This board is more dead than usual.
TqI bet a lot of 40k threads will be made about the reveals. Then the ai bot(s) prowling this board will demand models.I’ll be correct.
I ordered the Farsight Battleforce. God save my soul.
>Proper orks hate Deathskulls for taking things without fighting>Proper orks hate Bad Moons for being rich assholes>Proper orks hate Goffs for being too serious>Proper orks hate Blood Axes for being too humie>Proper orks hate Snakebites for not using explosives and loud gunsThe only true Orks are the Evil Suns.
The greatest 40k plot twist is the Primarchs were created to fuck Xenos and subjugate them. Guilliman will fuck the Eldar. Khan will fuck DEldar. Vulkan will take Ork WAAAG power inside him and become a Primeork by dicking them into submission. Manus' hands will turn out to be Necrodermis and he will return to violate the Necrons with their own metal. Just wait until the Genestealers infect the wrong Primarch who rapes them into submission and then dicks a whole Hive Fleet by himself.
>>98262240Propa Orks 'ate Evil Sunz 'cause they refuse to use the legs Gork n Mork gave 'em to run to the fight
>>98262216>Place your bets on today's revealsPreviews of Codex Space Marines. We officially learn that Oath of Moment is gone and Combat Doctrines return as the Space Marine faction rule. Nothing else is shown for 40K.

I have an idea for a squat League who are on an eternal "workcation", once a force of devoted miners in the cold mountains of their homeworld now sent on a centuries long journey to take a break by their ancestor core. Though they do take their time to relax in beautiful paradise worlds and have a margarita, their innate desire to get that spacebread usually cuts such endeavors short. They have hawaiian print armor that's it that's the joke they're all wearing stupid hawaiian shirts
>>98262216>TQSpace marines.
>>98262288Joke paint schemes are cringe because you are basically repeating the same exact joke every time you show them to someone.
>>98262275Rumor has it that chaos gets shafted for the first six codices. I think probably tau, nids, or a chapter for the first three.Admech get one of the last books because they get a new wave
>>98262291Anon are you a wizard able to see into the future and come back with accurate predictions? Will Henry Cavil’s Warhammer Amazon show make wh40k as popular as LOTR when the movies were coming out? Or Harry Potter back in it’s prime or even GOT?
>>98262226I just received mine in the mail, still haven't finished my combat patrol ecksdee elemayo. Getting into the hobby, I tried to promise myself that I'd build before buying new sets but I fomo'd the twin lance at the end of the edition and am sitting on nearly 1k points of in-box kits
>>98262299let me think HRRNGNNGNGIt will be popular among normies and casual fans but dedicated nerds will be frustrated by how safey the grimdarkness is and the minor lore inconsistencies needed to make the story function. The ost is the most nothingburger church choir AAAAOOOOOAAAA and Cavil removes his helmet at least twice each episode and somehow never gets shot in the head. But he does get a chest wound and you're baited into thinking he dies or gets interred into a dreadnought but he's ok :)40k will never surpass LOTR
>>98262295If Tau get a new codex this early in the edition I'm gonna shit myself, we better get more fucking detachments bc I'm really not looking forward to three decent options on 2k points.

Should I buy 4 more sagitaurs? They seem like they're going to be insane in this new edition for their price. And I love the stupid little model so much.
>>98262310How do I get this power to see into the future?I need to predict stocks and not get financially bootyblasted by the Bogdanoffs. That way I can buy games workshop and then do nothing with the settings as I make Bandai make the plastics. And indulge in my gluttonous love of smoked oysters in sunflower oil.
>>98262275First codexes will be Orks and Blood Angels, with a marine index launching with them. Then it will be Tau and custodes, with every release after being a non-power armor book releasing alongside a power armor book.
Does all matte acrylic have this texture? If so, how do high level painters get such smooth looking models?
>>98262288It's funny but you'll probably hate yourself by the time you paint your 5th guy like that.
>>98262318Don't anon. Foreknowledge like the ability to predict Disney will buy LucasArts through witnessing Kingdom Hearts is a terrifying ability.
>Mek Gunz are 45 points each>Cost $60 for one, $180 for a squad of 3I know there's probably units with a worse points per model cost, but fucking damn.
>>98262310>>98262318 (me)>ost church choir nothingburgerNot gonna lie I wonder what other themes of music fit in the 40k’s themes and aesthetics at least for the imperial stuff.I talked about how a rendition of “what a wonderful world” would work for the guard.>https://archive.4plebs.org/tg/thread/98241229/#98242774I’d imagine maybe industrial music would work for forgeworlds, mechanicus and underhives no need for choirs.I remember watching the angels of death wh+ animations pirated with lads and the mechanicus woman had generic electronic ambience as her theme.I swear I think the same voice actor was used for that cranky tech priest in darktide.Anyways that animation was oddly inspirational from how unprofessional it looked. If it was a fan animation I’d be singing all the praises for it and downplaying it’s problems.
>>98262331I guess ignorance truly is bliss dear anon.In this case ineptitude in magical abilities is freedom from the burdens of dark knowledge.I hope you don’t lose your sanity as you witness future autisms from Black Library writers as they pump out more 40k books.

