Why are Drow women so smol?
Ontological evil weighs upon the body and stunts growth, as evidenced by halflings

>>98384968I used to have an image showing how drow/elves used to be human height in Forgotten Realms, with Drow women being listed as taller.I intended to add in how Qilue is 6-ft and her description states she looks like a typical drow matriarch.Retcons are a bitch though.
>>98391981>>98395476Pathfinder had drow males averaging at 6'0" and drow females averaging at 6'2". When I played in a drow-centric campaign the DM used these as the height ranges even though we weren't playing Pathfinder. (We might in the future sequel, however). Seemed easier for my drow aristocrat priestess to be a more serious villain if she could literally look down on humanity and other underraces.
Isn’t Drizzt considered an utter alpha male lookmaxxer gigachad for being almost 6 foot

>>98396212You think you do but you don’t
>>98385157That has nothing to do with Ed Greenwood and came from Paizo writers in Dragon Magazine at the height of their edgelord era shortly before they got fired for 4E and made Pathfinder.Greenwood is a pervert but he's NOT an edgelord and Drow women having orgasms from their babies killing and eating each other in the womb is not one of his many fetishes, especially since the article says it's the only reason drow have sex at all because pregnancy is a burden. A: greenwood is enormously sex positive and would think it's ridiculous drow wouldn't want to have sex all the time even if they were infertile, B: he's also a hippie who's into maternity and femininity as the ultimate beauty and would probably find guro abortion masturbation distasteful

>>98396386I remember Greenwood talking about how at one point he lived somewhere where he could go out on his porch for the evening and look out to the lake to let the mind wander, and once he made friends with them, his lesbian neighbors let him watch their skinny dipping fun time.Dude is a legend.
>>98396475>she’s into it as like a weird inversion of men who like the woman to be mean to them in bedBro, most women like men who are mean in bed. Also most men into humiliation/SPH/etc fetishes tend to be men who are dominant in other aspects of their life. Which should also explain to you why there's so much fucking money poured into those fetishes.
>>98396659yeah, he was basically raised by his hippie free love lesbian aunts because his dad was busy traveling for work as a glowie and wasn't home most of the time, which once you understand those two things suddenly makes shit like the Harpers suddenly make a lot more sense
>>98396129Pathfinder made all elves taller than humans and significantly taller than D&D elves. Drow just got dragged along. >>98392298The dwarves are an OK height, but they're far too narrow. >>98396163Lmao no, Drizzt is considered an uber chad at 5 foot 4.
>>98385453I still want to know how they were incompetent enough to let an in-house adventure path give us that bullshit where a Pathfinder elf who commits extremely evil deeds will turn into a drow.Who. The fuck. Thought. That was. A GOOD IDEA?!
>>98384968So there’s enough room for even more of them to subject you to death by snu-snu.
>>98388810I don’t really have a problem with Paizo removing horny from the main publications if it makes more people comfortable with playing. I’d also love it if they put the horny into a dedicated sourcebook so groups can add however much they want to their games.
>>98396740I vaguely recall in one of the Drizzt novels Drizzt gets heightmogged by a guy he eventually defeats (and I think he jacked the guy's sword, which tried to seduce Drizzt by changing the shape of its handle and pommel, but got rejected because its blade was straight and Drizzt craved crooked swords . . . I think he eventually gave it to Cattie Brie?) and that dude was considered gargantuan at like . . . I want to say 5'10"? But my recollection's so vague as to be as useless as one of those faggots who posts "traditional games?"
>>98396706In Ed's world magic is inherently feminine. Most magical deities are female. Men are control freaks at Mount Celestia. When they try to usurp magical power they inevitably fall due their hubris ala Karsus. Mystra #1 after Mystryl but before Midnight is basically Ed's waifu, that's why he rejects even the Time of Troubles at home table, let alone something like the Spellplague.
>>98397274Remember that his self insert, Elminster, got turned into a woman for a while and was surely railed by many lusty Katashakans every night.
>>98384968Weren't dark elves and dwarves closely related in Norse myth or something?
>>98396386So the article it came from wasn’t just the worst kind of edgy, it also contradicted previous lore and was declared non-canon? Thank fuck.As a matter of fact, I find this revelation downright comforting, because from now on whenever someone brings up chad’zak I can point to the article it came from as a piece of trash and a prime example for D&D writers of what not to do.
