Durpleton wasn't gay, that's Zulius you're thinking of. Durpleton did treat a lizardman as his child though. It was a way of showing maturity by taking care of someone else. It all had to do with his parents in the end.

I like centauroids with paws. Wolves, foxes, cats, ferrets, bunnies, etc., in my personal opinion, feel like they'd function better than the standard horse based centaur. Horses are God's Greatest Mistake and don't have the same fluid range of motions that other animals have. Hell, deer & goats probably work great too due to them not having Horse Limits.

Only the horse part makes sense, since otherwise the baby would have pass through the entire horse torso to even reach the birth canal, and since a baby centaur would presumably be about the size of a baby horse it wouldn't fit inside a human uterus anyway (and even if centaur uterus, while in the same place as a human one, is bigger, aside from the already mentioned distance the baby would have to pass through to be born, I'd imagine having a horse-sized belly sticking out of the human half would seriously affect their balance).
Most artists just don't know what a pregnant horse looks like, or think the audience wouldn't recognize the centaur being pregnant, so they just draw a regular human pregnancy belly on the human half.

I would put a heavy cultural aspect on archery and astronomy. The greek centaur myths had them as philosophers and astrologers, but also as savage and dangerous beasts. Sagittarius is an archer and scholar in equal measure. Chiron would be a wise sage who taught Hercules, Nessus is a cunning savage who steals his wife.