>>98262226>god save my soulI’ll make you feel better about yourself as I’ve been more retarded.>bought loads of reaper models as practice minis >bought mantic dwarfs as I like them>had a sudden old good new bad and bought cadian defense force box when kneepads were coming>relapsing into fake groggery again with wanting old school looking metal or resin models>unironically looking at wargames foundry ex-citadel models with envious eyes and might buy copies for scan archivalThe practice models was a mistake. If I messed up I never improved because it was just a practice model so I never pushed myself and the painting wasn’t fun because I wanted to paint warhammer stuff the whole time.Hopefully you’ll feel better now.
Anyone played custodes in the 11th? How are they? I haven't played mine since the 9th. Thinking about dusting them off. What to take? I used to run a bunch of guards because I like blobs of infantry.
>>98262226I bought last year's CSM battleforce, the Iron Warriors Combat Patrol, the CSM Combat Patrol magazines, Kravek Morne, and a bunch of 30k marines/terminators to kitbash with. Of all that, the only stuff I got built/primed are Kravek, a Warpsmith, a kitbashed Sorcerer Terminator, the Rhino, the Obliterators and Venomcrawler, 10 Cataphractii Terminators, and a few Legionaries.

>>98262398Yes I am that silly anon who dared to like some of mantic’s models.
What is yalls "proudest" victory you have ever had playing 40k. I once won a game playing imperial guard despite suffering a 99.3% casualty rate.I deployed literally just over 100 infantry models and handful of tanks.I won the match with literally a single model still on the table, and this was back when getting tabled was an automatic loss.
You guys look like THIS?
>>98262404My brother. We are united in our taste.
>>98262404I should also mention I used to believe in exclusivity and fomo if it helps companies survive until I got really into 3d printing and realized everything like miniatures should be autistically archived.Especially after discovering Momminiatures started to re-release their dwarf models into stl form. I think that is when I started to see the light. Now I understand why warhammer 40k stl collectors fill up their drives so quickly. To them the piracy app gw is aware of is always under threat of burning down so everyone just grabs everything to archive it and will reorganize their downloads later.>>98262408>painted terrain at an lgs for a 40k gameAlright I’ve finally seen enough for tonight. There is hope for terrain painters now or gw made some tournament rules like the painting needing to be done on 40k models or command points are lost.

Hey does feel like it could exist in 40k? I'm writing a book inspired by Tyranids and Dark Eldar. A weight and shift of movement was felt of on the front of our head. A feeling object that was slowly sliding out, leaving behind a small trickle. A cylindrical object with a thin metal pin tumbled before our view. A syringe. Blue welled up, ran warm and wet down our face. Landing in and pooling our wide-open mandibles. Spread uncomfortably wide. Unintentionally forcing us to taste our own blood.Death enveloped us like a thick miasma . It restrained us. Every observable direction it was there. No freedom. Just the taste of entrapment. The hollow of an inevitable fate yet to befall. Mind flashes. Light stings behind eyes. Strange symbols burn. Images and patterns crash into our head. Mind in a white-hot migraine. Meaningless.[Insert text saying that the stat sheet of the tyrsect, along with the fact mouse brain as well as a neural implant was inserted into it's brain.]The tyrsect drone twitched as its body tried to cope with the foreign information that flooded its system. As the blue flash of random fades, peace settles. Pain now a dim memory. Patterns forgotten like a dream. Its then stirs back to life as soft hands approach and brush an antenna. Curious fingers prod mandible, trace acid ducts. Warm putrid but oddly sweet breath was felt. Then mocking chuckle. “Look at them. Already waking up from their first system bootup. I thought you'd be more resilient to mental straining, what with your 'songs'.”Paws squeeze carapace. A grope here. A test there. But a probing thumb smearing itself over a eye cluster causes a short growl to rip free from the xenos.

