Well, you've got me in a potential bind there.
If you don't want to be convinced, there's nothing I can do to convince you.
So you hold all the cards in that exchange.

A good example would be last month when I went up to an airport worker at 5am with a luggage issue.
Not typically the most helpful of people, in my experience.
And she made it very clear up front that this wasn't going to be easy.
But in 5 minutes she went from "That's not how that works, sir."

If you were peak of human charm, people would be always (or at least mostly) helpful to you.
>>
>>98325517
I'm inclined to believe most of the stats that anon claims, to be honest. The thing is that the 6 D&D scores don't really measure everything about a person; just capabilities that some nerds thought would be helpful to a dungeon delver. And the things they do measure are grouped too broadly; someone can be great at sharpshooting but terrible at skeeball or needlework.
So it's possible for some random dude to have overall pretty high stats according to a favorable interpretation (e.g. measuring dex purely on sharpshooting), but that doesn't mean they're some sort of ubermensch.

>DEX
I have surprisingly good balance and can move around/react pretty well for an older overweight guy, but I have zero flexibility.
>INT
Probably 10 or 11.
My strengths lie in English vocabulary, mathematics up to algebra and basic statistics, and basic chemistry, but my lows are very low.
>WIS
Definitely no higher than 5 or 6. Every major decision in my life has been a huge mistake, and I wasted decades of time, tens of thousands of dollars, and so much effort pursuing even a little bit of joy, because everyone in my life lied to me and had me thinking I deserved happiness.
>CON
A lot of things that hurt most people I just kinda brush off, which is strange because I have a heightened sense of touch.
Bad smells, I'm talking rotten-garbage bad, usually don't bother me much.
I rarely get sick, and when I do, it's usually just a little cough or congestion.

Str 15 (easy to check on D&D's encumbrance tables: I can lift 200lbs straight over my head, so I'm Str 15)
Dex 10 (nothing special, but not below average)
Con 15 (I would say my cardio is about as good as my strength, and I resist illness better than most)
Int 16 (I know, I know, but I speak four languages and I don't think I really invested skill points in that, and I have a pretty broad range of skills)
Wis 11 (I do not consider myself to be particularly wise, but looking around I cannot help but conclude I must be above average in this)
Cha 14 (I have good social skills, without really training in them like someone who invested skill points in it)

I know it's expected to have at least one stat below average, but have you seen how awful the average person is at everything? I'm probably underestimating my stats, to be honest.
>>
>>98324992
A fun metric for strength:

>By simply being born male you are stronger than 99.999% of females by default (exempting physical ailment)
>you are, mathematically, above average even if you do no physical activity whatsoever
>if you do just a moderate amount of physical exercise weekly (racquetball, jogging, etc) you jump ahead of more than 80% of 1st world males and into elite level physical fitness for a human being
>if you go to the gym and consistently work out at full intensity, and can bench press your own body weight (not as difficult as it sounds) you are now in the 99 percentile for human strength.
>if you can overhead press 135 lbs, bench press 225, squat 315, and deadlift 405, you are in the top 99.999 strongest people to have ever lived.
>these stats are considered entry-level for powerlifters
You can be a literal superhuman with just one or two years of dedicated training, diet, and sleep routine.

Also
>doing a 15 minute, full body stretch once a day will extend your lifespan by nearly a decade
Fall prevention is wildly important

To expand on this: if we take D&D's "lift over one's head" to mean clean & jerk, the winner of the men's heavyweight category in the Paris 2024 olympics Lasha Talakhadze, who lifted 562 lbs, is Str 23.
>>

CHA: 16. I've held multiple sales-related jobs, and tend to do well at them. People generally like me and have a tendency to open up to me. I have standing offers for a free bed in multiple major cities. I have talked women into sleeping with me within an hour of meeting them.
>>
>>98328817
No, I don't think anyone on Earth is level 20.

Take the Complacent Human subrace from Dragon 320: "These humans hail from decadent, advanced, or exceptionally wealthy societies. Rather than focusing on relentless adventuring, physical survival, or widespread conquests, their culture allows them the luxury of specialization. They focus heavily on physical disciplines for sport and beauty, or intellectual debate for mental stimulation, but their abilities lack the rugged, "real-world" adaptability of standard humans." Describes modern society to a T.

Complacent Humans don't get bonus skillpoints or a bonus feat at 1st level, but they do get +2 to one ability score of their choice. Add the Human Paragon's level 3 ability (Human Paragon definitely seems like a class for Olympic athletes), and you've already got to 22. I think the Olympic weightlifting champion is therefore level 4.
>>
>>98328885
>Olympic Champion
>level 4

Wow. What in the world would you have to be to be level 5 then?
>>
>>98329025

Professional athletes are very specialized and lack a broad range of skills & feats, so of course they're a low-level build that min-maxes a particular stat. While their achievements are impressive, you aren't going to get a lot of Experience™ working out at a gym; if it were that easy to level up no-one would go fighting monsters & shit

High level characters in the real world would probably be special forces and SWAT team members: the kind of people who face difficult challenges on the regular (and thus rack up XP). The reason they aren't physically stronger than Olympic athletes is they're using a build that focuses on martial lethality, not just getting one's Strength score really high.

But the real world's DM is clearly is using a slower XP progression than is default in D&D, because even special forces aren't THAT high level.

Measured as force of will/personality. I'm opinionated, very strong-willed, and have what can be generously described as a memorable personality. At the least, I'm well-known in the local shops I visit regularly (pet store, the Taco Bell I get lunch at every friday), and when it comes down to it I'm pretty good at talking my way out of a bad situation, or otherwise convincing people to see things my way, and I do try my best to be sociable to people IRL. You have 13-14 to STR. 15-16 is on the level of elite weightlifters. 18 is the human maximum. And while I don't doubt you're strong, you're nowhere near the human maximum.

You have 14 to dex. 18 to dex are people who can balance on a slack line, but ALSO compete in the Olympics in shooting/archery. You can do none of that.

I believe you have 12 to CON.

You do not have 17 to INT. That, too, is close to the human maximum. You would need to be on the same level as Hawking, Einstein, or Erdős to be at 17. And you're not. 35 on the ACT is college level and only measures readiness for higher studies. While certainly useful to you, it doesn't tell us anything about your intelligence.

You do not have 13 to WIS, else, all of the above would already be obvious to you. You have 10, tops, and probably lower seeing as how you failed so utterly at this assessment.

You do not have 18 to CHA. If you did, you would know that the way you present your answer here would persuade no one, and would immediately give you pushback. You would also recognize that you have no way to actually convince anyone of your claims, but that is more tied to your low wisdom stat.
>>
>>98329772
According to the numbers in the D&D 3.5 player handbook, I'm 15 or 16 str
Balancing on a slackline is easy with a bit of practice, and one of my friends got me into it.
So I don't think you really know what you're talking about.

12.5 INT if we go by "INT is average IQ divided by 10", and being intelligent never stopped me from being dumb
12 WIS if I'm taking my meds, 8 naturally
12 CHA ditto, maybe 6 naturally, 27 kilos ago, + depression

Pic unrelated
