I haven't played infinity in 10 years but at the time it was completely unbalanced and broken. Anyone not playing the Chinese faction and spamming heavy machine guns literally could do nothing against such lists.
>>
>>98279873
This seems extremely unlikely. The game often is broken, but I can't remember when "Yu Jing HMGs" was ever broken.
>>
>>98279864

Why do you bake if you're so incompetent?
>>
>>98279889
Hmgs use to be deathrays in general and some of the best options to load up on in their time, but today that feels like it isn't the end all be all. I recall YuJing being super good but never oppressive and or unbeatable.

>>98280216
i failed the wip roll, despite 14 wip

Yeah, HMGs were king of weapons in like second edition, but I can't recall YuJing being their primary users. Sounds like local meta issues.

>>98281445
Yes. HMGs had a much better rangebands, and crits autowounding meant that burst was undisputed king. Plus you could get that super-HMG on anything, from line infantry to basic AD troops.

>>
>>98281491
Burst is still the undisputed king but you do want AP on your attack gun if you can get it. And a lot of stuff rolls an extra dice and just picks the best now, which has to mathematically be almost as good as just rolling the extra dice.

>>

She would obviously be way better if she was a hacker but she's OK. STR 2 for 19 points, no guns but a good suite of ways to annoy people, immune to E/M and Carbonite, Booty can get you some fun stuff, shame she doesn't have a reroll. Dodges on 15s, 6-2 move, C+ and total terrain is decent movement.

It's like a personal pick. I like this unit so I will use her. She's not bad. I think it's worse when characters are so good they are auto-picks honestly. Like I think most of the Optimates are fine because they have really strong profiles but they're usually also very expensive and/or have slightly odd kits. But then you look at Pilot X and it's just like, oh ok there is absolutely no reason not to run this in any faction which can.

Honestly Planet Shinju would be a great backdrop for a narrative campaign. I really hope that we get to go back there and flesh it out further.

Also DUNC DEEZ NUTZ.
>>
>>98301376
Is Shinju atmosphere toxic or too thin or something else? Every troop from here seems to be wearing those breathing masks but not all of them have covered entire face (still, I would rather have cute female faces without gasmasks).
>>
Dumb question, but how many factions are there? On the corvus belli store it implies there's 10, but a video I saw recently had like 45 different factions.
What's with the discrepancy?
>>
>>98302516
>Is Shinju atmosphere toxic or too thin or something else?
Yes. Thin-ish atmosphere full of dust and leftovers from some sort of planet-wide NBC war.

>>98302572
>What's with the discrepancy?
Subfactions under the 10 main ones.
>>
>>98302655
Can you use multiple subfactions in the same list of the same main faction?
>>
>>98302659
Only if their units exist in the main faction's army list.
>>
>>98302659
There's vanilla faction lists and sectorials. In the past Vanilla lists used to have almost all units(bar some special profiles), but in the latest edition the unit availability in vanilla list was cut down heavily. They got less gimped in fireteam options in return. But if you merely like the looks of certain units, the proxy rules are pretty forgiving. Just make sure it's clear what counts as what, and don't have, say, ten fusiliers with different levels of assembly count as five different units based on how many arms they have.
>>
>>98302655
>Thin-ish atmosphere full of dust and leftovers from some sort of planet-wide NBC war.

Japanese could try to steal something better than barely habitable planet. Unless it's rich in minerals or something like that.
>>
>>98302572
Factions can have sub-factions called Sectorials. Originally the "main" faction army had access to all of their units and sectorials took a much narrower roster of lore-linked units (e.g. all hailing from one planet or from one department) in exchange for some special benefits like taking more of a unit or getting access to fireteams. For example, there's the PanOceana faction, which covers a hypercorporation with presence on multiple planets (Varuna, NeoTerra, Svarlheim, etc.); the main PanO army can use any PanO unit, and each of those planets gets their own sectorial made up of only their own units.

