>2nd edition didn't strike me as overbearing when I read it, what did they add to bloat it?
scribd.com/document/370077678/Differences-Between-WEG-d6-Editions-2017-03-16

Fragmented skills into highly specific sub-skills and added formal "Specializations". Players now had to track hyper-specific skills like Space Transports Repair or separate types of firearm mechanics. This forced players to micromanage narrow character sheets rather than relying on heroic, overarching archetypes.

Character Points: CPs served a dual purpose: players could spend them to advance skills or burn them mid-game to add extra dice to crucial rolls (similar to Force Points, but on a smaller scale). This created choice paralysis, as hoarding points for progression conflicted with spending them for immediate survival

Mandated that one die in every single pool must be a designated Wild Die. Rolling a 6 meant the die exploded (allowing you to roll again for higher totals), but rolling a 1 triggered a critical complication or subtracted your highest die. Many players felt this added unnecessary math, slowed down the resolution of simple tasks, and caused slapstick failures that ruined the heroic tone of Star Wars. For comparison, Mini Six kept the wild die, but only the exploding part when getting a 6, and ditched the blotching from getting a 1.

Drastically multiplied the number of Force powers. To activate complex abilities, players often had to roll combinations of all three Force attributes (Control, Sense, and Alter) sequentially or simultaneously. This mechanical hurdle meant that playing a Jedi routinely brought the fast-paced game to a screeching halt while looking up rules, charts, and casting sequences.
>>
>>98346003
Also, 2e attempted to act as a strict physics and tactical simulator. It introduced comprehensive shifting rules for scale differences (e.g., a human trooper attacking a capital ship). By the time Revised and Expanded rolled around, scale adjustments required adding or subtracting massive quantities of dice to rolls, giving birth to the term "buckets of dice" where a simple resolution required rolling and totaling dozens of physical d6s.
>>
>>98346016
Open D6 clarifies you should never actually roll 30D. It's 5D+75.
I think scale works better as a flat value anyway. I really need to get around to Dorking Hyperspace D6
> t. D6 nerd
>>
>>98346003
>>98346016
A little more historical context for all this to make sense, and to know from where this D6 lineage's DNA comes from. When WEG got Star Wars license, they weren't totally commited into doing actual TTRPGs, since they were more a wargame publishing company. It was thanks to Greg Costikyan that they switches more towards TTRPGs, Costikyan whom designed Toon, (the grandfather of Fudge and Fate), and who designed also Paranoia, one of WEG's firsts TRPG bestsellers, etc, through his contacts WEG was able to strike a deal with Chaosium, yes, that Chaosium, to design what became the Ghostbusters TTRPG. Since WEG owned the Ghostbusters D6 system, Costikyan, Dough Kaufman (and others) got the job of re-tailoring it for their newly acquired license, Star Wars. But Costikyan left and it was Bill Slavicsek who took the wheel and did the subsequent first Sourcebooks, giving some coherence for most of the lore that eventually became the EU/legends.

So the thesis is that this sort of game was designed to be cinematic, not simulationist, tailored for fun, not crunch. I even know people who refer to WEG's Ghostbursters system as the most elegant streamlined design ever, and certainly it is good for what it is. These are 80s blockbuster movies.

WEG's SW 2e (blue vader book) got out some time later, but with many flaws, that's why they made the revised edition later (millenial falcon cover).

With time there were more streamlined evolutions to the system, like HyperspaceD6, and Mini Six's Imperium in Revolt. Not counting the multiple house rules shared by the community at places like Rancor Pit and D6 Holocron, google+ etc. For example, my favorite force simplification is the one called "Simplified Force Rules" but the document says "Revised Force Powers", and it focus only on the force powers displayed in the movies.
>>
>>98346048
>Open D6
That's the thing, you said it, Open D6, Not WEG's 2e R, that clarification didn't exist back then through all those long years where 2nd edition and 2nd-revised were the only thing around.