I'm 6'4 and work out and do martial arts plus I eat healthy so I'm pretty fit. I'm also cleanshaven and have a typical well kept short men's hairstyle with thick hair. My store is lucky that the crowd is mostly pretty normal looking. We have plenty of overweight people but nothing too outrageous, and most people don't smell noticeably bad, but occasionally I do catch some B.O. but nothing like in the horror stories.I have noticed a correlation between people who have their personal appearance together, and their army together. As in, people who are fit and tidy will also often have no unpainted models. I'm sure it's simply a matter of discipline. You only get fat or you only let yourself get smelly/greasy if you're undisciplined, so naturally the same sort of people would let their army be naked.I have also noticed a correlation between sportsmanship and fitness. Myself and the other core regulars all have excellent sportsmanship. We remind our opponents of their beneficial rules, we are never the ones rules-lawyering, we allow takebacks as long as it's the same phase and no dice have been rolled, our lists are generally competitive but not the expense of flavor and we don't skew, we're happy to slow down and explain for new players, all those sorts of things. Whenever I see someone who is trying to game the system or trying to rules-lawyer, they're always unfit. The fattest regular is also the only person I have ever seen try to tell his mtg opponent that the opponent can't tap and untap his lands while he was thinking to himself, idly with his hands, before any spells had even been announced. He tried to make him locked into the first absentminded tapping that didn't even pay for the spell he later announced. It's literally not a rule but he was being insistent. He's also the only one I've ever seen sigh and roll his eyes when his opponent said he was new and to take things slow. Just as a few examples.
>>98262556There is no such thing as an agreed upon optimal ratio because the only reason to play a wraiths list is to fuck around.
Me? 6ft 4in fat neckbeard. No deodorant, no shampoo, no showers. One tshirt and one pair of undies a week (you don’t need more). My putrid aura throws my opponents off. Thank you papa nurgle.
>>98262584We've had TCG regulars at my LGS who got into warhammer, and battletech, and conquest, and the ones who really got into the hobby side of wargaming started working out, grooming themselves better, dressing better. I think mini painting and wargaming is a really transformative hobby for a lot of these nerds.
>>98262585>the only reason to play a wraiths list is to fuck around.well it looks like im gonna be on the finding out end of fucking around then. i think i'll go 3 units of each for the blades/guard
>>98262326Pros often use many thin coats. One thick coat will often look like shit with any brand. That being said I tend to get more texture (and different texture) with PA than AK or VMC.>>98262442I'DFWhat's the 40k equivalent of Palestinians?
>>98262601Your paint, sir, may I suggest 8 or 9 bottles.
>>98262610>What's the 40k equivalent of Palestinians?Your average Imperial citizen.
>>98262584Bad sportsmanship tends to be more common with people who invest emotionally in the game, because they don't have much else. Or they use the game to prove themselves. With decent health, looks and social life it's easier to dismiss a game as just a game, and treat your opponent politely.
>>98262515thanks! i got a little burnt out on painting yellow at the veeeeeery end but i enjoyed the project as a whole
>>98262601Wraithlord is one of the most fun kits I've ever built. So simple and perfect. Takes paint great too. God I wish GW weren't so evil and greedy. I just can't justify buying their kits more often with how bad the value is for the consumer (rules, game, price, availability, everything, etc)
>>98262240Was thinking this the other day but more in terms of painting schemes with the only real colour schemes for Orks being Goffs or Evil Sunz.
>>98262628i use trolltrader. you get a decent discount for stuff because its like "out of box" or whatever, and i get to buy it at the actual british pound to usd conversion rate rather than the arbitrary markup GW charges for foreign countries. and flat $10 shipping no matter how big the order is. been using them for years. was actually insane a few years back when the pound tanked, i was getting armies for like 70% off of US msrp

>>98262391Noice, I like the colors
>>98262649>>98262628only thing i'll add to that though is that its apparently not worth it for EU because they get fucked over on some kind of VAT tax we dont have in the US. i dont know how much it is but i've heard its a hefty percentage that totally blows out any potential savings. but for people in the US, you can save a lot of money that way. also i heard they ship to AUS but i cant confirm personally

>>98262340Angels of death is excellent, it masks its deficient animation as an art style, and it works very well. What's comically bad is the sound design. Lots of action scenes packed with only voices and weird sounding bolters.I really liked it as an indie series, and the story is quite ok compared to the absolute trash that is most of the animated series Bolter and whatever

>>98262678Nah, the models are good and you can piecemeal sell the extra rulebook and stuff you don't want. people are doing that a lot right now.and it's good to support your local store. a lot of people shop online and then wonder why game stores either close, or start charging for tables. I buy random stuff I don't really "need" like collectors edition books or hardcover books just to buy something sometimes when I'm in.

