I like the Japanese take on Western aesthetics, it's better than most Western art these days.
It's like they actually remember that characters should be attractive.
>>
>>98363075
Traditional games?
>>
>>98363075
I agree, every time I find art I enjoy it’s either from;
>Someone in South America
>Slavic
>Asian
It’s been such a consistent thing that I’ve given up on “Western” art entirely.
>>
>>98363083
Feel like a quarter of /tg/ is bitching about art because you can look at pictures without ever having to play or run games.
I actually agree with OP but for other reasons than pure coombrainery. There is always something fascinating about an outsiders idealialized perspective on something foreign.
>>
>>98363075
Welcome to something most sane people realized a decade ago.
>>
>>98363110
“It looks attractive” doesn’t necessarily mean he only likes it because the boobs are big. He might not even know what he means himself. What OP probably means is that Japanese art aping Western aesthetics has a sincerity to it that can be felt. There’s an emotion behind it that the viewer can share in.

There *is* a lot of trash in Japanese art, I’m not going to be gentle. Everyone has likely seen the utter tripe that comes out of Isekai or Shounen. There are a lot of faux-western designs that are absolute ass, from the “breastplate and green shirt” of disposable mooks to the generi-knights often led by a woman who exists to get raped, I’ve eaten my fill of slop with my friends on weekly anime nights.

But the highs are *high* and, pound for pound, the average Japanese media will have a better aesthetic than the average Western equivalent. There’s no secret why the vast majority of young people prefer Asian media these days, or hold it as a peer to local work.

Kinda like you always see black aragorn or gay beholder always resposted

i assume your picture is unrelated?

while the images aren't bad examples I really wish the anons spamming those over and over would get some new material already

Can't really disagree much, but I also think the lows are real lows (as you said, trashy and absolutely derivate isekai slop).
>>
>>98363075
>It's like they actually remember that characters should be attractive.
It's sad we're at this point, because remembering to put attractive characters in fantasy is tantamount to remembering to breathe; it should be automatic.
>>
>>98363086
That’s because the west was overtaken by people that quite literally hate beauty. They seek to make everything either generic or ugly.
>>
>>98363110
“Beauty” doesn’t mean for coomers retard. One of the core cultural pillars of the Roman and Greek derived civilizations was the appreciation of beauty which led to a better society. After all if a society is beautiful and people wonderful, would you not strive to better it?
>>
>>98363272
Is she not attractive? I'd take her over a fat tranny any day
>>
>>98363272
>half naked woman in oriental sex slave garb
If I was going by just your description I would think he posted some frank frasetta art.
>>
>>98363633
>Roman and Greek
>not coomer
What is your definition of coomer?

One of the main reasons why Japanese art is so attractive and endearing is because they don't deny the inherent sexuality present in any form of creation. While in the west you have way too many people crying about coomerism and other types of religious puritanism dogwhistles.
>>
>>98363075
>characters should be attractive.
Gay. Characters should be compelling, not merely physically attractive. Your tastes in games are pedestrian and superficial.

A solid 70% of my characters are mentally and/or physically fucked up.
>>
>>98363086
Western education is a scam and they tell artists to get art degrees instead of biology/engineering/architecture degrees. Then they go on to make calarts pornslop and panhandle on bluesky for a living because no one is going to hire some retard cartoonist to do concept art for serious projects except through the DEI pipeline. There just is no 'western art' anymore, it was obliterated in a single generation by the education system.
>>
>>98364096
>instead of biology/engineering/architecture degrees
Loser mentality like yours was also what ruined art in the west.
>>
>>98364129
Faggot mentality like yours is why everyone has rocket diarrhea.
>>
>>98364160
If you don't like art and are just a wagecuck bootlicker of stem slop, don't give your worthless opinion on an art thread. Go and suck your techgod on Facebook like the good little cuck you're.
>>
>>98363075
Characters being attractive should be legally banned to spite people like you.

Otherwise no opinion.
>>
>>98364096
>>98364129
The fundamental problem you both are missing is the fact that every modern cartoonist has a bad case of peter pan syndrome that has become largely unaddressed pandemic.
Instead of creating actual art, because that carries a non-negligible amount of responsibility towards the well-being of your culture, these people are doing the equivalent of blowing raspberries for money.
>>
>>98363218
Those are shitposts from/for the culture warriors, and culture warriors do not engage with traditional games, almost by design.
>>
>>98363653
Both are stupid and pandery

There's a lot of cool fantasy art from Japan that can contend with the best from the west, especially from old RPG covers. Did you know Wizardry got its own TTRPG in Japan?
Maybe post that next time instead of slop.

