>>98270814
why is it that maps give me such a sense of wanderlust, but when I am actually doing the exploration on the ground in a game its such a snore? its absolutely unfair.

Its something about everything taking too long and not having the immediate gratification of seeing where one thing is relitive to another and how that might cause it to interact.

For like two sessions, before the plot moves them into Upper Noblesse and the party stays there, and nobody ever mentions Townburg again.
Best case scenario, Townburg won't be burnt down for a cheap revenge motivation.

I just need the continents to fit together, is that so wrong?
>>
>>98270760
Yes. It's the fast food/diner of fantasy but that doesn't mean it's bad. Just common and what everyone like and expects in a good fantasy. I swear, reminds me of those people who make a vegan joint and act like their better cause they're "different." Then shocked no one cares for them over the cheap fast food joint next to them that been there for 30 years and hasn't changed much.

New fantasy isn't always bad, but don't go off hating the diner fantasy that gives you a little of everything the public likes. So everyone tend to go there over that "overpriced burger joint" that acts like they're not like other "burger places" when they basically the same but change two things and won't shut about it thinking that's enough to be special.

>Scandivikinga
straight up viking ripoffs, longships, ten thousand men named Olaf Olafson who throw axes and get into mead drinking contests. Wears armor. Raids everyone and everything they can because their gods Thurr, Udin, and Okil tell them to. Rune magic.
>Mountains of Muscles
Stereotypical barbarian tribes, wielding exclusively greatweapons, shirts are illegal and pants MUST be made from animal pelts. worships "The spirits" and "The Ancestors". Hates magic, collective IQ of 73 with a 22% literacy rate.
>McJob
Also known as "The Highlands". Kilts, claymores, and the god damn fey, but not the elf fey, the will-o-wisp fey. Stops anything particularly nasty from Scandivikinga from spilling over into Upper Noblesse, completely unintelligible accent, shortest insult takes 20 seconds to say. Probably werewolves, definitely banshees. The weather is either cloudy or raining.

The problem with most modern fantasy settings is simply too many woke fuckers keep pushing "diversity." So you can't really have a town, village, region have a identity. They often just overlap and have the same mixed groups of people. Look at the Witcher, Rings of Power, Willow, Wheel of Time, and other woke modern takes on fantasy books. They have to add random black people into the background for their DEI quotas. Mind you if it was based off a non-white region. You wouldn't see random white people unless they're raiders or some type of villain. (Look at Black Panther. They wouldn't bring White Wolf/Hunter into the MCU. Just call Bucky White Wolf to tease that he isn't coming.)

What I do when I make a region is I don't do the "diversity" BS. If the elven region, you aren't going to see families of orcs that are refugees. Or a bunch of "Noponese" living in "Camenot" Now you can have merchants traveling and selling wares and can have people from one nation living in another nation due to reasons. Especially for big trade hubs. However they would keep to said hubs and places nearby. Having one would be rare not one family per fucking village.

So basically keep the races in their nations outside of merchants and maybe a plot hook encounter here and there. (Should be very rare and known there a foreigner living in say town and often the reason why.) Also when making said region based off of real group, like china, japan, rome, etc. Lean into it and don't just do two building then make it basic fantasy.

So, you actively make your worlds less realistic and less verisimilitudenous and you think that that is better somehow? Sounds like your a double digit IQ retard who thinks that huffing his own farts makes him smart.
>>

>So, you actively make your worlds less realistic and less verisimilitudenous and you think that that is better somehow?
This nigger actually believes the Hollywood myth that every civilization throughout human history was a perfect melting pot of racial diversity with representation of every race across the planet and thinks depicting homogeneous societies is the unrealistic way.

Wrong, retard. Go to a random village in China 2,000 years ago and guess what ethnicity every single person there is going to be. CHINESE. Same with a random German village, everyone there would be GERMAN.
Before we had the luxury of trains, ships and airplanes, the presence of foreigners in a community was the exception, not the rule. And that was without the presence of dragons and giants and demons lurking around every curve of the road between your village and the village across the border in another country.

China 2,000 was under the Han Dynasty you dumb, malformed lump of Ameri-ogre flesh. Literally the beating heart of the Silk Road, one of the most unprecedented flows of global trade (and merchants) at the time. Chinks literally had to invent a new term (Yi) for foreigns and barbarians.

>>
>>98274687
>less realistic and less verisimilitudenous
Its a fucking fantasy and point is to make it fun so how is this an argument? Who cares if its not completely realistic its what truly does make places feel more unique and helps make travel feel special. No need to go to extreme but if its fantasy you can. Next you are going to complain about unrealistic arms and armour?

You're missing that Anon's point hard. The point is not "All pre-modern lands were monolithic ethnostates". He seemed to go out of the way to clarify that wasn't his position. The point is that in a world with far less travel there will be distinct cultural identities and people groups. His whole point could amount to "Having this people in one place and a different people in this place and cataloging their interactions is more interesting than assuming all lands are cosmopolitan hubs". A samurai in Great Britain is a thousand times more interesting if there isn't already tons of fantasy Japanese already there. An Elf Lord has a lot more gravitas if the Elf population of Humanburg is sub-2%.

Every time this kind of topic comes up people try to flanderize it into a denial there was cosmopolitan centers, cultural interaction, and no aliens anywhere when the point is actually "Those things were less common in the past". Not non-existent, not even rare, just much less common in most places.
>>
>>98271768
You forgot
>i WILL include my barely disguised fetish(es)
>>
>>98275640
If travel in your fantasy world is that easy, then the population won't be diverse. They will, without cultural interventions, have bred down to a default population type.
>>
>>98286345
To amplify this guy's post, many walled cities in the Old World had a Foreign Quarter for traders and diplomats from other lands. It was typically locked at night.
>>
>>98286345
>You're missing that Anon's point hard. The point is not "All pre-modern lands were monolithic ethnostates".
Nah, you don't get to weaselly IQ-wash that drooling retard's historically illiterate nonesense. This is exactly what he meant. He just happened to pick the worst example ever (China) because he gets all his "history" from Instagram shorts and archived /pol/ greentexts.