>>98396706…yeah, that explains everything.
>>98385166Hard to disagree with their perfectly crafted drow fetish lore. It's even harder to disagree with what they came up with next to take it even further... >>98396475More like an inversion of those guys who want to be househusband to a goth mommydommy OL gf. I'm sure there's all sorts of salacious smut books passed around drowning nobility that none will admit to having about being domesticated by some chad paladin surfacer. No longer having to scheme and live each day in paranoia, but still able to deliver death to any of her hubby's obstacles
>>98398028I feel like since drow have photonegative morality, their guilty pleasure smut would be, instead of some harlequin thing of an ingenue taming a wild man, it would be about bringing a civilized surface man into the dark side of drow values.
>>98398004>How did he do it right when there are examples of this being done badly? Drow are an inversion of everything we stand for as a society. They backstab as a matter of fact; they have no sense of modesty; they know no restraint on any behavior. They are depravity personified. We don't really want to live in their world, but the core idea of letting go of all the artificial restrictions of our society can still be intoxicating.Marry that idea to a society of scantily-clad exotic women, and it's got basically universal appeal. Non-gay men are obviously into it, but even women like the idea of not having to worry about what they wear and how they'll be judged for it, and owing their depravities without restriction. That part's not gendered; it's just human nature. TL;DR: Drow aren't any one person's fetish. They are the very idea of fetish. There's no way for any one man's magical realm to compete.
>>98396475based
>>98398004That implies that there is anything done right about that.
>>98395476Malice in the original Drizzt trilogy is about 5' tall and is never implied to be unusual short (in fact, she's generally described as quite imposing). There's a later book where some other drow do call her short, but that's likely to justify the later retcon on elf heights (whether elves are shorter or taller than humans has changed in multiple times in different editions). Drizzt and one of his sisters are supposed to be unusually tall for drow since their father was the drow equivalent of a gigachad. There's one drow matron in the Drizzt trilogy who is explicitly described as short by drow standards, and she's 4' tall. By human standards that's not just short, that's full-on legal loli territory.
>>98384968Because they live in underground caves and being smaller makes them better at navigating said caves.Their progenitor goddess did this deliberately.I haven't interacted with this in something like 15 years so my memory could have worn out, but I'm fairly certain that's the actual canonical reason.
>>98398495It's a shame we will never reach a solid conclusion on this. Gary liked shorter elves, Ed likes tall Tolkien elves. Different editions changed the numbers. Though Bob is a bit of an authority on drow elves. Maybe he can have the final say.
>>98397285>ElminsterElminster was based on all of the fantasy writings he read as a kid, he thought Mirt the Moneylender was a far cooler character of his own writing, but his actual self-insert is himself, as he appears as himself in a few magazine articles he wrote where he interviews FR characters.
>>98398495>>98398518Bob seemed to prefer short elves based on his writings.Though in terms of editions it's currently tiedTall FR Elves: 2e, 3e, 4eShort FR Elves: 3.5e, 5e, 5.5e
>>98398589>as he appears as himself in a few magazine articlesCanonically Elminster and Ed are friends and occasionally visit each other using planar portals. Considering Ed looks like an actual fucking wizard, I wouldn't be surprised if he has a portal to the Forgotten Realms in his basement.
>>98392507matriarchy that actually treats their men well despite being disposable, and also forces its elder women into fighting roles since they're past breeding age and are also disposableit's basically a society where grandmas play housemaker with their daughters in a sort of sims dollhouse society
>>98392507nta, but i wouldn't give them a predefined culture, they'd just be a palette swap for elves who happen to be underground
>>98384968Because it makes it better when the evil Drow Matriarchs try to whip and torture the party, only for the 5'0 slender women, used to whipping 4'10 males, having to try and meaningfully hurt the party of 6ft+ adventurers who frequently fight and get near-mortally wounded in the process.Just pretend to be in pain, it stops their feelings from being hurt.>>98385157Fun fact, that's actually surprisingly common irl.Particularly in sharks.>>98396386Yeah when you do the math on how many babies they need to have to get round their mortality rates, Drow definitely get into fetish tier.
