Couple of KDM WIPs
asking again in new thread before i do something sillyso, i want to make fences like pic rel from scratch, i need a method to do them that is easy, repeatable and consistent, the hardest part is the lance points, any ideas?no casting, no buying a thousand secondhand lances
>>98382554
>>98382555From a quick google, I found out you can buy scale spears made out of wire, I think these would make a good source for the bars. For the cross beam bits, you could get some strips of plasticard and drill holes at even intervals, though this might be a pain in the ass.
>>98382576How are they measuring spear length in milliliters?
>>98382576>20>$15that's quite expensive and they look meh, they also make plastic ones but still ithey are fairly expensive, at that price it would be better to buy actual fencesi have seen lance shaped cocktail sticks too but can't source them in the ue for a reasonable price
an aggressor
>>98382591Keep in mind that price is in AUDThere are other companies manufacturing these, army painter makes 50mm 40 packs for cheaper than that other one.
>>98382576>>98382591you could probably make something similar from scratch by hammering/flattening the end of some stiff metal wire and cutting the flatted tip into shape
>>98382607yeah warlord makes them too>https://eu.warlordgames.com/products/50mm-metal-spears-50it's not a bad idea but i'm not sold on it (yet), those would also be easy to make cheaper at home but i don't quite like the look (and they are fucking dangerous)
>>98382617>and they are fucking dangerousthe pictures do make them look particularly poky
>>98382623
>>98382617the 40mm spears are less than half the price of the 50mm ones for some reason https://us.warlordgames.com/products/40mm-metal-javelins-50
>>98382629Imagine running into an opponent using these for their intended purpose. Their lines of spearmen looking like walls of knives.
just paimpt miniturs
>>98382495Almost done with a generic sword brother/officer/whatever kitbash. Left arm is magnetized as I plan to also build him a banner-holding arm to convert him into some sort of chapter or crusader ancient if ever needed.>>98382604Did your primer or some other basecoat go on a bit thicker than usual? It looks like some details are gunked up, they normally look okay on your models
>>98382646nice minis manit is a little funny seeing 40k skulls on fantasy minis though lol
>>98382555sculpt each one individually out of putty
>>98382678I built these on a whim, kind of like little helpers or summons for the big guys. Also usable as generic fantasy characters with the skull representing their role.>crowfast assassin guy>don't even knowone handed weapon + shield>daemonmagick user>orktwo handed weapon brute>taushooty guy
>>98382683that is not consistent at all, and it's a lot of work
Painting traitors. About ready for washes.>>98382555I assume there are pre-made fences for rail models. If you want individual spears, look for packs of Cocktail Spears.
>>98382646what bodies are those?
Are there any benefits to using a synthetic over sable? Like certain scenarios. Or another kind of brush other than sable for doing things?
>>98382732Frostgrave soldiers
>>98382825Yes, by using synthetics you're not wearing out your sables. So use synthetics as workhorses and save your sables for detail work.
>>98382825The benefit is that they're cheaper, and you don't care about destroying them. You can use them for metallics, texture pastes, glue, or anything, and you won't feel bad about destroying your nice brushes.
>>98382825they are cheap so you can abuse them, stippling drybrushing, varnish, glue...
>>98382827Ah, they were familiar. Nice job.
Question for the class. What's the best size bead/ball to use for nipples at the 28/32mm scale? I'm sick of try to sculpt them.
>>98382902i would sculpt one and make a stamp mold
Does anyone have any book like pic related from ionic? Are they any good? I've seen it mentioned online
>>98382902go to you local craft/bead store with your model and do some test fitting on location
>>98382495Thanks for setting up us a new thread. It was late and I was tired.Might have tacos again for dinner. It is Tuesday, after all!
>>98382958You can find that and much more on youtube nowadays. Seeing a technique in action is more useful imo.
>>98382958I have a book like that, but it's not about tanks and it's not published by Ionic.WVVoU01HTklUVFpNZVRsMFdsZGthRXh0TlRaTU1scDJZa2RTYkdOcE9IcGxiV2hUWVRGR1RGZHBUbTVPYlRWUlRqSlNibFpJWkhOU01FcGFVa2MxY1ZaNlFtWlJNa1p1

