Any GO chads able to explain to me why this move was considered such a monumental fuck up that black should resign instantly? I'm a n00b to go

you lost the tempo and opportunity to connect your two main groups of stones, and now white will capture that area which is effectively the whole game from this position.

Pretty much what >>98338207 said. In Go, Tempo and Momentum are key. If you are too slow or make a mistake, you can lose whole groups and basically go from a huge lead to playing catch up hoping they might make a mistake for just a chance to win.

What did you think this move was contributing when you played it?

At first I thought cutting at J-16 would kill the black group, but wouldn't a ladder work?

I must be retarded and missing something, or maybe the four black stones are okay?

K-17 was still a dumb move that doesn't seem to accomplish anyhthing but it might not be game over?

White doesn't have to try and kill it, especially not now. There are much bigger moves on the board and because black took a turn off to waste its own eye-shape white is free to do whatever it wants.