OpenD6, specially OpenD6 Space is what was going to be WEG's Star Wars 3rd edition (not to be confused with the shooting womp rats 3rd edition) if they would had not lose the licensing deal.
Even Mini Six also uses this as an optional rule (and nobody reads or use those, despite fixing lots of the troubles). There are multiple tweakings to this rule, my favorite and more accurate is adding +7 for every pair of dice we are not going to roll from the huge ass pool. (instead of just +3 per dice)
>t. D6 nerd too.
>>
>>98346110
I like static values (including flattened dice) being slightly weaker than rolls. It means the active party has the advantage. Admittedly, M6 characters *really* need to use cover and concealment in firefights.
>>
it's kinda funny that talzin does more for ventress than her literal own son

Yeah, static values are way better, and body points (hp) too.

>Admittedly, M6 characters *really* need to use cover and concealment in firefights.
Yup, that too, I like Breachworld's cover additions to the usual cover table, with the smoke/fog and light/dark, PICREL.

thanks, great summary. I did notice the specializations when I read the rules and didn't get the point of them. Are they just extremely narrow skills? I expected it would give a bonus dice or something at character creation for the trouble, but doesn't seem like it

>>98346084
cool, I've also heard people claim that ghostbusters is a great game. I have a few of WEGs actual wargames too like imperium romanum II.
They of course also made both a star wars miniature game and a starfighter game decades before legion and X-wing which is fun

>>
>>98347498
>thanks,
yw!

>I did notice the specializations
Yeah, they are not exactly well done in SW2e, they come as taxing. They are narrow skills, and depending on how hardcore RAW you'll enforce them, you'll have to penalize your players when they try to do something they have not specialization at. I see stuff like that as WEG's effort to make the ruleset feel crunchier, less for kids? It was a bad move. I haven't read Gallant Knight games' D6 sytem: Second edition yet. I wonder how they tried to evolve this rule. But If needed I would go with the Mini Six way of doing them, combat skills don't have specializations.

If I'm playing in a high trust table, I let them use their skills in a more liberal way, kind of like Fate aspects, but if I'm playing with munchkins I let them have specializations and quasi skills in the style of Mini Six.

Another possible issue you'll encounter, If you are going to run this with a certain kind of table, you'll run into issues when having Jedi PCs, depending on their personalities I'd advice you to house rule, I let them have 'Force' as an attribute, without giving them extra attribute dice at char creation, then each skill pip upgrade could cost x3-5 instead of 1. Skills under Force could be the trad 3 force WEG categories, Control, Sense, Alter. Or try the quasi-skill thing, you'll see what fits best. If you let them have those RAW you'll have unstoppable demi-gods in no time, and the non-force-sensitive players will feel left behind (a Finn & Poe situation? lol)

>They of course also made both a star wars miniature game and a starfighter game decades before legion and X-wing which is fun
I've read those ones are a better option to switch to if your spaceship battle is a big one, not the usual one-on-one.
>>
>X-wing doesn't exist anymore
>ships are pretty pricy
>conversion kits are scalped to hell

I'm still baffled. Why did they do it?
>>
>>98347730
>? It was a bad move.
Oh, and I forgot to say, all that and more is why I don't play 2nd ed RAW. It ends being a house rules hodgepodge of 1ed(Revised)Classic Adventures, OpenD6 Space, HyperspaceD6, and Mini Six, (an Rancor Pit stuff, lol)

It is quite interesting how after a certain amount of crunch was reached in the 2000s, the design tendency in the late years was to streamline the D6 systems, tuning balance, and the effort to make it play faster.

I know lots of peeps get and swear on REUP, But I don't know how much of that is just collectors collecting and being completionists, it is a laudable effort, but a 500+ pages book isn't exactly the best to use at the table. So I consider REUP not an effort in design and depuration, but in amalgamation.

yes that's possible. Not every ship has good files, but many of them do. The major advantage of 3D-printing is that you can actually make every ship 1/270 scale. Major disadvantage is that it's a lot more work than the pre-painted models.

