>Most DnD Groups
Uh you can't play an elf sir you gotta be a human and preferrably not a spellcaster because that's not very realistic and is soi and cringe. Human male fighters for life!
>The DnD groups that I play with
Wanna play an Ogre Fire breathing monk with teleportation abilities? Kind of withstranded but okay Everyone else is like an ego weapon, a ghost or some other abstract concept.

I always get the impression that most online groups are pretty restrictive with what character archetypes are available at the table but regardless of whether or not it's IRL or with some group of randoms online or even with longstanding internet dorks that I know, they tend to be much less restrictive. Everyone is talking about what is the most fighter approved weapon and Dex vs Str faggotry while my groups tend to be more loose and would certainly be quantified as being heavily freakshitty.

The real question here is how does your tabletop group

I ban Thieflings and force every 5e player to play 3.5e
>>

Everyone in my group gravitates toward humans, except one player who likes to play elves almost exclusively. Though, he is playing dwarf this campaign, which is the first time in many years that he hasn't played elf. There is no purity test among my players though. I had one player four years ago who wanted to play half orc. He played with us for two years before he moved and no one complained about it. I have not asked them why they prefer humans. They just do.

Always remember that the people shitposting on 4chan about how much they hate "freakshit" are a tiny minority compared to the greater DnD community, which are mostly exactly like your group.
>>
>>98410551
I don't know why human fighter videos are so prevalent youtube then. I might just be out of touch
>>
>>98410583
Human Fighter has always been a popular class combination due to its relative simplicity in play as well as its broad appeal thanks to encompassing a broad swathe of actual fantasy archetypes.

It really is a shame a rather annoying shitpost has given it such a bad reputation simply because the worst kinds of people can't shut up about it.
>>
>>98410160
I am, singlehandedly, the most niche outlier; I make my own games and run them solo and don't ever fudge outcomes/rules.
>>
>>98410551
People wouldn't talk about how much they hate freakshit if it wasn't commonly encountered.

Freakshit is heavily associated with "nu" players who carry with them many other annoying habits. I encounter it whenever I leave my little DCC friend bubble and play at a con where people bring their own characters. And its immediately grating, because they're always le reddit theater kids who are not nearly as funny as they think they are, and seem to be constantly performing, not for the benefit of the other people at their table, but for an imaginary podcast audience.

>wtf how could this be happening??!?!?

Most people in my group have started hating DnD so I have already escaped the trap

I widh I played in a full human fighter group. It would be more interesting than several special snowflakes each playing their own game.

They're playing D&D and retarded by default.

I think that in 5e and pathfinder the battlemaster and well pathfinder 2e does have like actual options.

>play who do you want, just don't be an annnoying cunt
>>
>>98410160
None of my groups are like what you described.
>>
>>98410389
You do neither of those things, but you do like to imagine what it would be like if you did.

>>98412581
This is the most common dynamic by far and it's not even close.
>>
>>98412572
I'd argue it's kind of a bell curve situation.
People starting out will gravitate towards human fighter/barbarian/rogue for simplicity and ease of learning.

People confident in basic mechanics and rules will branch out to more complicated classes to explore what the system has to offer.

People confident in the system who have explored most of the options will carve out a preferred playstyle or roleplaying archetype, or will use character first design rather than mechanics first. Some will prefer fighter-types others will still enjoy the complexity offered by other classes.

That tends to be what I've seen and heard.

>>98410583
Most human fighter players irl don't have a fit when people play non human characters nor do it for being le based
>>
>>98410443
Do these people roleplay or do they just make their characters an idealised version of themselves.
Because those are the two kinds of always human players, the formering being fine and the latter being gay.
>>
>>98410160
>Uh you can't play an elf or a spellcaster
No one, literally NO ONE ever said this in the myriad online games I played. Work on your bait.
>>
>>98410583
Because people like to play them, it doesn't mean freakshit is forbidden, retard.
>>
>>98410583
Because they are out of topics, anon. Everything they say is basically either supplement summaries or the same dusty skub that's been circulating for decades.
If you want to call yourself out of touch, then that's only because you haven't caught on just how uncreative those "creatives" are.
>>
>>98410160
Never played with randos via internet. At conventions I don't remember a single game where no one played something slightly exotic. At our home table we did have campaign groups (e.g. young recruits in the military of Cormyr) which were all human, but those were rare and few. Most of the times at least two of our players decide to go for something exotic they haven't played before, so more often than not the group is some sort of freak show nowadays.
