>>98273121Need more cute healer girls
>>98274824How do you even make a healer here? All the ways I can think of are really convoluted and result in something that is only a healer by technicality.
>>98274855Probably whatever you're thinking of with a bit of fluff. I feel like this run can be a little crayonsy too. We also had some healers in past runs.
>>98273121>>98273128Eurayleanon here, I've noticed we've gained quite a few 'ex-villains/antipathic that have been redeemed and/or joined the party for their own gain,' characters. I really like that vibe and it gives the party some interesting flavour, but it leaves the hero party with not a lot to do that's interactive.I'm probably going to start up an ark with Eurayle as the main villain, relatively early in the company's formation (or perhaps the company was formed after the fact, with Eurayle being the Tutorial Boss/first sign of the Demon King's schemes) so that the hero party has something to write about or springboard off - I know at least one anon wanted it to be entirely retroactive so they could write some Eurayle/party dynamic stuff but at the moment we're struggling to gain momentum. The question being should I limit the heroes in the party? Given it's quite early in their quest, I have ideas for it being 4/5 of them at most, whereas Eurayle will have some unfair advantages, a small army and possibly assistance from other villain builds (at the the) like Endymion. I don't want to gatekeep any anons from writing but the plot I have in mind personally only makes sense if there aren't close to 20 S-Rank Super Heroes immediately ganking Eurayle.
>>98274914On that note, since we don't have an objective history of the party, my idea is essentially the classic Party of Four;Jacker - RedmageLanna - WarriorMadge - White MageNoire - Black MageFacing an Evil Villain Artefact buffed Eurayle with a potential character introduction of Cyreina as an ominous shadowy plot figure connected to the Evil Villain Artefact.I can't really use Bram for both the reason that he'd instantly resolve the Eurayle issue by shoving her into the metaphorical locker and it seems to early for the party to have the infamy to draw his attention. Is there anyone else who'd want to be involved indirectly with the party during their first days, as a Quest Giver or the like?
>>98274914>>98274924Sounds kino. Godspeed anon.
Rolled 1 (1d2)1. work on that oc2. rot
>>98274961dang
>>98274924The cyoa is based around parties of 5, no? Or are trying to set it up so that Eurayle will be the 5th in that group eventually?
>>98274855I think ESS;(KIB) is enough, actually, looking at its description. It's a Truth, not an Element, so you don't NEED a spell to use it. ESS;(ATK) doesn't need a technique for you to punch someone, ESS;(SPD) doesn't need an extra ability for you to run, so ESS;(KIB)...
>>98274977I'm not sure we're following that very closely but if there's someone else that fits it works. Technically Cyreina will be the fifth for the narrative as The Mage but I'm planning on her having her powers sealed/stripped by the Artefact and she's essentially the spooky plot device ghost leading the PCs to beat up Eurayle if Cyreinaanon is okay with that.

Determined once motivated.Full build with a lot more stuff.https://rentry.org/qph6wiimThe build is done, but I'm not sure about a few minor parts of it. Most of the build is in rentry with proper descriptions because I hit character limit here.
>>98274866>>98274985I was looking at it and there are a couple of other ways to make a healer that isn't just "Pick Kib and you're done".TA HIERA allows you to use essence as elements and statuses so you can do some fun stuff with that, even if it's a bit expensive. It's doable since a lot of it is basic points.Artifact also has potential, since it can use your powers. It's a bit convoluted but it's possible. Kib does work by itself, but the description makes it sound like a laborious process, and you probably need contact or close proximity.
>>98274986>>98274986Cyreinaanon here. I’m fine with her leading the party to beat up Euryale. I would prefer if her powers weren’t sealed away, but instead she just intentionally uses weaker powers (like using fire spells) to keep a low profile. I imagine she’s getting the party to overcome strong challenges to prepare against her former pupil. But if you think it will make for a better story I’m also fine with some changes.
>>98275057Fair, I'm away/on phone at the moment but I can explain the plot I had in mind when I come back in case it makes it any better. If not that's cool but I might need to reshuffle some things to make narrative sense.
>>98275023Enchant should reasonably work too
>>98275023The most exotic kind of healing I can think of is Drain Death if we're thinking of different avenues.
>>98275094Maybe chucking potions at your allies or something too
>>98275147Yeah basically you can toy around with KIB/MUNG and Alchemy/Herbology/Witchcraft. TA HIERA is the easy pick and lets you pick up something like Water for White Mage Healing vibes if you want to be able to sing people back to health or something.
>>98275173I recall a build that healed with fire in one of the prior runs too. Probably any sort of magic is a good supplement for a healer class. Not necessarily dedicated nuking like the true mage class builds, but a little extra for flavor and bit of additional squad firepower when necessary.
>>98274924Bramanon here, personally Bram shouldn’t be involved with the party too all that much. He’s basically just goofing around waiting for everyone to get strong enough to give him a challenge and may even help out the villain if it improves chances of fighting. He shouldn’t help out in fights because he would trivialize most encounters. Bram is insurance basically, and will bail out the party in the worst case scenario. Otherwise he will spar and provide martial advice.
>>98275237Relationship chart of good fight potential/progress when?
>>98274924I trust you anon, I bet you have a great writefag in your hands. I'd be happy to answer any Jacker questions you may have.>>98274995Pretty cool, maybe I should go back to the chibis and add the few new builds that have been added.
>>98274924Don't think it'd be relevant for this, but I was thinking that if we're going with the exodia villain thing, Abby could've eaten one of the pieces instead of taking a bite of a party member.