>>98262682Ive been around and was cool with the last store manager and we used to talk about how I agreed it was a little messed up to buy everything online or somewhere else and still use the GW store to play without ever buying anything there. This was before we had an FLGS and we talked about how if no one was buying in store eventually there was not going to be a store to play at. Back then alot of people really likes the manager so about 90% would purchase in store almost always. Now the new crop of people who go there just point blank tell the new manager to his face they bought their armageddon box somewhere else or online. Alot of the loyal customers migrated to the FLGS because the only manager opened it. I also talked about the same people who didn't buy anything were always the one bitching about shit and I saw it alot first hand since I was in there painting so often. As for the POS she just wasnt used to a non visa card and was struggling to input that I paid the amount with an amex. Eventually she got it. But she seemed panicked and told me it happened once before. >>98262686I was already thinking about it since I decided i actually did want a set of orks but I was going to wait awhile before I did. >>98262511Lovely clean work.Fuck GW for only making Vior'la transfers though Gimme some Sa'cea or Bork'an cowards!
All the Tau players I play with are dogshit at the game so I haven't experienced any suffering. How are they busted right now?
>>98262866Did you play 11th yet? The changes are very beneficial to tau.
wait so hidden doesnt mean jack shit because almost every deployment is on the long side of the table? or is there just not enough sufficiently obstructing terrain?
>>98262866Their best detachment combos really well with its disposition (purge) which is also just really good right now, and their army rule lets them ignore cover. Basically they didn't get hurt by the edition changes nearly as badly as other shooting armies did, and their disposition basically incentivizes them to run a big gun line and blow you off the table. In 10th they had to at least try to play the objective game, but purge lets them stack points off doing what they already want to do and they're really good at doing it.
>>98262882The official terrain layouts just don't have enough fully obscuring heavy terrain (read:L-shaped ruins) and every unit getting the old towering rule to shoot a ross just for toeing into a terrain feature makes massive shooting lanes everywhere on the maps.
>>98262882If you sit on the objective you're basically exposed now, plus you only need to touch the terrain to see through it now, meaning the maps are way more of a shooting galleries that you'd assume just looking at them.If you have a long range vehicle, like Riptide, and have it touch terrain in front of your deployment zone, suddenly it threatens 80% of the table.
>>98262882it doesn't effect most of the game, which is fine. helps units not be shot off the board turn 1, and late game scoring with actions.
>>98262885>>98262896>hidden does nothing>but toeing into terrain lets you see too muchThese two statements contradict each other. If your opponent just wants to toe in for LoS, they won't be able to see your hidden stuff because they'll be too far away, just touching terrain in your own territory won't get you close to see a hidden unit.
>>98262938>hidden does nothingNeither me nor the other anon said that. Hidden prevents you from being shot T1 but you need to step out to actually participate in the game.
>>98262954>if you sit on the objective you're basically exposed nowThat certainly looks to me like saying hidden does nothing, unless the word 'exposed' has completely changed its meaning.>If you have a long range vehicle, like Riptide, and have it touch terrain in front of your deployment zone, suddenly it threatens 80% of the table.Oh jeez, if only there was SOME way to HIDE your units from long range fire?
>>98262967>That certainly looks to me like saying hidden does nothingNo, it literally doesn't. Glad I could help. :)>Oh jeez, if only there was SOME way to HIDE your units from long range fire?Sure, but hidden only applies to infantry (and beasts) and all the models need to be fully within the terrain. Getting within hidden range on the current boards isn't exactly the hardest thing. It's a bonus for melee armies (who absolutely need it because the staging areas are fucked in new setups), but the main purpose of hidden is preventing the alpha strikes and it does that job well.
>>98262993>all the models need to be fully within the terrainYou don't even know the rules yet comment on them so certainly.
>>98262999You don't play the game at all and yet you comment on it so certainly.Maybe I made some semantic error but that's how it works, whatever.
>>98263005Ah, I said models need to fully within terrain, I meant all models in the unit need to be within/touching terrain. Touche I guess.
>>98263005No, not even. Hidden is checked per model, if you've been playing it per unit you've been playing it wrong. So a single model touching the terrain and the rest behind it is enough for a that model to gain hidden and the rest are safe.Regardless, it's extremely unlikely for an enemy unit to simply toe into terrain on their side of the board and still be within 15" (or more likely 12" as Go-to-ground is a rule as well) of something contesting the central or your home expansion objectives.
>>98262878Yeah, the players are just bad though
Is James retarded?>sell from their own stores at prices higher than third party>provide no extra value to account for that >get rid of hobby areas and game tables>only tables are for running demo games>nobody goes to James anymore because they charge more for no benefit???
>>98263015Yes. We do play that correctly. I admit, I misspoke, my bad.Hidden just correlates to visibility. If one model is not hidden and it gets shot the entire unit can still die. >Regardless, it's extremely unlikely for an enemy unit to simply toe into terrain on their side of the board and still be within 15" Again, not when it comes to vehicles, on some setups like search and destroy it's trivial to get within the hidden range of central objective as well. The argument started with Tau and why the new rules are good for them - they have a lot of cheapo shit to put in the middle and force the opponent to unhid themselves, opening them to a barrage. Riptides move 10' with fly so it's not hard for them to toe-in terrain in the middle to see-through, crisis suits' deep striking is improved by the fact that home objective has been de-emphasized and the deep strike no go zone went down to 8".
>>98262338I made 3 mek guns out of a single trukk kit 10 years ago and I refuse to use the new kit.
>>98262678Lmao simp.She has a boyfriend.
>>98263039Sooo... Hidden is good until the opponent forces you to come out of hiding? Wow, what a concept. Tau are good, there's no question about that, but they're not good because they ignore hidden or something, just that they get lots of cheap stuff, move fast and can ignore cover easily to deal lots of damage with their big guns (this is the same reason eldar are broken every edition, moving fast and hitting hard is a recipe for success in 40k and has been forever). But hidden can help you a lot against them, because if they can't force you out of hidden their big guns do need to come forward. Currently, I believe Tau are the best at the chaff game (as you say, they get a lot of cheapo shit) but that could change with just a few points nerfs that take away a unit or two from them and if they can't use cheap chaff to bait out important stuff as well, that also reduces the power of their big guns thanks to hidden. So the idea that hidden "does jack shit" or "if you sit on the objective you're basically exposed" is simply wrong. The opponent CAN attack you if you're on the objective, but they will not do so safely if you're hidden.

>nooo you can't only play imperial factions!>nooo buy some xenos models too!No.
>>98263091who are you quoting?
>>98263065I never once said that hidden "does jack shit".I just don't think it's a massive gamechanger or a some gigabuff to melee. It's a compensation for the new terrain rules.Hidden needed to exist BECAUSE the objectives are in the open effectively.I would bet money that in a few months they will get rid of the toe-in rule for the vehicles, it's incredibly abusive, not just for tau.

If you mean generic character units, then no, they're pretty good (though daemon prince is pretty vague, there's a big difference between a winged EC prince and a foot chaos daemons prince, for example) but I wouldn't call them the best. Just in CSM generic chaos lords have them beat (basically the same killing power for half the price in points) and then there's stuff like the SM combi-weapon lieutenant that's been a staple in literally every space marine list ever made since he got rules at the beginning of 10th.

