Real D&D involves a reactive sandbox filled with dungeon crawls where the entire worldscape feels alive and uninvolved with the players by default. If you railroad players and leverage quantum ogres to run your sessions, then you're not experiencing real roleplaying games, and you're a bad DM.
>>
Gotta agree, ttrpg isn't vidya where scripted events wait for player's convenience. World should move on regardless of player action or lack thereof. They ultimately don't really matter.
>>
>>98321391
Why do you always post zelda art with these declarative threads
>>
>>98321391
Good DMs don't run shitty systems like D&Dogshit.
>>
>>98321391
>you're a bad DM.
Ah jeez gotta tell my players who've been with me for almost two years now that I'm a bad GM and stop the campaign
>>
>>98321415
Better late than never
>>
>>98321391
how are these low-quality threads never cleaned up?
>>
>>98321417
I told them and they said they liked it anyway
I guess I'm gonna have to keep GMing them :(
>>
>>98321411
How would you know? You've never played a game.
>>
>>98321391
>played a strictly linear game involving only totally pre-planned setpieces played entirely in order and designed specifically with my party in mind
>it was fun
>>
>>98321436
Everyone daydreams about their open world game design, but at the end of the day, most players and GM enjoy a story, hooks, a beginning, middleground and a grand finale.
>>
>>98321391
>Real D&D
I don't give a fuck.
>>
>>98321391
you're doing this again? at least tell me, is it bait or are you genuinely retarded enough to believe it
>>
>>98321391
Random encounters are quantum ogres. No matter where you go, you run into something entirely divorced from your actions.
>>
>>98321423
mods only get paid when 4chan shows ads, and refreshes and posts are "activity" that looks good to advertisers.
QED constant bad faith shitposts and bait designed to farm replies with no deeper substance or enjoyability.

it's been 10 years of a declining userbase and somehow they still havent figured out that not all engagement is good engagement. oh and also a bunch of tranny jannies quit when they got doxxed a few months ago
>>
>>98321473
worse, because technically it's in SPITE of your actions. you roll on the same encounter table no matter what you do to avoid it, same as finding the ogre on both paths
>>
>>98321391
Don't talk about real DnD and real RPGs as if they're the same thing. This isn't a HYTNPDND kind of thing, either, it's just that DnD is a game, not the game, and dungeon crawling is a play style, not the one and only true play style.

> a reactive sandbox filled with dungeon crawls where the entire worldscape feels alive and uninvolved with the players by default
Not doing this doesn't mean that you
>railroad players and leverage quantum ogres to run your sessions
though.
>>
>>98321473
Retard.
>>
>>98321411
/thread
>>
>>98321391
>Real D&D
Real D&D is gay and retarded nowadays. I could honestly care less how a bunch theater-kid faggots run their therapy sessions.
>>
>>98321446
Those aren't exclusive to a railroaded game though, they can dynamically happen in the open sandboxes.
>>
>>98321513
holy mother of buzzwords
>>
>>98321473
Not necessarily, some locations are just teeming with enemies and if you go there you likely encounter them.
>>
>>98321391
>you're not experiencing real roleplaying games
Cool, I'm having a lot of fun with imaginary roleplaying games I guess.
>>
>>98321488
Real D&D involves plundering dungeons in search of treasure to grow strong at the risk of losing your character in some dangerous situations. Lets not pretend that D&D isn't ground zero for whatever derivative work you prefer.
>>
>>98321391
Great statement thread. Guaranteed replies and I predict it will linger for at least two weeks. Fantastic (you) farm. Any new arguments or points? NEVER. Just endlessly vomiting the same starements that have been vomited fpr the past 50 fucking years. This board fucking deserves to die. The posters here are the lowest iq bottom feeders that have never played game but for some reason feel a strong urge to say somethong about a hobby they dont even take a part in. It is so fucking bizarre.
>>
>>98321516
I am sorry that reading very basic English is difficult for you.
>>
>>98321523
can you rephrase this? there's about four different equally stupid ways to interpret it and i want to see which one you intended
>>
>>98321391
>Real D&D
>D&D
Who cares? Anyone playing D&D in 2020+6 deserves whatever miserable experience they're getting for their refusal to play literally anything else.
>>
>>98321526
Cool it with the self-loathing, anon. Maybe you are a low IQ bottom feeder, I'll take your word on that, but I'm sure you have your own good sides.
>>
>>98321391
Real D&D has never been tried.
>>
>>98321409
To ragebait culture wars between two sets of nerds whose mediums are in actuality only separated by about 3 years
>>
>>98321473
>Roll table : Random Encounters
>Results 1-4 : Nothing "the coast is clear!"
>>
>heh, yeah, my TTVG is an open-world reactive sandbox simulation, filled with dungeon crawls and raids, each with bosses and minibosses, and the world has reactive, radiant NPCs who go about their own daily routines. Oh, and it's full if hidden collectibles and cheevos of course!
>>
>>98321804
I will now play your D&D
>>
>>98321839
No, Todd, I am not buying Slyrim again.
>>
>>98321515
In theory, yes. In practice, they never do because most of the time the sort of GM who wants to run an open sandbox games wants to do so because they think it will involve less work than a more structured campaign. Which is the exact opposite of the mindset you need to make a sandbox campaign that isn't completely terrible.
>>
>>98321391
It depends. First few editions sure, but 3-4e felt like games and 5e felt like made up bullshit.
I am more of a gamefag so I prefer the middle but whatever.
>>
>>98321415
>>98321432
You sound like a fag