So in the scene where Luke switches off his targeting computer and uses the Force, the mission control knows that he turned it off.
This means there's some sort of a wireless communication between the computer on board of the X-wing and the computer all the way on Yavin IV.

What are, like, the limitations of such wireless communication? The Death Star plans were a physical object that needed to be transported by hand.
>>
>>98351163
Presumably upload speed. It's not that they needed to be uploaded per se, more that they would be intercepted before the upload would be fruitful.

Also, the DS trench run occurs in the Yavin system, relatively close to Yavin IV (DS was in orbit of the same gas giant the moon orbits), whereas the plans needed to be transported from one system to another. Star Wars does have FTL communications technology (we see it in the films), but depending on the limitations it might not have been possible to safely transmit the plans. Like if you need a transceiver keyed to a specific receiver, there would have been a risk that if the Empire captured the transceiver they could use it to trace the location of the hidden Rebel base.

If you are actually rolling out the dice for some dude's 20D blaster accuracy against the 20D star destroyer hull then I don't know what to tell you.

Not to come across as cringy or edgy, because I know the blaster is such a strong invention, but are there any planets or societies that still hold swords in high regard? I'm essentially looking for the civilization equivalent of Teras Kasi or the Echani, but with swords. I'm looking for a group of people that train with swords so much that someone with a blaster could confront them, and the sword master could come out on top. Would my only option be the Teras Kasi or the Echani?

Technically they should probably be considered subspecies. Neimodeans are descended from Duros colonists from the early days of space exploration before modern hyperdrives. They were isolated from the rest of the Duros population long enough to genetically diverge from them and develop their own distinctive traits.
They're still similar enough in appearance that after the Clone Wars gave the Neimodeans such a bad name a lot of them started to claim they were baseline Duros when interacting with other species.

>>
>>98387352
Its a fantasy movie made by Christopher Nolan, an autistic materialist who despises fantasy and rips it out of whatever source material he's given. He did the same thing with his Batman movies but what he did with the Odyssey was even more insane because you can't take the esoteric and divine out of a story where the gods regularly waltz in and out and hand gifts/advice to the protagonist.

To keep with the thread theme, might as well have gone to watch a remake of A New Hope where Obi Wan is just a madman in the desert and the Force doesn't exist.
>>
>>98387371
Anon, I guess you haven't seen the movie, but the movie seemed very esoteric and divine to me. There was a lot missing from the actual story, but then the movie probably would've been 4 hours instead of 3. You should catch a camrip of the movie if you haven't already.

It's getting off topic though, so I won't bring it up anymore. As far as the thread theme, it's more like A New Hope, but Obi-Wan is more of the main character and he's haunted by Clone Wars up until he meets Vader. Luke would be B plot.
>>
>>98387399
I did see the camrip.
Athena isn't even real and she's the only one who shows up. Half of Odysseus' encounters are glossed over and its own internal characterization is busted because it tries to paint Odysseus as a man who solely wants to save his crew when its him that decided to sail southward in the first place instead of Poseidon screwing him over.

I could see someone giving a 5/10 but calling it a great movie is retarded. Especially with the shit dialogue.
>>
>>98387352
Racists are mad because in the scenes taking place during the Trojan war Helen is played by an African-Mexican actress instead of a blonde blue-eyed Aryan.
I think it's obvious that the film isn't even going for historical accuracy, but with whatever the director thought looked cool. Considering the original story is a myth, I don't really have a big issue with taking stylistical liberties. Even ancient Greek art depiction the Iliad and Odyssey were historically inaccurate, since they depicted the characters wearing contemporary hoplite armor and not authentic pre-bronze age collapse styles of armor.
>>
>>98387415
Oh how I Iong for the authenticity of a Scandinavian Helen.
>>
>>98387540
Beware, there is a weirdo theory the Iliad and the Odysseys takes place in the Baltic during the Nordic Bronze Age.
An idea, while highly gameable, sits in the stupid source pile.
>>
>>98387572
I remember that. IIRC it was started by an Italian engineer with no background in history and based purely on the fact that there's a Finnish town called Toijala, which sounds fairly close to the Finnish spelling of Troy (Troija).
>>
How would the Odyssey even work in the confines of Star Wars, from a tabletop perspective? Would all the advice from the gods have to be the Force? Is there a reasonable explanation for a trip from one planet to another to take 10 years despite Hyperspace travel existing? does the empire maintain some sort of representation on planets were they have troops/ships but were the planet already had a civilian government when they were part of the republic? To be fair, that's the entire point of Disney's Inquisitors. You have no name, you are just a number. You are cannonfodder who will die doing the piddling crap that Vader can't be bothered with. And if you get any funny idea's about "Gaining Power" or anything like that, you die sooner.