>>98275057Okay, so, the basic idea for the plot as I originally envisioned it, pending alterations for/from other anons;>Timeline1-2 years before presentTakes place over a few months (timeskip heavy)>Location/Main PlotA Human Kingdom (TBN) to the south, under attack from increasingly motivated and organized various groups - namely demihuman clans like goblins, actual monsters and previously harmless renegade and bandit camps. The PCs will begin fighting ancillary attacks on outlying towns, progress into recognizing a wider conspiracy and finalize with a mobilization against the discovered Eurayle/co.>Major Characters/VibesJacker/Lanna/Noire/Madge - Adventuring Party, generally heading around semi-aimlessly solving issues for people. Are here because Madge has had some strange divinations, but begin unaware of the threat or Eurayle or the Demon King behind her scheme.Eurayle - One of the major players behind the attacks, seeking revenge for what she believes to be a targeted genocide of the Lamia by the Human Kingdom. In truth these were false-flag attacks by the Demon King to recruit Eurayle as a throwaway evil general to cause havoc. Currently buffed by an extremely potent ELE;(DARK) Artefact of power stolen by the Demon King to make her more of a boss fight for the party.Cyreina - Recently ambushed by the Demon King and his cronies to remove her as a threat. Managed to steal a majority of her Dark Power and leave her weakened. Her power is stored in the Artefact currently given to Eurayle and makes for her major motivation to be a spooky guide to push the Party towards the conspiracy. The main reasoning for Cyreina's power being stolen, beyond giving her a more tangible 'in,' was to excuse Eurayle's evil-ass Dark Artefact and to give her more active hostilities with the Demon King. If that doesn't work for you, no issue, but I'll have to rethink the Artefact and other characters to make it feel more interactive/less gamey than 'Orb of +5 Basics.'
>>98275237Makes sense, the vibe is The Company doesn't exist yet and The Party is relatively young so this might be before Bram even recognizes their existence, as it were.>>98275320It might be more than one writefag, I have a bit of a whole story I can slowly chip away at and let other people write for it too if we want, it's just something to chew on while we worldbuild.Speaking of, I'll ask when I can figure anything out. For now, if it's meant to be a bit before the present, are there any abilities on Jacker's sheet you want them to not have during the retroactive flashback - something they're training or working on?
>>98275398Cyreinaanon here again; this works for me now that I see more of what you’re going for. Great stuff
>>98275422Probably the Jump and Glint finishers. You can have that as a payoff, things he's maybe training with as a joke while goofing off or something, and then he pulls it off. Albeit, Jacker doesn't see these things as "finishers" because he's not much of a flashy fighter. Kinda like how you have several special moves in Zelda games, like the jumping killing blow, but that's not necessarily a fighting game super or anything. Jacker just sees those as extra tools in his fighting toolbox. Oh also, his elemental casting should be fairly limited. He's a lot better at enchanting his arrows, or shooting fire pew pews out of his sword, than say, shooting fire out of his own hands. He also learned the fire element to be resistant to it and also to light fires for survival purposes, so Jacker shouldn't really be casting Fireball like a mage, at least not at the start.
>>98275451>>98275398Additionally, I name-dropped a city called Rayalia in my own writefag. My concept was that it would be a city-state created to sort of bridge the gap between other kingdoms, hosting a wide variety of races and peoples. Feel free to use it as the human kingdom or not, or just a place that the Phoenix Feather Company eventually settles on to have their HQ there.
>>98275309couple of days at most
>>98275398>In truth these were false-flag attacks by the Demon King to recruit Eurayle as a throwaway evil general to cause havoc.Funny thing about this. When i posted my build I had a quick line in the fluff saying this...>>98265052>>98265033>because for all the demihuman villages purged...My idea originally was already that Endymion Bruce was responsible for false-flag attacks such as the one that set Euryale off. Maybe the way she realizes it wasn't the Human Kingdom is that they don't have access to some weapon/golem/artifact who's remains were left behind in the attack? I had a scene in my head of a later-game party with Euryale and Endymion in it where he realizes she looks so familiar because he had her tribe attacked/supplied the operation for the Demon King, and then promptly deciding to never, ever bring it up anywhere near her.
>>98274995Is thatIS THAT A CUTE BOYIma dieeeeI need to sniff his tummy right nowwww
>>98275544Sorry to burst your bubble Greed but that's a half-digga
>>98275496This works perfectly, yeah. Do you want them to have never met or to have been in some brief Dark Council collisions before the first act? Eurayle might be the first boss to go down but being entrusted with the Artefact means she's one of the more important of the Demon King's assets it begin with. I'll let you decide on their interactions when they were both on the Kings council.
Can someone explain the powerlevel to me? Are the skill descriptions taken at face value and everyone is a god, or are they scaled down? How much?
>>98275467I'm not good at mapping but I can draw some funny circles of what I think the map vaguely looks like when I get back to my PC and we can go over it.
>>98275598I'm going to writefag skies being split so at least island level
>>98275598I'll personally be writing them as metaphor and significantly toned down but will still have room for Bram punching down a city wall or suplexing a large train with only some exertion. I think we're in general disagreement at the moment though.
>>98275621>I'll personally be writing them as metaphor and significantly toned downholy cringe
>>98275634If people start really getting into destroying towns during bar brawls then I'll acclimate but at the moment I'm more interested in characters that have to think about mortal armies and other factors instead of just Shivaing ten thousand men.
>>98275654That's why you have those guards also destroy cities but thankfully we have ki control so they can keep it in their pantsThe beauty of JRPG powerscaling
>>98275621amazing low T energy in this post
>>98275667Sure but then it becomes essentially a zero-sum position where everyone is just fighting everyone else with a stick in a glade except if someone misses half the glade goes missing. The big factors at that point is things like speed characters crossing a country in a few minutes and other stuff that makes it very hard for me to visualize what's going on. I absolutely want the vibes of Bram being impossibly physical, our mages having ridiculous magic that can shatter formations and the like, I want characters to feel relatively powerful compared to normal people, especially if they specialize. What I have a harder time with meme powerscaling is asking myself why Lanna doesn't literally grab the castle and flip it instead of risking a fight with the inner denizens, or implying they have that power but ignoring it half the time because then that level of power seems kind of pointless to begin with. That aside, I'd still like to acclimate to what everyone else wants, but I'll be writing Euraylequest in a more grounded fashion where Jacker might be able to take on a hundred Goblins fine but it's not something that's just a non-issue.
