I'm a Bretonnian infantry + basic cav autist, so I welcome the nerf to faggot peggers.
>>
>TQ
seems alright, but outside of the viletide and Nuln Outrider nerf, there really isn't anything that stands out,
Chopping off some points from chaff infantry like high elf spearman and archers or even some monsters like the cockatrice, doesn't make these units viable for sweaty comp play or even impact smaller games outside of being able to afford more stuff
>>
>TQ
Warriors are better but are still going to fucking die in all likelihood before doing anything
Ditto for war dancers
Monstrous infantry continues to suck balls
Demon prince is some how more garbage
Have to rebase my dragon (only thing I didn’t seek yet from my collection of chaos warriors)
Dryads are strong(er)
I feel nothing overall for the faq. I guess greenskins are gonna be scarier for me to fight, beastmen are probably getting nerfed so they can be souped into warriors.
>>
>>98319769
I don't know if Chaos Warriors are good now, but they'll certainly feel better to run, and I like that daemonic mounts are actually usable now that they can counter-charge.

Dwarves are probably still a bit 'eh', and I think Ogre Kingdoms are now paying the most per Ogre in the whole game for less good Ogres, so that sucks.

As an orc player I am pretty happy. Fanatics got nerfed a bit but who cares only fags max out on fanatics and they will still do damage the turn they are launched. Orcs becoming more viable is mint.
>>
>>98319803
Furious Charge is maybe the most stupid rule they could have given chaos warriors/chosen warriors because infantry don't charge in this game. And if you just need a unit to stand and take hits Marauders are cheaper.

Being able to run Chosen Knights in 3s and Chimera buffs might be interesting.
>>
>>98319821
They don’t charge because prior to giving a bunch of units furious charge you’d still get more attacks coming back at you most of the time…furious charge directly incentivizes the units that have it to charge
>>
>>98319846
Except not all infantry units have FC, and generally you also don't charge because infantry outside of MC are slow as fuck in this game. They should have just let everyone fight in 2 ranks as a core rules change. This is patching a patch.
>>
>>98319821
>warriors because infantry don't charge in this game.
This is literally the reason they did that. To give certain infantry units a reason to charge.

WoC also have several tools to help infantry get that charge, like battle hunger and the whip of +d3 movement. So you can now have 4A greatsword chosen on the charge.
>>
>>98319855
>Except not all infantry units have FC
Yes, because the goal wasnt to increase the offense of state troops and peasants, but "aggressive infantry" which SHOULD be rewarded for charging (like chaos warriors and gors)

I don't play TOW and have no interest in it, so I had no idea there even was a FAQ/update.

It doesn't affect me in the slightest; but if it makes the game better I'm happy for the players that play it.

If it makes the game worse to the point that a some people might abandon the game, I'm happy for the players that will benefit from the influx of used miniatures being sold on the secondary market that will lower prices.

If it makes the game worse but people still play it without enjoying it then I question why people stick with a game they don't like. (But we all know the answer to that)

I would like to put some life back into this general and have a good old fashion painting challenge like we always used to have back in the good ol days of /tg/.
If you guys are willing to participate, we will be having the challenge for the month of August, so you have the rest of July to aquire whatever models or supplies you need.
I have put together this quick poll so you guys can vote on which type of models we would like to paint, and after that's done I can create another poll so we can decide on the theme!

The rules will be simply,
>get a model or unit that matches the theme of the challenge
>you have the entire month of August to complete it
>post you completed project here, at the end of the month we will vote for the winner!
>no prize, just glory and personal pride
>winner won't be who has the strictly best painting technique, but who a combination of painting, adherence to theme, overall effort and SOVL, etc.

Please vote!!!!

I think trolls were at their height in usability when failing a stupid roll made them move straight forward, counting as a charge if they touched an enemy. Stupid is far too big of a negative right now. If stupid acted more like Drunk, it would probably be ok. Where a stupid unit can't do all the magic stuff, but its movement becomes d3+x where X would be its normal movement if you get a 3. Then it's fine, at least they dont just bumblefuck stand around.

True, and making+painting terrain is more fun than painting models.

>Trolls got a bunch of love which I'm very excited about.
They didn't really fix them. They have better leadership now so it's only 50/50 they they do nothing if not babysat which is still painful just less painful. I don't know why they nerfed Stupid. It's not like stupid units like trolls and cold ones were performing too well.

The point reduction is nice. But even if you were running 12+ trolls like me, it's only 24 points, which is like one extra mediocre magic item.

