranging them isn't really that time consuming, and I really don't run large HAGs enough for it to become tedious. I don't really understand why it's such an issue.
>>
>>98260032
LRM hits in groups of 5, LBX hits in groups of 1

Good god man, have you been treating every LRM missile as its own cluster roll? How often do your mechs die to TACs and pilot damage from head hits?

no
Nice paint scheme though. Little rough, but I like it.
>>
>>98260356
Thanks broski. It's a bit wip, missing the gold still. Ilclan is what most of my playgroup focuses on but I guess most of those mechs exist in 3025 as well so it's NBD to make another company by shifting the mechs around a little and replacing the wraith with the king crab I also have painted

Holy shit, mechwarrior anon is still going?
>>
>>98260032
if that 'mech is supposed to be 100 feet tall, then those are some giant blades of grass
>>
>>98260497
That mech should be somewhere between like 14 and 18 meters, so that's something like elephant grass.
>>
>>98259918
I think most, if not all, ammo containers would benefit from having half-sizes. Rounding down, of course.

So literally the only battle suits in use by the Clans during the Clan Invasion (3049 - 3052) was Elemental Battle Armor? There's literally no fluffy Smoke Jaguars BA I can bring in my force because there's only Elemental BA in that era? Lame and gay.

Sex with bondsman.
Is it allowed?
If my Clan Wolf OC fucks the Republic Knight he defeated and took as a bondsman on Terra will this cause issues within the Clan?
>>
>>98260895
Who cares
My FWL OC just blew your fag wolf OC’s head off and sold his remains to periphery pirates to do with what they please
>>
>>98260934
Nuh uh! My OC has an Everything Proof Shield, so there!
>>
>>98260814
>So literally the only battle suits in use by the Clans during the Clan Invasion (3049 - 3052) was Elemental Battle Armor?
*That we know of
They can always go back and retroactively add suits in, like the Rhino or Nighthawk.
>>
>>98259899
Arc-2r with 8lrm5 instead of 2lrm20 saves 4 tonnes. Which can be spent on more heat sinks, armour, or ammo bins.
>>
>>98260895
The clans consider sex to be a form of light entertainment akin to playing cards or watching TV or something. If you have to force someone to do it with you that's extremely embarrassing. Embarrassing your unit, bloodline or country can get you dead, especially if you don't have any friends.
>>
>>98260976
And if said warrior and knight are in love? Trwe wuve!
>>
>>98260991
Then it's fine, just like it's fine to invite the trainee/new transfer to the barracks card game.