>>98275598>>98275621I really don't think Rain and Quake are being metaphorical so around city level and above seems to be the scope for the MP
>>98275702>why Lanna doesn't literally grab the castle and flip it instead of risking a fight with the inner denizensBut imagine how cool that would be
>>98275734While it's immediately cool I think it's one of those Pandora's Box cases like with The Flash where you either have to accept that this is the normal level of feat and completely invalidate a bunch of stories that aren't high conceptual Shivaposting, or brush them under the rug and leave the rest of the story questionable (nobody likes inconsistent powerscaling from my experience). I can operate better if characters are supernaturally OP but reigned into 'completely unstoppable by normal people' over 'conceptually incompatible with any normal concerns.'
>>98275741>and completely invalidate a bunch of stories that aren't high conceptual ShivapostingI really don't think this would happen since the beauty of high power kino is that you can just bullshit whatever else to also be high power to fit any story
>>98275741Yeah yeah you want rusty pipe tier whatever mudchudJust don't complain when my build shatters a mileswide meteor and flips castles in MY writefag
>>98275741invalidating low power garbage is a virtue not a vice
>>98275702Honestly agreed. Sounds a lot more interesting to read.
>>98275757Stories are more than fighting though. While it's entirely a skill/preference issue I have trouble writing a scenario where an ALL++ build can't Quicksilver their way through a hundred tasks before the mage takes a sip of their tea every scene. Or a battle for a big bridge being invalidated because a mage can just teleport further down the river and conjure up a better stone bridge. You can definitely make excuses but having to repeatedly fight your own powerscaling feels more like the powerscaling is the issue, is all.>>98275772>>98275785If you want to write high concept stuff and the thread prefers it, go ahead. I'm not here to win some kind of argument and don't think your position is inherently bad or anything, I just want to write stuff people find entertaining and have a personal preference. In particular Jacker is very Link-coded, Lanna and Madge seem very grounded and Noire's powers are (???) so I think it fits the vibes of the Heroes I'm using to be Videogame Superhuman over Conceptual is all.
>>98275702>why Lanna doesn't literally grab the castle and flip itThe castle doesn't have the structural integrity for that. She'd just end up holding a piece of the wall.
>>98275702>Jacker might be able to take on a hundred Goblins fine but it's not something that's just a non-issue.This made me think of Dynasty Warriors, actually. More specifically, Hyrule Warriors. I'm not against that kind of vibe desu.>>98275804>Jacker is very Link-codedYeah exactly, you get it. I'm not one that cares most for power levels, so I don't mind where we go and your concepts seem fine, but Jacker should not be succeeding from raw physical strength or magical power, but rather a combination of luck, versatility, experience and quick thinking. I can only talk about my own character when it comes to these things, but I don't think we HAVE to necessarily go super high anyway. "Fighting each other with sticks and if someone misses the floor explodes" kinda sucks
>>98275810Not unless it's a Magic Castle designed to tank STRchads.
>>98275804>>98275813watching you pretend to not be mudcore fags with all these weasel words and half commitments is hilarious btw
>>98275815Making their castle super durable just so the STRbro can flip it sounds very kind on the castle owner's side.
The fact that everyone decided progression doesn't work and gave up on it ever happening as a concept is a big pain. This would be so easy to solve if we just established that low level adventurers haven't leveled up enough to put up crazy numbers, but they obviously will eventually.
>>98275804>an ALL++ build can't Quicksilver their way through a hundred tasks before the mage takes a sip of their tea every scenethat's more an issue of powerscaling within the cyoa and less of a high power issue, the obvious solution is just make the mage faster which has to be done in writing because otherwise speedbuilds rape and gape everyone else>Or a battle for a big bridge being invalidated because a mage can just teleport further down the river and conjure up a better stone bridge.again, that really doesn't even seem unfeasible in the cyoa as it is, by all means making a stone bridge should be relatively easy for a mageyou'd have to make a bridge that's really fucking big or really fucking strong to avoid that being an option... which works for high power anyway
>>98275819Funny that you say that when my favourite MPs so far have been SC, JITE, Martial Path and a few anime MPs, which have all been pretty powerful. I tend to like high power ceilings simply because it lets me do more, but in this particular instance I don't want my character to be in the highest power levels because that's not the point of the character. Hell, if we did DBZ I'd probably like that
>>98275810>>98275815I thought about this exact issue and that's why I gave Greed Commune so that the spirits could raise the durability of any object she needs to flip.
>>98275831>otherwise speedbuilds rape and gape everyone elseThis is a problem in most settings and is often conveniently ignored, to be fair
>>98275821The highpowerchads don't want to waste time mucking about in lowpowerville and the mudeities don't want to go past level 15 so progression just doesn't work for anyone
>>98275819I appreciate that this is a bit of a heated argument and a fun sport for a few people on the mudcore debate so I'll leave it at this because I'm not interested in this kind of argument - I want characters to feel powerful for the world around them, but I also want the world around the characters to be obstacles or considerations without resorting to;- Wildly inconsistent powerscaling- Boblin the Goblin also being town-tier- Basic plots like 'enter the dungeon and fight the monsters' not being invalidated by characters collapsing the dungeon or Quicksilvering their way through it for a Hype Moment/Aura sceneDespite this, I do want Bram and Greed to be the scariest thing anyone's ever seen physically and being essentially unbeatable in a fistfight except by other Redmaxxers. I do want people to be in awe at the spells the EGO characters are slinging and I do want people to be pulling off impossible feats relatively consistently, I just also want them to live in a world where kindgoms, duchies, craftsmans guilds and armies actually matter instead of being window dressing to flex on.I'm fine with any further constructive discussion, but I won't be responding to mudcoreposting again as I don't find it fun and would prefer to use my time otherwise.