However, after multiple generations of the game, the faction's main rosters were getting too bloated and now sectorials have a bunch of units that are exclusive to them and the main faction army can't use. There's still a lot of overlap though, so like a vanilla PanO list can still run the NeoTerran Bolts and Blockers and Aquila Guards in their list, but they can't necessarily run other NeoTerra units like Hexa or Uhlans; in return, they can mix those select NeoTerran units with, say, Varunan Helots and Svarlheimen Nokken.
>>
>>98293389
Yeah dude they absolutely butchered the faction. Not helped by the literal McDonald's colourscheme. The basic Morat solider or whatever is like twice as wide and looks perfectly fine, but every robot or elite trooper or heavy infantry is such a fucking downgrade.
>>
>>98287999
I was looking at Military Order minis and this popped up. Is this a Military Orders model?
>>
>>98304306
Military Orders are a sectorial (subfaction) of PanOceania. The Tech-Bee is a PanOceanian engineer that appears in multiple factions. MO can field her.
>>
>>98304320
I know nothing of this game or factions. There a website that explains the factions?
>>
>>98304441
What are the most popular factions? Is PanOceania one of them?
>>
>>98304441
There should be but it looks like nobody thought to fix the links on the main English website of the game to make that work.

There's the old 1d4chan summaries, but they will be somewhat out of date now: https://1d6chan.miraheze.org/wiki/Infinity_(wargame)

Or for a brief runthrough of the setting history (also a little outdated): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5GFC4VU8lk
>>
>>98304479
I honestly have no idea how overall faction popularity breaks down but it wouldn't surprise me if PanOceania (usually just called PanO) is the most popular faction overall. They've had plenty of box set releases, they were traditionally a very straightforward faction and their signature strength for most of the early editions of the game was that they were the absolute best at actually shooting things, which is ultimately what most games of Infinity come down to.

They are still the best at actually shooting things but they've gotten more complex and interesting as a faction by now.

There are a lot of hoops and steps to get there, but you can basically think of PanO as the successor to the modern, first world West within Infinity's sci-fi setting. They are 1 of 2 total and probably the premier hyperpower: controlling multiple planets, having the most advanced tech, the most resources, the position the US has occupied over most of the past century IRL. The Military Orders are the militarized arm of a revitalized Catholic church, which is a significant political power within that whole.
>>
>>98303134
It's rich in wacky alien technology.

>>98302572
>it implies there are 10
Technically one of those 10 is not really a main faction in and of itself. NA2 doesn't have a vanilla list because it's actually the Mercenaries faction. Its sectorials are created by taking units from two or three other factions and gluing them together with mercs, while the closest thing it has to vanilla is the optional ability to add Merc units to any other vanilla army (good luck finding somebody who'll let you use that).
>>
>>98304441
There's a wiki at human-sphere.com.

Also you could just look at the army builder at infinityuniverse.com/army/infinity. Click a main faction icon and you'll pick from that faction's main/vanilla force or one of their sectorials.

Are Aristeia minis pre-painted? If they aren't and they're just showing the studio paint job, then I'll wait until the model ends up in other people's hands to pass judgement.

CB's current studio painter just... can't do soft faces. At all. A LOT of newer female models looked really rough in the face on the store page and Anons were freaking out, but once people got to paint the models themselves it turned out they were fine, and the CB painter just leans way too much into deep, harsh shading.

Does Corvus Belli sell two starter sets at a time, or is Sandtrap going to get discontinued this month or the next one because of the new starter set?
I ask because I have Operation Sandtrap and want to get the Beyond pack later on, but looking at corvus belli store it seems they pack both into an action pack when the starter gets discontinued, which would saddle me with duplicate miniatures.
>>
>>98321779
I don't know if they have a rule for this stuff. I'm pretty sure some of the code one stuff was on sale together for a while. But I don't think that's a rule and Sandtrap might disappear from the CB store even if you can get it in LGSes. Email them or something probably.

