You’re feeling the same pain I felt when I realized I might be the problem too. I felt it when I learned of an lgs near me that isn’t an official warhammer store and went to it for the first time.

Games like CAH and Munchkin are for socially retarded faggots who don't know how to socialize or hold a conversation, so they pull out these bullshit, poorly designed piles of shit because they're wacky and silly and get people to say things like
>Pooping out a shit from a butt
and then everyone giggles and pretends that was so clever.
>>
>wanting to share the passion and joy of your hobbies
>with the heartless backstabbing demons known as "coworkers"

I sincerely will never understand how someone could have coworkers as friends

Can you even imagine for a single instant trying to socialize at all with anyone? I sure can't.

I say this.

What's wrong with having coworkers as friends?
I regularly do shit with the guys from work. Last Saturday we had a big bbq at someone's house. Week before that a few of us went shooting together, got a few people who'd never been before into it too. Work is infinitely more enjoyable when you're friends with the people you're spending 8 hours a day with.
>>
>>98341803
I work in a factory/warehouse. Though some of them are among the best human beings I've ever met, all of my coworkers are as dumb as a bag of hammers and talking to them is torture. If I had to spend time with them while not being financially compensated for my time, I'd kill myself.
>>
>>98341681
I have friends and I have coworkers and they are very separate groups. My coworkers ask me if I saw "the game" this weekend, never clarifying what manner of game it was. I've gone to dinner with them, maintained casual conversations with them, and never once thought for even a minute that I would like to engage in hobby activities with them.
>>
>>98341676
I can't imagine spending 30-40 hours per week with someone and not trying to get along.
I don't see coworkers outside work often at all, but I definitely have some that I'm happy to talk to or catch up with on occasion.

Very easy to do this without letting them into your personal life.
>>
I'm a shitty incompetent employee, why would I want to be reminded of that by trying to get closer to my coworkers and probably annoy them further. I also despise smalltalk.

Interacting with co-workers in a corporate, white collar environment is soul-crushing, yet it's mandatory lest you are labeled as "not a team player".

It's all alcohol and low effort political commentary ("did you know the mango monarch is literally Hitler? CNN told me so") and don't you dare actually have a discussion with them. It's just sitting there, doing nothing and talking about nothing.

I'm in the luxurious position where my work is 80% jusy fucking around so I'll treat this partly as the tax I pay for a cushy job, partly a "don't get ragebaited" mental exercise in dealing with midwits where I nod along with "deporting illegals is literally genocide".

Circling back to board games, cards against humanity is probably high effort by their standards. You think these "people" could handle a one-shot dungeon crawl?

I'm not going to dox myself but basically legal affairs with a ministry in my country. Government workers as a whole get really chill working conditions. I could probably earn more as a lawyer, but I've worked with enough former lawyers to know 60 hour workweeks aren't for me?

If only this was the kind of stuff I would think is worth complaining about. Hell I wish CNN was the Iranian news channels calling trump a pedophile and child killer like you think it is. Cushy ass air conditioned job with people who aren't easily amused by an ex reality tv host.

The guy asking you if you saw "The Game" is a /tg/ autist trying to strategically make friends at work to bring in to his elaborate wargaming campaign. You fucked it up, anon.

Also, keeping moderately informed on the doings of Local Sports Team is a cheat code to maximize social ability. Turn on TSN/ESPN while you get ready for work in the morning to overhear the highlights and you hacked the normiesphere.
>>
>>98341047
I tried going to a "board games singles event" in a major city and it was fucking awful. Low turnout, Gender ratio almost 2:1, men to women, everyone there was painfully normie, and the two games on the table were Uno and Jenga. And the organizer's boyfriend was there being an incredibly off-puttingly obvious wingman/greaseman.

I brought Boss Monster, because it was the simplest boxed card game I own. Someone asked me about it, opened the box, started explaining the concept, saw the utterly blank expressions around me, and just stopped mid-sentence and wordlessly closed the box again and put it away.

Then some new chick came in and the wingman immediately started on her. she was suspicious and he wasn't taking the hint, so I leaned in and said
>He's a plant, he's here to warm people up and be every dudes' wingman. Just pretend to talk to me for a minute and he'll go away.

At one point the wingman bothered me again and gave me some schpiel about bEiNg YoUrSeLf and how I'll do great, I have hobbies and such. I was able to not blow up at him, but I left.

I know for a fact that I have coworkers who play D&D, MtG, and 40k. But I play Frostgrave and Battletech, so we don't really have anything in common other than "hey, that guy also plays tabletop games" and basically leave it at that. Some of them have game stickers on their lockers or hard hats.

