Avenger costs the same as metamagic and has more restrictions.Narrative rules imply restrictions means greater raw power.So the best possible metamagic build loses to a basic bitch avenger build when that avenger is inspired.Metamagic is a support skill for backline buffers.

But you can still do the coming of age thing if you want to do that with your character.