This is why i hated Kenobi, they had an interesting new idea for Inquisitors, one that makes a lot more sense than Legends (Because, for some reason, in Legends, the guy who refuses to have anyone that can rival his power, constantly surrounds himself with hyper-competant, powerhungry madmen.) And they couldn't even keep THAT consistency. Black Inquisitor should have just been a number. That's it.

Yeah, as much as i love Jerec and all of them, they all seemed a little too competant for the "I found an apprentice who was actually stronger than me, so i literally trapped him in a suit that nerfs him to fuck so he won't overthrow me" guy. Then again, maybe, just like the Prequel trilogy, someone made a bunch of shitty storytelling decisions and then, later on, someone came around and framed it in an actually good way to make people like it. Don't get me wrong, i like the cannonfodder Inquisitors, makes perfect sense from the Sith mentality. "I only need 1 apprentice, so every other force user is either a rival or a chess piece to be sacrificed for my gain." But a lot of the Disney stuff that actually works seems to fall into 1 of 2 catagories:

1) Lifted straight from Legends and given a new coat of paint
2) Someone made something shit and then someone far more competent found a way to make that shit work.

Magnaguards are an obvious pick to pair with Grievous.
Super Tactical Droids (either customizable or Kalani) can help him control his army more easily. STD are easy to include and can make any CIS army better.
After that I'd just take what you like most.

Sun Fac is cheap as fuck and can also be added to most armies really easily.
If you want more melee power a unit of BX droids with Asajj is fast and can fuck up most things.
Spider Droids are very flexible: they can be short-range flamethrowers to mess up infantry, more expensive long range ion artillery to disable vehicles and droids, or just use the basic laser cannon.
Also it's a boring answer but I always advise people to try a starter game to figure out what they like.
Do you enjoy Dekas, B1s or B2s and want to spam more of them?
Do you feel you'd enjoy a faster unit like Wheelbikes or STAPs?
Would you rather have a big expensive tank like the Snail or AAT?
Do you want more melee dudes with Grievous, like Magnas and BXs?
That's the kind of thing you only get a feel for after playing.

They were a badly thought out plot point by bad writers for a forced 'era' that nobody cared about
>>
>>98415735
They are the equivalent of Native Americans and terrorists at the same time.
The Sioux never threatened DC but did defeat scattered and isolated US (or Canadian if we are talking about the Métis and the Red River Rebellion) army units.
Islamic terrorists either did terror-causing but limited strikes on civilians/lightly defended military facilities or get rolled by a half-way trained and motivated force like the Kurds.
>>
In both cases they are a persistence annoyance that requires sending military forces cautiously into unknown and far away territory.

OK, maybe I'm not everybody. I don't really mind (Ko)ToR, but it's all just way too obviously done to be !not OT, instead of being its own thing.

> the eras between it and the fall of the republic
there is basically a great blank, so I think they wanted to fill that?
Anyway, what they did was badly thought out, incoherent, and not well supported.

Instead fo cool High Adventure with Jedi Space Monk-Wizards in Space, we got some random books that more or less flopped.
No games, no videogames, I think tehy tried a comic. No cartoons, no movies, and teh TV series that they sorta-kinda placed in that era was the doomed-by-horrible-writing Acolyte.