Not true, my long-term D&D group came about from the guy who trained me at my first job, then quit a couple weeks later, we stayed frens, and he got some guys from his new job to play D&D with us, and 10 years later we are still playing.

I unironically play classic battletech at a boardgame Cafe with 4 other people on a table that is much too small and ends up with record sheets everywhere and take for too much time doing it and order hardly anything and one guy makes loud exclamations whenever anything interesting happens and then we all drunk drive home.

Kek this. I would immediately bail. You cant play this game in todays Western society in general. You play it with normies you walk a very thin line with actual, existencial consequences if you fuck up once and your prize/goal is essentially blending in so much you are not seen or remembered by anyone as if you never played in the first place, you play with counterculture and you know beforehand that everything goes anyway and you are probably in the same room with femboy nazis from discord, incels, groomers, 4channers and people wanking to hardcore carthel rape-torture 12h compilations blasting at 150 dB high on amphetamines for days in a row. Nothing you can make up will result in more than an raised eyebrow at the very most.
There is no reason to get involved with this game in any way.

What companies do you people even work at? The only time my current employer got upset that I did a Hitler impression was because my NeinNeinNein was more convincing this his.
>>
>>98342448
That's the secret to CAH's humor. The first couple times you hear some of these cards, they are funny. If it becomes a game that hits the table every single time you get together with people, it loses all humor and just becomes tedious.

Because friendships and any type of "emotional" connection in a workspace is just asking for some meaningless drama to happen at any point that may fuck up the whole work thing. Also adds an implied obligation of joining the friend group if someone new joins in and those people get excluded from potential opportunities and just connections because they chose to just be an employee and not someone's buddy while doing their job.

Also, nepotism, closed circle issues that ends up stagnating companies when things start to go south, etc.
>>
>>98344437
Maybe you should focus on local news and actually improve your own country/state/county/prefecture/city/village instead of wasting time talking about US politics you don't even have a single ounce of control or influence over. Might as well talk about saint peter's decisions on the local weather.

Boss Monster is a terrible pick. Too thematic, pixel/gamey art and requires a modicum of understanding of sequencing and mechanical understanding.

Carcassone is the perfect boardgame to get normies into the idea of a proper board game while also being incredibly easy to teach and old medieval french countryside is a much better theme to sell to chicks than dungeons and boss fights.

I work in a physical document archive where I organize documents, discard old stuff and scan relevant stuff for the staff to access more easily. Occasionally I have to dig through older boxes, but it's rare. I talk to maybe 2 people a day, at most. It's an archive for a transport company.

CAH is barely a game. We had a family get together and my sister in law insisted that we bust out my CAH (it was a gift) and drink and play it. I'm not actually a fan, so I said we could if we use the Rando Calrissian rule, where you add an extra random white card to the pile and if that's the winning card everyone loses a black card. It completely broke the illusion of the game, and now it never gets brought up and we play Bang! or dominos, real games that feature things like decisions and strategy. I'd rather play Mille Bornes or RISK or even Monopoly.
I'll admit it was fun to watch her struggle with the word "Oedipus" and not know what it means.

> Good Morning Anon! Man, its a hot one out there, isn't it!
> It is frequently warm in the summer. I am not interested in continuing a meteorological conversation. (leaves)
>.... Is that guy always like that?
>.... Yeah.

Local Sports, local weather, local news are how people make small talk and feel each other out. You dont need to spend all day at it, just keep the lines of communication open.

Further, for you autistics on here; a massive cheat code to get someone to like you is to find out what they like and ask them a few questions about it. Let them talk a bit about their favorite thing. The reason it works is because everybody else in their life is likely tired of hearing about their hobby, so a person who is interested and encouraging is going to be the coolest person they meet all day.

Imagine how you would feel if someone actually wanted to hear about your new army, or terrain project, or rpg campaign. You'd love that person. It'd make your day.
>>
>>98348496
Bang is a really solid alternative. Cockroach Poker was one I brought to my family's table to get them to stop playing CAH and whenever they want to play something at a family get together, they ask me to bring it.
>>
Fortunately I met a group of people i play games with at a game store and only have sports conversations if sports are on at the place we are playing games and the game is related to the place one of us is from.

The thought of playing a rule-heavy game with co-workers is anxiety-inducing. Playing a dead-simple game is the correct call in the context of being forced to play with co-workers or people you don't know well.

Panico!, Cat Bellou, unanswered Bang!
>Everyone drinks
