Which one is the worst?
>>98306412>>98306429>>98306451You should use lights styled as little candles or braziers around the property.
>tqThe high elf box is probably the best one because you can double up on it and be happy.
>>98306803other than using the hero on foot and turning the hawk into a lone great eagle, what are some uses for the sky boat?
>tq I think the empire is the most improved and it might one day tempt me,As a beastfag who already bought the old battallion, the new box may one day also tempt me as well, as I dont have any Bestigors or Warhounds, though I still have 20 ungor on sprue and 15 gors.Love the diversity of the O&G box
>>98306816The sky boat is simply really good with the mini bolt thrower. It’s very versatile for its point cost, running 2 of them is a good idea imo.
>>98306862Indeed. But here’s what I am wondering. Why are the TK and WE battle march lists non existent? Makes me think that they might actually get that vs box that rumour mongers mentioned a while ago
>>98306789>TQ>Which Battle March box is the best in your opinion?Empire and Beastmen are the only ones that look like an actual small force to me. Proper regiments of 'common' troops and low-power characters. Why on earth would a small warband have two gyrocopters, a lothern skycutter, or a royal pegasus (other than for 'centrepiece' slop and to shift surplus stock)>Which one is the worst?Helves for the MSU/skycutter combo.Special mention to O&G for having 3 fast moving units that will zip off up the table and leave the 1(one) undersized infantry unit (in an O&G army of all things) alone to defend itself. And a single solitary goblin shaman on foot who will have to hug the unit of 15 orcs like his life depended on it, wtf is that. He's not even acknowledged in the tactics section.
>>98306883The High Elves MSU is what makes it so good, maybe not for actual battle march idk or really care, but for building a High Elves army it’s GOATed. You buy two and have full units of everything except the shadow warriors/sisters of averlorn, but those come in cheaper boxes of 10 anyways. And no fugly ancient high elf militia models this time.
>>98306888oh yeah agreed, I was only considering their use for battle march. I quite like the O&G set too if we're talking about buying two for larger games.
>>98306789>bestFrom a competitive standpoint, the Cathayan one hands down. A shogungen General is fucking ridiculous at this level. Despite the very mixed response, I think the Orc BM set is not as bad as people make out. Orc BSB inside the orc unit, gob shaman beside it. Wolf riders screen the boars. Boars and chariot ram hard into a single target and try to fold an army from the flank. >worstAlso Cathay, by simply being so OP compared to the rest.
is there any way to make dwarfs that1: isnt miserable for your opponent to face2: can actually winor are these two things just flatly inverse for dwarfs? i feel like every time i ease up on the copters, bullets and cannon balls and start running more axes and hammers i just get absolutely clobbered. but when i run gunline or vietnam apache formations i get a lot of eyerolls when deploying my army and i can tell the opponent would rather be anywhere else.
>>98306917Have you considered Slayer Host?
Man... I just can't stand hiperdetailed models. They just look so bad when ranked up, I can't even identify which unit is which one from a tabletop distance. After painting a unit of Kill Team Ork kommandos (just 10 freaking models) I REALLY was done, it was torture, i dreaded every second of it. It took me 2 weeks to paint 10 fucking ork models. Now I'm painting a unit of 20 metal 6 edition dark evles executioners and oh boy... it's so simple... so satisfying... LOOKS SO GOOD as a unit. I think I can have them done in a week. A unit of 20.
>>98306926i've got 20 slayers but i havent run a whole army of them. but whenever i've run slayers they just get lifted off the table from a slight breeze and rarely connect with anything meaningful.
SDS path to glory.1) Introduce Battle March. Update the mini range via new Battle March forces. Maximise FOMO release schedule. Better for inventory management - e.g bring out a Savage Orc box.2) Release a new version of Mordheim. Use to update characters and add some flavour units. New Slayers? Mordheim warband. Daemon slayers, dragon slayers, giant slayers, troll slayers. New free company militia? New warband. New captains, warrior priests, witch hunters and regular FCM.3) New siege rules. Bring back the fortress and siege equipment.4) Release a new version of Mighty Empires that combines the three levels together into combined campaigns. Explore a ruined city, break out into Mordheim. Border skirmishes and vanguard actions, Battle March. Large battles then use ToW. Finally you got your sieges. Groups can then pick and choose how much of each level of play they'd like.If done right would bring back the soul to Warhammer.
>>98306965Prepainted terrain and Mordheim could be interesting.
>>98306877Yeah somethings definitely fishy about it
>>98306964Isn’t that kinda what you want? If they die you get the points right?
>>98306965Isn't there a rumour of new Siege stuff coming for TOW at some point?
>>98307006Yeah ancient rumor monger Hastings said that a Warhammer Siege type supplement was coming to TOW along with a Warhammer Fortress type release iirc
>>98306789>TQI am sure that the Good Guys, the Main Characters of this setting - which is the Empire of Man - will get the next box WITH BRAND NEW MODELS.
>>98306969>>98306965> new MordheimHow about you fuck off?Mordheim doesn't need a new edition. It works fine, it has players and model options are bountiful. It does not need a remake to make it more convenient, the people who Mordheim appeals to are already playing it.
>>98306964the solo dude with impact is kinda good. But yeah, not having armor in the game is shit
>>98306965>>98306969prepainted terrain are for standardised tourneyfaggotry, not modularity or hobby groupsnew mordheim terrain or new siege scenery would not be prepaintedthere are also very little chances of a mordheim revival because the specialist team already has its budget thin and will rather use that for tow products than mordheim products, regardless of how cross compatible they would be, they have a limited space for manoeuvre within gw
>>98307141Yeah I don’t really see the appeal of reviving Mordheim either. As others said, the people playing it currently are happy and don’t need GW to create a new version. We’ve seen what they’ve done with the Necromunda revival, dumbing it down greatly, and still this next edition will be ever further simplified. We don’t need that for Mordheim. And better to keep the resources maxed on TOW now that HH seems to be dying too
>>98307155why is HH dying now?SDS could also cut some of the smaller games like LI since i can't imagine that has an extremely healthy player base
>>98307169Just general engagement online. Winters made a video on how it’s been losing popularity and you can see a lot of people echoing his statements. Also unlike TOW, they don’t have any central databases for tournaments so tracking it definitively is near impossible. But looking at general sentiment and online engagement. There’s also less tangible measures like how their fomo battlegroup boxes don’t sell out, but I admit that could be due to overproduction. And yeah LIGMA is completely dead in the water, HH is only in bad shape, LIGMA never really had signs of life and it seems GW has abandoned it apart from the 1-2 kits per year they pump out so no one can say they officially pulled the plug this fast.
>>98307182>general engagement online.I was curious and checked out the subreddit numbers. Yeah yeah I know but it gives decent info at a glance. The 30k one has 78k weekly visitors and 2.5k contributions, whereas the warhammer fantasy one has 65k and 2.7k respectively for comparison. Now, I assume the 30k one gets their visitors boosted from 40k fans and secondaries checking things out so the weekly contributions are probably more relevant, but even then it seems fairly comparable. Especially given than tow just got a bunch of news and releases. I don't think horus heresy is doing that bad.For completion's sake, aos is apparently sitting at around 3.2k contributions, and 40k at fucking 27k. Legions imperialis... at 172.
>>98306342
>>98306342does anyone have a pic of that converted beastmen standard bearer with a naked woman's body hanging upside down from his banner ?
>>98307119>How about you fuck off? Why? If you're content with Mordheim as is then why should you care if it gets a new release?I'd love a new Mordheim release.
>>98307199Look at YouTube engagement for HH both on the official Warhammer channel and HH channels. It’s dire
>>98306789>TQI ran a battlemarch event yesterday, great format btw, you get a load of the flavour of the full game in a much more manageable format. And I think for BM specifically the OnG box is great. 20 Orcs is a really tough brick at that points level and the chariot and boars will hit like a ton of bricks. Having a character for each unit is good too. Personally I think I'd change around the wolf riders a bit rather than run them straight out of the box, maybe swap them out for squigs of some type, or perhaps even trolls. But yeah I think it's a pretty sweet box, blows the battalion box out of the water, although that's not a high bar. Curious on the price though, that'll be the make or break I think.
>>98307155the gaming groups who are happy with previous rules and models for mordheim have absolutely no reason to say anything against new rules, let alone models to add to their pool of resources, for mordheimthe only people who would have a problem are ones who do NOT have a gaming group of people to play old mordheim with but wish they did and think a new edition of mordheim will make it harder for them to find people willing to play the old rules, but it's all moot because they weren't going to find people to play old mordheim with anyway
>>98306930Lotta words to say>I'm lazy and have no tasteanon.
>>98307257>less than half the views of tow>less than a third of AoS>less than necromundaAlright okay nevermind it is dire
>>98307286NTA but I've seen multiple people actively into Epic begrudge LI for "splitting the playerbase" or whatever when it came out, although LI has basically completely died so I don't think that's still an issue.
>>98307234Because GW releasing a new version of an old Specialist Game instantly butchers the existing community and strangles recruitment, making it almost impossible to play the original version unless you already had a small tight-knit group already, at which point said group is only going to survive a matter of time as people move around for work or leave the hobby or drop dead.Nucromunda killed NCE. nuBB killed LRB BB. A new Mordheim edition would do the same to classic Mordheim, a game that already has more content with more playtesting than GW could produce in two decades of their SGS FOMO drug pusher release schedule and is available online right now completely free for anyone who wants to play it.If you like Mordheim, Mordheim exists. If you don't like Mordheim and want a new, Flanderized, DEI-riddled faggoty "update" version from GW, then fuck off.
>>98307306>randomly injects his politics into a discussion about game rules
>>98307306>Because GW releasing a new version of an old Specialist Game instantly butchers the existing communityThat only tells me that people want a new release. If they were happy with what they had then they wouldn't need to change over.
>>98307346There's a difference between releasing a new edition and just restocking the same version of a game.
>>98306930Agreed, seems like new tOW sculpts aren't quite as bad as the stuff AoS or 40K is getting but honestly hand sculpted metal models are still peak
>>98307351Yeah, those are different things for sure.If people are happy with the current edition though they needn't play the new one.
>>98307365The actual issue with releasing a new edition is people wanting to prefer that version because it's "official". Like how some people don't mind using 3rd party minis for their armies, but others HAVE to use GW minis because they are official.Of course not everyone will flock to that hypothetical new edition, but it will have an impact on that community for the old one regardless if the new one is superior or not.
>>98307379This is spot on, there are people out there obsessed with playing the "officially support" rules, even if they're objectively worse than fan rules or editions, it's baffling
>>98307306wasn't new BB literally just the old rules with the fanmade errata for them everyone were already using?
>>98307075Empire is not the MC of TOW though, that would be cathay
>>98307379Plus the inevitable purge of 3rd party models and STLs.
>>98307404I have no stake in mordheim vs nuheim or whatever but those STLs look like shit, I'd be glad to see them taken down
>>98307395>there are people out there obsessed with playing the "officially support" rules, even if they're objectively worse than fan rules or editionsExactly the point I was making. This phenomenon happened to WHFB- older editions, 9th Age, when TOW was released. Again, there is still plenty of players playing those editions, but there has been a noticeable decrease in the amount of people ONLY playing TOW because it's "officially supported by GW".>>98307404That would be another negative as well unfortunately.
>>98307415I meant to say there is a noticeable amount of people playing WHFB because of TOW. Sorry.
>>98306789>Hear TOW announcement>Dig stuff out of parents basement, buy eBay deals, scoop up random AoS lots to rebase >TOW drops>No one local plays, bros I played with in the 2000's are busy with their kids, doing Bolt Action, etc>Sell most of the stuff>Huge local scene suddenly forms overnightThe simulation is just fucking with me at this point.
>>98307155What if all they did for Mordheim is make print a book of the current fan agreed balanced rules without changes. Just rules in a book, fluff, some art, and a nice finish. Almost free money since they don't need to make models or anything else available.
>>98307436It’s all on your for not keeping the faith. It’s going to soon be a good time to jump in with the battle march sets coming out soon. Alternatively if you know which army you want to collect buy a battalion from a third party before they are gone forever (unless you want to play orcs that battalion is ass)
>>98306789>Undead OPbased. Hail Von Carstein
>>98307451That would be the safest way to market them to not incur in the wrath of old grogs or fake grogs but the rules won't be popular, there is a reason why every ruleset they make now aims to simplify things, it's what works with the wider target
>>98307436I feel pity for you, americans. Here people play 6 edition WHFB and TOW a lot. Like A LOT.
>>98307379Everybody's playing with prints in old world. They are everywhere in every tournament.
Any inklings of what might be the next round of models to get refreshed? I would have to guess and hope GW will focus on some of the worse models before going for the stuff that still somewhat holds up, but they just did a big Chaos refresh so that's probably not their plan.
>>98307569People are saying TKs but that's purely on word of mouth to my knowledge.
>>98307573>>98307569Tomb Kings and Wood elves, but that is mostly speculation based on old rumurs, and the fact they didn't get a pre-made muster list in the Battle March book like the other factions
>>98307569Tomb Kings and Wood Elves.