>>98398816That's a non-answer because all the official DnD settings also have predefined elf cultures. There's nothing stopping you from NOT running Drow as anything but matriarchal BDSM spiderbaddie elves, but most everyone ports matriarchal BDSM spiderbaddie elves into their own setting because they WANT matriarchal BDSM spiderbaddie elves, not because DnD forces them to.
>>98398822yeah drow are iconic and cool and evil really all I'd do with them is adapt the society under the rule of verisimilitude and make it make a little more sense while still being exactly what they are
>>98398825Even their original take wasn't supposed to be the end-all be-all of Drow. Menzoberran was supposed to just be one among many societies of Drow, one that persisted largely through direct intervention of its bitchcunt goddess (this is a good thing, this is a fun thing, gods should be more directly invested with the societies they foster) but the implication was other drow societies existed out there. They just got flanderized into being the "Menzoberran race" because the drizzt books were so popular.
>>98398822eh, there's a bit more to it than that, the underground lifestyle does mean they need to be smaller and presumably live with fewer resources>because they WANT matriarchal BDSM spiderbaddie elvesi don't think so, i think they're just used to the trope
>>98392507>They're tall again. Male Drow are anywhere between 5'10 and 6'6, while females are anywhere between 6'4 and 7'2.>Polite, chivalric culture, but incredibly brutal and incredibly racist and sexist. Only 1 in 5 girls make it to adulthood past the various trials and initiations, and fewer still become legends. Males have no rights, and are talking property. But they're decent and 'english' about it all.>Their chivalric, hunter culture is a consequence of the constant demand their home hazards put on them. Living in the Underdark, you've got to learn to be more violent than horrible cave monsters, but also not to piss people off if you can avoid it.>While some houses are more liberal, most view other races as inherently lesser, physically and culturally, and consider them livestock. If one is lucky, this just makes you a pet. If you're unlucky, dinner. Occasionally served still alive.>Typically organized into 'houses', which are fortresses inhabiting certain areas, each with their own culture, identity, martial traditions and deep set pride.>Cities are rare, but what ones do exist are technologically incredible, as making an urban hub is difficult so if they exist, they're big. And because the pressures of their life demand innovation, so their sciences, magic, and technologies are unique and advanced.>Any Drow is dangerous. Even a male, who just learns how to defend himself, from his fellows, and never got to properly train, can make a cunning, brutal, and capable bandit on the surface. An actual, 7'2 Drow Knight, in their spell-worked armour and wielding their glittering silver greatsword, custom-made to their style, is a scary scary prospect.
>>98398847>the underground lifestyle does mean they need to be smaller and presumably live with fewer resourceNone of that had anything to do with what I said but okay champ.>i think they're just used to the tropeThere's plenty of other examples of dark elves in popular fiction (dunmer, druchii, drukhari, night elves), but people come back to the Drow for a reason. You're also STILL giving a non-answer because you can't explain what your ideal take on drow would be. Have some fucking gumption and put your own opinions out there instead of whining that people don't cater to your vague, unstated complaints like a woman.
>>98398847Realistically speaking drow would probably have weapons and armor adapted from climbing tools and equipment; tight fitting, useful for climbing, also useful for killing.and they would have something that lets them breathe in compromised spaces which is common underground, probably some kind of rebreather mechanism and also everything is waterproof
>>98398875It's not drow, but I was workshopping an idea for an underground race for a while and the "iconic weapon" I'd come up with was essentially a climbing pickaxe mixed with a machete. Able to stab into walls and ceilings of the caves, but with a heavy hacking blade to chop away at various flora and fauna found in the underdark. In effect it'd probably look very similar to the uruk-hai swords in the LotR films, just with a little more texture on the blade heads
>>98398838>flanderized into being the "Menzoberran race"I think this just could be the result of them being in the Forgotten Realms. Faerun is vast and there is a lot there, but it doesn't really matter because we will only be exploring the same five locations.

I like Erelhei-Cinlu, but that's almost in more of a short story tradition in terms of how it plays, but Salvatore's stuff supports a more intricate plot focused campaign around Drow society. The infamous Dragon article I believe is actually about Erelhei-Cinlu, in part because Greyhawk was technically the 3e setting.