>>98383020what red is that?
Today I continued the sculpting process. The shields are not glued yet, I just used blue tac to get an impression on how it would look like as armour. I worry it's a bit too thick, but that maybe because I spend so much time looking at these from a close distance.Does green stuff cure faster in cold than in room temperature?
>>98383044evil sunz scarlet i think its the new blood red
>>98383063>Does green stuff cure faster in cold than in room temperature?Slower, actually.
>>98383063are they the stands or the users?
>>98383124I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly. But my intention was to make these shields look like armour plates bolted on their buttocks.
>>98382726>>98383041Gigabased
How do I stop this from happening?
>>98383041Indeed.
>>98383173Brush care will help but It is inevitable that your synthetics will end up curling like this. Best you can do is either buy a new one if it gets too bad, or become a master of the hook.
>>98383193happens to my sables too tho
>>98383199stop stabbing your brush into the minis then
Done with the grassy board. What should I do next?
>>98383199You've had them generically tested?Just because the label says they are, doesn't make it so. Consider that they're mostly made in china and contemplate manufacturing practices of that nation.

>>98383124>>98383146>I'm not sure if I understood your question correctly. This must be the work of an enemy Stand!

Interesting new developments over at my place! So here's the deal:>bought and build a bunch of cool stuff lately>protagonists of this post: the Tamiya Sturmtiger and a bootleg Zaku 2>the bootleg Zaku came with water decals, but those are kinda low quality and refuse to stick to anything that is not a straight surface>virtually unusable on the Zaku 2>decide to use them on the Sturmtiger instead as tank camouflageBe honest and tell me how it looks! I am not planning to win any tournaments, but would you say it is an upgrade to the "clean" look it has by default and do you recognize it as camouflage. Does it look too "sticker-y"?Here is the before

>>98382256>How'd you make the nipples, anon? Did you sculpt them, or did you push a tiny bead in there and shape around it?It's a tiny bead pressed in to the milliput. When the milliput dries I add a bit of glue around it.

>>98383262And I wonder how willing Rosemary & co are to provide a competitor with their higher quality product, eh?that being said NONE of the brush manufacturers are transparent about their processes and none have ever said they genetically test their chinese sable, so it's very likely you've got other weasel species and even synthetics mixed in and these companies just figure "meh, good enough" because their names make them sales and no one else is doing any different so the quality is relative.you might get better results buying the most expensive brushes available, but trace the corporate relationships and do so from the ones actually making the brushes, don't go for the tertiary entities like artis opus who are just paying to have their name stamped on the birch.
>>98383358yes, whereas one click here ITT could change that. which shows you are lazy.I didn't even have it handed to me like you just did, I literally just got "nintendo" and then spent 15 minutes figuring it out online from that hint accompanied by the fact that I was trying to decode a string.

I'd say they're too large for human-sized nipples but they work on monsters.
>>98383510>Ive never seen a code used like this. Many boards here on 4chan are encoding things like URLs to keep them from being harvested and/or reported. Is it one person? A group of people? A bot or automated script? Nobody knows for sure is behind it, but starting about three years ago, naked URLs started getting flagged for takedowns and removals. Posting content to platforms like gofile.io, where a link only stays active for about a week-and-a-half, or setting up torrents with magnets are only so effective for the wider community.

