>>98349690>the fuck is magic even now?
>>98349658Pretty sure if you want artist signed cards you go to a convention and get them to sign it yourself.Certainly saw enough people bugging Brian Snoddy when I was helping mutual friends at a convention once.
>>98350047usually artist signed cards are considered damaged plus there's concern about authenticity. these are signed cards that are verified by wizards and they're tournament legal.
>>98350095MtG is a bit unique in this aspect - signed cards (regardless of who signed them) are worth less.
>>98349690Just some shit they can cram any remotely popular IP into in the hopes of catching a couple of sales from that IP's established fanbase who'll buy any old shit with the logo onCardboard Funko Pops, basically
>>98349690Its fortnite we are fortnite
They should make a battle rotale mtg game where you collect cards and duel at the end
>>98349658Makes perfect sense busines-wise:>getting autographs is pretty common in fandom especially in Trek>it's the first set where this is really possible>trek superfans now want these autographs to complete their collection>this creates buzz in said fandom>WotC doesn't want negative publicity associated with artist (Invoke Prejudice)>anything bad Shatner does is "a trek thing totally divorced from MtG"
>>98349690it's boldly going where fortnite has gone before
>>98349690Cardboard funko-pops for even bigger losers.
>>98349658>>still no official artist signed cardsWhat's the point? The artists already have been doing that at conventions to make money. How does having a signed card in a pack matter compared to one that's signed outside of it?
>>98351042Just make an alternate art card with artist signature box and serialized numbers.Surprised they haven’t done that yet.
>>98351323I got you, they probably will later on. Older artists will probably protest and be kicked out. Most of the new art is ass anyway. This is how peak MtG art used to look.
>>98351574Fumiko is the funnest card in the game.
>>98349658Janeway is tougher than Kirk? What is this shit?
>>98351912She's got a wider ass. More defense that way.
>>98349658>Janeway>not blueare you fucking shitting me goddammit MaRo you sack of fuck
>>98349658Why is janeway green? Think she even said she didnt have a good green thumb once. Also, I would have made kirk red-white
>>98352056None of the captains fit a color. Really, none of the captains have a concrete identity or traits that remain consistent throughout their respective series. They are whatever the writer needs them to be for any particular story, and will flip between honorable and dishonorable, law-abiding and law-breaking, stoic and horny, really whatever the story needed from them. They would often pontificate as if whatever they did happened to be the correct action in whatever situation they were in, but they held no true convictions, often contradicting some previous speech they made or forgetting some important aspect of who they once were. It all comes down to a team of poorly-communicating writers that were basically a pit of monkeys who took the shows far less seriously than many of its fans did. A beautiful parallel with MtG, where the current makers seem to not understand the game quite all that well and often seem to want to just push some pet idea forward.
>>98352129I would disagree with that. There are general tendencies for most captains. Kirk balances human intuition and captainly responsibility. He will do a gut feeling plan, but also respects rules and regulations as a baseline assumption. Balancing the extremes of Bones and Spock. Hes got some fire but He is not a complete loose cannon.Janeways is a militant idealist not usually willing to bend starfleet ideals even when practical concerns come to mind.
>>98349690Magic is trying to be Pokemon, where people buy a shitton of sealed products in a chase to get super fancy gimmick cards. Trading cards are becoming trading cards to keep in a binder again, a commodity to trade and sell. Explicitly not playing cards in a game, shuffle a deck that has one of those $600 charizards in it and people are going to lose their minds. The problem for wizards is for 30 years magic, by design, has not had the infrastructure in place to build their own all star cast of characters that would make a large amount of people go apeshit trying to pull a fancy version of. So you gotta go elsewhere and get popular IPs that have already done the legwork for you. Almost nobody is going to spend $500 on booster boxes to get a foil Jace. Meanwhile, history has shown that people will absolutely spend $500 on boxes trying to get a fuckin colored Chocobo.
>>98349690It's a card game based on wizards that collect shit from their travels across different universes.
>>98352275Magic the Gathering has had since 1993 to make a character as cool as Charizard and has never come close.
>>98350332Fortnite doesn't incorporate characters traits and abilities into the game, they're just skins.
>>98352400Yeah it's a two part problemPart one is the plane hopping every block after dominaria's story means it's hard to really build up notable characters that people care about beyond the text. They have succeeded in making characters people care about a few times but obviously nothing near to the extent of pokemon. Part two is Wizards couldn't do that shit if they tried (and they did lol). Again, nobody would be lining up to buy boxes for a Chandra. Mtg players might buy a box or two to hunt for a fancy avacyn. But so many more people would buy more and dig deeper into their pockets for pop culture IPs. The majority of the marvel secret lair sold out in a few minutes, leaving only black panther and captain america to be slowly picked at over the next few hours.