>>98306930real. i love the monopose plastic minis gw made in the 90s. easily identifiable silhouettes, not cluttered, quick to paint, leaves room for freehand and designs if you want.
>>98306789>TQEmpire, Orcs, and Beastmen look the best by far. As they should as the most kino armies.
>>98307213>a naked woman's body hanging upside down from his bannerwhy would you want to have a pic of that ?
>>98307697erm... just out of intellectual curiosity, no other reason at all...
>>98307415Man, I played 9th Age for quite a bit and quit entirely because of their own bullshit. Trying to refluff every army was a stupid idea, and they were dead set on ignoring all community feedback and declining interest. TOW dropping was simply the last nail in the coffin.
>>98307436Honestly the way some people buy and sell armies like it’s nothing is fucking weird to me. I might never play 40k again, but why would I sell my old armies? So much money, time and energy invested and so many good memories.
>>98307734Unless you have no room for them I don't see the point. Or if you're a WAACfag who only deals with the premier meta armies of the week. If it's a fully painted army it should be proudly on display for all time. If they're all still in box I can see cleaning out the house though.
>>98307436Clearly you weren't very committed either way. Maybe buy one of the new boxes?
>>98307734when i was a kid id paint up an army and sometimes sell it to buy a new one.
Reposting since there is two threads? I'm trying to 3d print a small castle (with playable interior), which one of these two do you think looks more Warhammer-esque and fits the setting better? This one, or
Or this one?
>>98307875definitely this one, the rounded towers give it a more warhammer feel, the other one looks way too historical.
>>98307871This one looks more warhammer to me mostly because of the colors and apparent construction. The first looks like a fort that was used, the second looks like a wall built around a house and they didn't have enough rocks to make a proper courtyard.
>>98307871>>98307875This one looks more Warhammer
>>98307871This one would make a good Empire fort if you added some empire bits and bling to it. >>98307875This one could do as a Kislevite Fort if you added Kislev bits to it. Maybe an Ostland Fort too.