>>98398495>Drizzt and one of his sisters are supposed to be unusually tall for drow since their father was the drow equivalent of a gigachad. You are misremembering. Drizzt's tall sister is not the one that shares his father.>>98398518>Ed likes tall Tolkien elves.Tolkien elves are the same height as men. In fact, they're biologically identical. The difference between them is metaphysical. Even the pointed ears don't appear in the books (though it's possible they're mentioned in a letter; I can't guarantee otherwise).
>>98399348I like to think so. And humans can't see in the dark, so they need a girlfailure drowess to guide them.
>>98399357In the Hobbit he describes Bilbo Baggins ears as "only slightly pointed and elvish". And yeah there were some letters too mentioning it directly.
>>98384968Why dorfs aren't sturdy on that pic?
>>98398838>>98399098It honestly threw me off the first time I was reading old FR lore, and it mentioned how the Lolthite cities (the ones that see Lolth as the one true god and all other gods are more like minor saints/powers compared to her) are considered heretical, but due to Lolth's direct divine intervention in those cities they thrive enough for the ideology to spread, but even than it was only like 30% of Drow cities are ones part of the Lolthite cult.
>>98398847>eh, there's a bit more to it than that, the underground lifestyle does mean they need to be smaller and presumably live with fewer resourcesDoesn't that ignore the fact that Drow don't live strictly "underground"?Most charts showing how the world/subterranean areas work show >Surface>Normal cave tunnels>Impossibly vast underdark caverns and tunnels, big enough for dragons to move throughHell most books that go into Drow resources talk about vast farms and livestock they maintain down there using radioactive materials to simulate sunlight.
>>98399362This conversation is mostly a joke, I think, but it's actually reframing my idea of the whole male Human Paladin female Drow romance thing.I always kind of thought it was stupid, but this makes a startling amount of sense now.
>>98399813What do you mean? He's built like a mini-fridge.
>>98400637And I think it works better if we play with the whole inverted values thing, where it's not about getting purified by Lawful Hot dickings, but it's about the Drow girlfailure getting the paladin to put on the leather pants and spiky black armor.
>>98400713I'm picturing a romcom with a calculating drow girl and a simple paladin, with the paladin trying to convert her to good, but worried that she's just playing him for her own nefarious purposes, and she is, but her "nefarious purposes" are just trying to bag herself a hot "tomgirl" bf and to piss off her overbearing mother. And he simply cannot catch a hint and is overly worried about some kind of terrible plot.I don't know I'd write something myself, but I'm lazy and not confident I could do it justice.
>>98400750I think around the time he's dressed up like a goth twink he might start realizing something is off.Possibly before that.
>>98400713>whole inverted values thing>it's not about getting purified by Lawful Hot dickings, but it's about the Drow girlfailure getting the paladin to put on the leather pants and spiky black armor. You really don't know enough about how women think, do you? The whole killer rapist CEO of Business stays an evil, broody killer rapist, EXCEPT for when he's with her. He doesn't change wholesale, only changes when it involves HER.So the Drow equivalent would be a lawful good paladin whose still lawful good and will wrap his hands around her throat and whisper a threat to Smite her in her ear if she steps out of line, but will still go torture and enslave her enemies with her.
>>98401324Except the whole premise is that because she's from a matriarchal society she thinks like a man, rather than a woman.A drow girlfailure is more akin to a shut-in loser dude rather than what we consider a girlfailure.Which I guess begs the question: is our alleged girlfailure pivoting hard away from the drow culture of matriarchal femdom and wants to be dominated, or is she more chud-coded and just wants some perfect husbando to come along that shares all her hobbies and interests and gives her whatever kind of sex she desires when she desires it.I think either answer is acceptable, but it's worth asking.
>>98401411>Except the whole premise is that because she's from a matriarchal society she thinks like a man, rather than a woman.True, I fucked up that part.>A drow girlfailure is more akin to a shut-in loser dude rather than what we consider a girlfailure. In that case the Paladin would stil be closer to a manic pixie dream girl who betters the loser man rather than is changed by him.>but it's worth asking. As you said, there's multiple ways to go about it>"daddy dommy" bf who takes care of her so she can continue being a girlfailure but is validated/pampered for it>manic pixie surfacer bf who forces her to better herself, usually as some sort of synthesis of traditional values and his weird whimsical surfacer values>tradchad surfacer who is the ideal drow bf but for some reason falls in love with herI guess you could also do a variation on the third and do the whole "never ask a drow supremacist the race of her bf" meme and have the surfacer be a drowaboo that is once again unreasonably obsessed with the drowfailure chuddess for no determinable reason. Kind of a reverse Facetta Nera situation.