The reason fantasy/sci-fi art use to be good in the west and is still good in the east is because they have degrees functionally relevant to the kind of art they make.
>>
>>98363075
Westerners do samurai better.
I think , woke stuff aside, an outside eye lets you appreciate the details more
>>
>>98363179
Sincerity is the point here.
The japs can take things that are cliched to westerners series because they are less marinated in it
Also they haven’t been culturally poisoned against genuine heroism

I'm really not certain that's true...
>>
>>98364096
Art programs have been getting slashed in the US since the 80's, and those who do it always viewed art as gay and faggy and a waste of time, so a lot of people either have no skills or have to learn shit on their own time. Other countries like France and Japan have more respect for art and more people who teach it seriously.
>>
>>98365087
>Also they haven’t been culturally poisoned against genuine heroism
Haha
>>
I wonder if coomers will ever realize they just come off as annoying and visually disruptive like furfags do. Normal people will always be able to instantly pick out their tacky tastes the same way animal/animal humanoid art is always noticeably offputting when drawn by/for furries vs normal art yet they always, always try to play dumb and insist it's perfectly normal even though anyone with eyes can see it.
>>
Some ugliness makes things interesting. Everyone being hot and everything being pretty can get extremely boring and bland.
>>
>>98365082
>Westerners do samurai better.
nah.
>>
>>98365082
>Westerners do samurai better.
Name an example.
>>
>>98365412
It is. The most sought after artists can not just draw a robot or a weird fantasy creature, they can draw ones that seem as if they would be completely functional if they were real. Art is not something you study, it is something you make and without key knowledge of how your subject matter works you aren't going to make very good art depicting it. We're not talking about taping bananas to walls here mind you, this is fantasy/sci-fi art that very much judged in quality by how well it communicates a concept and tells a story.
>>
>>98365281
The movie was shit, it was about a stronk female lesbian who refused to get married and caused a war.
>>
>>98365583
You say that but back in the day “ugly” characters had a certain aesthetic that seperated them from modern ugly characters. The weren’t designed to disgusting or repulsive but rather just not beautiful. Elderly characters and violent brutes come to mind.
>>
>>98365583
I like everyone being hot, because it's a reminder that these people are better than you.
>>
>>98364853
Art was and is to a large degree a blue collar job performed by poor and working class people. Apply your advice to yourself and spent more time around real people instead of imaginary perceptions of reality you see in twitter and reddit.
>>
>>98366063
Although to be honest Japan has just went to shit for the most part, everything they were good at has been ruined because greedy corporations refused to pay normal salaries and talented people have left industries like anime, games, music and movies. All that is left in Japan is manga and classical art.

Funny how the "if everyone is special, nobody is" mindset somehow doesn't apply to that.
>>
>>98370653
because it's not about being special? it's about being pleasing to look at

if you want a story about one character being prettier than everyone else then you need other characters to be ugly, but most stories have no such theme
>>

>If everyone is special, nobody is
Bro's quoting a Pixar villain like it's high philosophy.

Many ttrpgs are helped enormously by their artwork. Especially WoD games with their beautiful books. Changeling wouldn't have been anywhere near as fun without the beautiful shiny green book and all the wonderful artwork it contained. Each book gave you the aesthetic and feel through artwork.

Then we come to modern slop rpgs. 5e artwork looks fucking terrible and is drawn by hacks. Pathfinder is even worse. They tick every box of course. Disabled, old, different skin tones etc. The soul of many ttrpgs has been in the artwork. When that is taken away something is lost with it.

Eastern anime shit isn't the solution. Make your own games. Don't let the alphabet mafia tell you what to do. Don't use AI slop hire real artists. The cunts and the feminazis only have as much power as you give them.
>>
>>98371713
Yoy said that as if the artist aren't the worst of the degens, and then, even if they aren't, they tend to have a fucked up work ethic, wich tends to be inexistend, and even when that isn't and price isn't ridiculous, they tend to be slow as hell. Ai slop can be cancer I grant you, but for my own uses its more than enough.

This is part of why the AI art revolution is a good thing.
Traditionally art has been a dog eat dog world where only the ones who really move people can make money off of it.
Well that and the ones with connections.
AI slop satisfying the people who just want a quick thing without emotional impact weans out the ones who don't have anything to say through their art.