Just play whats cool, it's really that simple. Seriously, I'm not trying to be a dick but I keep seeing more and more the 40k compfag shit bleeding into fantasy
>>98308143>that's because slann aren't old slann, but the old slann are slann. This might be the case but do you have any proof that "old slann" are Old Ones, because the excerpt from the 6th edition Lizardmen Armybook implies that Slann were a separate species from the Old Ones, in the same way that Lizardmen or Skinks are separate, servants/slave races, species from the Old Ones. Also on a completely different topic, if the Old Ones from Fantasy are the Old Ones from 40k, and we assume that Orcs came to Mallus on Old Ones space ships (it's heavily implied since at least 8th edition) then that totally fucks up the narrative of Orks being heavily devolved Krorks, unless the devolution happened very quickly and Orks came into being before the Old Ones were wiped out.Pic related is another excerpt that makes it even clearer that Slann are a separate species from Old Ones
>TQI don't know what the best will be, but I'm buying the warriors of chaos one to add on to the new launch box half of WoC, and I'll probably branch out and buy a few different armies I find cool since this is probably the only game mode I'll end up playing in ToW.
>>98308213It's insane to me how shamelessly cynical GW was by mocking everyone with Stillmania only for people missing the point decades later and simping for it unironically.

>>98308258No, it's cynicism and lack of respect towards its playerbase that GW was already sporting during the middle-hammer era and only exploded during the 6-7e period but people are not ready for this conversation yet. Stillman was an author of a few White Dwarf articles that were contradicting each other in many cases. As an author of several armybooks he was also responsible for the constant cycling of units and power creep. People like to idealise the "good old times" but every edition was broken in a way.>>98308277No, what was bad was Stillman being a hypocrite. His Stillmania articles are quite a hilarious read when you keep in mind he was the part of the problem he was complaining about.
There was a Battlemarch event at my local club yesterday, I'll post some pictures from it

>>98308299Are those high elves converted to be dark elves?Pretty nifty.
>>98308308Yeah, I thought it was quite good, his entire army was, it was very impressive
>>98308215before the old ones were called old ones the rulebooks had the old slann, little to nothing about their role was changed after the shift in the name, so there's very little reason to think they must have been a completely different thing unless you want to argue that the aeldari are not the eldar and just a race that happens to have the same exact fluff and a similar name.the "new" adeptus titanicus rulebook kept referring to the slann as the empire before the eldar anyway, since it kept the lore section almost unchanged from the first edition of the game.gw sold this as an idol of the old ones.when "one of the ancients" appeared in a novel about the cabal in 40k, it was described very much like a slann.touching on timelines is harsh because regardless of how you try to align the two settings, things don't work, fortunately the warp is in the way so we can handwave any inconsistency about timing, but for the orcs, the suggested reason for the devolving from krork to orc has to do with the loss of the special mushrooms that grew on their homeworld and were used to enhance their growth and intellect for both the orc and the goblin, so orcish spores without that "royal jelly" just means normal orcs and normal goblins; plus there's the suggestion in one book that ork spores react to the waaagh field, with it also guiding what the spores produce, and since the warhammer world would be isolated from the wider galaxy then the orcs on this world can not develop or produce the same results.