At the beginning? No, either Karhu or Jotum will bring you comfortably to 300.
All three REM-boxes are great, but don't feel pressured to prioritize any of them over Karhu, although i'm biased and have 5 of them.
Personaly i like Nisse and Vargar a lot, but it's pano, pich your favourite bs13+vismod+movement skill troop and run with it.
Beasthunter are great as well. The hospitaller doc is a favourite of mine as well, but that's personal experience as he just keeps rolling good.

If this is your start with infinity play some 150 or 200 point games first to get used to the rules and ARO system. Abd be prepared to make many mistakes that in hindsight will make you feel dumb, we all have been there. Full 300pts worth of stuff can be overwhelming at first.

Still contemplating Warcrow. There's absolutely no scene where I am and I can't say I like any faction individually but all of them have at least some models that I think are great, like this dude with the weeping & clutching hands on his armor.

I think the Scions interest me the most overall but apparently they're like a high finesse faction? Undead but not actually that durable?
>>
>>98328183
Imo big gun with AP SHOULD work against high ARM targets, that is its whole point. Before when crits meant auto damage you could just give any chucklefuck a Spitfire and pump enough orders into him to Crit Jotumn do death.
>>
>>98328520
Yeah but it led to a lot of weapon creep where units just got AP HMGs or AP Spitfires. I'm not sure it actually fixed anything, it just changed how you think about your main gunfighters and narrowed the available profiles.

Getting back into the game after taking a break around the start of n4. I've played 3 games so far in n5 and gotten my ass kicked.
This is a list I'm planning on trying. Using Joan running with the Lt and Montesa, and DeFersen moving with the Teutons. The Hacker and Konstantinos will set up pitchers and disco to cover.
My local meta is the american table meme where the terrain is super dense, and the other players tend to close the gap really well. Im hoping that setting up pitchers with DeFersen will help slow them down, while the discos help me get into better positions, because mimitism is pretty common too. I want to get a Tikbalang eventually, to have another big gun on the field
>>
>>98342349
I think there's optimising you can do but give it a try and see what works. De Fersen is one of the best hacking threats in the entire game but you want to have a network for him.
>>
What is the current state of the game? Anything memeworthy that is blatantly OP or complete garbo? Which faction sucks ass rn?

What's the deal with JSA these days? It's been a few years since I played Infinity and I'd just started to build a new JSA army before real life got in the way, It looks like they've been promoted to a full army with a few sectorials now.
Annoyingly it looks like the contents of the uprising era army pack I bought back then have been split across a bunch of different boxes now so it looks like I'll have to buy a bunch of duplicates in the process of expanding.

NTA but it would be easier if they made it properly playable with 4 players from the start. And still, I heard that 4 player mode plays odd.
>>
>>98345743
You pretty much got it. Full faction, two sectorials. It is annoying for previous JSA sectorial players to an extent, but they are also a much better army than they used to be. They are the unquestionable best CC faction in N5 and CC is arguably less of a meme than it used to be.

I keep scratching my head at FT Master (Unit X). To my understanding, it will grant its benefits to any fireteam member, not just Unit X. Having Unit X as part of the fireteam is actually a pure drawback, as it creates a second condition for breaking the fireteam. This can't be right?
>>
>>98351089
How are we feeling about 4-TAG Corregidor or OCF lists?
>>
>>98354078
By how rules are formulated, it appears so.

>In the Order Count step of the Tactical Phase, if this Trooper is part of a Fireteam, all the members of that Fireteam are Regular.
>If all members of the Fireteam already have the Regular Characteristic on their Unit Profile, apply a +2 inch bonus to the Team Leader's Zone of Control when making Coherency Checks for the Fireteam.

The only thing that Unix X is doing is that once FT Master somehow leave fireteam that contains this unit, it is automatically broken.

>>
File: old marut.png (1.93 MB, 1452x1053)
1.93 MB PNG
>>98362932
It's objectively fine. I don't mind that it gets busy in the midpoint of the model because the head is clean and the multi-armed thing kinda works for ALEPH's divine/myth vibes. I do think the pose is a little boring but it's a Strategos unit and they probably wanted to give it a less action-driven pose.