>>98263242if you want to play corsairs, clowns, or corsairs and clowns together, stick to CWE. Deldar can play with those units but the codex doesn’t support them well.Deldar played with dark eldar is fun and surprisingly different from craftworld. now is a very very good time to buy orks, marines, or to a lesser extent deldar. Orks and Marines with the new box, but for deldar the “realspace raider” battleforce is a fine deal for $240-$250, and lots of their boxes are still $40
>>98263242My first advice would be clownsairs since they give you options with your existing army and are a cheaper investment than a whole new army while also making it cheaper to get into deldar if you wish (though Quins lack deldar synergy)
>>98263242Well, what do you like about Eldar in the first place? The speed? From this month's WD.These are the war zones that 11th ED will focus on. From Andy Clark's commentary on them, it seems that GW isn't going to resolve them. They are going to drag on these conflicts for years, possibly several editions before concluding them. Part 1/2
>>98263280Do any of these warzones interest you?Part 2.There is a tenth warzone mentioned only in passing in the Combat Patrol Companion book. It's on a Maiden World where bestial war cries of the hunt resound. That's a hint about Exodites for sure.

>>98263035They make most of their money selling to third party retailers even at <50% rrp. It's an excellent business model as it keeps stock moving out of their warehouses and they get paid up front rather than having dead product lines clogging up shelves. Warehousing is a higher cost to them than manufacturing. The model couldn't survive if GW's high street or online storefronts undercut their partners or offered too much secondary service. Why did people post directly contradictory takes regarding what happened in the show? Did he give up, or did the humans figure out how to beat him? Which is it?Honestly though, I think it's stupid either way. Humans beat eldar through overwhelming numbers, so if it was really like 2-4 pilots beating him then that's dumb. That, and Tau have naturally short lifespans and are likely to have less experience.Plus humans are probably playing on hard mode where Tau have AI flight computers.

He should win every fight up until humans reinforcements arrive, at which point he has to run away from the sheer numbers. That's how things typcially work and that keeps things fair. Edlar are superior to humans, but you better watch out once a thousand humans finally show up after you've had your fun for a while. This makes everyone happy and makes logical sense given what we are generally told about how the setting works.Several human pilots shouldn't beat an eldat pilot, and I don't even want to begin guessing what bullshit they mean by "humans figured out how to stop webway use".

They outshine the rest of the setting, too bad GW has never understood the absolute gem of design and lore they have in the eldar, and like 90 percent of the 40k fanbase are mouthbreathing retards that just want marinewank and hate xenos in general and eldar in particular for some wetbrained reasons that only make sense in the heads of sub 90iq imbeciles.

>>98263103That CP was a limited drop, it's not going to get reprinted, they didn't even bother to give it 11th edition rules.
I feel like Chaos makes no sense in the 40k universe. Honestly? Xenos and Space Marines fit well, they have their factions that are clearly opposed, makes sense to me... But weird demon things with chaos beasts and literal demons? My argument is simply that they feel tacked on.This is purely for the board game, lore wise, Chaos makes a lot more sense.
>>98263700Not canon>These skyborne warriors have learned to fly from their earliest days, their entire lives devoted to the absolute mastery of the pilot’s art. Most Tau team leaders and fighter aces have more experience than a whole squadron of other races’ pilots, all of which they turn to the pursuit of victory for the Tau’va.-Death from the Skies 7th ed
>>98263709A big issue is a lot of Chaos players are either just Daemon fans or just Marine fans and don’t embrace the chaos of their faction and want to mix.

>>98263709>My argument is simply that they feel tacked on.Because they are.Chaos as a whole was lazily stapled onto 40k in the latter half of Rogue Trader. Both the tabletop and even lore suffers from it now because chaosfags got into GW, took the reigns and have nose dived 40k to shit.
>>98263717Rules are not a representation of the canon.Commander Arra'kon has two repeated pulse pistols that he fights with outside his suit. When Tyranids boarded his ship, he used the guns to mow them down with deadly accuracy like some kind of sci-fi cowboy.

Four years of duty in the guard is considered an eternity. The Air Caste pilots train from the age of four and are given aircraft by the age of 8.Each promotion comes after four years of active duty and features a grueling test. An Vre rank flight lead would have at least two decades of combat experience.
>>98263610>>98263666You're posting crap that barely supports what you want to argueWatch this>superior depth perception >superior situational awareness >higher tolerance of acceleration >exceptional training >simulators grant near-perfect combat experience the explicit tradeoff being that while the average tau air caste pilot is superior to the average human pilot, the bell curve for other races is wider than it is taller which means they have more exceptionally experienced individuals cropping up here and there on occasions
>>98263716>>98263725Again, not bashing the lore, I just think that at the point that you add demons, add superheroes or mermaids, or even a group of squirrel people or something! >>98263725>The whole "Imperium is paranoid af" makes no sense if there would be no chaosIt was already a thing just fine before chaos got added to the setting.Genetic deviation can happen without chaos, alien hybridisation can happen without chaos, heretical movements can happen without chaos, either as techno heretical stuff, uprisings against the imperial hierarchy, or differing religious beliefs, or the worship of alien things.

>>98263769yeah, I honestly do think chaos being so prominent does fuck up any internal conflict the imperium can have. civil wars and rebellions happen all the time irl and its all very grounded. the existence of chaos fucks this all up because instead of it being something like racial, religious, economic divides its going to be le chaos 90% of the time.