>>98308348GrimBut at least the Battle March games seemed fun going by the photo you provided anon, Did you guys play with the Battle Marchbooks extra stuff like the Troll lair terrain or the lightning strike weather, or was it Vanilla?
>>98308362>the problem has ALWAYS been the playersLol, lmao. Bad bad players, how do they dare to play the game within the limits and rules created by a multi-million wargaming behemoth. Small indie company, please understand.
>>98308367>Did you guys play with the Battle Marchbooks extra stuff like the Troll lair terrain or the lightning strike weather, or was it Vanilla? It was vanilla, but the new book seems really cool, I'm looking forward to running some games with that stuff
>>98308375Why are behaving like this, Prozac prescription run out or something?
>>98308290>it's cynicism and lack of respect towards its playerbaseGo on, explain how.
>>98308401Projecting.If the game was properly balanced and GW ever put ANY effort into playtesting any of their rulesets, there would be no way to significantly break them. Claiming that players are at fault because *checks notes* they took a rulebook and an armybook and found the best way to build an army is ridiculous at best and retarded at worst. Was it players' fault that Skaven with Slings were OP in Mordheim? No, it was GW not playtesting their game properly and not addressing their fuck-ups. Was it players' fault that Plague Monks had literally a nuke buttom in AoS Skirmish? Nope, GW not checking their rules before releasing them again.
>>98308414Stillman lecturing you that according to him the "ultimate spirit of wargaming" requires you to write a ~2000pts roster and never change it only to brag about huge games being THE shit in the next article but actually lecturing people that they should play <1000pts games and change units A LOT to keep things fresh in the previous article is quite schizophrenic. Again, trying to moralise people about what is the good way and what is the bad way of playing the game while you are a part of the company that creates the dysfunctional gaming environment and by extension is part of the problem is cynical and hypocritical.
>>98308444>it is cynical and hypocritical for people making a game to have opinions on how the game should be playeduh huhYou have yet actually demonstrate anything btw, but thats alright. Im sure youll get to how stillmania or whatever is actually cynical and disrespectful.
I started collecting an O&G army for the first time earlier this year, and I just have to say I fucking love these little guys. I've got lots of stuff from different eras, lots of second hand and everything, and I still haven't found a single sculpt I don't like. And best of all they all fit in the same army because greenskins being different sizes and using different looted equipment is not a problem at all.
>>98308264birthrates collapse if a couple produces below 2.1 children on average. many have just one.
>>98306803Oh it's basically just the Isle of Blood box with more stuff that's cool
>>98308420>it's not MY fault I stole your bike, YOU left in unlocked!!Nigger mentality
>>98308501>Create a game that changes point values, loadout, and even what units are legal to play every few years>Yo guys why don't you play WYSIWYG with the same 2000pts list that today is 2000pts but in a year is 2250pts only to drop to 1750pts in 4 years from now?
>>98308420Yes*Obviously, players are not responsible for balance imperfections in GW products, but they are responsible for how they engage with those products and the imperfections therein. No corporation/company/dude has ever released a perfectly balanced game, that has simply never happened. There are always things weaker and stronger and things which can be exploited/which are superior ("the meta" - quite literally). There are always cases where a rule is imperfect and simply "breaks", or where there is an oversight; that is the nature of human fallibility. When people exploit a glitch in a video game, is it the fault of the developer or the playerbase that engage in that behavior? The answer is both.
>>98308522Playing a game within the rules created by the game creator is perfectly valid. Stealing is stealing no matter if the bike was locked or unlocked. The only person that displayed nigger mentality is you.
>>98308526>the rules change whats meta so I cant wysywigAh, I see you are one of those faggots.
Stillmania is aspirational and not an ethos that actually works in real life. This argument has been rehashed seven million times at this point and I'm sick of it. Either write an actual defence/critique paper about it or blow it out your ass.
>>98308535How is not being able to play your army because it exceeds the points limit "meta"? Stillman is quite clear here >>98308213 that you should NEVER change anything in your army and you should fight EVERY battle with the SAME army. It's Stillmania after all - you take it or leave it, you can't just pick the parts you like.
>>98308548Then play the old edition retard.
>>98308420This cope would work better if players actually played the rules as written and intended, which they repeatedly dont (see: the lack of terrain use and the outright hostility some whfb players have towards the idea of using it)
Damn this thread is still unusable huh
>>98308548>How is not being able to play your army because it exceeds the points limitWhats stopping you from saying "oh, my army is 2250pts now, guess ill play 2250 pts now"? Will fucking zeus come down and smite you if you dont play exactly 2k/2.5k/whatever the fuck?
>>98308562>we agreed to a 2K game dude, fuck off

>>98308562For me it's not a problem but an Anon here uses Stillmania as an example of how to play WFB in a SOVL and KINO way, unless you want to be a consoomer. I simply try to hold him true to his words but doing nothing but providing quotes from Stillmania articles. By Stillman himself, you should NEVER change your army in ANY way, so if your local scene is playing 2000pts only - which is common and standard - you are fucked. It was not me claiming that there is only one "correct" way of playing the game.

