In D&D3e, a pot of boiling water does "scalding damage".
Nothing explicitly resists, or is immune to, scalding damage.
>>
>>98303739
By that logic White dragons die in cold climate
>>
>>98303739
What worldbuilding settingcraft?
>>
>>98303739
>mixing elements deals typeless damage
Lame but an understandable compromise
>>
>>98303739
That's just plasma damage type.
>>
>>98303739
Damage resistance in general does that unless specified.
>>
>>98303739
>3e faggot using literal-minded rule-lawyering
Pottery

>a pot of boiling water does "scalding damage".
Makes sense. It's not elemental fire, after all.
You could boil a red dragon and that sounds pretty cool.
>>
I'm so fucking glad my playgroup consists of players who never got that particular brainrot.
>>
>>98304223
You can, it's actually pretty effective. You can't burn it though
>>98304421
>>98303914
>heh, boiling water is totally heat based damage!
Wrong.
>>
>>98304079
Under heat dangers in the environment chapter. Scalding damage being typeless is definitely RAW in 3.5, though I've never played at a table that treated it as such.

White dragons have cold immunity

D&D 3.5 often neglects to specify a damage type, and leaves it to you to just use your best judgement.
For example, in the very next paragraph, "Catching on fire" pg 303-304
>Characters at risk of catching fire are allowed a DC 15 Reflex save to avoid this fate. If a character’s clothes or hair catch fire, he takes 1d6 points of damage immediately.
It doesn't specify he takes fire damage. Just damage.
But obviously catching on fire means that you should take fire damage.
>>
>>98303739
Sorry anon, i homebrewed the monster, it has scalding damage immunity.
>>
Do y'all really have nothing better to do than respond to the most obvious bait to ever bait? Like, can't you guys paint your models, plan your next campaign, smoke weed, jerk off or suicide ideate or something instead?

Anything else?
>>
>>98304996
Thanks for taking a short break in your jerking off, weed smoking, and ideating suicide to give us that important message
>>
>>98305008
No problem, nigga.
>>
>>98303739
3e? Oh boy!
>Boiling water causes scalding damage
I boil the water in my enemy's body. It has no defense.
>>
>>98305011
<3 (*^_^) <3
>>
>>98304751
Where did I say damage resistance didn't apply? I just gave anon the source in 3.5.
I'd argue that typeless isn't "normal" in the sense that nearly every damage source the PCs have acces to is typed, but DR applies for sure.
>>
>>98305103
>>98304085
>that wasn't me!
You're just as dumb, hard to tell it apart.
>>
>>98304751
That says from normal attacks you dumb fuck
>>
>>98305507
Boiling water is a normal attack retard.
>>
>>98304996
So tired of stupid nonces like you making this post every time like you don't know that if you ignore a spam thread, then the retard who made it just samefags it until people do reply.
>>
>>98305131
Heroes of battle makes it clear that scalding damage is fire damage, and thus damage reduction would not apply
>>
>>98305515
That's neither a weapon or natural attack, no.
>>98305531
Just ignore the diarrhea on your sidewalk everyday, who cares??
>>
>>98305537
>water isn't natural
lmao okay anon make sure you have every catagory for all different things and line them up. No gaming until you've modelled all things in the universe.
>>
>>98304951
Everyone likes Pokémon, not just weebs, you stupid Redditor.
>>
>>98305008
>>98305531
Why do you guys get angry when someone tells the truth?
>>
>>98305542
Using boiling water is something artificial, yeah.

I'm
>>98305008
and
>>98305073
How did you know I was secretly angry??? :O
>>
>damage types autism
thank you for reminding me why DnD is a terrible game. No other game attracts this level of rules lawyer faggotry
>>
>>98305595
>No other game attracts this level of rules lawyer faggotry
Have you ever played another game?
>>
In all seriousness though why wouldn't it be fire/heat based damage? The damage is coming from the temperature, not the water.
>>
>>98305621
Any reasonable DM would say it's fire damage for purposes of resistance/immunity.
All this arguing is pointless, because D&D 3.5 is not an air-tight ruleset, and wasn't intended to be.
>>
>>98305531
>"I bit the hook because otherwise..."

No seriously I don't even see the hypothetical consequences of not doing that.

Yeah. If there isn't something you're genuinely interested in discussing and you don't have anything of value to contribute to the board, leave.

Would you like me to say no u or do you see the irony here?

Nope. I've contributed to the board. You haven't, and you don't intend you. You lose.

>>98304086
I had this discussion with one of my players playing GURPS because GURPS Magic is so badly formatted they forgot to use 4e damage types at times
>>
>>98305515
Any source of damage that isn't specified to be something else is normal damage.
You people are so fucking stupid.
>>
If someone throws an onion at your head, you don't need onion resistance.
>>
>>98303739
Are you one of those faggots who cast illumination and then insist they defeated [insert whatever it was cast on], due to the ambiguity of wording that it then disappears (the illumination, not the object it was cast on)? Because sure sound like one
>>
>>98306444
Prove what? He didn't make any claim about any build.
>>
>>98305542
Please look up what a natural attack is to find as in 3.5 D&D
>>
>>98306156
So lava doesn't count as fire just because it's boiling stone?
>>
>>98314941
Nope, lava is untyped lethal damage that isn't fire damage, fire resistance or immunity confers immunity to lava though.
>>
>>98304751
I wish topless damage was real
the damage you take is arousal and ultimately the embarrassment of a public boner haha
>>
>>98304421
Me too. But rule 0 lets you interpret it however you wish anyway, so this kind of brain rot doesn't really matter much.
>>
>>98303888
Okay, I smirked.
>>
>>98316234
It is categorically defined as fire damage, I'm not sure what you think you are smoking.