I'm still going to play them in Troll Horde, but the toughness buff to Giants is way better then the troll tweak.
>>
>>98320522
You're probably right, and the problem with trolls goes deeper than just numbers. But I'm still happy the numbers are better. At the end of the day I just love trolls and I'm going to play them even if they're the worst unit in the game.

>460 LoS shouldnt exist period
Completely agree. I know I'm in the minority in this, but I care about having some more or less realistic simulation on the tabletop. I hate stuff like that which seems unrealistic in the context of a formation on the battlefield
>>
>>98320892
It would because
>Unless otherwise stated, a model with this special rule may use it when making both shooting and combat attacks.
>>
>>98320898
Multi-wound hits cap out at the models left over wounds. Those extra wounds are dropped off. Then the regen saves are done for all wounds. In the event of a challenge where the model died, an attack that passes the armor and ward save deals 1 wound, but regen can't be used since it has 0 wounds left.

Example 1. Troll takes 3 hits from a multi wound 2 weapon. First hit deals two wounds, two saves, lets say he fails both. second hit deals two wounds, but troll only has 1 left, so only 1 regen save is attempted and this time he passes. 3rd hit deals two wounds, but troll only has 1 left, so only 1 regen save is attempted.

Example 2. Troll takes cannon hit to face, taking 6 wounds. Troll only has 3 total wounds, so 3 of the wounds from the cannon are dropped, 3 regen rolls are made.

Example 3. Enemy unit on the charge deals 8 wounds to undead unit. 8 different models are dealt 1 wound each, each model makes a regen save. This has implications for fighting back since regen units stay in base to base not stepping up.

This is what I've seen so far at least.

>>98320931
Breath weapons don't roll to hit.
>>
>>98320898
Enemy lands 5 wounds.
Troll has 3 wounds total.
Troll only rolls regent on the 3 wounds.
Since regen is rolled for lost wounds, you can't lose wounds you don't have
>>
Sincer heads, shoulders and weapons are all swappable between Chaos Knights and Chaos Warriors does that increase the odds of God specific sprues being made?
>>
>>98320937
>>98320941
so its mostly only relevant against multiple wound attacks? thats how I would also interpret it.

so 10 wounds from 10 different enemy models cant be shrugged by just making one succesful regensave but you have to roll all of them, yes?

There are lots of different kinds of terrain, each with different rules. Check out the core rulebook, it has an entire section about terrain. If you want to get down and dirty immediately, I'd say you should make 2 hills, a fence, a building, a pond/swamp/bog, a mysterious ruin, and 2 forests to start.
Note that you don't need all this terrain to play the game, but this should cover all your bases.

I've thought that running units of chaos spawn of slaanesh could be fun. They've got strike first and stomps. Random movement is a significant drawback, but it also means enemies can't react to them. What do you think?
>>
>>98319855
I'm not the biggest fan of the blanket FC upgrade, but I can appreciate what they've tried to do:

>Except not all infantry units have FC
Yes, because they are trying to keep 'defensive' infantry defensive, and encourage 'aggressive' infantry to be more aggressive. Works nice fluff-wise too imo.

>generally you also don't charge because infantry outside of MC are slow as fuck in this game
I think the FC patch was specifically designed to stop the 'mexican standoffs' that arose after the 1.5 FAQ, where two opposing infantry blocks would stand 5" apart from each other because neither wanted to charge.

>>98319769
>What do you think of the FAQ?
Overall I think it's decent. Sensible changes with clear reasons. I do like that they're thinking of solutions to game issues other than simply changing points values. Bit concerned that patches patching patches could lead us to rules bloat, just at a slower pace than the mainline games. But not an issue just yet imo.
>How does it impact your army/armies?
Love that I can send my trolls off on their own now instead of being babied by the general, they're some of my favourite units in the game so I'm excited about getting to use them more.
Goblins at I3 feels a little off, they've never been that way before, and especially since their supposedly more cunning siblings the night goblins are I3. Would have happily kept them at 2.
Fine with the changes to fanatics and trollhide trousers, maybe the nobhead tourney players will stop giving them a bad name now.
Giant at T7 is lovely, another unit I really like that has been made a bit more viable.

The main types of terrain you always want are the hills, the forests and the impassable ones (rocks/buildings). The average size for terrain is usually between 4 to 8 inches at its widest point.

A normal table would have around 6 pieces of terrain.

The basic pack you want would be 2 hills and 2 forests and 2 whatever you want.