>>98308600>"hey, can we play at (pts limit) instead" people will go "no, I only play at (pts limit thats more common)"!>Yes, 2k (or 2.5k with 8e) is the most commonly played size. That does not mean it is the only size you can play.NTA but this is exactly how my local TOW scene is. We are all working family men and we only have time to play on saturdays so we organise casual 2000pts "tournaments". This is the only way we can meet up and play against each other so not sticking to a fixed points value would further atomise the already small community.
hmmmm all the battalion boxes for ToW are gone except WE,BM and Dwarfs at least in the US
>>98308641Be gentle, anon is rabidly autistic and doesent understand that its not the 10 commandments but is rather a joking way to suggest things in the spirit of good play.
>>98308578Are you unironically opposed to SOVL and KINO ?
>>98308648>NTA but this is exactly how my local TOW scene isThen your scene is shit, and will be shit regardless of whatever rules are proposed. Because apparently "hey, want a game of 2250pts on saturday" is too difficult for you/it. >We are all working family menEveryone is, literally every gaming group has to work around real life schedules with work hours and families and birthdays and kids school events. Guess what? Everyone else manages to not have to default to robotically rigid play. You are not so uniquely busy that you cannot go and message your friend "hey, I want to play at X pts on saturday" and figure something out. Warhammer is a social hobby with a strong social element, the ability to talk to your friends is both expected and necessary.
>>98308641Kek austits taking everything literally is a huge problem in this general
>>98308311Fair play, it's not really the same because Old Ones are explicitly implied to be a separate species from Slann, whereas Aeldari are just Eldar with a name change. But that's fine, you're right.

>>98308096>>98308215>>98308311I rather like the version of the Old Ones in the book Xenology by Simon Spurrier (I know, GW later said it's not canon) where it's implied they are beings existing simultaneously in the material universe and the Warp (not just their souls, but their whole being) and that they must physically look humanoid in a very vague way (two legs, two arms, a head upon a neck, two eyes and a nose in the middle of the face) since all their creations have that general pattern

>>98309263In a vacuum? Undivided. Do you also have a sorcerer with the Mark of Tzeentch? Mark of Tzeentch. Nurgle is trash, Khorne is a trap, Slaanesh is utterly worthless.
Can I get some opinions on a scenario I thought of? One big map with a large fortified manor/redoubt/fort, etc. in the center. Maybe it has some Palisades or ditches around it, idk. Both players start on the far ends of the table, and fight to gain control of this strategic position. You can imagine it's an important position that your commander has been ordered to secure on a much larger battlefield. The special catch is that every turn all your defeated troops respawn on your table edge as reinforcements to continue the assault. You get a point towards victory for every turn where your players have complete control of the fort at the end of the turn. Maybe play for time, say 3 or 3.5 hours, instead of a number of rounds.
I have 12 Ironguts and a few spare Bulls i can assemble as Standard bearers and Bellowers. What's the most efficient way of splitting them between units? Should I run them in two blocks of 8 dudes each?
>>98309298Gutstar imo. Do a Gutstar then put a Tyrant on a stone horn and a unit of 4 mournfangs and your opponent is going to have a hard time deciding which threats to focus on
>>98309303Whichever's closest.

>>98309348Perryfag are you really false flagging so you can reply to yourself? You’re so pathetic lmao
>>98309333Poison does basically nothing now. It's not something you need to fear. Also, the Mark of Nurgle only applies in close combat. Very few relevant things apply poison in close combat. Finally, re-rolling 6s outside of the context of poison isn't actually that good. Anything that wants to fight your chaos warriors will have enough WS to not give a shit and anything that will be afraid of a measly re-roll 6s to hit will be something your chaos warriors can already handle just fine. It's a waste of points. It's really good on chaos lords riding dragons, don't get me wrong, but the Mark of Nurgle stinks on anything else.
>>98309333Also the mark of Nurgle doesn't give your warriors poisoned attacks.
Some weapons for Battle March >>98309369I think although poison is far worse 2+ to wound definitely isn’t useless imo.
>>98309209they suck don't collect them
>>98309292Are the lists decided before the scenario or after? because a scenario like this heavily favours certain units/armies>multiple small units>long range artillery>fast unitsbasically any large unit of footsloggers will be dead weight, because troops in warhammer don't move fast enough and won't die fast enough to respawn either.to offset this you might add that units can respawn at the long edges of the table the more time passes and units that haven't been completely destroyed can still receive reinforcements if they're close enough to the edge where units come from, just healing the existing unit instead of placing the unit anew. or you might give them the singular role of actually counting for the capture of the tower.but then we get to monsters and models with multiple wounds being disadvantaged, especially with artillery around, but if you're going to place enough low walls around the 'equator' of the board, and the central fortress is large enough, perhaps artillery won't be too punishing, but to not make monsters feel too outpaced, instead of giving them heals or somesuch, you could give them a counter role to the infantry: that one is needed to capture, monsters and big scary things always count as contesting, which also gives the nice visual image of defending troops fighting off a monster scaling the fortress.

>>98309747IDK at this point I wouldn't be surprised if they do end up making a base model to be used as a kitbashing base
>>98309749Yes the Dwarf Battalion is one of the best because everything in there is useful. Gyros are good, the warriors are good (just run them as Longbeards), thunderers are good and you can make a bunch of them into rangers which are good.

