No.

Why not?
>>
>>98314660
You say "eyo" which means you're probably extremely stupid. No, it's not for you. You would hate it. Go play video games.
>>
>>98314660
Can you divide 1/2, 1/5, how well do you understand maths up to 100? Can you comprehend what 'lower is hetter' means?
>>
>>98314660
I prefer Delta Green
>>
>>98316611
i was just trying to fit in with zoomers (like you, i suspect)

Sandy Peterson is not a good designer and the fanbase is not the good kind of weird.

If you're already a Lovecraft fan and want something that can do genre emulation with minimal overhead, go with Fate Condensed (ignore the "community.")

If you're looking to get into that sort of setting but don't have a lot of experience, look at Candela Obscura (definitely ignore the "community.")

What a novel troll post.
3/10, got me to reply, but too bizarre to be taken seriously.

Not sure where all the hate for Game designer Sandy Petersen comes from, barring the anti-Boardgame weirdos.
He's been around making games since they were on Pen & Paper.

I like it, it's my personal favorite ttrpg, but that's mostly because I am a huge Lovecraftfag and was one before I even got into CoC.
They do take some... liberties with the Mythos that I sometimes disagree with, but the system itself is solid, and not even THAT married to the setting to begin with, desu.
>>
>>98314660
Yes its great at what it does. You can run any sort of investigative game with it, lovecraftian, magic, or mundane. It does all of them well. You can even find a more SCP styled one called Delta Green

>>98317689
You like CoC? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) kinda gay no?
>>
>>98317654
I love how he is so autistic that he is dunking and shitting all over his old friend right after they died
>>
>>98314660
Yeah
>>
>>98317689
>that's mostly because I am a huge Lovecraftfag and was one before I even got into CoC

This is the exact reason while it's shit to me, actually.

>>98314660
Been playing since 5e, it is fine as a system. 7e has been good, personally me and my group use Pulp Cthulhu.
>>
>>98316611
What a nigger
>>
>>98316511
The system is designed in a way that is detrimental to the investigative play it purports to be about. Investigators are bumbling idiots outside of a few narrow fields of expertise, so you tend to stick to the same methods throughout the game. Attributes range from having no rules effect at all to god stats that let you ignore whole subsystems. Sanity is completely broken. Adventures tend to be designed as railroads with only a few solutions and you're fucked if you missed the right clue or failed your roll. Some also like to employ gotchas like stripping you of your equipment or having an impaling shot with a shotgun be something that's just shrugged off.
>>
>>98319278
Out of curiosity, what do you mean by sanity is broken? I don't have experience with CoC but have been thinking about how something like sanity could work in a homebrew system and want to avoid pitfalls.
>>
>>98319307
Sanity works both as your mental defense and like a secondary HP pool. The lower your sanity is, the more likely you are to take sanity damage and the lower your sanity recovery is relative to the damage you took. Low sanity turns into a death spiral.
Characters with less than 40 starting sanity (equal to your POW score) are basically unplayable, whereas those with 70+ can pretty much ignore the effects of the system. My first character had 20 (great stats otherwise). 7e also made changes that make it possible to hit indefinite insanity before temporary insanity in edge cases like this.
>>
>>98314660
The system is a bit clunky and 80s, but it has perhaps the best selection of modules of any system.

Truth nuke. Easy gotchas aside, I never really understood why COC has such a dedicated fanbase and so few critcs.

>>98319404

Funnily enough I'm solidly on the "modules are the worst part" school here.

Pic very related.
>>
>>98319278
I've been playing CoC for a few years now and like a year ago or so our team transitioned to Pulp Cthulhu but most of the stuff if not all you wrote still applies.
>Adventures tend to be designed as railroads with only a few solutions and you're fucked if you missed the right clue or failed your roll.
This part hits especially close to home. Every single adventure we played had that one moment where my team doesn't really know what is going on anymore and how to progress the story forward and it happened enough times now that it can't be purely the fault of our DM.
>>
>>98318275
That isn't from "right after they died," and he isn't shitting on anyone. He's correcting a misinformed person.
>>
>>98319488
One of my favorites (that the Keeper worked around of) was that several people in town tell you when church service is. You're not supposed to go to church. You're supposed to use that precise time window to break into your missing friend's house, discover a clue there about his abduction and leave unnoticed while everyone is still at church.
>>
>>98319278
Sanity is not broken, the attributes are supposed to be randomised therefor that doesnt matter, and the fact you are an expert in a field matters a lot in a roll under system (idk if this part of the OC rules or a homebrew on my part, but you do add a portion of your attributes to the skills right? It cant be that bad). Unfortunately its modules are indeed very railroady and the authors dont seem to understand how to write an investigative scenario.

>idk if this part of the OC rules or a homebrew on my part, but you do add a portion of your attributes to the skills right?
That's your homebrew. The only skills where the default score is tied to your attributes/characteristics are Dodge and Language (Native).

unc chillll

>>98319607
You shouldn't be rolling for *most* shit, and, outside of combat, when you do roll it shouldn't be a linear "pass and win, fail and the game grinds to a halt" situation.