The entire High Republic thing hd a plot that was worse than the original ToR plot, and that was a fucking 2010 MMORPG aimed at 'beating' World of Warcraft.

>The entire High Republic thing hd a plot that was worse than the original ToR plot, and that was a fucking 2010 MMORPG aimed at 'beating' World of Warcraft.
I don't think the original TOR plot (the class campaigns) are particularly bad. They're clearly designed to give you the "class fantasy" of playing as a Jedi knight, a Sith lord, a bounty hunter, etc. and for the most part do that. It makes them fairly generic since they more or less have to let you go through iconic plot points that you'd associate with each class (surprise, surprise, as a Sith you'll have to eventually kill your master and take his place!), but they mostly pull those plots off well enough.
>>
>>98416736
Well yes, that was my point. ToR had a good plot, but it's still a 15 year old MMORPG.

And what Disney did for High Republic was worse. They didn't think they needed good writers, they didn't think they should get feedback for their proposed designs and stories, they just fucked it up and doubled down on failures instead of correcting course.
>>
>>98416381

Vrook Lamar, and I don't care that Ed Asner voiced him. His dogmatic view of the Jedi and the Code led to the near destruction of the Jedi Order, save for the Exile and her followers. Even Mace Windu has better characterization.

>>98420574
Wrong. Vrook is Mace, but taken to a way higher degree. At least Mace is cool.
>>
>>98418053
It's literally the starter planet for the two Jedi classes in TORtanic. Satele Shan rediscovers it after the Jedi Temple gets fucked by the returned Sith Empire and moves the order there to hide like sissies.
>>
>>98421179
That still means it's relevance in the (Old) Republic era boils down to starting location of two classes in an MMO, and (lore-wise) the place the Jedi order stayed at while the temple on Coruscant was being rebuilt. Meanwhile the Dawn of the Jedi is an entire comic series taking place on Tython explaining the origins of the Jedi, which was at one point supposed to have a Disney+ series adaption under development (though it's been a long time anything's been mentioned of it so it might have been canceled). So the odds are that references to Tython in a novel are intended as Dawn of the Jedi glazing (possibly to tie in with the series if it's still being worked on, or was at the time of writing), rather than TOR glazing.
>>
>>98420602
Vrook is the Jedi. He's not an aberration or a counterfactual, he is what the order will always ossify to, because the Jedi Order a hierarchy that embeds itself into the imperial core of the ruling government. The Jedi are janissaries. They're also the feds. They were always going to be possessive of their power, of wielding it, and being afraid of losing it. That's why Yoda starts the Clone Wars with Geonosis.
>>
>>98422207
Let's be honest, Vrook never would've launched a rescue mission for Obi-Wan and Anakin, and he definitely would've been vehemently against using any army. I wouldn't conflate Yoda's choice with Vrook's actions or ideals.

>>

In Jerec's case, wasn't the point that he wasn't actually somebody who could rival vader or palpatine? The only reason he's a threat is because he's going up against a guy who just found out he can use the force and picked up a lightsaber for the first time. If Luke heard about what he was up to, he would have been taken care of long before he ever got near the valley of the jedi.

The very first episode shows a destroyed Corusant and wrecked Clone Wars-era ships, so it's clearly meant to be post that, maybe in a Gundam AU kinda way were a lot of them are meant to have UC Gundam in the distant past but don't really focus on that at all
>>

What i meant was more a case of "Wherever we are in the timeline, we've never been here before" So, we're not going to see any familiar faces. Maybe a few namedrops of characters, possibly someone in a holocron. Much like in Old Republic with Jolee talking about his adventures with Nomi Sunrider.

But realistically, i doubt they have the rights to any of those characters, so probably not. Point is, I'm happy to see the galaxy in a new light. Coruscant is fucked, implying the Republic is either gone or relocated, i'm curious to see how the Galaxy got to this. Although i also doubt we are going to get that story.
>>
>>98465889
they are a lot better than starter decks for some games. I like those decks and they'll give you real games against casual LGS caliber decks. If you plan on playing at an LGS, they might be a little weaker than other choices, but if you want to just learn the game or play at home, they're great.
>>
>>98466388
I heard it was 1000 years after the movie. The ship you mentioned did resemble a lucrehulk but differed; probably intended to be by the same manufacturer.