>>98399357>Tolkien elves are the same height as men.Only in a rough sense. The average elf was taller than the average man, other than men who had elven or Numenorean lineage. Though elves tended to be more slight of build than men. But not effeminate, Tolkien loathed effeminate depictions of his elves.Elrond is mentioned as a head taller than Gandalf, but Gandalf had broader shoulders. Tolkien mentions the same sort of distinction between Aragorn and Boromir.
>>98401482The typology of drow girlfailures and their boyfriends for your consideration. The blackpilled submissive: Has mostly given up on Drow society and matriarchy. Just wants a man to take care of her and sexually dominate her to make her feel desirable. The stereotypical loser: No good at priestly magic or subterfuge, still wants to try. Wants a trad, for a drow, bf that will help her get her life straight. So basically a house husband slave extraordinaire. The Radicalist: A radical liberal drow, alleging to fight against matriarchy, which in this case means she wants a loving and equal relationship with vanilla sex, may or may not be true. Dates a surface worlder to piss off her parents, may or may not be exceptionally into it.The Drow Supremacist: Extreme even for a drow, despite her own lack of achievement in life. Her views are mostly a smokescreen to cover up her inadequacy. Her boyfriend is of course a surface elf, probably moon or sun not even something spicy like wood or wild. That's my ideas so far.
>>98401747>Her boyfriend is of course a surface elf, probably moon or sun not even something spicy like wood or wild."LOLTH, FORGIVE ME. MOMMY NEEDY SUNNY"
>>98392507Very similar to the Draka from S.M. Stirling's novels, along with the Melniboneans from Elric and the Tuatha de Danaan from Irish myth. Plus some similarities to the Byzantine, Ottoman, Mughal, and Russian empires.>>98398848This is really cool too and is very similar to how I handle them, especially with how dangerous they are and how they treat non-drow. Drow see themselves as members of a mistress race who are divinely ordained to conquer all - other beings are livestock/slaves or vermin to them.>>98396740To be fair elves were tall in the original Celtic myths as well.>>98398254I think it's a lot deeper than that. Drow are magic immortal Nietschean uebermenschen that most people deep down see as sort of aspirational even though Christian/post-Christian societies tell us to be more moral people. Lolthite drow society is one where violence, frank imperialism, and slavery are the norm, pity is for the weak, and the strong rule through force of arms. A drow is expected to lie cleverly, steal handsomely and kill without compunction for their personal honor and that of their clan.>>98401837One thing I want to touch on is that anti-drow humans would have an absurd amount of sexual anxiety regarding drow - straight men aren't used to being sexually attracted to entities that can easily kill them, bisexual/lesbian women would also be attracted to the fact that drow females prefer the unnatural caresses of other females, and so on. There'd be simultaneous fear, hatred, and thirst for drow.
>>98401961>More powerful than themThat's a stretch.Drow mostly attack villages and isolated travellers on slave raids. That's not really a power-move.It's a bitch move.If they were powerful enough collectively to wage open war on the surface kingdoms, they would. The idea that Drow are "Powerful" stems from the fact that their surface raids are carried out largely against defenseless targets, by experienced military personnel. To be perfectly honest, Drow seem like they would be a prime target for rape, torture, and being stuck on a pike with their tits cut off.Hatred Mixed with lust =/= fear.
>>98384968>the average human is 5'7''It's a world of manlets
Should a space opera have Drow?
>>98401747I see a female Vhaeraun drow in many of your examples. They reject Lolth's status quo. Female members would be a small minority of his followers. They would get lots of male attention being the only grill in the group. Though a human male wouldn't really stand a chance because Vhaeraunites are elven supremacists. In the lore they are said to deliberately seduce elves since drow blood dominanates and most of the time these couples produce more surface drows for the cause.
