Thanks for memeing me into another product i guess
Define the worst part of it to you. It's not exactly so popular that everyone on /tg/ knows why it sucks to engage in conversation about it, like PbtA slop or Dnd 5e clones.
>>98316291>"spoonfeed me!"www.google.com
>>98316554He's not going to be able to use google to find the subjective opinion of an anonymous poster on 4chan. I shouldn't have to explain that to you.
>>98316554If you're that afraid of having to give your own opinion why bother posting at all?
>>98316117>can't even pirate an easily available PDF and skim through it to see if he likes the product before buyingIf you dislike your money, that's on you buddy.
>>98316554I tried to look you up on Google and just found a bunch of results for "faggot".
>>98316291NTA but it has that syndrome common to AD&D inspired games where it's just a kitchen sink of classes and skill systems, with more added in every supplement.
>>98316117>Thanks for memeing me into another product i guessYou're welcome dude. Be sure to support their crowdfunding campaign as well.https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/mugen-gaming/sword-world/launch_party
>>98316117Sword World isn't bad it's just very simple, roll 2d6, add ability modified, add class level and try to meet or exceed target number. You got dice controlled A.I. for helpful NPCs and different rules for JRPG style combat and more traditional combat. Also multi classing options out the ass.At its core though, it is a numbers go up add a bunch of modifiers style of game. Arguably it was just using 2d6 to replace a d20 because d20s were not easily found in Japan during the early days of Sword World, so most of the inherent design flaws of a d20 system are still applicable with it just with math centered around a 2-12 result so /tg/ will argue it's less swingy when, in practice it's basically the same.
>>98316554I don't think Google can tell us about your personal experience with the game, anon.
>>98316726Never said i burned money on it. Not that retarded.
>>98316117You're a liar, OP.
>>98317460sir this is the lying website
>>98317536where else can you find the truth?

>>98316554The best bait is the lowest effort ones
>he thought the ttrpg that was inspired by anime which was inspired by jarpigs which were shitty adaptations of ttrpgs would be goodserves you right
>>98320780that's not the order
>>98316554That's weird. I googled why does OP think the way he does and all of the results were pictures of men with penises in their mouths.
>>98320780This. Sword World is like 7 or 8 degrees removed from anything resembling an original idea which is its core issue.
>>98320780>>98321201Okay, I have an original system for you.You stick a dildo to your chair and you have to get it inside as many times as the target number or above it. As you level up the dildo gets bigger. The boxset comes with 4 pregenerated dildos and lube, but you can buy the pdf, roll your own dildos and homebrew your own lube. There, an original system, thus your favorite one.
>>98321247>target numbershit system. Mine is roll under. Roll your tongue under my balls and I'll let you know if you pass.
>>98316117????I don't believe you. Give reasons or I am just going to guess you're a no-games tourist fag.
>>98320780>inspired by animeWhich anime?
>>98325805Record of brown skin elves
>>98326390>Record of brown skin elvesWas released 1 year after the TTRPG
>>98327351And years after the replays of the BX campaign that lead into the creation of the light novels that the anime follows. The history is more complex than you'd expect.
>>98316117What's wrong with it?
>>98328360The only legitimate complaint against Sword World RPG is that its not written natively in English. It's a borderline perfect game.
>>98327361Which means >>98320780 is just an uninformed faggot
>>98326390>>98327361>>98327361The replays came first, then the novels. They also played it through Runequest 3 and Tunnels & Trolls, not just D&D. I forgot the exact reasoning but they didn't want the Lodoss and the setting to be tied exclusively to D&D, which is what motivated them to make their own TTRPG and Sword World RPG was born. This also gave them the opportunity to make an RPG more accessible to their audience. Trying to get people to play TTRPG's is literally the reason Record of Lodoss War exists in the first place. Then came the anime.>>98328579I assumed it was a troll post at first so I didn't know if it was worth the effort in correcting him.
>>98329814>I assumed it was a troll postI still assume it is, but it is worth correcting these, to some extent, because people new to it might see unchecked information like this and start parroting it, or, on the other side, because new people might look at the corrected info and find it interesting enough.
>>98329814>I forgot the exact reasoningTSR got pissy that they weren't making enough money off of the translation of BX so they pulled the license.
>>98331779If you're gonna tell the fake story at least do it right.Group SNE had arranged a meeting with TSR to make Lodoss am official 2e setting, they even invited other big names from the same magazine who could be attached to the project like the creator of Slayers. TSR never showed up. The insutl was so deep they made their own game to show TSR and happened to make the most succesfull game in Japan.
>>98331990>they even invited other big names from the same magazine who could be attached to the project like the creator of SlayersLodoss War was originally published in Comptiq magazine, Slayers are published in Dragon Magazine. Not to be confused with Dragon in the US, which was actually published for a brief moment in Japan, but then the rights for the name were bought to create Dragon Magazine.
>>98337784well, there is one sword world story that was published in Dragon Magazine...
>>98331990and group SNE said they believe, and in turn I also believe, that the snub was over TSR being pissed about not getting a big enough cut from the translation of BX.
>>98331990not 2e>>98341097not BX either, but BECMI.
>>98340570Later in the 90s, I know there's been cross pollination since lodoss is as fundamental to fantasy over there as dragon quest or books like guin sagaBTW I don't mean to sound like a pedantic retard, this is just a rare topic
>>98316831Statistically 2d6 is less swingy than 1d20, you're just a retard.1d20 has a standard deviation of 5.82d6 has a standard deviation of 2.4
