Welcome to Mecha Monday! Here we dedicate ourselves to mecha RPGs, wargames, and boardgames alike. Here we start games, tell campaign stories, share resources & assets, and seek advice for our games and homebrew.Assorted Mecha Goodness:https://pastebin.com/E2wi55AZEmbryo Machine Translation:https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1r_cjOLuUp3HussVRhbQYU3G0zK6hwy1rLancehounds Homebrew:M3g4 folder/eMEBUbCL#kj2FRrlqTa-02U16XpnVRgPrevious Thread: >>98247791Question of the Thread: Favorite mecha redesign?Thread Theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AuvSns9H-FI
>>98346561>TQI really like MWO's iteration of the Marauder 2. Which is good, because I really didn't like how they did the Marauder 1. The big gun should be on the center.I like when mechs have a defining weapon.
How big do you usually make your mechas?
>>98346664Gundam's "ten times the height of a man" is about my limit, big enough to be giant robots but small enough to still be able to interact with humans and human-scale environments.
Question for the mechheads: what's your favourite ruleset for playing mech games?I find battletech to be a lot of fiddly squeeze for very little juice. Titanicus was great but more evocative of supermassive 'landships' than mechs.I've got gamma wolves, which seems a bit autistic, and mac attack, which looks fun but might have overcorrected the simplicity, however I haven't gotten either of them on the table yet.Any recommendations?
>>9834666410 - 13 meters for the "average" mecha, 15 - 18 for a big one, and around 25 meters max for something that's supposed to be gigantic. Going bigger than that makes it hard for the mechs and non-mech vehicles and humans to meaningfully interact, while anything smaller than 10 meters is a mechalet.
>>98346607The thing that always get is just how FASA/CGL seemed to see the over the Marauder's turret position. Every time they had an excuse to move it to the RT on art, from Phoenix revival reworking to early Shad art for CGL, the fanbase immediately complains about it and they switch back. It's like, if they cared that much they could've just had the turret be an AC/2 instead of an AC/5 to fit into the CT and raise the armor up to 13.5 tons. There, easy way to match the art they willingly based the Marauder on.
>>98346664I always thought Gunbuster and Ideon were roughly the same size but I guess not. Feels like they should be, since I'm pretty sure Gunbuster having a Zeon-style monoeye was a reference to Ideon having a GM face.
>>98347882I feel ya. Battletech is way too slow to be fun, while Mac Attack feels simultaneously too simple and abstract in a pretentious way.My current go-to is Flames of Orion. It's more of a Mordheim-meets-mecha in the way it plays, from the battlefield to the campaign system. The matches are quick and gruesome, the heat mechanic works well and explosions can be really fun when they inevitably happen. The campaign has you gaining credits, parts and pilot upgrades, you can also get your units damaged or even destroyed. All in all, the whole experience feels a lot like the PS1 Front Mission games, which is exactly the kind of flavour I was looking for. The game encourages kit bashing and homebrewing if you're into that, and the example campaign works well as a starting point to make your own. There are some mini expansion's that add extra equipment and options such as playing with mostly infantry guerrilla units, they come in three-fold pamphlet format and I just think that's neat.
>>98347882I play battletech all the time and it's probably the worst game I've ever played. It's excessively random and the amount of time spent resolving individual events is not in line with the significance of the individual events and tge system never, ever going to get any substantive improvement. It scales so badly its not funny. Anyway I'll be playing on Thursday.
>>98348312Thanks! I looked it up and it definitely looks to be worth a buy.
>>98348949There's a free version that's only missing some art, lore and the example campaign, if you're inclined to take a look at it.
Anybody knows a good systems that uses HG scale gundams and 10/6mm miniatures?

>>98350349That's a question I've been wondering myself for ages
>>98347882You could try out Heavy Gear Blitz. Its not as complex as BT but it is closer to Alpha Strike. Regardless its got some meat to it.
>>98346607Really? I'm not that big on that one or the current plastic sculpt. The wings are a big part of it>>98348103Because the AC/2 fucking sucks. Even the AC/5 in 3025-tech is barely usable
What system would you use for a Fire Emblem/Game of Thrones inspired fantasy mecha game? I want the tone to be like Battletech where the mecha are handed down family lineages and act almost as badges of nobility. I don't know how to explain bandits yet, but I'll figure it out.
>>98350349There used to be some website back in the early '00s that had one loosely based on 40k rules, but I forget what it was called.
>>98356830On that note, is there a Five Star Stories RPG? Seems like a setting that lends itself well to one.
>>98356830Wares Blade
>>98357092The art is nice, but how is it as a system? Someone in a previous thread said it was very janky.
>>98356153ACs are supposed to suck, at least back then. Original BT there was only one kind of AC, which would become the AC/5. The other ACs came along in later editions.
>>98346561>TQWhile I did not enjoy a good chunk of Yamato 2202, I thought the redesigns and new inclusions for the Gatlantis Empire were pretty nice>>98350349>>98352073If you want ultra simple I recommend MS Era. You just need d6s and chopsticks (instead of a tape measure) http://www.ironhands.com/MSera.htmIf you want something still fast but less simple and more lethal check out MechaStellar. Currently roster includes Mobile Suit Gundam to Char's Counterattack, plus G, Wing, X, Turn A, and SEED. Also includes options for small units like Jets, Tanks, etc. There's a major gameplay update coming in August which will make the game faster. Also Gundam 00 is dropping either SEP or OCT.https://mechastellar.com/game-downloads/
>>98357506August will be the VER11 UpdateThis one is going to remove Rapid Fire from weapons, probably the last vestige of 40k rules we had.In it's place each weapon will have a battlefield role with a unique critical effect. Machine guns have high volume of fire, and can suppress enemies penalizing movement. Bazookas are siege weapons that will blow up cover and force more armor saves. Sniper weapons are extra effective against units without Cover. Also Warships are becoming easier to use, and are a lot more worthwhile on the battlefield than before.