>>98275804>Noire's powers are (???)And I've got no issues with her in a more grounded context by the way. Whatever helps push your narrative is what I'd like to see. Even if she shows up in another writefag with greater feats, it's easy to rationalize because she's a dream of a very inexperienced dreamer. It's fully intended for her feats to fluxuate wildly depending on focus, emotional stakes, plain dumb luck, inspiration, character growth, etc.
>>98275862I agree with this sentiment. The more we keep dwelling on this, the more time we lose that we could spend worldbuilding or writing. So, what kind of setup do we have for the starting party? What's their inciting incident? Are you gonna write them as the four-piece from the start, or have them actually meet?
>>98275862dont you dare question Boblins power level hes a good strong boy
>>98275862You're probably uninterested but I'm more interested in discussing if the actual inconsistencies are really inconsistencies>Boblin the Goblin also being town-tierIs it really an issue if Boblin's town tier? Obviously, I don't think any individual goblin or slime that isn't some sort of apex of their kind would threaten the PCs anyway, and if the issue is "why doesn't Chief Boblin cleave a giant canyon into the ground to better plunder trade routes" which is fucking kino btw the solution could be as simple as "his dagger is sharp enough to harm someone who could harm someone who COULD do that but his 'destructive capacity' isn't that high".>Basic plots like 'enter the dungeon and fight the monsters' not being invalidated by characters collapsing the dungeon or Quicksilvering their way through it for a Hype Moment/Aura sceneAgain, the solution is really just having the dungeon be stronger and the monsters be faster. You can speedblitz a goblin camp or jobber bandit squad but the high level goblins and mastermind bandits can keep up.
>>98275875>What's their inciting incident? Are you gonna write them as the four-piece from the start, or have them actually meet? This one I'm not sure on yet and will probably leave up to Jacker/Lanna/Madge/Noireanon, if you guys are okay with taking the reigns on how they know each other and for how long. The inciting incident is relatively simple as a callback to JRPGs. The party is dead broke and low on supplies for whatever reason (maybe one character's fault, maybe something more complicated) and come across a fortified town that's having pretty serious goblin issues - think less a cave of thirty goblins and more like a warband of a few hundred. The party goes and clears the cave and finds a spoiler that leads them down the path of realizing that the southern kingdom is experiencing all sorts of strange issues. Bandits, pirates and brigands have become more cohesive, monsters have become more organized and some monsters that normally hunt and eat in their own territory have been straying out of their homes to attack farmlands and villages. It's the party's job to work with locals, which might include other PCs as supporting roles, to figure out what's going on. Cyreina has been stalking the place ominously, looking for a way to get her power back (she's not strong enough to take back the Artefact without essentially dying, especially in her state) and will eventually find the party and spookily gesture in the right direction as sort of a disappears-into-the-fog ghostly old lady.Where it goes from there I'm uncertain but the current vibe is a somewhat shortened story by focusing on the different 'Chapters', like The Goblin Cave, The Investigation, Etc., Etc., The Great Battle, The Eurayle Boss Fight. If anyone else wants to be involved that's also fine and we can definitely work it in. The idea being that the defeat of Eurayle sounds the alarm on the Demon King, who has been extremely subtle so far, and calls for the formation of the Company.
>>98275850Yeah. I enjoyed making a speed build for another MP and focusing on how different moving and acting st high velocities is though. But things get muddy if speed enhancements become too potent and more common.
>>98275821>>98275858It's more of an issue with our chaotic mish-mash of multiple writers desu. With how many mps tend to fizzle out quickly, if we try to have progression people want to use it consistently. However, people write at different paces, and often feel they need to earn their powerups. It leads into really wonky timeline issues where if someone's busy for a week or two, their character becomes un-usable because you don't know how their abilities evolved while off screen, or leads to issues where some builds grow stronger at different rates than others and the powergaps become a barrier to writing. Or you were writing something further ahead, but a new writefag from someone slower developed someone's abilities in a way that make what you were writing no longer viable. It's like a pandora's box of different ways we can trip over each other.Basically it's something that sounds cool when you think about your character in a vacuum but more often than not gets in the way of the narrative instead of becoming a building block for the narrative. As the thread changes over time, we'll probably find a way to make it work eventually.
>>98275915>will probably leave up to Jacker/Lanna/Madge/Noireanon, if you guys are okay with taking the reignsThe thing is I don't like deciding things like "my guy was the first one" or something like that because it feels like I'm tooting my own horn, but my take on it would be that Jacker and Lanna teamed up first, maybe with Noire following soon after, and Madge would be the 4th to join. I like the idea of building up Jacker and Lanna as friendly rivals, but Lanna's the more inexperienced one of the two. Lanna has the advantage of a more hopeful outlook that keeps her pushing forward, but Jacker has more experience and he'd be willing to teach her something from time to time. They'd eventually come to see each other as equals that keep each other on their toes. I like that. >the current vibe is a somewhat shortened story by focusing on the different 'Chapters'I like that plan. Keeps your writing organised and easy to follow.
So... for the people who want high power stuff where a random goblin can blow up cities with his mind, are there any builds behind those anons? Or is this another situation where they'll just say they totally have a build but won't name it because they don't want people to know which side of the argument their build is on (only makes sense if they never plan on writing btw)?
>>98275955its clearly bram anon
>>98275955Have you seen how psycho people get in these threads? Makes perfect sense to me.