>>98309767cannons probably
should i get an empire of man battalion box if ones still around, i wanted to do that as a second army eventually. i plan to do gunline/artillery mostly, going to paint it as nuln.
>>983097282.0 starter is the best way they could launch the faction.
>>98309815Yes it’s a GOAT box for Empire starters imo. You’re going to use the state troops both CC and missile, and while you may not run the Steam Tank in every list, it’s absolutely viable and gives your collection some legs.
>>98309753the issue with a plastic cart is how would they justify charging you for a Gun wagon later on when it's cheaper to buy a Wagon + some gunners than to buy the unit.
>>98309815There's a shop near me that has it and I've been considering grabbing it even though I'm not going to be starting an Empire army until sometime next year at the earliest. You're probably not going to be seeing those models go any cheaper than that.
>>98309835cheers will pick it up then, how should i build the melee side of the box. going to do handgunners for the other side because lol nuln
>>98309862Double check but I’m pretty sure if you want to run Nuln you have to have at least one unit of Halberdiers, so that would be the way to go. Otherwise probably sword and board. If you want to run Veterans in generic empire then spears aren’t bad either but sword and board is still probably better. Especially for ranged heavy armies
Does anyone have the pic/list for the dwarf battle march
>>98309869thanks mate, i should also build 4 squads instead of 2 megasquads then hey? i swear im not tourneyfagging, i barely play and mostly collect
>>98309893I think for the melee state troops you should commit either way . 15 CC state troops is too few to do anything. With the ranged state troops I would encourage half and half because crossbows definitely have a place alongside handguns. The extra range on the crossbows basically gives you an extra turn of guaranteed shooting, albeit a bit worse. Still that’s a big advantage over guns.
>>98309753I don't think the idea will survive into the next edition it is not at all popular in it's current rendition. Possibly making it a unit will help and it probably works better in battle march but it's despised at tournies if tolerated.
>>98309919>it's despised at tournies if tolerated.that intersting.Any idea why that is?
>>98309904thanks mate appreciate the advice might just separate them into 4 squads of each option and get reinforcements eventually then. definitely want to go handgun heavy for the fluff though but maybe ill do crossbows as well if they look cool.
>>98309231a real shame because the fluff he introduced was really good and coherent but GW is always ready to throw away coherent fluff/storylines so that Black Library authors can always make their own thing The only lore in novels they regulate tightly is that of the Horus Heresy
>>98309207>they must physically look humanoid in a very vague way (two legs, two arms, a head upon a neck, two eyes and a nose in the middle of the face) since all their creations have that general patternyou're wrong, Eldar look like humans but not Orks or Hrud which are creations of the Old Ones as well
>>98309231what bad blood?
>>98309951please, read the posts before replying
>>98309952I've heard nothing concrete but probably something over pay disputes
>>98309919Well, who cares about tourneyfags. Baggage carts have been very popular for hobbying. Honestly the fact that GW had no model to sell for it was a blessing.
>>98309932the main issue is that it's just a points multiplier for the victor rather than an objective to aim for from the start of the game, controlling your own train requires no unit proximity so it's free points for no good reason and destroying it is a bigger investment of a full turns base contact with a unit but you get less points than just proximity with it by games end. There's also cheesy stuff like putting cannons behind them because they don't block LoS for you but they do for your opponent (not sure if FAQ'd yet) and also the placement during the terrain step is kind of janky when deployment is after but then you have to factor in and squeeze around another piece.
>>98309951read what I wrote again>look humanoid in a very vague way (two legs, two arms, a head upon a neck, two eyes and a nose in the middle of the face) I use a very loose definition of humanoid as human-shaped but not necessarily looking closely like humans ; ie : four members , upright posture, one head, two eyes, etc... other than that, details like the color of the skin, the average size, the shape of ears can vary a lot the book outright states that all races in the galaxy that conform to that general pattern are creations of the Old Ones which explains why it is so widespread and found in so many species only races that don't look like that may not have been created by the Old Ones and thus are truly "alien" like the Tyranids for example and there's also another bug-like species (not Tyranids) in the book that also don't fit the pattern
>>98309965I mean it was introduced as a staple in the Old World Matched Play guide so I'd say that GW made it for tourneyfags and absolutely won't want to continue it if they give it a bad reception. It will probably survive in battlemarch though.
>>98309976but there are also races that look this way but weren't created by the Old Ones like the T'auhell, even humans themselves
>>98307734If i did that i would have no space in my house. By buying and selling it allows me to continuously improve my painting skills, keeps my army current and keeps clutter out of my house. It has the added benefit of keeping the cost of my hobby down. I paid $5k last year but sold $6k. I still have my first army and keep specific models that i really like but overall i dont need 100 different armies sitting on my shelf
>>98309986the book implies (read all but outright states) that T'au had their evolution shaped at some point by the Aeldari using the same methods as the Old Ones and even further back they may have been originally engineered by the Old Ones themselves>hell, even humans themselvesagain the book clearly implies humans were also created by the Old Onesthis is what I liked so much about that book, it connected everything in 40k with an elegant and all encompassing explanation that made sense but some may don't like explaining everything as "the Old Ones did it"again a true shame that they got rid of that lore because I really think that the 40k storyline was enriched by it
>>98309946>The only lore in novels they regulate tightly is that of the Horus Heresythis is their main cash machine so they better not let it go in multiple directions at once

>>98309976>look humanoid in a very vague way (two legs, two arms, a head upon a neck, two eyes and a nose in the middle of the face)>four members , upright posture, one head, two eyes, would that really fit the Lizardmen ? they have most of these features but the're not really upright and they have snouts instead of flat faces with a nose in the middle
>>98310023>would that really fit the Lizardmen ?in a loose/general sense, yesas stated earlier details and features may vary between species without disrupting the common anatomical pattern

>>98310224Naw, supporting attacks are based on movement distance. Human spears get 4 ranks. First two are front rank, 3rd and 4th are supporting. But the 2nd rank also only gets 1 attack since its not in base to base contact with any enemy models.
>>98310421No. The 3rd rank doesnt get an attack unless you have spears. The distance is to deal with linehammer and stupidly wide frontage.
Kislev used to be so cool
>>98310421The 5th rank would too if directly in front of the enemy since 4 ranks in front of it is 3.94 inches away.
>>98310352It's wild that you can get a better mini for half the price. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
>>98310425I said spears
>>98310435The two dozen or so single horse Perry carts are all $9
>>98310439The 4th rank isnt supporting. You have the fighting rank at the front (1st). The 2nd rank provides supporting ranks if youre infantry and they are within MV (unless you do linehammer the later part is irrelevant). Spear merely extend this to the 3rd rank. The 4th rank does nothing beyond provide combat res. Unless they add pikes lol
>>98310468So throwing spear means absolutely nothing for ungors on a primal herd? As seen >>98310017The model is directly behind the front rank and in move distance.
>>98310492My bad I thought you meant regular spears.
>>98310421No it's not. The movement distance is only for making a supporting attack from the front rank if the front rank is wider than the enemy. Only those in base contact get their full attacks. Models in the second rank behind those in base contact may make a single supporting attack. And models in the front rank, not in base contact but within a number of inches equal to their movement speed may make an attack. Like the other anon said, it was to deal with linehammer bullshit. It does not give anyone within X number of inches an attack.
>>98310681So convoluted and unnecessary complexity
>>98310681we're specifically talking about "fight in extra ranks" with spears or other sources that give it, which give supporting attacks.