>>98263787That appeals to the retarded manbabies that want to view the imperium as 100 percent justified in it's actions. If every rebellion etc is just due to chaos the setting doesn't actually have to involve narratives about how the Imperium itself is utterly dystopian and actively causing rebellions to occur due to how horrendously most people living in the imperium are treated by the imperial buerocracy and it's ruling classes.

Slaanesh isn’t just the god of pain and pleasure, they are the god of excess. Perfection, pleasure, pain, artistry, drugs, murder, love, repetition, collecting, gluttony etc.A slaaneshi worshipper is not necessarily always a BDSM gimp. It’s about going too far, going too far will drive you towards Slaanesh. Also, Eldar souls are suffering because She who thirsts collects the eternal souls in their own hatefuck torture battery to power them and because Slaanesh explicitly hates Eldar for denying them.In my opinion, Slaanesh is the most interesting Chaos god, right after Nurgle, then Tzeentch. Khorne is as flat and stupid as his self lobotomizing followers are.

>>98263992Funny thing is, Warmachine terrain worked kind of similar like 4th terrain. But one ended flat while the other didn't I'd say that warmachine ended that way because it cater to tournamentfags.

>>98263997They'd need to quintuple that in order to get a positive K/D ratio.
Speaking of old Eldar art, do you think with modern plastic injection molding and sculpting techniques that GW can make new Dark Eldar that actually look like the old art instead of the old thick rounded dull-edged blade armor?
>>98263809We have a rare pov
>>98263948I like what Firefight did with determining that stuff from a focal model. The old Dark Eldar looked extremely goofy whereas the redesign they got in the 00s made them among the best looking armies in the game.Kabalite warriors are propably my favorite troops in the game just in terms of how they look and the weapon options they have.
>>98264047Change for the sake of change to justify new purchases and thus their jobs
>>98264039i will say for the most part, the new models do a pretty good job representing that classic aesthetic, they did surprisingly well. im not the biggest fan of the fully covered rear gunner on the vyper but apart from that everything else has been a phenomenal translation. they even captured the look of the shrine tokens straight from the 2nd edition illustrations

>>98264173Wait, Eldar are trash now? That's new.
>>98264165It wasn't squad members. It had do with an interaction with when Independent Characters could be targeted, which was if they were the nearest visible unit and maybe a Wound threshold.
>>98264168You know it. My point is more that the spectacle of the game is completely fucked by hyper competitive sorts. You said 20 years ago yet many modern 40k tournaments have big dumb coasters for your models to stand on along with soulless terrain. One of the big things I recall from yesterday are the amazing campaign tables they'd show off in older editions, I think that is still a very big and powerful part of the game that's been left by the wayside.

>>98264193>>98264177>>98264173What happened?