>>98275955>>98275840
>>98275966I haven’t butted in yet, but I don’t really care either way. Of course I’d love for Bram to do crazy shit which is why I wrote him eviscerating that squid. But it is much harder to write stories when everyone can sneeze and nuke a small town for fun. Any writefags I do make will be high power, but it won’t be main plot heavy anyways. Funny enough I mentioned this on the Jacker writefag.
>>98275952To be fair there is nobody that was 'first'. Technically The Company is formed by many Parties and other benefactors that all came to the same conclusion, it just so happens that Jacker was there when this Party was formed. The story is meant to be in no way a 'this is where it ALL started,' so much as one of the political movements that forced the Demon King's plan into the open.>>98275898>You're probably uninterested but I'm more interested in discussing if the actual inconsistencies are really inconsistenciesYeah no problem, I just don't have the energy or care to argue for argument's sake, is all. Also, full disclosure, I wrote a full post to explain my philosophy then deleted it like an idiot, so this is the condensed version.>his dagger is sharp enough to harm someone who could harm someone who COULD do that but his 'destructive capacity' isn't that high"This is a personal pet peeve of mine. It's very much subjective and prone to vibes over numbers but I've always considered that the more excuses like these you have to make the less committed you are to your powerscaling over bending your own rules for the sake of fun (entirely valid).Where I'd differ on Chief Boblin, to make it less immediate and more breathable in a more grounded (but not realistic) setting, is him legendarily carving an entire cave through a mountain on his own over a few days or weeks, depending on your preference. Outside of combat, which is always a very quick-finality kind of thing, these kinds of demigod mythological feats were always cooler to me when they were an impossible process or labour over 'they flexed their stats and just did it,' because you get to have your tension, play, counterplay and the like without an immediate, uinteractive resolution while STILL making the person who did it an absolute freak.
>>98275993Also Chaunt works to wave away physics whenever doing stuff like flipping cities. At least thats how I interpret it.
>>98275994Oh okay, good. I don't like the pressure of deciding that kind of thing entirely on my own.
>>98275955>NOOOOO, YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR BUILD DO STUFF THAT THE OPTIONS THEY PICKED SAID THEY COULD DO... BECAUSE YOU JUST CAN'T OKAY!? THE GOBLINS WOULD BE TOO STRONG! NORMAL HUMAN GUARDS WOULDN'T STAND A CHANCE!
>>98275993FWIW I fully intend to have Bram metaphorically breaking the setting's concept of strength over his knee, but when everyone else is a little more grounded then Bram being able to pull down a castle with his bare hands feels more like a HIM thing than something that just happens.Same with other hyperspecialists, I want them to do things everyone else considers impossible, but you don't need to flip a city to be the impossible pinnacle to a world where the 'strong guy' is Juggernaughting through a house.
>>98275955Not only a mudcore anon, but one of those anons who demands people write stuff too? Going a little mask off over there, nofun.
>>98276027>but you don't need to flip a city to be the impossible pinnacle to a world where the 'strong guy' is Juggernaughting through a house.no offense but holy fuck anon this sounds so fucking boringbump it up at least a little man
>>98276036Sorry, reread my own post and miscommunicated, when I said 'strong guy,' I just meant like generic Meathead Strong Adventurer Man rather than the King of Strength or whatever. It'll be higher than I just suggested, yes.
>>98276027I like that interpretation and it would fit Bram. And again low power is kind of needed or else generalist builds get no diffed by any specialist. Anyways, I will do my sidestories with chad continent flippers and nukers for funs sake.
>>98275600>>98275467I'm terrible at maps, like I said, but this was the very vague idea I had of the places that had been mentioned and will be used.

>>98276083I'm not part of the current discussion but I actually like this kind of map. It can be expanded easily, and does its job of giving relative locations. I'm probably going to add to it later too.
>>98276127Nice, the only other idea I had was having the Elves be even further north since they're the sophisticated techno-academics of this CYOA and personally I think that fits as the isolationist snow mountain weirdo vibes, other than that I have no idea..
>>98275994>Technically The Company is formed by many Parties and other benefactors that all came to the same conclusionNta but that's what I was thinking of too. I don't know if you know of it but it would be a bit like Subspace Emissary, small groups start gathering into bigger groups until The Company is big enough that any new members go directly there.
>>98276083I've been kinda busy so I haven't commented on the existing writefags or proposed ones, but I'd like for Alkia (kingdom in Varik's backstory) to have been the most prominent human power at one point in time. Its capital city, Lucasta, was described in the cyoa as "the center of the world" by some before the Emperor's death, and I'd like to keep that bit of the worldbuilding for our version of the world. Ensures that Varik's notoriety is as widespread as possible. No strong opinions on Alkia's placement otherwise.
>>98276135>Humans- Focused on Green (Spiritualism, Communication)- Theocratic/Merchantile/Diplomatic, trend towards states in the middle, control trade routes and have a big navy (merchant fleets)>Elves- Focused on Blue (Magic, Academics, Tech)- Meritocratic/Magocratic/Technocratic, live in resource rich, secluded areas to the north where they practice magic, artistry and weird pseudoscientific philosophy in isolation like the Dwemer>Beastmen- Redmaxxed (Combat, Physicality, Philosophy)- Philosopher-Warriors, honorcoded, militaristic, live in harsher conditions than the Humans but still like access to resources and trade routes, possibly constantly fighting each other to sharpen their wargames>Demons/Demihumans- Monsters, random, scattered, extremely powerful, lack any major civilizationsSomething like this for the vibes?

I assumed humans just did a little of everything
>>98276236Everyone does a little of everything but focusing Humans on Green, Elves on Blue and Beastmen on Red gives a nice flavour-mechanical connection. >>98276588I think the compromise is that you can do a generic explosion, but it's not any more impressive than a basic tier spell. If you want something better, you need to know actual spells.