I somehow keep being surprised that EVERY name in Warhammer comes from somewhere - history, a book, a British brand name. It still actually surprises me every single time that I see one of WHFB's big names was straight lifted from elsewhere. Gee I sure wonder where we'll find the vampire in Carmilla (1871)
>>98310421No the 4th rank can not attack because its not directly behind the fighting rank
>>98310850so, on the charge, throwing spears are worthless on ungors since they will the vast vast majority of the time be in the 3rd rank, and there is only 1 fighting rank on the charging unit. These models are directly behind the fighting rank. Anywhere that states a model needs to be touching uses the words touching. And as such, the spell Fury of the Beast does nearly nothing.

>>98311001>not sure what to prioritize Prioritize whichever you think is cooler and is more fun
>>98310864>they will the vast vast majority of the time be in the 3rd rankI dont really understand what you are talking about, since every model, except characters, in that unit will be equipped with throwing spears including the 2nd rank, which would be able to make supporting attacks when the unit charges. >the spell Fury of the Beast does nearly nothing.it helps you, if that unit is in ongoing combat at the start of your turn.
>>98310421With spears you get fight in extra rank, that means the fighting rank plus the supporting rank plus an extra rank. Three ranks.

>>98309209It's a good start, but when composing your army you'll have to choose: play to win or for fun because a winning dwarf army is a lot of shooting and waiting for the opponent to come to you to fight your infantry blocks which isn't too exciting for some players that prefer mobile armies. But if you play non-optimaly for fun and mix the usual gunline with stuff that moves around the table for the enemy to kill like miners and rangers I think you'll have fun.
>>98309618Thank you Anon, I do my best to enjoy this hobby.

>>98311438I think 2K is the more popular of those point values at the moment
>>98311442>responding to 7 hours old bait that gets posted every other thread
Holy shit the spear rank shit is triggering me. The front rank is the fighting rank, press of battle means when not charging the second rank is also the fighting rank for regular infantry. Fight in Extra Rank means you can make supporting attacks, which is the rank behind the fighting rank. The movement value doesn't magically let the 4th rank attack, it's a fucking AND, not or. That means not everyone in the third rank would be able to attack, if they're out of their movement range from an enemy they can't attack. Yes, Fury of the Beast is probably better to use on a unit that doesnt already get supporting attacks, but throwing spears are only on the charge so it would still be worth while when not charging.
>>98311479I'll take any excuse to post the models, I hope we get a mto one day I'll gladly pig out

>>98311554shame that modern GW designers are all social degree 2:2 mediocrities with no breadth of reading who just make shit up even if it makes no sense. AoS is probably the most infantile but even TOW has succumbed, the Tzarina has a man's name lmao.
While we're on the topic if perfectly fine Chaos Warriors can get a sick ass update surely we can get some new dwarf warriors/quarrelers/rangers?
>>98311604It did in 6E, dwarf handguns didn't have Move or Shoot and a +1 to hit at half range.
>>98311604If you don't know that dwarfs are natural sprinters consider yourself lucky for not finding yourself in short distance of one.
>>98311618I think Chaos Warriors got an update for two reasons1 They needed metal upgrade kits for halberds and great weapons, so updating them meant that GW could remove those from production and replace them with Plastic ones down the line2 make them distinct from the AoS Chaos Warriors which is general goal of GW to make AoS and TOW diffrent
Dwarf handgunners are boring to me. If I were a member of the pedophile elite and was able to be in charge of things regardless of my compotence, I would big up the fact that Dwarves know about petrolium, but their nonhuman psychology prevents them from industrializing as a society, with meta and pushed missile units being flame throwers and explosives.Muskets should be primarily a human thing, desu.

>>98311069>>98311100>>98311126Yeah, which create supporting attacks. Primal herd is 10 gors, 10 ungors minimum. So your going to have a rank of gors no matter what as your front. Then a rank, or most of a rank, as your second. Then ungors with throwing spears, which give attack in extra ranks on the charge, which means they will be almost completely be in the 3rd rank which is not touching the front rank so will do actual fuck all on the charge and will then be forced to do handweapon shield by the time they can attack.Fight in extra rank literally says the models gain supporting attacks. So supporting attacks is what rules it follows.