>>98264181And they still have those photoshoots in the new books. The problem is ruins have a lot of really useful properties as a terrain type, and are easy to build. If you have random cardboard lying around, what is the easiest terrain you can make with the most bang for your buck in terms of what it can do? L-shaped ruins.
>>98264179The same thing applied to characters, for rules purposes they where part of the unit.Different editions have different degrees of granularity regarding T, Sv, W and gear, but using vehicles to snipe character was not a thing rules wise. Since you could always put the wound on someone else in the squad. The only time you could target a character was when it was on their own and usually when it was closest and only visible unit. And at that point you would be shooting it by default since it would be like shooting at any other unit. The only difference is that is a unit compose of just one model.Either people cheated, never played or never read the rules.
>>98264047I may be wrong, it's been a long while since I checked either rulebook, but I remember that some change happened around 6th edition>before: if more than a certain percentage of the unit is in cover, the entire unit is in cover. casualties are removed from wherever you want, which also means you can remove models that aren't even in los of the shooting unit, or remove enough models in cover so that the unit is no longer in cover for whatever successive shooting attack from another unitthis simulated troops dying as they're on the move, or walking forward as their fellow soldier in front of them falls>after: cover is determined on an individual basis and casualties are removed from the closest model, which also means that models out of los of the shooting unit cannot be killed in the shooting sequence and that the shooting unit can "push back" enemy units by removing the models closest to them, making charges more difficult and sometimes nullifying entire movement phases.this was sold as a more realistic and evocative approach, but quickly turned crunchy to play because people would abuse technicalities in the targeting or use characters as living shields.and it also reeked of gunline faggots amongst the writers not wanting to actually engage in the rest of the game.
>>98264123no
>>98264199Most of the Eldar detachments were incredibly niche or even bad, and the good ones involved running small squads of T3 5++ save minis.Basically the ONLY way to play them properly was to just alpha strike your opponent and hope you crippled them enough that they couldn't swing back. When this tactic got nerfed, Eldar basically had no fallback options.
>>98264187>>98264179Not a thing. Every edition had a variation of the same rule. The only way you could target a character was if it was it's own unit and it was the closest and visible thing to shoot at.If the guy was attached to a unit and was the only visible thing you could take casualties from somewhere else in the unit.People really read some fucking cheater in a forum and ran with it
>>98264158I trust Jes's iron fist on the development of the eldar, if niggelfs are coming, it will be 3 or 6 years from now, not now.
>>98264223I guess people just created a meme back in the day and it spread from retards who never read the rules. Checks out honestly.
>>98264210You literally described the use case, dumbass.
>>98264204If I'm going to play poorhammer like that, I'll also end up using whatever I've got to try and conjure up something vaguely interesting to fight over, heck even using books to make hills is a pretty fine idea.
We are an hour and a half away from feeling either incredible excitement or immense disappointment
>>98264224>it will be 3 or 6 years from nowWoke is losing the culture war badly so things are actually likely to get better in the next 3-6 years, what we're seeing now is the sludge of the last 3-6 years clearing from the pipeline.
>>98264238There have been many disappointing reveal shows in the past but I have a good feeling about this one, as long as you're a chad that likes good 40k models from any system including Necromunda, Kill Team, Heresy, etc. At least ONE of these will show off something awesome today.
>>98262216SM and Orks codexes, multipart kits for Armageddon ETB units, a new dreadnought or a bike captain perhaps.
>>98264234>Targeting is simple: people gamed it and used vehicles to set up firing lanes that sniped high priority modelsNot really. Since if you read the rules, you would know that the only reason you could target a character was:>they are their own unit>not attached to anything else>closest unit>only thing visibleUsually the only way that could happen was if for some reason you left your character alone in front of the enemy. At that point there is no need to create a fire line, since your united by default without a leadership test for target priority would be shooting at it. Just by the sheer fact it is the closest unit. Also if you are running a character solo and running straight towards the enemy it usually was a character that could tank the damage.Like some marine units with 2+/4++/6+++ and ignore insta death
Gotta be honest I don't feel like Eldar deserve to win.
>>98264224Well, containment is already broken in maelstorm report game (some dude in skirt from 'eavy metal painting team use his blackwashed corsair army)
>>98264264>>only thing visiblethe point is that this was easy as fuck to game and abuse just by putting a tank between your unit and the target so that the character is the only visible model of that unit
>>98264271True but if you think about it only Orks and Necrons actually deserve to win
>>98264274No negroid noses or lips, no problem.
>>98264228>>98264264No, the rules explain exactly how the sniping happens.Let there be an IC who has not joined a unit at 18" and squad A at 13", and firer F.In order for F to target the IC, the IC must be the closest visible target.F must target A unless A is not a legal target. How would you make A not a legal target? Block LOS to A.If LOS is blocked to A s.t. A is not a legal target, the IC becomes the closest visible target, even though it is further than A.
>>98264024I mean.. aren't they jungle-dwelling 'savages' that have forsaken the majority of eldar tech shit? Would be heavily stereotypical, but worst case scenario you can do head swaps with other Eldar kits.
Oh my
>>98264024Eldar with dreadlocks would be blasted for being cultural appropriation unless all the models were blatantly black coded.
>>98264228In fact I'm not even sure how the Tau Fish of fury is supposed to work. Since Vehicles regardless if it was your or your enemy blocked line of sight in 3rd, 4th and 5th. Skimmers only ignored models and terrain for movement purposes and some benefits in close combat. There is also no rule in the Tau codex regarding skimmers.
>>98264284>aren't they jungle-dwelling 'savages' that have forsaken the majority of eldar tech shit?no, they still have all the tech, they're where the eldar armies in titanicus got their knight titans fromThey're just planetbound instead of spaceborne, and do gardening and farming instead of the craftworlders' zen shit.
>>98264295What you mean like striking scorpions have had for decades?
>>98264319those are predator dreads, they don't count
>>98264280All this nonsense when IC work like this: For the most part a character became IC when they are no longer in coherency with a unit. That could only happen if you intentionally move it away and declared it was independent. Or if the rest of the unit died. If for some reason the IC is some how further away and another unit is closer you can simply do a leadership test and shoot itIn other words in order for an IC to be a valid target it just needs to be on its own. You can always shoot it as long it is the closest or you pass a leadership test.
>No leeks (photos)James got the lid tight on this one? Why?
>>98264170I still dont understand your complaint or your reasoning
>>98264348>James got the lid tight on this oneWe've had rumors of the stuff they're going to show for months now.
>>98264175They win 40k comp majors sometimesTheyve been very good in several metas
>Talking as if Exodites are actually happeningThe KT reveal Steel Legion infantry vs Flash Boyz you morons.
>>98264175Valedor (Guy Haley) in 2017. And it was pretty minor and tied into Ynnari. Eldar have lost in every major campaign they have participated in story wise though.
>>98264358Well now if it isn't exodites I'm blaming you
>>98264357>they are good in the board gameKill. Yourself. Immediately.
>>98264358shut up
>>98264365>are goodwere*
>>98264365This thread oscillates heavily between giving a shit about nothing but the lore, and giving a shit about nothing but the game itselfSome people would say the exact opposite of what you’re saying since eldar have been extremely good on tabletop for a long time
>>98264358>Steel Legion infantryNot even that, it'll be new Assault Intercessors.Gotta cash in on new edition hype.
>>98264358don’t be retarded. its going to be armageddon ork hunters vs mad boys
>>98264373Except we are talking explicitly about the lore.>Eldar are written badly, only ever losing fights which makes their overarching meta narratives boring because you know ahead of time they will never win or look cool>But they win in the board gameYou see how these things arent related at all?
>>98264354I think it's going to be the Legion of the Damned in the Kill Team. The only reason I believe this is because how much GW is pushing the fire aspect of the summer on the preview page (or it could just be that they live in the UK at the moment).
>>98264334Why leave it to chance, especially if you have mediocre LD and can bypass it by making the priority target one that does not require any randomness to target?I'm not denying that this was situational and required some specific setups (made easier by many tables not following the 25% rule in the BRB that, get this, resembles modern tournament tables). But it's an obvious reading of the rules without additional errata.
>everyone assuming the Exodite release is Kill Team>yfw it's a full 40k model line
>>98264380I mean dude you’re welcome to that opinion idk why you’re so heatedI dont mind the way eldar are written personally but if you dont like it you can gripe about it I guess I just dont agreeThis topic started with “GW hates eldar” which would be weird since they either win or come second in every major for like 6+ years
>>98264381>I think it's going to be the Legion of the Damned in the Kill Team. The thing is they had that kind of cringy *nudge nudge wink wink* when they said the kill team reveal would be "off the scale".
>>98264387We're trying to keep it reasonable
>>98264394GW does hate Eldar, because Gav Thorpe hates Eldar, and he wrote Eldar, and he has admitted to hating them and making them suck on purpose multiple times. Then "eldar always lose" became part of GWs internal lore bible and thats it forever. Thats bad writing. Being awful at everything you do for the meta reason of your author intentionally wanted elves to be bad at everything because he made being a dwarf fag his personality is cringe.
>>98264401>and he wrote EldarThis is a fucking newfag meme. Eldar were in since Rogue Trader and Gav didn't even work there yet. And before you say "all da lore changed in 2nd/3rd edition!" no, all the Craftworld lore came out during RT, literally just got reprinted almost word for word in 2nd ed codex.
>>98264401Making something suck because you hate it is only bad writing from the perspective of someone who likes the thingIf I also hate the thing I might like it when they suck and get fucked lol
>>98264401Imperial Frieren genuinely makes me depressed to see considering it shows how blatant the community's disdain for Eldar is.
>>98264409Its not a newfag meme. Eldar were in the game OG, Jes Goodwin was the art brain behind the big Eldar art refresh/consolidation and Gav Thorpe solidified their lore based on Goodwins designs. STFU fake grog.>>98264413https://artelw.com/Frierend-Wayseer-p778129099
>>98264413You mean xenos in general? Its also just a meme anon lol dont get too in your feelings about it