>>98276588Unrelated to your question, but if you plan on having A-Cast as a central part of a build, I'd also like to recommend Spellmod+ from the bottom of the basic blue powers.

>>98276659I don't see why not, provided the gun's loading system is like a revolver or something where you slot in individual bullets. Just kiss the bullet before slotting it in. As long as the bullet itself hits the target and not just spell exploding out of it, it should work as intended.

ENOUGH ABOUT RAPING AND GAPING
>>98276686Hmmm... That poses a pretty big question. Does the spell get triggered on hit, or just on shot? Venomous Weapon is one part of the question, but also what spells would be good on it? Would spells that normally trigger around the caster be better (because they trigger on contact) or that travel (because they need to get to the target from the shooter)?

>>98276750Reading the description again the spell is triggered on "shot" so the bullet would never leave the chamber. Venomous Weapon then wouldn't work on it as the status effect wouldn't tansfer to the spell.

All he wants out of life is to eat well, horde his money, collect hundreds of wives and produce hundreds of children, and make a weapon strong enough to contend even with gods. Really, simple. It's almost funny how badly the [Overlord] managed to fuck their relationship up.See, Endymion Bruce was promised, in no uncertain terms, that all of his wildest dreams would be imagined under their guiding hand. Honeyed words, because for all the demihuman villages purged and would-be heroes quietly assassinated, the [Overlord] made one very important mistake. He hurt Bruce's bottom line. There was also some ranting about returning to Nothing and taking control and whatnot, but Endymion Bruce just thought it was crazy talk. You get that when people get strong. Regardless, he's left the [Overlord] behind, which resulted in the total destruction of his main manufacturing facilities. His competitors took advantage, obviously, and now he's in a bit of a pickle; or he would be, if a group of plucky little heroes hadn't helped him out before the [Overlord]'s goons ripped him to shreds. Now he's traveling with them; partially for revenge, partially because some of them are actually good company, partially because he can learn from them to make better weapons, and oh, who's he kidding, it's because he wants to capture the [Overlord]'s soul in a bottle and torture it for all eternity. And if he makes a couple of friends and a lot of money along the way, well, how could he complain?

>>98277141>Starcraft2GhostQuotes.mp3Elemental Obliteration might be a bit of overkill in favour of things like METAL, FORGE, IMBUE and AMP;(ESS) to represent his Super Rifle and hyperfocus but that's just me. Very neat idea either way and it's some good insight into the Elves as a society rather than some of our wanderers.
>>98277175>overkillAnon, but that's the point.
>>98277207Oh no I fully getcha, the build is fine, I just think Elemental Bomb Death Killing Blow already kills most anything immediately and probably would've put more points into his gun being good, but this is great. It might even be a bit comedic (in a good way) since he doesn't have MP REGEN and might burn through most of his reserves throwing out an Obliteration which is great scene fodder.
>>98277207Completely and utterly based and destruction-pilled
>>98277227nta, but he's making his spells in advance so he's literally never running out of mp mid-combat, only ever running out of bullets.

>>98277234>Bro's got thermonuclear warheads in his pocketEven funnier. The camp is literally one freaky dispel away from detonating his entire workshop and some of the more disciplined mages are gonna freak out when they realize what he has lying around, but that fits his character.
>>98277235Nta but yes I feel like that's the fair balancing side to it. Anyone bulletmaxxing is going to be working with limited rounds (unless they build a particular way).
>>98277235Yeah but you're still comparing days or weeks of mp against someone with just their mana pool. It'd probably take a lot of back-to-back combat or just very wasteful fighting to run him out. Once he does run out he's cooked though. If there's ever a war arc with daily battles I feel like he'd constantly be running on fumes.>>98277242Also you'd have similar funny shit, like when someone realizes the cute little flock of butterflies Noire made are equal to 8 obliteration spells each and how Abby just casually ate one without even thinking about it. The amount of firepower laying around in unexpected places is pretty silly.
>>98277277How do different multiplier powers stack? What's equal to more obliterations, the x8 butterfly or a bullet that's:x3 from a-castx2 from spellmod+x1.9 ("almost doubling") from advele? Are those multiplicative or additive?
>>98277312>the x8 butterflyThat butterfly is actually x2+x4+x8, not just x8.If we go by classic jrpg rules, which is what this is based on, buffs tend to be additive from what I remember. Multiplicative buffs are pretty rare.
>>98277312Additive seems more reasonable to prevent exponential scaling but there's no direct indication either way.
All that only to knock Chief Boblin into his second phase...
>>98277343Chief Boblin is our Tonberry I see.>Small>Unassuming>Silly little guy>Oneshots your endgame build in a random encounter because you weren't paying attention
Spellmod seems to directly scale benefits of the cast so that one might be multiplicative, but the more important question is why are people just casually carrying bags of hydrogen bomb equivalents? Base Obliteration eradicates everything for miles around and it gets multiplied multiple times. Tsar Bomba's blast radius was 22 miles...

>>98277418As the other anons said, the idea is once you come to a realization about the universe/yourself through true understanding (deeper than just theory and practice, you have to 'become' it) then you receive an edge of metaphysical power that makes you better at the vibe.CHAKRA implies that it's some form of metaphysical energy or concept that flows through your body and brain and soul but it's distinct from MP and whatever the hell STA is, which builds up in the body like humors.
>>98277452>CHAKRA implies that it's some form of metaphysical energy or concept that flows through your body and brain and soul but it's distinct from MP and whatever the hell STA is, which builds up in the body like humors.Actually, CHAKRA seems to imply that it just kinda floats around you, or you produce it, and by learning CHAKRA you can make it flow inside you. Normally it doesn't.
>>98277474I read it again and yeah fair enough, the difference between just letting it hang out vs. structuring its flow through you to augment its efficiency, makes sense.