I would advise you to separate the forest into a footprint piece and removable trees that go on it.
Hills should have very very soft slopes so that blocks of infantry can be sit partially on it without falling.

That's the gist of things but there's also objectives, towers, baggage train etc etc.

Should there be concerns of infantry now fighting double ranks like in 8th? I feel that may inadvertandly lead to one of the contributing factors why 8th went down.
>>
>>98321755
Infantry were already fighting in 2 ranks since the 1.5 FAQ, anon. They only did that when they were charged, though. Now, a couple units can specifically get +1 attacks when they charge.
I would not say that supporting attacks was what made 8th a controversial edition. Step up making initiative a largely worthless stat, steadfast/horde encouraging, if not outright demanding, that you bring units of 40+ infantry, horrendous inter-army balance (corrected years down the line by fan comp, not that anyone who still complains about 8th would know or care), the Purple Sun of Xereus/very specific magic spells being utterly disgusting and game-breaking (which only happened because a counter to enormous blocks of infantry was now necessary, thanks steadfast/horde), batshit insane business decisions made by the gaping butthole of a CEO GW had at the time, sure. But infantry getting supporting attacks, thereby allowing infantry as a whole to be viable and fun to use relative to 6th and 7th? No.

As a Beastmen player, I feel like the further nerfs to Viletide and Hagtree Fetish are me being punished for other people’s spamming. I generally only run level 1-2 wizards, and only one per list, so Viletide was never super oppressive in my groups games (half the time I’d only get if off once, if at all). It was kinda the only thing Beastmen had that was effective against heavy armored units.

I am happy about furious charge though, and the Cockatrice getting cheaper. So it is what it is.

Someone was asking 'why metal minis' in the previous chat, and working on the Manticore I might have a reason- the pewter gives you a really nice texture from the casting to drybrush on, as opposed to smooth plastic.
Also someone give me a fancy idea for how to base this guy cause I got nothing (preferably swamp/jungle related to tie in with my lizardmen so I can do dioramas of my armies fighting)
>>
>>98321943
I really like the feel of metal minis in the hand. But I’ll be honest. I’ve only ever done infantry sized metals because I’ve never done pinning and doing it kind of scares me. Also I need to learn to varnish because some of my minis have already chipped. For those reasons I prefer plastic, but I still like metal too don’t get me wrong. The only material I don’t like is r*sin

Anon, they're naked bdsm elves who literally have orgies as rituals of power- it's not even the writer's barely disguised fetish, it's the writer's openly paraded fetish. Other elves are fine but you can't not have coomerism involved with witch elves because they have coomerism ingrained into their character.

Cathay. Wood Elves get updated within the year, dorfs are only worth it for getting classic Slayers while you still can
>>

>>
>>98322238
The thing holding me back from dwarfs is the multiple generations of sculpts for different kits. I like all the sculpts in the wood elf battalion though. Which is what I would start with. Maybe with Cathay I wait a little and see if there’s people trying to offload half of that starter box maybe
>>
>>98320974
No its fucked.
Unit of 5 zombies gets charged and suffers 10 wounds.
You divy that up and all 5 zombies die, excess disappears.
5 zombies roll regens and 2 survive.
>>
>>98322244
>basically no secondaries
There is literally nothing there to be a secondary fan of, so again, that tracks.
>players vs hobby only guys
This is what I mean, yes. People paint the models and maybe play Spearhead once or twice and that's about it. Only game of AoS I've ever actually seen played in person was at Warhammer World, and it was a game of Spearhead with like 20 models on the table kek
>>
>>98322257
If they suffer wounds from the same source it works as you described. If it’s from different sources it doesn’t because you’re rolling each source of damage individually (each enemy unit). Idk why people are confused seems straightforward to me

Your examples of how its 'supposed to work' are right, though they absolutely infuriate me and are retarded rulings, because now one wound models with a regen have WILDLY IMPROVED odds of surviving multi-wound attacks which is just flat bad.
If a skeleton with a 6+ regen takes a 2 damage attack and has to make 2 regen saves (the way it SHOULD BE) he has like a 3% chance of survival- but because one damage 'falls off' he has a 17% chance of living instead. Fucking RIDICULOUS how much more durable that makes regen models.

>>

And btw lorelet retard, there isn't even A CHANCE gw knew even the Ninja Turtles comic existed until the early 90s or whenever the tv show caught on because the og comics weren't EVEN SOLD in the UK because of their uptight censorship crap at the time. But you wouldn't known that because you're talking out your ass ofc.