It seems to be a Star Wars era of warring states where trade alliances and warlords have divided up the galaxy and fight for control. All the unrecognizable species make me think more of Wild Space and the Unknown Regions have been colonized.

I think I saw two Twi'leks, that was all that was from old lore other than humans unless the space elves and dwarves were supposed to be something in particular. It would be nice to get a setting guide but I won't hold my breath.

>>
>>98474081
You hate peak?
>>
>>98474337
Let me put it like this. Especially for CRPGs, class-based systems and character building is disruptive to immersion and gameplay. You go into the game inherently distrusting it, and usually you end up locked out of something unknowingly. And so, once burned, you fall to the madness. It becomes about researching more than playing. And that opens the door to minmaxing or actively trying to avoid minmaxing.
And yeah, the entire genre is built on it. You pick a class, progress to an end-point, and you're thus gated from doing anything else based on initial choices. I'm a fan of the idea of "Here's the world, explore." and "You have skills? Exhibit them." and "You want skills? Work for them."
>>
>>98474359
I don't see a problem with what you said, but I'm definitely more of a "I guess I'll just try that next playthrough" person. It also helps that I've been playing Kotor 1 and 2 since release.

So, kino.
>>
>>98474393
NTA, but I'm not a fan of the Saga system KOTOR 1 and 2 uses, which is basically just DnD mechanics forced to fit into SW. KTOR 1 also has the issue where the optimal way to play is to not level at all until you complete the Taris section, which is pretty long and not designed to be beaten at level 1, because once you get off Taris and gain a Jedi class any levels put into your starting class are effectively wasted.
>>
>>98477618
It's not actually an issue though because playing "optimally" to that degree is not necessary to play and enjoy the game. A first time player coming to it unspoiled won't feel cheated because even a character who wrings every last point of XP out of Taris and spends it all before becoming a Jedi still gets an adequate version of the power fantasy.

Literally the only people who care are rabid autists who chuck a full blown melty at the thought of not minmaxing every single aspect of their character, a mentality that makes even less sense in the context of a single player CRPG than it does anywhere else it festers.

I miss Andor. I could've watched ten straight seasons of comfy ISB investigations and roundtable meetings, the story wouldn't even have to progress beyond that.

I'm actually mad I can't watch those scenes for the first time again.
>>
>>98477618
>>98477699
It gets better, though. Because jedi are handled via D&D wizard rules. And so not only does the multiclass thing relegate the starting class to, at best, 3 levels to get the second free feat set, but it also means that certain choices are just better. If you want to enjoy the game the most, arguably you don't even do the jedi shit. Because the most versatile play style is just running as Soldier. And the game also uses D&D wizard rules for Jedi. So if you've invested into using armor at all, good luck with that because you can't use (certain) force powers when wearing armor.
>>
>>98477889
I loved those scenes, too.
I'd like to see a character like Syril Karn who is the victim of some rebel terrorism and joins the Empire believing it the best way to maintain law and order and working their way up the ranks of the ISB, justifying the awful things they see as part of insuring the greater good before growing disillusioned with the reality of the Empire.
They never defect, they are killed by their superiors at the ISB while on mission and their death is used as a justification for even more oppression and evil.
>>
>>98477618
>because once you get off Taris and gain a Jedi class any levels put into your starting class are effectively wasted
I believe this is technically wrong. For example, with Scoundrel, you get the bonus feat "Scoundrels Luck" which provides a permanent +4 to Def at lvl7, and Sneak Attack which gives +4 - 24 dmg, in addition to more Skill points, which favors a 7 Scoundrel/13 Consular build. That also goes the same for Scout, which gets free Implant feats and Uncanny Dodge for a permanent Dex bonus at lvl7. With Soldier, while yes, you would lose out on maximum number of FP and a couple of Force Power by lvl20, I'm pretty sure Soldier still has the highest Feat progression of all of the classes, so it wouldn't be so bad to go level Soldier a bit before Guardian if you want to play a melee build.