>>98264419Arguing about 65 year old fat ugly boomers writing your alieussy faction you know you’re a faggot right?Like who gives a fuck lol
>>98264419>and Gav Thorpe solidified their loreNo he didn't, lying retard. It was all DONE AND WRITTEN by Rick fucking Priestley before Gav Thorpe even worked at the fucking company. You are such a humongous homosexual faggot calling other people "fake grog" while being one yourself.
>>98264425I am a fan of 40k in a 40k thread on a nerd website. This is my house motherfucker.
>>98264409>Eldar were in since Rogue Traderand they didn't have stories written specifically as some kind of misery porn
>>98264434Literally one of the first stories they got in White Dwarf during Rogue Trader was them fighting a Slaaneshi army and it makes a point to show the part where a beautiful howling banshee has her soulstone ripped out and eaten by a Keeper of Secrets and the POV character gets traumatized watching in horror. This has always been the point of the faction. They are misery porn incarnate since basically day 1.
>>98264448There is a difference between losing sometimes and as anon said misery porn. ita 40k, Heavy metal fantasy gore is part and parcel with the setting. That has nothing to do with thorpes vision of eldar as being objectively inferior to humans, orks, demons, etc in every way.
>>98264427Wierd that andy chambers and jes goodwin, and gav himself, credit gav with the modern incarnation of eldar
>>98264427>rogue trader era loreyea, and space marines eat poop, there are beakies everywhere and your typical inquisitor is named sherlock obiwan clouseau.
Whats a change you would make for your faction that you would like but would piss off the rest of your army's player base.>all future guard releases are cadians and only cadians. No more special snowflake regiment releases.
>>98264382>Why leave it to chanceYou are already leaving it to chance. This is middlehammerLets say the scenario of the vehicle placement to just target happen, you would have in the best case scenario 2 units, 3 if you for some strange reason bunch up everyone and blocked the line of sights to the rest of the army, just to kill 1 dude. You'd still have at best 4 weapons per unit worth using or in range.Since the character that would be alone would be some insane 2+/4++/6+++ ingore insta death kind of characters with 3W and T4 or T5 if it is some bike character (which would be the realistic target)You would miss 4 weapons. Since any other army would just take the leadership test as it would not have the vehicles or the lower leadership to pull out the vehicle spam or need to block lines since the leadership would be enough.2 wound, and the target saves all of them.Woopty doo.So obviously you will add True line of sight to fix this! in 5th! that had the same character rules as 4th! >>98264047>>98264056Like it was asked and incorrectly responded originally. The entire line of sight vehicle blocking was a made up thing in a forum of no games. Because if you played the game you would not it is retarded and didn't happen.
>>98264427Gav Throrpe explicitly called Priestlys Eldar "generic space elves" and views his and goodwins work as transforming them into something more interesting. And by interesting, dogshit. Because he hates elves. He said High Elves were the most boring part of WHFB because they were just good at everything and that is "boring". Priestley's elves were far superior because they weren't tainted by Gav Thorpes retardery
