>He's still using a magic staffFact: wands are superior. Besides their ease of concealment and carry, the mana channeling difference you get for staves is logarithmic, not exponential, so the difference between a 6 foot staff and a 14-inch wand of the same material is approximately 35%. It's just not worth it, not even for barrier-busting. And then on top of that, wands have much more precision thanks to their smaller size, so you're going to be more accurate anyway.
>>98416064>He fell for the logarithm meme. Anon, your profound retardation is showing. No one in their right mind is relying on naked physical properties for mana channeling capabilities anymore. Nowadays it's all about the micro-runes, and in case you haven't noticed, one of these has way more surface area than the other. Enjoy your wand by all means, I'll stick with my multi-stage, full-duplex mana amplifying stick with a knob on the end. This thing will amplify spells up a full stage, two if you know what you're doing, and can take up to a 6th lvl spell to store or lower level spells added together up to that. That poor excuse for a divining rod would be lucky to hold onto a 3rd level spell, max, or channel enough extraneous mana to upcast a meta-magically enhanced spell without either extra material component or physical drain of the caster. I'll concede on one point though. If you just really needed to tap into some in a jiff, your wand would be much easier to sunder. Far more appropriate toward the ends of kindling.
Actually, you lose precision with a wand. A spell cast from a wand has what, maybe a single foot beyond the length of your arm before it travels through the air? Whilst a staff gets your spell casting point a full meter towards the enemy. This is best represented in GURPS, where staves help extend range very slightly more.

>>98416064>casting your own spellsI have a magical domain like an actual sorcerer. Keep squabbling about the best way to sling elements like a sellsword with a crossbow, while we real mages command minions and loci.Let me guess, you're a "wandering wizard" (i.e. towerless)

Invest in a staff and get used to using it now, your future self will thank you (possibly via magic mirror).

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Chopstick" bullshit that's going on in the tribunal right now. Wands deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that. I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine wand from a verditius mage for six pawns of vis (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost three seasons now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my wand. Enchanters spend years working on a sngle wand and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest channeling implement known to mankind. Wands are thrice as potent as non-hermetic implements and thrice as aesthetic for that matter too. Anything a perdo spell can cut through, a wand can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a wand could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple swish and flick. Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering the Order of Hermes? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined magi and their wands of destruction. Even in the war against Davan Alladh, ex miscellania soldiers targeted the men with the wands first because their killing power was feared and respected. So what am I saying? Wands are simply the best conduit for medical power that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats. Here is the stat block I propose for Wands: (One-Handed Exotic Weapon) 1d12 Damage 19-20 x4 Crit +2 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork (Two-Handed Exotic Weapon) 2d10 Damage 17-20 x4 Crit +5 to hit and damage Counts as Masterwork Now that seems a lot more representative of the power of wands in real life, don't you think? tl;dr = wands need to do more damage, see my new stat block.