I think it loses to the old Marut not in that the sculpting is any worse but in that the old Marut was extremely distinctive looking. It's one of these examples of creating iconic elements in the original design that are then abandoned. Sometimes the newer model is technically better but less interesting: a lot of the resculpted Nomad TAGs ended up like this, but I appreciate they still kept the Lizard (and added the Stigmata) looking weird. The new Marut looks like just another robot. The posing is also much better in the old Marut model.

I do like that they channeled the 'yudbots are mini Maruts' thing into giving OSS robots that actually are mini-Maruts are units in the latest expansion, even though it doesn't then really make sense that those units are mono CCW close combat deathbots if that's the theme.
>>
Like I love this model, I wish I had gotten one before it went OOP. It looks right out of some cyberpunk anime I never saw. The tight little cramped cockpit with the Landsmate arms, just this kind of industrial solid lump in the middle with these thinner limbs branching off, two-toed sorta hoof mecha feet but these animalistic claw hands with ammo belts coming off them. And the multi-windowed 'fly eye' head which you can just instantly intuit the pilot's head in and image all sorts of optic feeds coming in.

It's visually so interesting, and it really looks like what it is: like the Nomads bought up some stock of generic chassis and then went nuts pushing it to the limit with their own weird tech and designs. I understand the sculpting by modern Infinity standards was poor...
>>
>>98364790
...but when I look at the new one, I pretty much think "well this is super generic but I like that it has the high heels because at least that makes it look a little weird like the old Lizard".

That is maybe a little harsh, I do think the legs as a whole are a really interesting design and I like the odd shoulder cube breaking up the silhouette. But sometimes these Infinity design guys don't realise what they got.

>A novel by John Leibee

>One hundred and eighty years in the future, humankind has expanded across the cosmos. On the dangerous frontiers of Dawn, the Atek descendants of the lost colony ship Ariadna struggle to hold on to what little they have, and none are more vicious and backwards than the Caledonian Highlanders.

>Lieutenant Wilhelm Gotzinger III gave everything to PanOceania, and in return, he was court-martialed, demoted, and disgraced. Assigned to a diplomatic attaché at a remote outpost on Dawn, he’s holding out hope that this terrible assignment is his chance to fade into comfortable obscurity.

>Instead, Dawn bares her claws. His transport is shot down. The Caledonians find him. He’s taken prisoner.

>Stripped of his technology and weaponry, Wil still has his wits, his fists, and skills honed across a lifetime spent in interstellar battlefields and Neoterran back alleys. But amidst his escape, he uncovers an alien conspiracy that places both PanOceanian and Ariadnan lives at risk. The only allies he can turn to—that he must learn to trust—are the Highlanders who took him captive, chief among them enigmatic half-human hybrid Saoirse Clarke.

>All he needs to do to return home is overcome decades of animosity, convince the clan chieftain to act, and face down an army of horrors with only an outdated rifle, his old Aquila duster, and a broken multispectral visor.

<Time is of the essence. The fate of many rests on a monomolecular edge.

Friendship with ALEPH has ended. Now Caledonia is my best friend.

Returning player here. I gather that most people just don't touch reinforcements, but could somebody clarify how they are supposed to be balanced when optional?
Specifically, can you have a match where only one player uses reinforcements? If so, would the player with reinforcements have 350 points while the opponent stays at 300? And how do tournaments usually adjudicate it?
>>
>>98376939
>can you have a match where only one player uses reinforcements?
You can do whatever you want, m8.
>how do tournaments usually adjudicate it?
The ITS rules do not permit it, if Reinforcements is enabled then both players are required to use it.
The Reinforcements rules also say that, but not quite as explicitly.
>With this Extra, each player’s Army List is divided into a Main Section and a Reinforcement Section.
>The player must assign a total of 100 points and 2 SWC to build their Reinforcements Section, and the rest of the points and SWC to build their Main Section.
