What does /tg/ think of Storypath games? I looked at Scion 2e and the trinity continuum games before and while I don't hate the settings I'm not too sure on them pushing even further into narrativism
>>
>>98379045
I think the push toward it being more narrative fits the theme of Scion well. The combat system took a few rereads to get my head around though since actually dealing damage is a stunt and not a thing by default.

I'm not sure if I'm just getting more smooth brained in my old age or what, but Scion2e seems really complicated to me. I've also read elsewhere that it's considered kind of a hot mess - one example that stuck with me is that Lethal damage references damage conditions but like four of them aren't detail in the book and you're just supposed to make them up.
>>
>>98379045
As games they are off topic on tg
>>
>>98379045
I think it's fine but kind of a mess in a lot of places. Fortunately Storypath Ultra fixed most of my problems and Scion 3e is gonna be in that.

>>98381007
It's overly complicated in some places. Health suffers from some fairly terrible editing where you have bashing, lethal, and aggravated damage still but they don't actually do anything beyond the weapon tags and health conditions are a total free for all. All the stuff about some damage types causing some specific conditions is purely an artefact of an older version of the rules that didn't get edited out. The only difference is whether or not the condition is persistent or not.
>>
>>98381007
Doesn't it lack a st chapter because "you are supposed to read mythology"?
>>
>>98381402
All 4 core books have an ST chapter, as do all the sourcebooks as far as I know
>>
>>98381393
Didn't they get rid of willpower and replaced it with a group wide metacurrency instead?
>>
>>98381402
I haven't read through all four books but >>98381460 is correct for at least Origin and Hero, and I've no reason to doubt he's wrong about Demigod and God.

>>98381594
I think Momentum takes over a lot of what Willpower did in 1e and WoD games.
>>
>>98381594
From 1e to 2e yeah. Momentum, the group metacurrency, largely takes the role of Willpower. It's not entirely the same idea but it's the thing you use to boost the chances in your dice pool.

Storypath is a whole other system removed from Scion 1e though so it's very different in a lot of ways. Scion 1e's system was based on oWoD's Storyteller System. Storypath shares lineage with that but it's not directly derived from it, it's derived from the Storytelling (-ing, not -er) Sytstem of CofD which is itself derived from oWoDs rulesets. As it happens CofD does also use Willpower but there is a big chunk of design in-between Scion's first and second editions that have impacted it and its system. 3e will be in Storypath Ultra which is basically a second edition of Storypath and that retains Momentum although it works a little differently. SPU isn't as drastic a shift as going from oWoD to CofD to Storypath was but it's a bigger change than between any edition of oWoD/CofD.

So what problems does Storypath Ultra fix compared to the base system? I remember scale being poorly, poorly explained
>>
>>98381627
It got rid of things like X-Again because they have trivial impact and now there is just Double-10 and Double-9. Health is more streamlined now. You've got the same injury thresholds but instead of the nebulous on-the-fly conditions that you have to invent and then manage, it's just flat effects. Status Effects cover all the more interesting effects as a separate mechanic. Speaking of Conditions and Field Effects are now called Status and Area Effects and are much more codified here. The book just includes all the ones the game uses as a list which makes using any of them more simple. Enhancements/Complications don't have the same sorts of stacking problems they do in 1e, and Difficulty now caps at 5 so you don't end up with things spinning out of control. Movement is still range bands but maps to grids better if you want more standardised movement. Scale has been changed to Advantage that works mostly the same way as Dramatic Scale does but it's a lot more clear and accounts for different rolls better. Paths have a little more going on where each gives you stats and skills, but one of them can be Major and you'll get more from it and maybe a special ability depending on the game. Momentum is a little more interesting, Tricks (stunts) are better integrated, the Influence and Investigation stuff works betters, and there are little bits of language that have been cleaned up too like when you roll 8+ on a die that's no longer a "success" but a "hit".

It's got its problems, I think PCs start with too many dots, Injuries (as in damage thresholds not status effects/conditions) now grant bonuses rather than penalties which sort works for the tone but I don't really like it, attacks all deal 1 by default which can make combat feel a little stale even if it does make extra damage more impactful, then it's a few annoying bits where the rules and the narratives don't line up well. Even with those things it's still an improvement.

Scion 3e info
>The system is being built up on Storypath Ultra
>The following Pantheons have been confirmed for the core: Aesir, Bogovi, Deva, Kami, Loa, Netjer, Shen, Teotl, Theoi, Tuatha
>The book will have a conversion guide and an appendix that has every Patron from 2e's Callings and Purviews for a quick translation
>The hope is that with future releases all the Pantheons that were possible get included in 3e, so them not being in the core is a "Hopefully later" rather than a cut
>Will contain the rules for Origin and Hero level play in one book
>The Hero book will focus on JUST Scions, including God Scions, Titan Scions, and Primordial Scions. Non-Scion play options will (hopefully) get their own dedicated books later.
>There are no Pantheon Purviews, but there are Pantheon/Society Knacks
>Your Paths will level up and improvements will come that way
>Many things are in flux, and there may be some shuffling of Callings and Purviews, but hopefully not too much
>The Signatures characters will be:
>Damien De La Cruz, Scion of Mictlantecutli
>Helena "Thorns" Graves!, Scion of Veles
>Mazen Kalil, Scion of Djehuty
>Thyra Odinsdottir, Scion of Odin
> ̶U̶n̶lucky Mercenary, Titanic Scion of Bai Mei
>Eric at least has been noted as having unspecified Reasons™ for why he is not one of the signature characters. Giantsbane has been confirmed as having a write-up
>Despite 'Calling' being one of the paths now, don't worry, PCs will still have three Callings. Details on this haven't been fully revealed.

wonder if the some day get the license to be able to make exalted 4e with it
>>
>>98381837
I'm playing Princess the Hopeful at the moment, and these all sound pretty nice. I wonder if someone will make another edition of the game using Ultra.
>>

>SPU isn't as drastic a shift as going from oWoD to CofD to Storypath was but it's a bigger change than between any edition of oWoD/CofD.
How? NWoD changed a lot between 1e and 2e.
>>
>>98381844
>Bogovi
Who are those?
>>
>>98383432
It changed less as a core system level than you'd think. 2e games are very different because all the rules for the splats were redone with different design intent. The core rules of the system didn't change nearly that much. Conditions and Tilts were added, XP was flattened and Beats were added, weapon damage uses the alt Armory rules, investigation is new, Morality changed somewhat, but otherwise it's all pretty compatible with 1e. It's possible that Scion 3e will be more similar to Scion 2e than, say, VtR 2e is to VtR 1e, but SPU has changed more of Storypath at the base level than the Storytelling System did for its editions.

The gods of Slavic paganism. They're in 2e in the Demigod book if you want to give them a read.