>>98352400It also could've made a toy commercial show like Pokemon or YGO so it could entrench its characters and monsters and lore into the hearts of younger generations, but it didn't. So it can't really tug the nostalgia and fanbase of casuals like the other games can, because those people would already be in the pre-existing playerbase, so it has to rely on other franchises and fanbases to pull new people in.The important note here is that Pokemon and YGO didn't start as card games. One was a video game, and one was already a manga so it already had a fanbase and stories and characters ready for an anime. But D&D had a cartoon, and 40k has tons of lore and comics and books for people who never touched the minis, but might after getting hooked. MtG coined "Verthos" or whatever for lore focused fans, and yet it has the fewest.
Charizard signed card.
>>98350327>established fanbase who'll buy any old shit with the logo onHate to say this but mtg is some of the better slop a lot of these fanbases have gotten in a while, especially ones with dead card games that ain't coming back like AtLA
>>98352485As a huge Marvelfag that spent years trying to get my friends to play VSsystem back in the day, it's been a godsend actually being able to use my favorite heroes in a game other people will actually play.
>>98349658>still no official artist signed cardslook at that art. who would WANT people to know you drew that
>>98352165>Janeway>not bending Starfleet idealsTuvix would like a word- oh, wait...
>>98349690
>>98349658I literally have a binder full of gold signature cards from mtg artists.
>>98349690The best trading card game in the WORLD
>>98352275>shuffle a deck that has one of those $600 charizards in it and people are going to lose their minds.Pokemon doesn't have this issue because for every new $600 Charizard that gets printed there are a billion 2$ low rarity versions of the same card you can play with. The deck that won worlds last year cost a total of 50$!Out of all the card games Magic is actually the one with this issue.
>>98352165>Janeways is a militant idealist not usually willing to bend starfleet ideals even when practical concerns come to mind.Did you watch Voyager at all? Janeway is a few coffee sacrifices away from become a Daemon Prince of Khorne.
>>98349658>Autograph cardsGenuinely a good idea business wise.>>98351042I always love the aesthetics of tarot cards. It is a shame textless cards mostly a novelty.
>>98349690Its whatever the player base will tolerate. Turns out a bunch of middle aged paypiggies are easy marks.
>>98352459>It also could've made a toy commercial show like Pokemon or YGO so it could entrench its characters and monsters and lore into the hearts of younger generations, but it didnDespite being owned by Hasbro. Who had a whole ass TV channel.
>>98352459Thats because the people who run and design magic couldnt give two shits about their own lore, so the Vorthos player is, remains, and always will be hypothetical
>>98352730this stuff is gold stamped.op means cards that are signed and then placed into packs.i can see a premium market for it.
>>98349690There's no Magic anymore. There's only EDH.
>>98352430The thing is, the good guy planeswalkers are ass, bland goody two shoes nobody gives a shit about.Look at the most memorable characters, all of them major assholes who actually get shit done.People would absolutely line up to spend 500 dollars for a chance to get a blinged out Bolas, Tezzeret, or Urza card.
>>98352403Not yet.
>>98349658Something about those designs feel off. I think the art looks too realistic that it looks like they just added their photos to a generic background.I need a second opinion
>>98353108meme opinion. Ofc episode depending, but she way more often sacrifices methods of returning to home faster because it would be unstarfleet, or putting her ship in danger because it would be unstarfleet to let something slide.
>>98349782>can you autograph my black face aragorn card sir?
>>98349658>JANEWAY>THESE ENSINS SAY THEY HEARD OF ME, I AIN'T HEARD OF YOU>GET THE FUCK UP OFF MY FACE BEFORE I ACCIDENTALLY TRANSPORT YOU
>>98352129You are a fucking retreatedPicard is u/w and it's extremely obvious
>>98354737
>>98353443>soulless bad ugly art>freaking spiderman>a fucking newspaper>selfieCould it be the worst card art ever? Even Stasis has some merit to it's badness.
>>98353359Completely forgot about that, they have even less excuses lolIdeally it would've come out in the late 90s or early 00s when every card game got its own show. That era of mtg probably wasn't family friendly enough but fuck it, neither was yugioh by american standards
>>98355070It can't be, like you said it's got freaking Spider-Man on it.
>>98355070It could be worse
>>98355070the worst card art is that godawful faithless looting that looks like it was scribbled over in mspaintwhich, in fairness, is a godawful MTG CARD ART in part because the actual art piece is like 4 feet tall and the artist's style loses all the detail when shrunk down to card size. It ALSO looks godawful because the artist used large blocks of flat color that look godawful when it's viewed at full size, too.Whatever art director said "yeah this artist in particular should do this card in particular", OK'd it knowing her art looks shit shrunk down, for a card of such iconic status, and then OK'd the resulting shitty piece they received, and the overall set director who put that in the "this is a super duper rare chase slot" Strixhaven Mystical Archive list, those people should be shot.