>>98383652Unlike you, I don't live in my childhood. "Nintendo" doesn't make me think of "64".
>>98382825Use them as workhorse brushes for basecoats, when they get frayed they become a wash/stipple/drybrush brush, get even more gnarly they become a basing/glue brush. For things like base coating a size 2 or 4 $3 white taklon brush will last for a few dozen models at least before the tip starts to curl too much, the smaller brushes is where the curling tip is more noticeable and problematic.
>>98383488It works if you're looking for near identical breasts on models that are fairly similar poses. >>98385010Blending should be smoother. The (off)white paint should be applied thinner and smoother, and lacks highlights, so does the sights. The highlights on the rifle are sloppy. You can definitely make them neater. The bronze of the statue could use a bit more contrast and wear and tear. The rifle, too, a bit of weathering is always good. Also, a little bit of autism (feel free to ignore), but all metal can makes no sense. Not only it would reflect light, it would also corrode.
>>98385010try using different tools like enamel paints or an airbrush. look at other disciplines like garage kits or gundams and see if you can learn anything new.
Has anybody ever used "Disposable eyeliner brushes" for making very thin lines on 28mm minis? How are they and how do I maximize mileage out of them?>https://www.amazon.ca/Disposable-eyeliner-Eyeliner-Brushes-Applicator/dp/B096K1MFL7?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A1X0N246DB265CI've heard of scriptliner and liner and rigger brushes but could never find any in bulk sales of the same sizes on aliexpress or temu somehow.I'm trying to get brushes that will easily create comically thin lines for 28mm scale miniature detailing for freehanded stuff. Is there anything I can do to "force" my current bulk round tipped brushes to have comically pointy tips if a deal can't be found?
>>98383448leave the base like that and put a brush in his hand
>>98385047Thanks anon, I have actually recently experimented with mixing a small amount of white ink in with white paint and it's made it so much smoother, definitely something I'll experiment with.Do you have any good tutorials etc on weathering? That's probably a good thing for me to look at.And yeah, the can is impractical, but aesthetically pleasing to me. Appreciate the advice!>>98385089Thanks anon, I do have an airbrush but I just use it for priming, base coat, and varnishing. Currently I typically do 3 passes of the base coat, going from darker to lighter from bottom to top of the mini. Are there any particular airbrushing techniques worth learning?
How does one apply a wash to a model without making the base coat look blotchy and brown? is there a way to change the surface tension so everything gets pulled into the recesses, leaving the surface basically clean?
>>98385202You have to premoisten the figure with just water, wait until almost dry where it feels cool to the touch but no water can be seen. Embs calls this water priming. After this apply the wash with a moist brush, no heavy drops of water, and it will suck the paint into recess as ot continues to dry but you still must painr into the recess and rotate the model using gravity to your advantage as it dries. Working on small sections at a time but water priming over an arwa larger than you will need to encourage gentle bleeding and sift edges to prevent splotches and using the brush to break up any hard wdges that begin to form before it dries adding watwr to the brush as needed to fade the edges.
>>98385201>white inkI've never tried it with white, but it works well for yellow. The trouble is that there's no binder or medium so it comes off easily. You can either mix it with a medium (or paint like you're doing), or just airbrush straight ink and then varnish it right away.
>>98385202instead of slopping it on everywhere try only putting it where you want it and not where you don't. you can also stop using acrylic washes so you can easily wipe it off if it gets where you don't want it.
My birf day present, my precious.
I dropped my DIY miniature painting handle. The model wasn't damaged but now I want rubber grip tape to add to my painting handle for miniature painting. What textured pattern is best for comfort and grip? I remembered how some vidya game controllers sell rubber paddings for better grip so I'm not sure if those textures are the best. My searching also resulted in gun grip rubber tape and gaffer's tape for my painting handles. I'm not sure what "rubber pattern" is best but I'm hoping someone here has already tried.>>98385201>>98385259Does it really matter what white ink is being used here? I lean for Daler Rowney as their inks seem to have more coverage and their jars are shaped to be harder to accidentally knock over I think.I learn to Liquitex for wash making as they have less coverage. I'm not sure if Daler Rowney or Liquitex inks are better or worse for using as easy glazes.
>>98385335Very nice anon! When you paint a model can you get back to us on the quality of the Coat D'arms paints? I've had an interest in those for a while. Their metallics primarily but also the inks which I haven't found artist acrylic ink equivalents to yet.
>>98385352NTA, but I have been using the CDA range for a few years now in my collection. The paint quality ranges from decent, if needing 2-3 coats(like vampire red and deadly nightshade) to good coverage in 1-2 coats(the greens, most blues, and browns I have). As for the metallics those are great, solid coverage and pigmentation, absolutely love these.
>>98385412>As for the metallics those are great, solid coverage and pigmentation, absolutely love these. Thanks anon!>30+ year old metallic paints recipe still holding up to modern standardsI'm amazed really. I'll see if a Canadian vendor has some metals and inks to pick up.
Done some work on my tracked Impulsor. It's still very raw, but it's shaping up. There's a lot more plasticard scratchbuilding than expected, as the problem with the GW kit is that you basically get a quarter of a vehicle - no bottom half because it's supposed to be hovering, and no backside because it's an open top. The other challenge is keeping the interior available for painting while building everything. And finally, making sure all hatches (both on top and the ramp in the back) are freely poseable, so that the interior can be checked out once the vehicle is put together. It's pretty fun so far. Though I will definitely be printing the workable tracks, as the ones that you get with the kit are shit.
>>98384694 >>98384871So freaking awesome >>98385010Hmm, mire color variation on the figure, like changing the color temperature on the faces which face one side to add some red light or orange or punk or salmon etc, the white gun should have one side darker than the others with a different color temperature, just stuff like that, really good overall though
>>98385352 >>98385412I too already have plenty of coat darms paints, almost every color they offer, they are excellent but these are new orders since blackhat sold to essex but they said they weren't changing anything so I'm assuming they are like the others I've bought before. If not I'll let you know.
