Playing 40k with the psychic powers, stuff like Mage the Awakening, and other games where spells need to be "aimed" got me thinking, how the hell are spells aimed?
In those games they can still miss, so is it line of sight? Are spells like bullets that can or can not hit something?
If so, wouldn't wizards be better off hoisting their staves on their shoulders for better LoS? (picrel is tacticool'd art of staves but gets across what I'm getting at)
Like, in a ton of games LoS is basically a necessity for gameplay reasons, but shouldn't "aiming" magic work more like inputting artillery coordinates or guiding a missile using radar, or even inputting code into something through some sort of information-relaying medium (the aether or w/e instead of wires and electricity)?

A-i-m-i-n-g. That's how you spell aiming :)

In most games you're just willing reality to bend in a spot you can see. There is no "projectile" or anything you need to shoot.

Don't bring up D&Dogshit, D&Dogshit is made for retards.

Fuck off with this gay Marvel/SCP shit already

How the fuck are you willing something to happen somewhere you know nothing about? You'd have to at least have an idea of what and where
>>
Just think of staves as radio transmitters you fucking autist

You need a hair or fingernail from your target or some other kind of sympathetic connection.

Force of will and power of imagination are different.

Even that detail matters though because then making the spot unclear or clouded or confusing can fuck up the wizard. The exact mechanics of magic matter for any counter-magic strategy.

You focus and aim with your mind

1) put the spell in the bullet
2) put the bullet in the gun
3) shoot the bullet into the enemy
4) now the spell is in the enemy

easy peasy

if spells can enact physical phenomena surely a spell can also be made to act as a vector for another spell?

fuck if I know.
OP wants a mechanism for spells to be aimed that reqs line of sight and can "miss". needing physical projectiles to transmit the spells fits the bill well enough.