>>98402309That's true in real life, broski. You shouldn't listen to swindlers so much.
>>98401961>anti-drow humans would have an absurd amount of sexual anxiety regarding drow>There'd be simultaneous fear, hatred, and thirst for drow. You already see it in this thread even though drow aren't even real. It's where all the insecure-sounding fantasies about killing and torturing and raping drow is coming from.
>>98402300>To be perfectly honest, Drow seem like they would be a prime target for rape, torture, and being stuck on a pike with their tits cut off. This is the kind of language that I feel like is missing from the lore. And it's obvious why, but it's a no-brainer, the elephant in the room. 99% of half-drows in the underdark are born to drow men raping human slave women. A high ranking noble male would be easily able to do it in his quarters to a domestic servant. Sometimes they might even do it with the drow females' approval to create "surface weapons" who don't suffer from daylight problems. Humans would know drows are slavers and rapists, with cruel female leaders, therefore whenever a drow raid fails spectacularly and the lone priestess in the back barking comands who was protected by humanoid grunts and drow warriors doesn't manage to escape... well, she probably gets passed around a bit before they end her. This is typical 'escalation' during war time. Brutality breeds more brutality.
>>98402310yes.
>>98396740>Drizzt is considered an uber chad at 5 foot 4.A real short king. But then again I think women are into elf men as much as men are into elf women.Drow included.I don't blame them.
>>98402673We don't talk about male drow.
>>98402310Mine kind of does, they originate from a Alien Emperor type figure stealing some Humans periodically in our past and experimenting with them, one of his sisters created the elves, they split into two cultures and the drow types are Corsairs and raiders who are then destined to be united by a prophesized Malac, the uniter king. Though their human origin is long forgotten, but similarities has always been noticed, for example cross cultural exchanges. One of which is among drow females there is a sub-culture of obsession with barbaric human men amongst a certain anomalous space in the 'Wheel of Fire' they enjoy certain 'specimens' from the Savage Outworlds that populate the Wheel.
>>98403364Just being realistic. A drow noble woman getting pregnant to a rivvil is the biggest scandal in town. She signs her own death warrant by acting so reckless. The human needs some special bloodline for them to ever consider deliberately getting pregnant by him, and this child will be used as a tool.Elves in general are fetishized as women who fall for human men, but in reality most elven blood would mix with humans paternally in most cases. They outlive human males and remember everything perfectly in the reverie, so losing a shorter-lived partner is a heartbreak for them that lasts for centuries. Not to mention her family members--they just wouldn't accept it if it's an elf community. Getting a sun elf woman from Evereska or Evermeet would be impossible since the Nazi elves looked down on even Elminster in the novels. An elf male on the other hand has the 'wanderlust' period in his life before he hits 110 years of age. That's when you would get characters like Coran from Baldur's Gate 1. They leave behind half-elves for the human women to raise. Drow are similarly impenetrable. Yes, sometimes some odd handful of human male house slaves might get used by them, but they still avoid pregnancy. Human men would have to rape them after a battle, or somehow get involved with an Eilistraeean enclave where the tables turn pretty fast.
>>98402300Drow don't go on extended military campaigns on the surface for at least two reasons:-sunlight is toxic for drow-drow are few in number and surrounded by enemies at homeAs they don't react well to sunlight, they generally use proxies and stealth to destabilize hostiles on the surface until they can leverage actual force against them. Drow live for a very long time and think strategically over the long term. The usual drow MO is to get into the most advantageous position over a foe before striking as to minimize drow casualties. Most drow raids are actually done by young drow seeking to acquire prestige and get their first kills on surface dwellers. Recall that dark elves are based on the northern European sleep paralysis monster trope. As a result they would be poorly understood and feared, as you'd expect from nocturnal uncanny valley monsters with occult powers and more advanced weaponry who hunt humanity.>>98402610My Eilistraee worshipping drow character would be aware of this and its a bit of a plot point in her doubts about rejecting Lolth and used against her by her Lolth worshipping sister.>>98402673>>98403439I don't want to go into depth about the sexual exploitation of human slave girls in the drow empire, by both male and female drow, but it exists at large scale and is culturally acceptable among them for the same reasons it was in the classical Mediterranean and medieval Islamic world.