Redpill me on the Star Wars FFG rpg anons. From what I've read and seen, it leans more on narrative then mechanical gameplay and allows for more cinematic storytelling in your games. I imagine this will require an even more crafty and flexible GM than usual.
How does it compare to other SW games like Saga or the WEG one?
>>
>>98486412
I liked FFG, but yes, its rules tend to be very soft and fluffy compared to the hard number crunchy-ness of WEG.
Saga is if you really liked D&D3.5 and want a clunky Star Wars skin stretched over it.
There's also SW5e if you've only ever played 5e and want a clunky Star Wars skin stretched over it.

But back to FFG, I do really like its Soak system, so damage never gets too insane.
The special dice can be hard to get and knowing what to roll can take some time to get down. But it's not an FFG game if it doesn't have bespoke dice. And since it's a dice pool, you roll the dice and have two different axes of success. There's the basic Success/Failure axis symbols. Having more Successes than failures means you succeed at what you're rolling for. Excess Success symbols can boost what you're doing, like adding additional damage during attacks. Then there's the Advantage/Threat axis, which can boost what you're doing if you get more Advantages than Threats and a certain number will let you crit an attack. Or you can succeed but have something bad happen due to more threats, like your gun jams or the power cell runs out and you have to spend an action next turn fixing that.
Nothing dramatically good or bad until you roll the yellow/red dice and get a Triumph (critical success) or Despair (critical failure). There's a chart showing what can happen, but your GM can make something up on the spot to fit the situation.

Its rules as written are meant to be theater of the mind, but I do actually recommend doing some homebrewing and working out the distance bands in feet/meters so you can put down a grid map and use minis for combat.
I did a short campaign of it with no map for combat and the GM just rolled to see which player the enemies shot at. Which didn't feel very realistic and felt bad when the enemies kept shooting the diplomacy-focused dude in light armor instead of the big droid that was built to take a hit.
>>
>>98487168
Also, I highly recommend everyone sit down for a proper session 0. There are a TON of talent trees to choose from and a lot of them have talents that are very niche in their use, so be sure to have a discussion with the GM if, for example, going down this talent tree that makes you good at hacking is actually going to come into play in the campaign.
A lot of the books are out of print, but the links in the OP should have them all there for download.
>>
>>98486412
I'm having a hard time going back to a d20 system after this. It's got a good rhythm and I'm liking the skill trees as classes

watched a couple videos of the new zero company gameplay and character customization
has me super excited, still won't preorder, need to hear from day1 players if they manage to fuck it up
>>
Had an interesting thought today. I was listening to a youtube video about how Obi Wan is basically the one Jedi who Sith don't get/think of as a risk and that's what fucks up all their plans.
Because his power is his discipline and his humility, he's a guy willing to spend 25 years living in a hole in the wall in the middle of the desert, wasting the best years of his life because someone needs to keep an eye on Luke, and because he doesn't grasp for power, martial prowess or have any great ambitions they don't really see the significance of him, ect, ect.

Which got me thinking about pic related and a Jedi's relationship with The Force, since it seems that the whole 'Complete submission' aspect is often viewed as being entirely passive and disinterested in the world, when in reality it seems that yielding to the inevitable cruelties of life without resentment or hatred, but still doing what you can to serve others and help them is what gave Obi-Wan strength and brought down the Sith in the end.

Basically what I'm trying to say is I hate to admit it but those crazy Fujoshi who are always posting 'Obi-Wan is a powerbottom' shit on pinterest/tumblr might be tapping into some deeper understanding than I like to give them credit for.