>>98271874Sorry for late response, I've been pretty busy the last few days. Sounds cool! I'd be fine with friends or besties, Keetran seems like the kind of popular and friendly guy that Oswin would naturally associate himself with. Any idea on how they met/close they are? They don't have many overlapping abilities besides Earth and MP Regen, so they likely didn't have many of the same classes (unless it was something outside of powers, like history or theology or something). Just recognized each other's families and started hanging out since they're both Nobles? Oswin made Keetran an instrument, or the pair tried (and likely failed) to record some of Keetran's music? They met at a party and started hanging out after classes or started a club together?>>98274924I kind of like the idea of Oswin financing or hiring the early party before eventually joining up with them, but feel free to ignore that if it'd be too difficult to work in. I want to start up and finish the relationship chart I'm drafting before anything else, so I can always do the quest giver stuff for his intro writefag when I get to that.

>>98278406Pretty sure Hammer is supposed to be that but I guess Armor works too
how do cities exist if a random adventurer can sneeze and destroy the galaxy?
>>98278410Yeah I'm just illiterate. Hammer is quite literally exactly what I wanted.
>>98278428They're made of material stronger than adventurer sneezes and also only our PCs are that strong
>>98278410I also expect just the base element purchase is enough to give a little extra umph to your punches.
>>98278450>only our PCs are that strongThis causes so many fucking problems.
>>98278458Don't worry, ancient dragons can make them sweat lightly
>>98278464Maybe we can get some alley hobos to beat everyone within an inch of their life so they lose all their powers and have to start adventuring to get them back.
>>98278476Our PCs are so strong that even pipe-wielding hobos are RAPED and GAPED instantly
>>98278479Then there is no hope.We can't adventure.
With Caligo, would people be okay with him displaying more abilities than his build dictates? I could always have his undead use the same spells by proxy if need be though. The thought came about from thinking that a portal spell would be appropriate for him to traverse between his archives, of course his build can’t afford that, unless you allow LICH to work as knowledge absorption. Again Caligo is a neutral party within this whole ordeal, an information broker and researcher mostly.
>>98278730I feel like if you have to take concessions power wise to make the character work it shouldn't have been done
>>98276176All of this sounds good.>>98276219And I'd actually rather we try to stick to the CYOA's setting rather than make up our own.>>98277598Hey, some good questions! I was thinking they didn't actually meet until college, but managed to recognize one another quickly enough ("Crowe?" "Yep. Rowendale?"), maybe... initial contact in History, proper connection made at a party shortly after. They became freinds but... it's complicated, because what Oswin does IS heresy. Keet will cover for Oswin if he really has to, but it's a source of inner turmoil for him to resolve.>InstrumentYes, possibly more than one. Some string instrument most likely. Lyre?>Failed recordingYES, I love it.>>98277661And this is why, broadly speaking at least.
>>98278733Minions it is.
>>98273121What does each build think of murder and killing? Would they ignore hostage situations and not care? Or perhaps the BBEG has a swirling shield of 20,000 toddlers what would they do?
>>98278218Very cool anon, I like the ideaTrue piece of shit infiltrator build, an evil dude's dream spy
>>98278788i don't know how evil I should have Greed be desu, especially since the villain party isn't even 100% a thing yet I thinkThere's a sliding scale ofGilgamesh <----------------> Kefka in terms of evilness and being able to play nice with the party, and her being the type to splatter 2000 babies would make possibly allying with the party difficult in possible lieu of better options.
>>98278794Thanks, I'm just glad no one got to the idea before me. >an evil dude's dream spyWhich sucks cause there's no evil guy to work under...>>98278862I don't know who are the candidates for the villain party vs who's just morally corrupt but I'm cool with signing up for the bad guys if that was something people were gonna do. >>98278730If caligo anon is looking for an assistant I feel like I could easily write some kind of deal between the two. Mysterious lich and some infiltrating shapeshifter that likes to learn about weird people should have more than a couple reasons and benefits to exchange data.
>>98278788Jacker doesn’t have a strict no kill rule. In general, he worries most about the safety of civilians and the little guy, so if a villain is too dangerous or too much of a threat Jacker won’t hesitate to put an arrow between their eyes. That doesn’t mean he can’t see someone redeem themselves, though. Now that I think about it, if I had one extra point or two I’d give him the music skill so he can play an ocarina or something. Would be funny
>>98278917Perhaps not an assistant directly, but I would assume they would have a cordial relationship with eachother from exchanging information over the years. Mutually beneficial deals and the sorts. He would love conversing with such an complex being aswell.
>>98278788Caligo is indifferent, unless they are an interesting soul, one pushing themselves or mapping out the complexities of truth. Then perhaps he would feel a modicum of disappointment at the wastage. If they are of particular note, he may personally pluck their soul from the grasp of death and offer them a deal.
>>98277491I just tried to combined what >>98276882 and >>98276917 told me with what I found in NPC section of the cyoa (Alfher Nikomachos in the Mage section). Based on the snippets in there, there are elven cities and elven forests, although they aren't just tree huggers but are more into arcane-tech. They are nominally part of human kingdoms, but vie for power with them. They are rather strict when it comes to rules and proper methodology, at least in the open. Beneath that there is scheming, politics and debauchery. Also. they have their own nobles and armies.I think Elves being centered around woods would still be good, and the kingdom Lugos comes from is described as having adverse land conditions being cut off by mountains and mainly island based, so I feel like that might be hard to compromise, unless it's specified that, while nominally Aestus has a rich forest, due to the tension with the Elves who rule there in practice, the human access to the forest resources is greatly limited and needs to be exchanged for the bounty from human mines and industries. Maybe the elven forest that covers part of the mountain's foothold and is one of the extra traversal limitations that spurred the humans to focus on seafaring. The elven support would then also likely play part in Aestus' succession crisis, with some heirs vying for an alliance, and some maybe playing off the populist views of subduing the unruly elven vassal.Since the travel out of the kingdom would be difficult due to the mountain range, seeking passage on a human ship would make sense for Alvor. Elven gun autist being tard wrangled before he could cause trouble by a prince leaving on his exile sounds like it could work.>>98277963Also not sure if it fits aesthetically, and Nowan seems to be on the "bad side", so that makes getting that three musketeer vibe even harder. They were mostly fencing rather than using muskets anyway.