>>98403498I think one of my favorite lore bits was about how the Drow under Calimport spent years destabilizing the city, then in one night while the navy was away dealing with other issues, they sacked the city and took like 30% of the population into the underdark before anyone outside of the city even knew an attack occurred. They rarely pull off these huge operations, with Dambrath being the very big exception admittedly, but when they do it's clear why people panic at seeing drow. Just imagine the rumors/stories that come from shit like that.
>>98403439>even ElminsterBecause he was a mid-20s guy who looked twice his age and didn't have 99% of his accomplishments. They were right to reject him as human trash.

>>98398848>Only 1 in 5 girls make it to adulthood past the various trials and initiationsThat is probably too extreme as that would require surviving female Drow to have a birth rate of 10 to maintain a stable population. A 1:5 chance of reaching adulthood works for males but a 1:2 chance is what the female chance of reaching adulthood should be at a minimum.
>>98410230>Abs on womenJust come out of the closet already you homosexual
>>98411545People did at some point calculate the birthrate driw would need to have to actually match the numbers in that infamous Dragon article (the one Chad-Zak is from), where only something like 25 % of all drow make it past their equivalent of kindergarten. The result was something along the lines of every female drow who survived to adulthood would have a produce several hundred babies just to keep the population stable. Most sources don't make drow society nearly as hyper-lethat, though. Drizzt only had one fight to death before going to the fighter academy, and even then he was actually fighting a goblin slave who had been polymorphed into a drow. And while you would assume the academy would be a meatgrinder where most students die and only the strongest graduate, out of Drizzt's class of 20 only 4 die over the course of multiple years of training (one gets assassinated by another student, one tries to assassinate another student, fails, and gets executed, one gets killed by monsters while on patrol duty, and one dies in a training "accident").
>>98411609she needs to be fit to birth the 25-40 half-drow babies she owes
>>98411907>hyper-lethalI felt that was one of the biggest weaknesses of 3e.>2e Drow of the Underdark opens with showing an evil drow matron being civil and sharing wine and conversation with a couple of surfacers, as long as they make sure to show the proper respect and etiquette at all times, and it's clear she's a bit fucking disgusted with one of the humans just for existing>3e Drow of the Underdark opens with a drow being absolutely paranoid about every aspect of everything she does in her life, because she's convinced literally everyone is trying to kill her, until she gets poisoned to death by her maid for no explicable reason
>>98410230Wow
How does Ed Greenwood get away with being able to write his fetishes and make a setting out of it and even praised for it? What's the secret so I can get away with it?What other examples are of this? >>98410230I like this kind of drow woman physique.
>>98416537Because he wrote one of the earliest DnD settings that got widespread popularity due to multiple successful videogames and novels using it. He also keeps his fetish stuff mostly in the background. The average player isn't going to think too much about the in-universe travel guide making mention of the brothels, sorry, festhalls in each city it covers, and are likely to assume that the implication that some guests at said festhall wanting to fuck a giant spider is meant to be a cheeky joke. They don't know about all the deep lore about the flavor of each elf subrace's breastmilk and stuff (for the record, wood elf breastmilk has a minty taste, while drow is more mushroomy) because to find out that stuff you have to go digging deeper than what you get from videogames or splatbooks.
>>98416537>What other examples are of this?Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth series doubles as his manifesto of objectivist libertarianism and as his femdom kink smut.
>>98416650Minor correction: His setting got popular because as much people loved the Dragonlance novels it was hard to use it as a setting without retreading the same ground over and over again. As a result this guy who kept doing little articles and tales about his personal setting where it seems like 5000000 things are all happening at the same time, yet all of them on a scale that adventurers could just hop into, really caught on.That's why FR started with the premise of no world ending plots, just localized events so there can be 1,001 adventures for 1,001 groups. And also why I think a real sequel to BG2 would humorously be more about the economic issues caused by the Iron Throne, since the Bhaalspawn event would have been a thing that if you're not in the immediate area you probably thought it was just some mercenary armies clashing and people exaggerating about shit.
>>98416650>for the record, wood elf breastmilk has a minty taste, while drow is more mushroomyso their milk just matches the taste of what they usually eat?
>>98417043Much like real life.