Ninja rats weren't even a part of the og lore- that probably came later (and probably had ninja turtle influence sure, but that's beside the point.)

Actually rats predate humans, and in fact human ancestors all through out the time of the dinosaurs were a rodentmorph.

I think I know what you mean. The balloon I agree and don’t like, mostly because it’s too big. The longma I am neutral on. I LOVE the sentinel. >>98323544
>He knew about anime so the ratmen MUST'VE been a reference to Splinter
This is the same setting where you have dinosaurs named after transformers- if Splinter was an inspiration for clan eshin they would've been directed named ninjas rather than assassins right out the game and probably would've had a named chatacter called Lord Skinner or something equally on the nose.

nta, but I absolutely hate how big the balloon and sentinel are
if cathay was developed like a normal Warhammer army the sentinel would have a single pilot and be roughly equivalent to a gyrocopter, while the sentinel would be the size of a normal giant (if not start out as an elite infantry unit that gets redesigned into a monstrous infantry unit around 6th or 8th ed, all so you can have an actual unit of terracotta soldiers)
>>
Mole men were a pretty big trope since pretty much forever (40s?).
I remember seeing plenty of black & white movie posters or very old comics about mole men living underground building shit and being up to no good.
>>
>>98323577
Are you genuinely trying to argue that eshin skaven weren't ninjas now?
>>
>>98323564
>>98323583
The sentinel being huge is justified imo because it’s literally just an animate statue. The balloon is simply too big, and to think there an even bigger Sky Junk that hasn’t come to tabletop yet
>>
>>98323584
As a scifi trope for a future/modern day setting absolutely, but when have you ever seen it integrated into a fantasy setting or story?
>>
>>98323584
No but those aren't rats you see. No human being is capable of changing one rodent for another rodent.
You can only take a zoopromorphic ninja, remove the ninja and the fact that he is actually a man who is rat like (and one of a kind), to make a race of anthropromorphic rats who are about as far from stealthy as possible, and then make some of them ninja's several years after the fact.
>>
>>98323593
They were never referred to a a ninjas in their initial mentioning, only as assassins. YOU'RE welcome to provide a source that says otherwise though, faggot
>>
>>98323584
>>98323607
Oh and of course you have to change the fact that the zoopomorphic man was the second strongest warrior in his multiverse, and the anthropomorphic race of ratmen is literally the weakest race to own a faction on the tabletop.
>>
>>98323604
I do not understand how that justifies anything but enjoy the toys I guess.
>>
>>98323607
>actually a man who is rat
They literally copied this bit to later with Skaven 's origin and the dreaded 13th.
Or were-rats where were a thing in DnD for a very long time.
>>
>>98323606
I doubt that's relevant, especially when skaven are so scifi themselves.
I don't think skaven are the worst case of plagia, obviously that'd be the dwarfs, the orcs or the elves, but they're also a pretty common trope imo.
>>

but he they first appeared in 86 and they were already doing the gutter runner stuff in WFRP books before 1990
>>
>>98323604
I feel like it's the opposite. A hot air balloon should be huge, the basket is too big though.
Sentinels ought be way smaller. Bonegrinders are rarer than hens teeth. Mass produced mobile statues bigger than ogres shouldn't be a thing. Giant sized ones should be "once a century the winds of magic blow strong enough" sort of thing.

>>
>>98324625
No? Why would it.
>>
>>98324373
Wood elves? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say:
Treesinger
Glade Guard
Glade Riders
Tree Kin
Wardancers

I think that both makes sense from a set perspective and from a "what desperately needs updating" perspective. It would also fit the 4 different units quota that these boxes have. At least I hope its this, I could see them not doing the glade guard/riders but god those models are looking very dated now.

Tomb kings its gotta be a refresh of all the old skeletons, so that would mean:

Skeleton warriors
Skeleton archers
Skeleton horsemen
Skeleton chariots

Maybe the liche priest dual kit that was released a lil while back? That or a new plastic tomb king

I could see the horsemen being dual kits but the warriors/archers feels unlikely, modern posing of archers makes it very hard to do dual kits.
>>
>>98324625
They consistently punch up for their cost. I run 2 min size in ambush for this reason. Or a 15 unit in ambush if not playing wild herd. They force the enemy to respond to them at minimum meaning they get to short range very easily and the skirmish keeps them relatively safe.
>>
>>98324480
Oh. I get you.

Honestly I think that early fluff was better when chaos warriors were "hero level" bad guys leading undead, orcs out effect other minions they could find to fuck things up.
