Have them kill something with a lair out of town, make the loot difficult to carry, and then have other creatures and humanoids hear that the beast is dead and its treasure is now basically up for grabs.If you have a party that likes to think and plan (rare, I know), you can have a lot of fun with just making them work out the logistics of guarding this treasure while they plan runs into town with what they can carry, or pay people who will come take it away for them but for a hefty fee since anyone can see that they can afford it. Throw in some theft, some goblin attacks while they're transporting shit, maybe a local aristocrat figures that since the treasure was on his land it should belong to him- hell maybe it was even his family that got raided for a lot of what went to the hoard. They'll have a great time