>>98311690Never, but you didn't get what I said. It is possibly my fault for communicating poorly. >>98312014They can easily end up looking somewhat toylike I've noticed. I thought it was just because of knotley's meme contrast style at first but I've seen a few other paintjobs that give off the same "vibe"
>>98312014The shields are not to my taste. I suppose it doesn't matter, seeing as I already have too many chaos warriors, but it's a shame they wasted a good iteration of the 5th edition design by giving them those awful shields.
>>98311897>high elves require a smaller wave of releases compared to dwarfsnot really. They could just re-do the core, since that's the shittiest looking in their range.they could probably get away with a single kit that makes all core options. or they could do 2 kits, one for ranged units and one for warriors+miners; just to finally get rid of all the 6.5 and 7th ed ugly plastic dwarf.
>>98312014seeing models painted badly is as informative if not more informative than seeing them painted wellhas any of the reviewers shed a single light on how the models look when the pauldrons aren't attached?
>>98312041with elves you need just archers, spearmen and silver helms to get rid on all old units.with dwarfs you need to address warriors (with multiple options), ranged infantry (with multiple options), rangers (if you don't shove them awkwardly into the ranged infantry), miners AND slayers, because a range cannot keep having troops of that significance left in metal.
>>98312042>seeing models painted badly is as informative if not more informative than seeing them painted wellthis is very true, especially for people new to the hobby and younger players. It gives them a more realistic view on what to expect seeing on their table (from both sides). >any of the reviewers shed a single light on how the models look when the pauldrons aren't attached? They probably look like the ironbreakers do without the pauldrons (they look better)
>>98312014>I can't tell the difference between volumes and colorsThat's because you're retarded.
>>98312047>AND slayers, because a range cannot keep having troops of that significance left in metal. You're right. I didn't even think of the poor slayers. people have been asking for plastic slayers for at least 20 years at this point. Ironically it was kind of one of the first thing they did in AoS (with their pederast looking fyreslayers). At this point if you're not buying the AoW slayers though, you kind of deserve whatever bullshit GW pulls.
>>98312036I really hate the prepainted dnd miniature vibes I get from this paintjob in particular>>98312040Honestly I dont know what the hell is up with GW and their shields recently, why they insist on these half a foot thick perfectly flat shield rims is beyond me. They look incredibly shit and are awful to paint. The marauders have the same issue, though to a lesser extent. The basic shape of these and chunky details and decoration looks worse and worse the more I look at them.>>98312042I feel like the tale of painters guy showed the assembly instructions and that should show how they attach.I do think that a bad paintjob makes models look so so much worse than they are but I feel like that one I posted really highlights elements that I dint like about them. I hope the inevitable Engra Deathsword model is even slightly close to this in quality. We need good characters to ground the new timeline. Otherwise, people are just going to keep playing with Franz, and TOW will just be WFB 9e—which I'm also fine with. I just want a commitment one way or the other.https://www.tomb-art.com/projects/z6yN6
>>98312148wait.. could these make good black orcs then? Maybe just swap the heads and maybe change some of the weapons/ shields
>>98312093I used the BloodBowl kit for the characters, but the rest are still metal.
>>98312205Me likey
>>98312185I feel like the aspiring champion and bsb is definitely headed in this direction, but I feel like even a insanely good 1/1 copy of the art will feel like a letdown as the reason why that artwork is so incredible is more than just Engra himself. It's the lighting on his armour, the incredible heat and depth of colour of the flame behind and the darkness in the sky as much as it is engra. Any model is going to pale in comparison as it will inherently be missing at least half of what makes his artwork so powerful.
>>98312014> plate armour> wooden shields
>>98312196I feel like they could make black orcs, but good black orcs? No, not at all. From memory they are also very, very small.

I wish they kept the old warrior aesthetic, but just made them more detailed and modernDon't like the new ones, AOS is more in line with whfb warriors
>>98312234Isn't that just the current AoS range?
>>98312218To be fair, metal shields except for small bucklers or targes wasnt really a thing, Im sure theres some weird exception somewhere but shields were virtually always wooden and then covered in canvas or leather and then rimmed in hide. Metal rims were also pretty much nonexistant, apart from a few roman examples and I believe some middle eastern ones where theyd crop up occasionally.I do really hate the bare unfinished wood on the front of the shield but thats basically universal in any fantasy or shitty "historical" tv show or movie
>>98312120>Honestly I dont know what the hell is up with GW and their shields recently, why they insist on these half a foot thick perfectly flat shield rims is beyond meIt's somethiny I always hate in proonted models because that seems to be really common there for some reason, but now gw has started to do it too
Retard here. Is it me or there's no Skaven, Lizardmen, Tomb Kings nor Vampire Counts battle marches? I've been eyeing on WHFB from afar since childhood and thought those rumored battleboxes would be a good occasion but looks like there's 0 of my favorite factions?
>>98312234This is the old warrior aesthetic though. 5e is older than the one's you like.
>>98312273Skaven Lizerdmen and Vampire Counts are "legacy" factions and haven't been officially supported by GW for TOW for whatever reason.Tomb Kings and Wood Elves don't get pre-created Battle March muster lists yet, probably due to them getting a AJ later this year
>>98312218I despise this D&D/WFB/RuneScape-ism that's caused people to think (actual medieval heater) shields are made of metal or have metal rims. They're literally just wood and leather.
>>98312291AJ?So legacy factions won't have their boxes but do they at least have rules and points to support them in a game of TOW? If not is there a dedicated community in charge of that? Would they do the same for Battle March? Thanks anon.
>>98312014How you paint determines whether or not something will look cartoony or toylike. For example, the Death Guard in 40k painted by eavy metal look very cartoony and toy like. But you can also paint them to look grimdark even with some of the sillier sculpts (such as the teeth stomach). Pic related.
>>98312271Right? Its one of the reasons I personally loathe most 3d prints, just the weirdly scaled overly thick sections. I swear to god with GW it started with forge world Lord of the Rings models, there were a bunch of named character they did and every single one had these like car tyre thick shields that looked like absolute dogshit and it spread from there somehow. I cannot see any sane reason for it as theyve been casting thinner and thinner pieces for decades while theyve been making 3d designs and its only really recently they decided to do this shit.
>>98312318They have official legacy rules that are a bit weak but they also have very well developed community rules called Renegade Rules (by a group called Square Based) which are very nice
>>98312324I really hope you are right with these models, that goonhammer article has given me the fear though.
>>98312047>a range cannot keep having troops of that significance left in metal.why would someone think this? they should be sculpting everything by hand and releasing only metal miniatures. metal is superior in every way. feel better in the hand, hold details better (hair, fur, chainmail as examples), durable, easier to strip, any leftover metals are kino and soul sculpts by artists. plastic cadslop designed by indians should be boycotted.
>>98312318Yes they have rules from GW and widely adopted tweaked community rules (renegades pack). AJ means arcane journal, there were rumors that Tomb Kings and Wood Elves will share a versus box like Cathay and Chaos currently do. People are speculating that them not getting battle march boxes only strengthens this likelihood. That their battle march armies will be in the versus box. It’s important to note that Battle March isn’t like Spearhead in that it isn’t just pre determined lists/what’s in the box. Those are going to be sold as easy Battle March 1 box intros, but you can play Battle March with any legal composition from 400-700 points.