>cutting logs>mining rocksBro just ask the mage to summon a city out of thin air. It skips literally billions of manhours of labor.
>>98279499The peasants are cheaper long term.
>>98279507Cheaper implies an associated monetary cost.I struggle to think of any way in which money would hold value to these adventurers.
>>98279512What holds value to them? Why can't it be bought?
how do you write dialogue if you are an unsociable loser that has little to no social experience outside of a screen?
>>98279615Have the characters text eachother on their magical phones
>>98279615Maybe consider doing impressions of your favorite characters and imagining how they would react to plot points in their stories being altered. A bit of micro fanfiction in your head.Alternatively exaggerate and vary the personalities so it's obvious how they differ. Just look at LOTR. Frodo, Sam, and Golum are so clearly distinct that it's easy to see how they would speak differently.
>>98279413>the kingdom Lugos comes from is described as having adverse land conditions being cut off by mountains and mainly island basedI guess that's my fault for describing it badly. What I meant was that it's just too small for an expanding kingdom. It has forests and fields, but just not enough for how many people there are and the mountains make it impossible to expand on land so they turned to the sea.Having said that, the elves being another barrier for expansion fits really well.> while nominally Aestus has a rich forest, due to the tension with the Elves who rule there in practice, the human access to the forest resources is greatly limited and needs to be exchanged for the bounty from human mines and industries. The feud probably goes back a long time, since the first expansion of the kingdom when they would have needed materials the most so they started deforesting, and the elves of course didn't like that. The tensions only lessened when the humans got to the mines and started trading, but never quite ceased.>Since the travel out of the kingdom would be difficult due to the mountain range, seeking passage on a human ship would make sense for Alvor. Elven gun autist being tard wrangled before he could cause trouble by a prince leaving on his exile sounds like it could work.I find it particularly funny that in this situation they both defy expectations. Alvor looks like the serious and calm type, but his singleminded focus and lack of manners would get him in trouble. While Lugos lokks more like a fun loving troublemaker but is actually very diplomatic when dealing with people.I can see them meeting at the check in just as Alvor was about to blow it up because they didn't want to let him on the ship, and Lugos pretending he was an old friend to defuse the situation. I'm starting to get an idea for a piece about this, it could be a cool intro, and it wouldn't be a solo piece for once.
>>98279413>>98279700>The elven support would then also likely play part in Aestus' succession crisis, with some heirs vying for an alliance, and some maybe playing off the populist views of subduing the unruly elven vassal.Depending on how we go about that the kingdom could be very different by the time they come back, if they ever do. I had the idea that each heir would be using different tactics, and one of those would be riling up the populace. If she goes too far with that and the promises she makes the elves may attack first just to prevent the problem, that's the logical thing to do.I would assume Alvor doesn't know who Lugos is at first right? He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that keeps up with foreign politics, or politics in general.
>>98279617Ah, the homestuck method
>>98279615Most dialogue in most fiction sounds absolutely nothing like people actually speak. The main things to remember are;>Characters should be talking about something 'important' e.g. the plot of the writefag, try to minimize filler dialogue unless it serves no. 2>Characters should be doing things that exaggerate or define their characters, you don't want to overdo it with the clumsy character tripping over every sentence or the racist character turning into a certain local meme, but once or twice per short story does a lot>Characters should have a way of speaking, this doesn't mean everyone speaks radically differently (and is impossible without making really silly keyphrases) but the eloquent character should remain eloquent, the aggressive character should remain aggressive, etc.
For the record, my internet is shitting itself, so I can't be relied on to threadslave this time.
>>98280189I'll get on it then. Thanks for the heads up.
>>98280239>>98280239>>98280239Hogs, I'm fucking boiling, but the new thread is up. Fuck this weather.
>>98278788Cyreina has no qualms about killing. She would also try to save hostages if she can, but if the BBEG is literally in front of her killing him takes priority over anything else
>>98279700The forestry would be important for the humans because of the need for wood for shipbuilding, so it's another point that would make elves an important figure in the succession crisis. I suspect elves would be the premier arborists too, so even if humans would managed to subjugate them, it could be another reason to keep them around rather than completely pushing them out (assuming the imbalance of power was so great that was an option; it could have been more of a stalemate).>>98279707Makes sense, although I feel like it'd be simpler for them to ally with one of the other princesses. And yeah. He certainly wouldn't recognize him, and the chance of him even knowing the wider state of the kingdom politics enough to know that a prince like that exists are minuscule. If pressed, he might remember to address Lugos by his title around one in four times, but given the situation I doubt Lugos would want that.
>>98278788>What does each build think of murder and killing?Noire is pretty strongly against it. Doesn't even like killing monsters even if she understands it. Hostages are very effective against her, and she doesn't have a good solution for it.
>>98278788Abby doesn't exactly desire to kill, but most things end up dead when you start taking chunks out of them, and she doesn't have any qualms when it comes to sating her hunger. Hostages wouldn't be an effective deterrent both because they look like free meals and general recklessness. That said, she is trying to comply at least somewhat with whatever rules the party imposes on her and will try to follow their consensus on things like that. She'll choose what benefits her most at this point if put in a tough spot, and if she's been heavily injured she'll go into a bit of a frenzy. Her general recklessness could be curbed relatively quickly as she becomes more skilled and more considerate of possibly upsetting more tender hearted party members.