No
Legion has CIS and republic as well, and smaller factions for shadow collective, and now one for purely mandalorians
and as far as model ranges CIS for example has geonosians and multiple variants of b2s, magnaguard, aquadroids, crab droids, BXs, and the standard b1s and droidekas, multiple vehicles and leaders including customizable tactical droids, pretty much the only factions with smaller model ranges are shadow collective and mandos

I hate capeshit so much it's unreal, and I feel I need to articulate the true extent of my distaste.
>nothing ever happens
Most capeshit is eternally stagnant, everything reverting to the same, somewhat idealized version of modern reality at the end of each story. Nobody truly dies, as that could decrease merchandising value.
>status quo propaganda
The only people who want to change anything are the villains. The heroes are entirely the tools of the status quo, always fighting to prevent anything from changing. Even if institutions are portrayed as bad, those that want to change them are always worse. In this framing, neoliberalism is the best system possible, and the heroes are its champions. The heroes are entirely reactionary, with no of their own.
>lack of a coherent magic system
When everyone has their own unique thing, there really is no rhyme or reason to the wider world. This also often goes with a complete lack of any regard to creating a believable setting with concrete rules and believable technology. (Why is someone who looks exactly like a human able to just fly through space? Why do so many "aliens" look exactly like humans?)
>Marvel millenial writing
Capeshit stories are the originators of this insufferable, irony poisoned writing style. Stories that are afraid of sincerity cannot have genuine stakes.
>Great man theory propaganda
Capeshit genre seems entirely subservient to it, which I feel pushes a bad message. Only the "specials" can do anything, while the normal people only exist to be victimized or rescued (conveniently while having all of their property wrecked).
>Multiverse slop
Almost all capeshit seems to follow the multiverse convention nowadays. Once again, multiverses devalue the established world. If there is an infinite amount of worlds and versions of you, nothing ever matters. Add to that that most capeshit is too cowardly to fully commit to the concept, adding an "original timeline" that "actually matters".
>>
>>98494889
I suppose if I had to sum it up, capeshit is almost always entirely meaningless. It exists so good little consoomers can basedface over two toys smashing into each other, while being propagandized that nothing needs to change, that good little sheep don't need to do anything, just wait for the hero to save you.

It really says it all that the moat beloved superhero is a billionaire whose entire philosophy is preventing him from changing anything.

I would love to watch a show about that, feel like there plenty of room to explore all sorts of stories within the ISB, could follow an agent or a small team as they must navigate themselves around the top dogs within the ISB and the Empire, while dealing with rebel threats, could be as >>98483863 said it would need to be someone who is deranged who willing to carry out mass genocides to kill a single imperial commander like lobbing a meteorite into a planet's capital because they just want to make sure hes dead and justifys it by declaring it was a empire loving planet so they were all enemies to the rebellion

And other plots ranging from dealing with dick-waving contests between other imperial departments to moffs at each other's throats to maybe something silly as a Chiss conspiracy plot because someone saw a imagine Palpatine with Thrawn and declares he is in bed with aliens and the Empire must know as he floods the holonet with this with this rubbish. If you want something with the crunch level between 2E REUP and Hyperspace D6, try 1e REUP, also known as SW Classic adventures, it uses some of the fixes from 2e, incorporating them into 1e. Check PICREL for a comparison.

>>
>>98497632
I had never tried Hyperspace D6 out of being very skeptic about their use of skills as only a +bonus, it breaks lots of previous compatibility among all D6 system stats and change the maths behaviour of the system. Even more extreme versions of the system like Micropend6 don't break this compatibility at the core level, Mini Six don't break this either. I guess the author did that to avoid having huge dice pools, but breaks compatibility with content across all the D6 system ecosystem, and I don't mind huge dice pools. Also he mentions Star Wars D6 Rules Essentials as an inspiration, you can check that one too for a very tacit (houseruled/homebrewed) version of the SW D6 rules.

I guess I should not be so prejudiced about hyperspace d6, but the only way to know is to have the system widely playtested, I guess I could join their discord, I've heard the big 3.0 version is going to come out sooner or later.
